College rugby
[edit]The Lindenwood and New England edits were done as per the schools' websites. Although Lindenwood's women's rugby might very well become a varsity sport, it is currently a club sport, one of 20 sponsored by their Student Life Sports Department which administers their non-NCAA, non-varsity sports, not by their Athletics Department which handles the varsity NCAA sports. And, while Life University initially announced that they would begin women's varsity rugby "...as early as 2015-16..." and are currently fielding a team this fall, they officially held off the move to varsity status until 2016, and they are not yet sanctioned by the NCAA.
Penn, Princeton, and Yale were included because they are currently competing in "Conference Games" against other Ivy League schools that have already been sanctioned and approved by the NCAA, indicating a likelihood of their own imminent sanctioning...
As for your statement that, "...The sources say what they say..." being said does not automatically make something true— especially when it can be shown that, in point of fact, the sources were wrong... As Abraham Lincoln said, "Just because it's on the internet, that does not necessarily make it true..." GWFrog (talk) 03:09, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
- @GWFrog: Thanks for the note. I have undone by change to the University of New England as I had been relying on an outdated cite; I added a more updated cite so that other editors don't repeat my mistake. Re Penn, Princeton, and Yale – I haven't seen anything saying they are varsity; if you think they may become varsity and/or NCAA sanctioned soon, it seems premature to add them to the list now; perhaps it would be better to add them to the table when that happens. And on your point re Lindenwood and sources, we're getting here into WP:TRUTH; I'd rather just leave as-is and point out the conflicting cites. CUA 27 (talk) 03:56, 12 September 2015 (UTC)

Ohio Pro Rugby
[edit]After I changed Columbus to Obetz, you said, "No reason to change team name. And the team is in the Columbus market -- ie, the Columbus metropolitan area." I get the whole "Columbus market" thing, but Columbus has nothing to do with it. They have no involvement, it's all Obetz. They use Obetz facilities, they play on an Obetz field, Obetz has been with them every step of the way. So, you saying Columbus all throughout the Wikipedia page makes it seem like Columbus is behind it all. I just think it's more fair and definitely more accurate to say Obetz and not Columbus. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JacobGifford (talk • contribs) 20:24, 4 May 2016 (UTC)
- JacobGifford — Thanks for the note. I understand that the team plays on an Obetz field, but there are WP:RS that describe the team as based in the Columbus market. See this article for example. It's not about what entity is supporting the team, it's about describing the team location in a way that's helpful to readers (many of whom may be based outside of Ohio). I'm curious, what's your connection to Obetz? I looked at some of your other edits and it looks like you may have copied and pasted a significant amount of text into the Obetz article, which appears to be a violation of WP:COPYVIO. CUA 27 (talk) 01:34, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for responding. I know that there is certain material out there that say the team is in the Columbus market, but there are plenty out there that only mention Obetz, both nationally and internationally. But, I don't want to just start plastering those sources all over our conversation. Also, if you believe I have some copyright issues going on, can you tell me where you think the problem is? If there is one, I'll fix it right away. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JacobGifford (talk • contribs) 14:08, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
- JacobGifford — Two things here, both of which are important.
- Are you a paid employee of Obetz or otherwise have some affiliation with Obetz? If so, you really ought to clearly state that on your user page. See WP:COI for more info re wiki policies re disclosing potential conflicts of interest.
- Take a look at the WP:COPYVIO link. This says that you generally should not copy information verbatim from other sources (such as websites) and then paste that text on a wikipedia page; and if you do copy and paste, you need to make clear what you are doing (put the copied text in quotes and add a citation).
I'm assuming you're relatively new to editing on wikipedia, so hopefully this guidance helps. Feel free to reach out again if you have more questions about editing. CUA 27 (talk) 01:11, 6 May 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I'm the PIO for Obetz. So, nothing is wrong with taking the same information that I put on the Obetz website and putting it on the Wikipedia page for Obetz. Not to mention, nothing I put on the Obetz website is subject to copyright protection. It's all public domain.
I would like to get back to the original topic of Ohio PRO Rugby being an Obetz team and not Columbus team. It's much more fair and accurate to say Obetz, and then adding something like "Central Ohio/Columbus region" in parentheses would be appropriate. Yes, the "Columbus market" might seem justifiable because Columbus is more identifiable than Obetz, but it's completely inaccurate. If you'd like, I can contact the President of the organization and have him shed some light on the situation. If you are such a big rugby fan, you would think you would want to get this right. Think of the harm and confusion this can cause. People will type Columbus in their GPS instead of Obetz, traffic problems and accidents, fans missing the game, etc. You keep saying I keep violating Wikipedia rules but you seem to be in violation of WP:LBL. Another instance where you have made the same violation is the page you created titled “Memorial Park, Columbus.” That is totally inaccurate. I know you can’t edit the name of a page after creating it without contacting Wikipedia, so I would appreciate it if you would do that.
Besides being in the Columbus region, Columbus has NO attachment to the team. If you read the sources (I am also a primary source) I've linked you will see that. And even the article you used as an example only says Columbus area, but the team is in Obetz.

Your prod reason indicated that, "All information in this article is already covered by the Major League Soccer Players Union article." I found this to be untrue. Crucially, there were no references about this event at Major League Soccer Players Union. I have done a proper merge. Please try to more accurately characterize the situation in the future. Also be aware that WP:BEFORE applies to prod so this probably should have been merge or redirect not a prod from the outset. ~Kvng (talk) 14:17, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
San Francisco Rush
[edit]Hi there, I removed my request to move San Francisco Rush (rugby) to San Francisco Rush. When I looked at the page, I saw that it was a simple redirection, I didn't realise it was a disambiguation page before you removed it. @Yosemiter: was right to revert the change, I believe San Francisco Rush should remain a disambiguation page; doing a google search for "San Francisco Rush" just shows results for the video game, so if anything, that should be the primary topic. I will revert all the changes I'm made in this regard too. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 02:54, 10 June 2016 (UTC)

Leicester Tigers article
[edit]Hi there, Merry Christmas, I notice you have changed the Leicester Tigers article to a "C" class from the "start" class. I was wondering if there was any information you felt was missing or would have liked to have seen? Skeene88 (talk) 13:33, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
- Hi again, no particular thoughts on a higher marking; I'm always interested in improving the article so was just fishing to see if there was anything extra you were interested in! I'd then see if I could find it!Skeene88 (talk) 19:56, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
- That's some good suggestions. I particularly dislike the list at the top of the notable former player section. I may just delete that but have put a comment on the talk page for now. I also agree on the history section being too long but as per the talk page I struggled to reduce it more than that. Its all in the "child" article so feel free to trim a lot of this if you would like. I may go through it again soon. I really like the season summary though! Just on the repetition it does link to the individual seasons if that makes a difference!? I appreciate the feedback particularly on the introduction as I hadn't considered this but I do see what you mean.Skeene88 (talk) 20:17, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you for your edits. Overall I like most of the changes, however I am just going to add back in references to the cup wins in 97 and 2012 as well as the losing 1989 final. The cup final was a particularly notable event at the time. Skeene88 (talk) 13:51, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

Australian Sevens
[edit]Hi CUA 27. Starting a chat here that may produce a leaner and smoother outcome within the article talk. Yes, your desired change would need someone with mover rights and go through a process. I don't mind the change, per se. It might not be the answer that goes through, however. I will expand, but to start off with a bit of good faith, what are your thoughts (+ ve and − ve) on these?
- Australia Sevens
- Australian sevens tournaments
- Sydney Sevens
Thanks -- Ham105 (talk) 07:15, 6 February 2019 (UTC)
User:Ham105:
Thanks for the note, and sorry about my slow reply. My thoughts on the three suggestions you listed are:
- Australia Sevens is the best for me. It is consistent with several other tournaments on the circuit, e.g., USA Sevens and Canada Sevens. And the fact that a redirect already exists suggests that someone thought "Australia Sevens" is what people type in when looking for this tournament.
- Not a fan of adding "tournaments". Would we then change all other 7s tournament names to add the word "tournament" or "tournaments" on the end?
- The city name may not be a durable choice. The tournament has moved around within Australia -- Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Gold Coast. If it moves again, the page name will be out of date. The page used to be called Adelaide Sevens until it was renamed in 2012 because the tournament moved. Plus if we call it the Sydney Sevens, that mis-describes the tournament name when it was held in other cities previously. There are some other 7s tournaments named after the city and not the country, eg. London Sevens, but that's a situation where the venue has always been in that city (and likely will continue to be for the forseeable future).
Happy to hear your thoughts, and happy to open to a wider discussion with more participants if you'd prefer. CUA 27 (talk) 01:01, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
- Hi CUA 27. Thanks for your comments and bear with me for just a little longer. If we (you, me, others) agree on a name as our best fit, will that be enough to rename the page?
- From what I see the answer is no, not necessarily, as Wikipedia norms come into play.
- My preference is also for coherent naming but this might require nimble thinking. I acknowledge your point about the location moving around. (Perhaps I'll add a bit more on this later).
- The tournament does seem to be known as the Sydney Sevens. Is it really called the Australia Sevens?

[edit]User:Doug Weller — I think you blocked me in error, perhaps it’s an IP issue. Can you undo? Thanks. CUA 27 (talk) 16:37, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
- I'm very sorry if you got caught up in a block I did, but I see another editor also blocked an account that might have the same IP. I'm exhausted right now - chemotherapy - but am asking the best way to deal with this. I don't want to use CU on your account for obvious reasons, but there may be a way to check and as I said, I've asked - about 7 Admins for advice. I'm sure this can be sorted by tomorrow (it's almost 8:30 pm here). Many apologies for the inconvenience. Doug Weller talk 19:23, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
- Doug asked my advice. There's no way to know how to undo any block without more info. If you're no longer blocked, then I think this will have to remain a mystery of what IP block caught you up in it too. If you're still blocked, then read the block notice again, and follow the directions to request an unblock. The directions will vary based on the type of block it is (could be IP-only and you were accidentally logged out, could be a hard block of a single IP, could be a hard block of a range block, could be an autoblock that has now expired...) --Floquenbeam (talk) 15:54, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

Proper citations
[edit]Please try no to add WP:BAREURLS to articles instead use Template:Cite web this will protect against link rot and is the proper way to do it. Thanks Paulpat99 (talk) 05:17, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
