DYK for 2012 English Channel scallop fishing dispute
On 27 October 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article 2012 English Channel scallop fishing dispute, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that French fishermen threw rocks and nets at British fishing boats during a dispute about scallop fishing with British fishermen in the English Channel? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/2012 English Channel scallop fishing dispute. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

They Bleed Pixels "No demonstration of notability"
I have went in and added references and applied a template to the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/They_Bleed_Pixels to bring it in line with the notability guidelines and to help flush out the article. I will be trying to add more to the article as time goes by. I put what is there now together to try to avoid the article being deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Switchblade.kult (talk • contribs) 04:41, 30 October 2012 (UTC+11)

Just by way of explaination after a few emails with DeltaQuad we agreed to create the user's account (following a request at WP:ACC), however more information became available to DeltaQuad so he blocked the account. Semi-protection
It's been a long time since I've had to request semi-protection, and I can't remember how I did it the first time. I thought that I just had to post the semi-protection template to request it, but this must be wrong, and the process seems mezzanine. Can you link me to a page where I can request semi-protection?Ferox Seneca (talk) 09:45, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
- The template is to show that a page has been protected. Requests for page protection can be made at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. Regards, Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 09:47, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
This is not a newsletter
Anyway. You're getting this note because you've participated in discussion and/or asked for updates to either the Article Feedback Tool or Page Curation. This isn't about either of those things, I'm afraid ;p. We've recently started working on yet another project: Echo, a notifications system to augment the watchlist. There's not much information at the moment, because we're still working out the scope and the concepts, but if you're interested in further updates you can sign up here.
In addition, we'll be holding an office hours session at 21:00 UTC on Wednesday, 14 November in #wikimedia-office - hope to see you all there :). I appreciate it's an annoying time for non-Europeans: if you're interested in chatting about the project but can't make it, give me a shout and I can set up another session if there's enough interest in one particular timezone or a skype call if there isn't. Thank you very much for taking the time to read, research, handle and reply to my Help-Me request! It was a little thing, in the grand scheme, but your willingness to treat it as important and work the issue promptly is much appreciated, and is what makes this encyclopedia great! besiegedtalk 18:28, 10 November 2012 (UTC) |

- Thank you for the barnstar! And for recognising that you may not have been neutral.
- You can if you want, it would probably be the more "politically correct" thing to do, especially since I didn't do anything an admin should normally do. But I don't mind either way. Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 22:34, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
Isn't this a fork? I'm not sure what the bit about authenticity means either. Thanks, Dougweller (talk) 09:14, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
- It looks like it might be a fork, and I think it'd be better included within the Mary Magdalene article. I assume authenticity means that the Golden Legend is the only proof of this legend. I'm not sure why you asked me, but if you're after a third opinion that's it. Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 10:29, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

Hey all :). A couple of quick updates (one small, one large)
First, we're continuing to work on some ways to increase the quality of feedback and make it easier to eliminate and deal with non-useful feedback: hopefully I'll have more news for you on this soon :).
Second, we're looking at ways to increase the actual number of users patrolling and take off some of the workload from you lot. Part of this is increasing the prominence of the feedback page, which we're going to try to do with a link at the top of each article to the relevant page. This should be deployed on Tuesday (touch wood!) and we'll be closely monitoring what happens. Let me know if you have any questions or issues :). Formal mediation has been requested
The Mediation Committee has received a request for formal mediation of the dispute relating to "Lie To Me (Jonny Lang)". As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. Mediation is a voluntary process which resolves a dispute over article content by facilitation, consensus-building, and compromise among the involved editors. After reviewing the request page, the formal mediation policy, and the guide to formal mediation, please indicate in the "party agreement" section whether you agree to participate. Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 3 December 2012.
Discussion relating to the mediation request is welcome at the case talk page. Thank you.

Callanecc,You are a real piece of work, who are you to tell me I have a conflict of interest in this matter, as you had been told by me that I can provide documention proving what I edited on that page????You should not involve yourself with things that you have no knowledge of and allow people to contribute TRUE FACTS to pages that they do have TRUE KNOWEDGE OF. If you work for Wikipedia, I offered to provide you with documentation to prove my edit's and why you chose to make this in to a huge problem and aggravate me to the extent of posting what I did last night, I will never know, insecurity on your part I guess???mdp0007Mdp0007 (talk) 22:49, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
- Once again the incivility and personal attacks aren't going to get you anywhere on Wikipedia. Wikipedia is collaborative and all article content has to be verifiable. It isn't me you need to prove it to it's everyone who reads the article, so sending it to me isn't going to help have a look at WP:REFB. There is no excuse for the posts last night, I'm sorry but there isn't, and I didn't make this into a big thing all I did was leave a welcoming message which said that you have a conflict of interest and how you can avoid having your contributions undone. - It would be better if you could find a source online which links you to the band (such as a news article or press release which mentions you) and then reference it (WP:REFB will help you reference it in the article).
- There is no point arguing this point any further as we both believe the other is at fault, and the result won't matter very much. By the way, all you need to do to sign your posts on talk pages is to type four tildes (~~~~) after your message - that should save you a bit of time. Can I ask why you chose to redirect this to Bell character given that that suggestion was rejected in the discussion? Also, the target desired by three of the four contributors was Bell (a dab page) rather than the Bell (instrument) you placed a hatnote to? Thryduulf (talk) 09:14, 29 November 2012 (UTC)
- My interpretation of the discussion was that DGG's suggestion that it be redirected to the character article, and the only issue with that was that people may be actually after the instrument so the hatnote fixed that issue. But on rereading it I can see that redirecting to the dab page also had support and would have solved the problem as well. So I'll go and fix that now. Sorry about that, Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 11:11, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

Editing Issue
Hi! I just attempted to add an important resource to the entry on pneumoconiosis. We at CPWR are a nonprofit health and safety organization, and the site was created with NIOSH funds as a clearinghouse of information on occupational health regarding silica and silicosis - a variety of penumoconiosis. What was your reasoning in removal?

- Hi, I reverted the edit because the addition of the link seemed to be against external links to be avoided, in that it didn't add a great deal to the article and was there instead to direct people to the website. You should also have a look at external links and conflict of interest, Wikipedia's conflict of interest guideline and the plain and simple conflict of interest guide. AfD no consensus
Does no votes on an AfD mean the same thing as a no consensus? Obviously there is atleast 1 vote for delete; and a no consensus cannot be establishedf as there are no votes against. The policy says nothing that the AfD must be closed as no consensus. The article in concern is this TheOriginalSoni (talk) 14:53, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
- A consensus is an agreement between editors, so if there are no participants in a discussion (excluding the nominator) then there is no agreement between editors and the debate is either relisted to try and get more editors to contribute. In this case that had been done twice so rather than relist it again I decided to close the discussion as "no consensus with no prejudice against speedy renomination". Have a look at WP:NOQUORUM for more infortmation. Regards, Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 19:15, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
- Got it. Thanks!
- It implies that I can renominate for CSD right? Because I did, and Phil Bridger contested it, citing its notable and that I should try again for AfD in a few months.
- Also does contesting a CSD imply it shall not pass? TheOriginalSoni (talk) 15:39, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
- Not for CSD - CSD stands for criteria for speedy deletion which are a list of strict criteria under which a page may be deleetd at any time. The criteria under which you nominated it (CSD A7 requires that the subject be unremarkable, that there be no claim of importance in the article (which there is). While technically when an article for seletion discussion is closed as no consensus it may be renominated (at AFD) for deletion. However it is usually a good idea to wait at least a mont (usually more) so that notability can be established. So if, for example, Abdul Ghaffar Naqshbandi were to have coverage in independant sources over the next few weeks then he would be notable per the general notability guideline. O the other side if there is not more coverage it may be easier to show that he isn't notable and hence easier to have the article deleted. Does that make more sense? - Yep. Thanks TheOriginalSoni (talk) 14:36, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

- It's a list of mythological ghosts and ghosts for which there is a Wikipedia article. The list is just a collection of ghosts which have articles on Wikipedia, so there isn't a reason to say that they don't exist (because people can click on the links and decide for themselves). Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 11:21, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

edits to Arizona State University page
I am going add a section in the talk page of the article for the Devil Walk addition to the Band, Devil Walk, and University Songs section. There definitely needs to be inclusion of a discription for the Devil Walk. The purpose of the Youtube video was to chronicle the tradition in action. Do you think that is reasonable?--68.98.115.70 (talk) 12:55, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
- I think adding a section to the article's talk page (rather than the article) with a draft version of what you want to add is a good idea, as it will allow other to comment and help you rather than just reverting your edit. Just make sure that what you want to add is cited to reliable sources. Thank you for asking for advice. Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 12:58, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

- Whilst those sources are reliable and so prove that it happened. I'm not going to add it back myself because (at the moment) I don't see that there is a big enough reason to include that (that is I don't see that there has been a big enough reaction to it). However I would have no objections if you were to add it back yourself as long as you cite those sources (see WP:REFB for more information on how to do that). Guild of Copy Editors November 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up
Participation: Thanks to all who participated! Out of 38 people who signed up this drive, 33 copy-edited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. All the barnstars have now been distributed. Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing November and December 2011 from the backlog. For the first time since the drives began, the backlog consists only of articles tagged in the current year. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2690 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. CVU Test 01 Examiner!
Can please evaluate my student's answers? It'll take only 2-3 minutes! Question 4 was tricky, he has given correct answer (i.e. not vandalism) with a "not perfect" explanation, I have added a note there (question 04)! See the question paper here --Tito Dutta (talk) 23:00, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
- Will do thanks for asking, probably tonight or tomorrow. I assume you want me to mark it and write my comments on the question paper, rather than a different page? Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 01:11, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, evaluating those answer (marks et at upper right corner of every question)! Take your time! --Tito Dutta (talk) 01:22, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- Done, thanks for the opportunity. Let me know if I can help out in the future - I'm happy to. Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 09:47, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks, you have done everything correctly. Please a second opinion (after theory part, i.e. Test 01), in Test 02 (Practical) I have asked to include 20 reverts and comment on those (see the question here). Opinion needed on- is 20 reverts too much? Should I make it 10 reverts with 2*10=20 marks? But, I felt, 10 reverts will be insufficient specially when he knows his reverts will be monitored! Opinion? --Tito Dutta (talk) 19:37, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- I'd go 20 reverts but to get the mark he has to both revert with the correct edit summary (AGF with explaination or correct labelling of vandalism) AND has to issue the correct warning (or report to AIV at the correct time in the correct way). Platypus
http://www.beaverfansite.com/civil_war_platypus.cfm
here is a link to a fan site that talks about the Platypus as being part of the Oregon culture with our state colleges. There is also a Platypus trophy page on Wikipedia. 68.70.227.108 (talk) 04:16, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- I don't think that this particular use of platypus in popular culture should be included in the Platypus article. I think it'd be better to leave it where it is in the universities' articles and the Platypus Trophy. However please feel free to suggest it's inclusion in the article, on Talk:Platypus, if you'd like to be included. Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 09:07, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

Hand-coding
Hey all :).
I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).
You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyeswikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).
If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 22:54, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Festivus for the rest of us! | ||
Frank Costanza: "Many Christmases ago, I went to buy a doll for my son. I reached for the last one they had, but so did another man. As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way." Cosmo Kramer: "What happened to the doll?" Frank Costanza: "It was destroyed. But out of that a new holiday was born: a Festivus for the rest of us!" Kramer: "That must have been some kind of doll." Frank Costanza: "She was." Substing User Talk Templates
Hi there! When using certain templates on talk pages, such as welcome templates and user warnings, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:welcome}} instead of {{welcome}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. If you need any further help on the matter just ask me on my talk page. Cheers. ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 17:57, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

You accepted a reversion of version 530880284 which was made by Canoe1967 without any explanation, let alone a valid one. Could you examine the article?165.121.80.142 (talk) 07:46, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- I was actually accepting the revisions made by you (it just appears it was Canoe's I was accepting), as there was no reason according WP:RVW not to accepting them. Have at look through Wikipedia:Dispute resolution for what to do now, however the bext process I suggest you follow at this stage is WP:BRD. Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 08:25, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for your kind explanation; that particular edit was accepted without an issue. But I was wondering if you have experience with ClueBot? User_talk:ClueBot_Commons#Captcha_code_broken.3F discusses a case where a ClueBot NG report could not be made. No one ever commented on that, but when it was redone (per ClueBot instructions) Cluebot again tagged it: 22:21, 4 January 2013 ClueBot NG (talk | contribs) m . . (62,721 bytes) (-34) . . (Reverting possible vandalism by 165.121.80.217 to version by Another Believer. False positive? Report it. Thanks, ClueBot NG. (1426780) (Bot)) Since ClueBot, at least, does not like comments like [citation needed] in a citation, what is the proper way to point out to someone reading the article that another source is needed?165.121.80.217 (talk) 22:43, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
- If you have a look at Template:Citation needed/doc#Inline templates there is a long list and summary of all of these sorts of inline templates. There is an issue all over Wikipedia with CAPTCHAs at the moment so that isn't isolated.
- Also, have you thought about creating an account? There are a number benefits, most of which are mentioned here, including that after 10 edits and 4 days you don't need to worry about doing CAPTCHAs on Wikipedia or waiting for your edits to be reviewed. Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 00:47, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, I did try to find an appropriate template without success. {Better source} sounds like I am complaining about the politics of the TV station, not that it is video. What is your personal opinion of the text, was ClueBot correct?165.121.80.151 (talk) 10:35, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- I think it was a false positive from ClueBot, your edits certainly weren't vandalism. Have you thought about creating an account? Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 01:33, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
- Even I can agree that most parenthetical additions to reference citations are probably harmful, and perhaps I should have found a better way for that comment, but how? Problem with another account name etc is that I have too many things to remember already.165.121.80.114 (talk) 02:01, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
- Well technically there is no need to provide a transcript as readers are free to watch the video and listen to it. If you don't think (or are unsure) the source didn't seem to support what is being used to cite you could use {{Verify source}} to ask someone to check the source or, {{Failed verification}} (or {{Request quotation}} as a less severe option) if you checked yourself. I think the best course of action would have been to leave a message on the page's talk page and see if anyone can find a transcript or text source, especially since it's quite a high profile page (so the talk page would be monitored).
- You can't use the same account name as somewhere else? It really is worth creating an account, because as you can see from your signatures above your IP has changed which means that you can't keep track of your contributions (and may confuse people). Plus once you are autoconfirmed there is much less chance of ClueBot reverting you and your edits don't need to be reviewed. Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 02:25, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
