4im

Hey buddy. Thanks for your work in vandalism patrol. However you need to go easy on the 4im warnings. Those are used only in very egregious cases. If an editor is obviously engaging in vandalism it's OK to start with a level 3 if AGF is simply not possible. But 4im should be reserved for the kinds of vandalism that might come close to a zero tolerance block (WP:ZT). In plain English it should be used very rarely. Thanks again for your work. -Ad Orientem (talk) 00:44, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

I agree, I have seen you add level four wanring on users that only have done one edit, and sometimes not even that bad of a edit. Thanks for your work keeping the wikipedia clean, but go easy on the higher warnings. Best, Signed,The4lines |||| (You Asked?) (What I have Done.) 01:28, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

Edit issue

Hello, I just received a message from you on my talk page that said some of my edits were disallowed because they weren't deemed constructive and I have to say that I'm confused. I don't add things to certain pages unless there are reliable sources provided and I don't see the harm in placing the info sections in flat list form. I'd appreciate it of you could explain what the issues are. Thanks!--Rmcrae2015 (talk) 18:43, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

It was not what you did. Somebody tried to vandalize your userpage, and I was telling them not to do it. CLCStudent (talk) 18:49, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

Oh, my mistake. Thanks!--Rmcrae2015 (talk) 22:34, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

Information icon Thank you for making a report about Mbcscoop (talk · contribs · block log) on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, it appears that the editor you reported may not have engaged in vandalism, or the user was not sufficiently or appropriately warned. Please note there is a difference between vandalism and unhelpful or misguided edits made in good faith. If the user continues to vandalise after a recent final warning, please re-report it. Archive error

@CLCStudent: I think you have an archive error. Your MiszaBot config says |maxarchivesize=50. I think you meant 50 kilobytes, but Lowercase sigmabot III doesn't know that and thinks it's 50 bytes. Since very few discussions on talkpages are ≤50 bytes, I believe you should fix this so to find an archived discussion, a user doesn't have to search through 241 archives, each with only one discussion inside. If you're too busy using Huggle and reverting vandalism, I understand, but if you would fix the error, I would greatly appreciate it so I didn't have to go all the way back to Archive 186 to find one random discussion. Thanks and continue to tirelessly revert vandalism, 🐔 Chicdat ChickenDatabase 11:31, 11 July 2020 (UTC)

Supposed vandalism

Hello, I've noticed that you removed my edit to the top of the 'Gang' wikipage that changed "Caucasian" to "white supremacist" on grounds of being non-neutral. This was first done by the user Nyook and I gave this explanation (copied below) that shows how the use of the term "white supremacist" is appropriate in this context given 1) the way these listed groups are described as white supremacist on their own wikipages and how they're categorized, and 2) how the use of "African-American" and "Latino" in the 'Gang' introductory paragraph refers to membership origins and not a race/ethnicity-centric ideology, which is what 'Aryan Nations' and 'Aryan Brotherhood' explicitly endorse:

The term "white supremacist" wasn't chosen out of personal opinion, but how the subsequent examples given are described on their wikipages. 'Aryan Nations' describes the group as "an American anti-semitic, neo-Nazi,[1] white supremacist[2] terrorist organization that was originally based in Kootenai County, Idaho, about 2 ¾ miles (4.4 km) north of the city of Hayden Lake." The use of "white supremacist" here is backed up by multiple external citations throughout the page. 'Aryan Brotherhood' directly quotes the Southern Poverty Law Center's identification of the group as white supremacist, and the page is included in the category 'White supremacist organized crime groups in the United States'. The phrasing here is inappropriate compared to "African-American Bloods and Crips, Latino gangs such as the Latin Kings" since the latter two examples employ racial/ethnic classifiers in the loose sense of membership origins without implication of a specific ideology as emergent from those origins. The category "Caucasian" is not equivalent to these when followed by strictly ideology-driven examples agreed upon by the Wikipedia community to be white supremacist. To be made consistent otherwise, "Caucasian" should include within its scope the "Italian Mafia, the Russian mafia, the French mafia, the Irish mob," which instead are listed on their own. To maintain the structure of the paragraph without any major rearrangements, I have only re-edited "Caucasian".

Please refer to my original comment on Nyook's talk page, which hasn't yet been responded to. Instead of threatening vandalism, please leave me a message on my talk page if you still believe my edit doesn't conform to neutrality guidelines. --2600:8801:2C02:FA00:D805:C2CB:A083:9440 (talk) 20:28, 11 July 2020 (UTC)

"Vandalism warning"

Hi Sir, please next time before warning me and reverting all my edits which are legit, take a look at the information that has already been provided with the article(s) that I modified. For the last edit on the Salah Abdeslam article, this person is a terrorist and it has been explained multiple times in the media. He actively participated in the November 2015 Paris attacks, isn't that enough for you to consider this person as a terrorist? Next time, instead of threatening to ban https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Uw-attempt3users, at least do your job properly, because obviously you don't even know the subject. Thank you. --AnyDay (talk) 22:26, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Edit filter hits

I only learned about these templates this year, but in case you weren't aware, we have warning templates for edit filter hits. It's a good idea to give at least one warning unless it's particularly egregious vandalism. OhNoitsJamie Talk 22:28, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Hey

Would you please be more careful when reporting to AIV? You post IPs with one edit, often made half day ago. Use your experience to learn rather than repeat. Materialscientist (talk) 12:05, 6 August 2020 (UTC)

Agreed. I removed a few last night that are in a similar category. User talk:108.26.182.223 edited once at 22:47, you reported it at 22:48, and THEN gave it an only warning at 22:50. User talk:47.198.196.192 got at warning from another user at 22:57 for its single live edit (that triggered filters); you reported it at the same time without warning it, coming back to the page at 23:01 to tell the user it had been reported. User talk:108.29.149.176 made two edits that triggered filters within the same minute, you reported it within 2 minutes, and then told it had been reported to AIV two minutes after that. There's no need to be so quick to the trigger. only (talk) 12:23, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
And like this IP talk page history here... User:Materialscientist made the revert and gave it a level 3 warning. Why did you have to come along and give it a level 4 warning immediately after with no edits occurring in between? only (talk) 12:27, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
Come on, man. There's no need to report a user like this for block: Special:Contributions/2001:8003:ADA0:5A01:3827:9F1B:BDE1:2B6B. They made 2 vandalism edits and reverted one of them itself. It was never warned. The edits were nowhere near egregious enough to be an immediate block. Yes, vandalism on Wikipedia is annoying, but lay off the throttle, and please follow procedures properly. only (talk) 23:31, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
I hate to pile on, CLC, because you're a tireless vandal fighter, which we sincerely appreciate, but I find myself always having to check the timestamps on your reports because of the issues people are describing above. It makes our job easier if we don't have to second-guess your reports. OhNoitsJamie Talk 23:40, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

"disruptive editing"

What was that message you sent me about? I haven't made any edits in many months, and any I did make in the past were just countering the extreme left wing bias of this platform. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.144.236.248 (talk) 14:48, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

That message was sent a while ago in response to attempted vandalism which was prevented by a filter. CLCStudent (talk) 11:38, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

I just tried to de-spam categories

There are simply countless game characters, so I thought the categories should just list the ones with their own articles instead of also the few of these countless just comeyely arbitrarily chosen by someone to be highlighted like that. For some reason not one not two but three people jumped on me instantly. Tell me can I continue or not.

Well, you need to give an explanation in the edit summary whenever you remove content other than vandalism. Please do that because I really do not want to have to report you to administration when you are trying to do good, and now that you got a level 4 warning, if you blank content without explanation again, I have to report it. CLCStudent (talk) 12:49, 22 August 2020 (UTC)

Like look what you did: Agrias Oaks is a random character do irrelevant this name doesn't even appear in the article this redirect leads too (Final Fantasy Tactics). Do really think she's actually so important after all to show up in all these categories, if shes otherwise so utterly not important as to not appear in Wikipedia at at all?

If you think she doesnt, then I leave cleaning up all thes categories of this spam to you, because you just successfully discouraged me, congratulations — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.173.104.38 (talk) 12:57, 22 August 2020 (UTC)

I told you that you could delete content as long as you provide an adequate explanation. Those deletions that I reported lacked any explanation at all. CLCStudent (talk) 12:59, 22 August 2020 (UTC)

Apologies, I wasn't trying to be disruptive when editing the Like a Boss article. I did not understand why I was being filtered out but now I get it.

"vandalism"

May I ask why discussing the slaughter of bison as cultural genocide qualified as vandalism? It qualifies under the definitions given on the wikipedia page for the subject, namely relating to "suppression of cultural activities that do not conform to the destroyer's notion of what is appropriate" as well as "Any action which has the aim or effect of dispossessing them of their lands, territories or resources". I will happily provide citations to my edit if that would be helpful, but I would appreciate the removal of its classification as 'vandalism'.

Stop icon This is your only warning; if you vandalize Wikipedia again, as you did at Bison, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. CLCStudent (talk) 12:06, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

70.67.238.105 (talk · contribs), I personally think "desire" is a bit more neutral than "campaign of cultural genocide", though there are certainly sources such as this one that explicitly use this term. In any case, it's most definitely not vandalism as you have supplied an adequate explanation of why you made the edit, which I can back up with my own search for sources, and you should not have received such a warning from CLCStudent. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:56, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

Revocation of rollback

Hello. You will be aware that WP:ROLLBACKUSE says "Administrators may revoke the rollback privilege or issue a block in response to a persistent failure to explain reverts, regardless of the means used.". You are also aware there is currently a thread on ANI discussing your over-zealous tagging, questionable use of rollback, and lack of communication. Having seen previous instances of this, today I noticed this revert on Kevin McKidd and a warning on User talk:97.118.33.27 that "This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions did not appear constructive and has been reverted.. Since Kevin McKidd was born and grew up in Scotland, and appeared in the seminal Trainspotting (which happens to be one of my favourite films of all time, but that's besides the point) predominantly based in Edinburgh, calling him a "Scottish actor" is reasonable, and ought to be considered a good-faith, if misspelled and misguided, attempt to improve the encyclopedia. See WP:COMPETENCE. Indeed, a month ago an established editor reverted it to Scottish! In the light of these incidents, I have removed your rollback flag, which means you will be forced to add an edit summary for any further reverts you make. (Note: "rvv" for reverting blatant and obvious vandalism is generally considered acceptable). Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 18:42, 28 August 2020 (UTC)

@Ritchie333: This has changed literally nothing, because now CLCStudent is just using Twinkle's "vandalism rollback" function which by default does not prompt users to enter an edit summary. Sro23 (talk) 07:42, 29 August 2020 (UTC)

Crying 'wolf' at WP:AIV

Hi. I had an edit conflict with Deepfriedokra at WP:AIV regarding your report of User:Cecelia13. Like DFO, I was also going to reject that report. There's absolutely no point giving an editor a warning and immediately reporting them there when they haven't edited since your warning. This justs wastes everyone's time, and just serves to make me think your reports aren't a priority. Please wait and then report if they make a subsequent bad edit. I appreciate your motives in wanting to stop vandals - and I know you do a good job at times - but I've seen you make many such over-zealous reports before, and it is quite frustrating having to investigate and spend time responding negatively to pointless reports. Two bad edits a 'vandalism only account' does not make. It's probably just some kid who will heed your two warnings. If they don't, then that's the time to get the admins in to block them. Many thanks. Nick Moyes (talk) 22:44, 14 September 2020 (UTC)

Me too. Give 'em a full set and then report if they persist. Yes, I know some admins are more trigger happy likely to block than others, but that's their responsibility. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 23:03, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
It seems like nothing has changed since this discussion a few weeks ago. only (talk) 23:39, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
Oh you again. Not true at all. I have changed how I usually give warnings most days. CLCStudent (talk) 23:41, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
Before I was given admin rights earlier this year, I simply kept a separate Tab open for every editor I'd given a final warning to, displaying their 'Special Contributions'. It was then an easy task to quickly refresh and check for further bad faith edit edits (I enabled NavigationPopups, which let me mouseover the 'diff' link and preview their edits to gauge if it was another bad faith one. Only then would I use Twinkle to make my AIV report, but not before. After 20 minutes I'd usually close the tab. That's all it really needs, and that way we each help one another, and don't waste one other's time. (I hadn't seen the ANI discussion, so sorry about the pile-on. I'm just keen to help make things work more effectively for everyone. Best wishes, Nick Moyes (talk) 06:45, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

Regarding "disruptive edits"

Based on your action on my talk page, I suppose that you're abusing your power/privileges because this IP does not have any contribution logs for May 2020. Please provide me a legitimate proof of my action(s) that triggers the edit filter. If you fail to do so, I will report you for this abuse.

Sincerely, 49.237.18.78 (talk) 01:59, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

Yes it does. Someone using this IP on May 20th attempted to add a bunch of emoji gibberish to Mangalore Airport (Victoria), and as such the warning issued was appropriate. OhNoitsJamie Talk 03:18, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

AIV/UFAA

Hi CLC, Just a friendly suggestion - Inregards to your reports here and here - if you're reporting a user for vandalism and username then you only need to choose one board (in this instance I would've chose AIV),
Seems a waste of effort going to both boards for the sake of one person who's made one vandal edit,
Ofcourse you're more than welcome to ignore this but personally speaking I would've picked the most appropriate board,
Happy editing, Cheers!. –Davey2010Talk 20:02, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

They added a huge amount of extremely promotional material, adding honorifics throughout ("Her Highness Sheikha Intisar AlSabah") and peacock phrasing such as "With a name meaning victory in Arabic, HH Sheikha Intisar considers it her mission to to empower children, young people, and women", "HH Sheikha Intisar’s decades-long humanitarian work and dedication to issues of health, environment, education, women’s empowerment, child protection, and human rights has won her global acclaim", "encouraging others has always come naturally for HH Sheikha Intisar", "In 2015, together with her daughter HH Sheikha Fatima AlSabah, she co-founded Prismologie, a brand of luxurious body and lifestyle products that fuses the evocative power of colour and scent to help people embrace an improved state of mind on a daily basis", "After years of futile search for a piece of jewellery that could truly convey all her love for each of her four discerning daughters, HH Sheikha Intisar created her own brand", etc etc. (The last two quotes, and much else besides, are obviously pure advertising for things she sells.) It wasn't all good but pretty much all bad, and I have reverted it. Perhaps you looked at the article after I had removed most of it, without checking the history? That would explain your comment to the new user here. I wouldn't yap at you about it, since you do so much good work, except that it's kind of confusing for them to be told that they're doing it correctly. Lulua135, as I have already told you on your page, Wikipedia articles are supposed to be written in a neutral way, and not like hagiographies, nor are they allowed to contain advertising. I hope you will respond on your own page to my question as to whether you have any relation to the subject of the article. (Excuse me, CLCStudent, but I have added a header, so that this isn't mixed up with the note from Jimfbleak. I hope you don't mind.) Bishonen | tålk 21:25, 31 October 2020 (UTC).

Misuse of the Warning Template

Why did you template this IP here? P,TO 19104 (talk) (contribs) 15:18, 7 November 2020 (UTC)

That was in response to an edit filter trigger. CLCStudent (talk) 15:19, 7 November 2020 (UTC)
You should not have given a level 3 warning for a user who has made only one edit. The edits they made were clearly in GF. P,TO 19104 (talk) (contribs) 15:31, 7 November 2020 (UTC)

I did nothing, not even edit anything.

Hello,

I see that you've given me a warning to what I would call inaccurate blame saga. This means you might be mistaken me for someone else since that vandal shares the same IP address as me. Since I was completely banned, I hadn't edited anything Wikipedia, but due to my desire to correct information, I'll be challenging for my Wikipedia rights back. Until then, I only read what is in Wikipedia and not even edit it, although like I said I've serious burning desire to edit it. If you want to block my IP address all because this country is victimized by these so-called "vandals" in your eyes, you could've done it way way earlier.(which doesn't necessarily block me now now.) Thank you and good day!!41.215.171.231 (talk) 05:19, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

question on creating correct English language version of page

Hello. I see you just rolled back a change I made - sorry I am new to this and not sure how to do it. My query is this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Kaicene_F70

Can you please help?

Many thanks Bulstrom (talk) 14:22, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

I did not rollback your change. I issued a warning because you attempted to delete everything on that page, but the filter stopped you from doing it. CLCStudent (talk) 14:23, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Ok thanks - do you think you could help me with this query please? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Kaicene_F70 Bulstrom (talk) 08:25, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

Privilege Style entry

Hello, I'm unclear why an edit on the following article was removed on the grounds that it was not considered 'constructive': https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Privilege_Style

Could you please clarify what this means? I could not see this word used in the guidelines you linked to. The information is valid and relevant due to extent of the opposition this deportation faced. I was also told that I may not have cited reliable sources despite linking to flight tracker screenshots. Please could you clarify as I took the time to cite my sources? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Biasfilter (talkcontribs) 14:48, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
