Welcome Note

Thanks for the welcome note. Was it in response to something I did (or didn't do), or was it just a "Welcome to Wikipedia!" note?—C45207 | Talk 07:48, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Templating

I've noticed you left two templates on my page for copy-vio. Only I was the mover (and later CSD tagger) of these pages, not the creator. I guess this is just default Twinkle behavior, but you might want to be aware of that in the future. Shadowjams (talk) 19:05, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Those were just a FYI in case you had any additional stake in the articles: you had edited them after the original authors created them. I didn't see a CSD notice on the pages until I added one, so, being cautious, I let you know what was going on. It's not Twinkle's default behavior, but I did use the template from the CSD notice. Hope this clears things up. —C45207 | Talk 21:20, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

James Bridie (rugby player)

My fault in the first place, I'm challanged so little, I tend to forget to use cites now an again. Hope my reasoning was close enough to be valid. Thanks for taking me to task. FruitMonkey (talk) 21:41, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Usage of "their"

Hi! Regarding your Waikiki copyedit - Usage of "their" regarding a single entity ("China Airlines") isn't correct in US English - You would use "its" as "China Airlines" is an it. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:01, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

I'd say it's a style issue, not a correctness issue. (There doesn't appear to be guidance in WP:STYLE.) Is China Airlines singular entity or a plural one? But "its" is fine.—C45207 | Talk 03:52, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Even though the word "airlines" is the plural form, China Airlines is one airline, not a collection of them. If it was "those airlines," then the word "their" would be appropriate. WhisperToMe (talk) 04:02, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
That's part of the style issue. Are collectives singular or plural? "The Cincinnati Reds are a baseball team." vs. "The Cincinnati Reds is a baseball team." There's no fixed rule, though most are singular in my dialect. See, for example American_and_British_English_differences#Formal_and_notional_agreement. Granted, I probably should have checked the China Airlines page to see what the prevailing style was before making the change. Anyway, there is now consistency between the two pages. Good catch.—C45207 | Talk 04:18, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Pages related to the United Kingdom typically use British English rules, while pages related to the United States use U.S. English rules. Therefore we use U.S. English conventions with Waikiki. WhisperToMe (talk) 05:31, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the style advice. I'll try to remember to check related articles and style guides in the future. Let's move on.—C45207 | Talk 05:34, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

R.E Silverchair

Apologies, sir. I didn't realise the text was just copy/pasted; I had thought the editor who previously added it had already re-written and summarized it in his own words and quoted parts of it. 124.179.170.87 (talk) 06:50, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Foofology

It's unsourced, doesn't show any evidence for notability, Google hits = 0, either a made-up neologism or hoax - I'm not clear why you are suggesting this needs discussion rather than a speedy deletion? jimfbleak (talk) 07:36, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Even if not an obvious hoax, it fails on the notability criterion. No credible evidence in the article, nothing on Google. It's obviously not a real thing, whether a hoax or not. jimfbleak (talk) 07:47, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I'd tag for notability, although hoax is arguable. I don't think any admin would spare that article on either criterion. I don't think this is IAR, notability is a valid criterion and is regularly used for real things (bands, people clubs etc because they do not assert why they are notable jimfbleak (talk) 07:58, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Manitoba Social

Regarding your reversion of my edit of social, specificially under Regional heading regarding details of Manitoba social. The details I added are verifiable. I am a Manitoban I attend these gathering on a regular basis. Ask anyone from this province (Manitoba is a province in Canada, as I am sure you don't know, texas boy) so just don't go editing things you obviously know nothing about. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.79.87.224 (talk) 06:29, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Please see WP:V, WP:CITE, and WP:OR for information about verifibility, citing sources, and original research. —C45207 | Talk 06:34, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
While I can appreciate that wikipedia aims to have as many entries footnoted as possible, there is also something to be said for first hand knowledge. A Manitoba Social is a traditional, community event and its tenets are not documented in print. It's just a spontaneous thing we do dude, and the things we do at it aren't exactly written down in a source that can be looked up and verified. For all one knows wikipedia could be the only place such a compendium is being made. Stop being such an edit nazi and look at the bigger picture—Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.79.87.224 (talk)

Thank you for your recent edits over at Minnesota. You mentioned a guideline for liberalism/proggesiveness. I haven't found one, so maybe we could work together on creating one. I would love to hear your ideas. Wm.C (talk) 04:19, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

I don't remember where I read what I read, or if what I read was a policy or just sounded right to me. The gist was that American left/liberal and right/conservative are fairly moderate, in a global sense. As Wikipedia is a global site, we need to be cognizant of potential misunderstandings. I tried for about half and hour to find what I had read again, but wasn't able to, unfortunately. If you feel we should take this to Talk:Minnesota, feel free to move this thread. Tone

I tried to be more specific in my article, do you think the tone is better now? AFDA MP (talk) 12:15, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Not really. The tone issue I'm having is with sentences like "Cape Town, the Mother City, is widely recognised as one of the most beautiful places on the earth and is frequently listed as one of the world's top ten tourist destinations." It reads like a travel guide. This content should be in the Cape Town article, not the AFDA article. Saying that there is a campus in Cape Town is probably all that needs to be said. Stick to talking about AFDA. Don't try to "sell" the school. Also, don't copy and paste material from the school's site to Wikipedia. See WP:COPYVIO for more information about copyright and how to grant Wikipedia permission to use content that the school has created. Basically, Wikipedia can't use material that other people have created/written. The material needs to be expressed originally by a Wikipedia editor.
As your username is a close match to the school itself, you may also want to review Wikipedia:Conflict of interest so that other editors don't think you acting improperly.—C45207 | Talk 12:33, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
Ok I understand that, but someone needs to write the article first and then people will be welcome to change the article if they think its biased. I understand what you say about trying to sell the school and I will correct that, but im not copying and pasting, I wrote the orginal article as well!!!! AFDA MP (talk) 12:50, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
We should strive to write an unbiased article from the outset. If the article looks biased, it will just attract bad edits and may get deleted.
I don't know how it works at AFDA, but for me, anything I create in the course of my work belongs to my employer, not me. So, if I write a page for my employer and wanted to include content from it on Wikipedia, someone where I work with authority would have to give permission to Wikipedia to use the content. I've added a template message to your talk page about granting permission. The article is getting better, bit by bit. Hope this helps.—C45207 | Talk 12:56, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your suggestion at User talk:Yogesh Khandke. Are there any more templates apart from those here wikipedia:Citation_templates? Yogesh Khandke (talk) 08:13, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Template messages has many of the more commonly used templates.—C45207 | Talk 13:18, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

g.raghava reddy

G. Raghava Reddy(83 years) is a cancer patient and a survivor of two major bypass surgeries. This website was started by his students-serving and retired Indian police officers. It may have first hand tone, but facts are facts! You can also corroborate them from links and sources  ! If we have any serving or retired Indian police service officer, he /she will verify them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MATABHAGWATI (talkcontribs) 08:28, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the extra information about http://www.gongidi.com/. I can't seem to find a section on that site that talks about the student project. Have I missed it (as I so often do, unfortunately, as you have realized)?
Facts need to be verifiable especially because this is a biography of a of living person, and reliable sources are one way to help with that.—C45207 | Talk 14:04, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

As I have previously mentioned, the author for the "copyrighted" content is written by myself for Lambda school, so why will it be considered copyright violation if I am the originator of the content and I am posting my own writing?? I am not plagiarizing anyone's writing at all. I do not understand why this is become such an issue. Please clarify this issue as I do not perceive this to be reasonable or fair. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.27.242.151 (talk) 03:33, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Basically, we have no way of verifying you claim unless you take some extra steps to both show that you are the author and explicitly release the content to Wikipedia under a suitable license. I've posted some more information (it's a template), on your talk page.—C45207 | Talk 03:36, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

I am sending from my Lambda School address to prove that content is original and posted by the author of the content

This is becoming more and more of a headache here. I have sent in to Wikipedia through my Lambdaarts.ca email account (that I am the originator of the content). This is as absurd as publishing my own work on the internet and it is considered plagiarism. This is an unfair situation that really needs to be rectified.

From: angelachan@lambdaarts.ca Subject: No violation of content - I am the originator of content, and check email address - it is from Lambda School Date: July 3, 2009 11:48:12 PM EDT (CA) To: permissions-en@wikimedia.org

Dear Wikipedia,

I am running into an awkward situation here, in which wikipedia claims that I am violating copyright. This is not a reasonable claim, as I am the originator of the content, and I am posting my own writings on WIkipedia ( which I also put on my website).

Check that I am the director of Lambda School and I am sending you the email from my school email address. The hassle of constantly being rejected for posting copyrighted material (which is my own writing) and being threaten to have the wikiipedia page of Lambda deleted is absolutely unfair and is becoming much of a nuisance.

There is no violation of copyright laws, and this can be proven that I am the originator of the content through email.

Please kindly look into that.

Regards, Angela Chan Director Lambda School of Music and Fine Arts

How to verify copyright permission for article LAMBDA_School_of_Music_and_Fine_Arts

Hello, 70.27.242.151. Thank you for your interest in donating material from http://www.lambdaarts.ca/en/school http://www.lambdaarts.ca/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48%3Amission&catid=34%3Amission&Itemid=63&lang=en to Wikipedia. Since we do not currently have a method in place to verify the identity of account holders at account creation, we must verify such donations through external processes. The article has been blanked to allow time for that verification to proceed. The simplest way to verify is to place a release on that external website putting the material into public domain or co-licensing it under CC-BY-SA and GFDL, which permit modification and reuse, even commercially, as long as authorship credit is given. This release is irrevocable and must continue to be displayed, or the material may need to be removed. A statement such as the following would be sufficient: "The contents of this website (or page, if you are specifically releasing one section) are available for modification and reuse under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License 3.0 and the GNU Free Documentation License, unversioned with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts." If you decide to take this route, please put a link to that release onTalk:LAMBDA_School_of_Music_and_Fine_Arts so we can restore the contents. Alternatively, you may choose to send an e-mail to the Wikimedia Foundation from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org or a postal message to theWikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the CC-BY-SA and GFDL. There is a boilerplate release form at Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries which can be helpful. Please provide a clear link to the website in your e-mail and specify by name the articles on Wikipedia in which the material is being used. Once your e-mail is received and processed by a member of the Communications Committee, the article's contents will be restored if your release is legally sufficient. Please make a note that you've done this on Talk:LAMBDA_School_of_Music_and_Fine_Arts to help guard against premature deletion of the page. You can compose a note or very simply paste the following on the talk page, brackets and all: {{OTRS pending}} If you decide you don't wish to release the material into public domain or under the terms of CC-BY-SA and GFDL, you are welcome to rewrite the text from scratch at this temporary page. As long as the material is otherwise compliant with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, it will be used to replace the previous contents. Please leave a note at Talk:LAMBDA_School_of_Music_and_Fine_Arts saying you have done so. If you are not familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, you may wish to review Wikipedia:Starting an article or Wikipedia:Your first article. If you are closely related to the subject matter, you may also want to read our conflict of interest guidelines to get an idea how best to proceed. It may be necessary once permission is verified to address other concerns in the text, if it is otherwise inconsistent with our policies and guidelines. We apologize for the additional steps necessary, but as copyright is a matter of legal concern, we must ensure that we not only protect the rights of copyright holders, but also guard the Wikipedia project against inadvertent infringement. The article will be revisited in about a week to see what additional steps have been taken or may be necessary. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to let me know at my talk page. We also have a help desk which is typically manned around the clock by volunteers. Thank you. —C45207 | Talk 03:39, 4 July 2009 (UTC) [edit]Talkback— Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.27.242.151 (talk)

Thank you for taking the time to send this information to the permissions list. I understand your frustration. However, as I'm sure you understand, Wikipedia must have solid permission to use any content. You say, "This is as absurd as publishing my own work on the internet and it is considered plagiarism. This is an unfair situation that really needs to be rectified." Anyone could claim to be the author of that page and post the information here. However, how do we know if said person is really the author? By assuming no permission until explicitly granted, Wikipedia protects itself, its editors, and its subjects. Thanks again. (IANAL) —C45207 | Talk 05:44, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Permission via e-mail

You have received a response, I see, to your letter to the Wikimedia Foundation. It gives you the steps you must take if you wish to clear permission for this through that method. Alternatively, you may alter your "Copyright © 2009 Lambda School of Music and Fine Arts" notice at your website to indicate that the material is licensed under CC-By-SA and GFDL. These similar licenses allow your material to be modified and reused, even commercially, but requires that you be attributed and that reusers do not attempt to impose additional restrictions on derivative versions of your text. These are the licenses under which material on Wikipedia is released, and any content you place here must be made available under those terms (if you import text authored by someone else, it may be released under CC-By-SA only). If you alter the website, a statement such as the following would suffice: "The text of this website (or page, if you are specifically releasing one section) is available for modification and reuse under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 3.0 Unported License and the GNU Free Documentation License] (unversioned, with no invariant sections, front-cover texts, or back-cover texts)."

I have blanked the article until permission is cleared. If you choose to place such a notice on your website, the article can be restored when that is done. If you prefer to release through e-mail, it will be cleared when the OTRS agent receives a proper licensing statement. If you have any questions, please let me know. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:31, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Gayth deletion

That article was going to be deleted either as nonsense or vandalism; it was pretty much garbage either way. I felt it was nonsense enough to go with that; I could have switched the reason to G3. My opinion was it could've gone either way. No matter what, the article had to go. Tony Fox (arf!) 05:34, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Elizabeth McLaughlin RfD

You have Elizabeth mclaughlin listed on RfD. Did you want to list Elizabeth McLaughlin as well. (I don't know the protocol here, but I would think that you could edit the listing and add the second redirect as there has been no discussion yet.) -- Thinking of England (talk) 07:09, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

I don't really find anything wrong with the Elizabeth McLaughlin redirect to The Clique (film). She was in the movie. However, Elizabeth mclaughlin doesn't need to be a redirect too. It appears to have been an attempt to circumvent a page creation block. You, of course, are welcome to bring "Elizabeth McLaughlin" up. I don't know the protocol either, but it seems that it would be easier to merge a separate entry than to split one.—C45207 | Talk 07:16, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Ali Zaidi

I noticed you were doing cleanup on the Ali_Zaidi page recently. A few days ago I was trying to figure out how to recommend a page for deletion (and what categories or rationale to use for that) when it seems like it was deleted. Strangely, it's back, with no records in the logs at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&page=Ali+Zaidi of any kind of deletion recently, although it seems like Ali recreated the page with his own username in its recent incarnation. I don't have a lot of editing experience, so I was wondering if you think the repeated self-promotion is justification for using uw-longterm on Ali's user page and reiterate a message (that I'm sure was somewhere) that he needs to let someone else start an article on him if he is truly notable in wikipedia standards.

I don't feel like I have a lot of authority since I'm not really active around here, but I'm hoping you can let me know if I'm justified here. --Jj110888 (talk) 21:21, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

As for deletion, I don't think that any of the WP:CSD apply. It asserts some notability, isn't a recreation of an article deleted due to a discussion, and isn't obvious advertising. As I understand your options, WP:PROD is the next step, followed by WP:AFD, though you can skip right to AFD.
I don't know about the logs. I see four deletions, the latest in January, 2009. You seem to imply that there was more recent activity.
I don't think that {{uw-longterm}} is warranted at this point. I can't see who created or edited the first four pages. If article was created by different users, this isn't repeated behavior by the same person. Though, one person could operate multiple accounts, in violation of WP:SOCKPUPPET.—C45207 | Talk 06:01, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Samwell on YouTube celebrities

Thank you very much for adding 'Sam Norman' to the list on the youtube celebs page. Since his article is titled 'Samwell' and since Tay Zonday's listing is 'Tay Zonday' (as opposed to 'Adam B..' ), I wonder if 'Sam Norman' should instead be 'Samwell'. And since his Fame stems from 'What What', I wonder if that should be mentioned somehow. So like maybe: "Samwell - aka Sam Norman, most notable for What What (In the Butt) and his Brownmark Films channel."?75.44.49.114 (talk) 23:23, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Filthy Lucre

Hi. :) I just wanted to let you know that I deleted Filthy Lucre (band) as a G6, since the actual article is at Filthy Lucre. We run into this at CP now and again; if CorenSearchBot tags an article as a copyright violation of a Wikipedia mirror, it usually means that either somebody has restored a deleted article or copied an article from one space to another. In this case, somebody hijacked the original at Filthy Lucre to advertise a nightclub event. I've restored the original text and left the contributor a note about these situations at his or her talk page. (This hijacking is not unusual; that this person cared enough to do a copy & paste move is. :) At least he or she was trying to preserve the original material.) Anyway, I don't imagine that my deletion of this will be controversial with you, since you nominated it for deletion yourself after declining the G12 and since anyway the content is all at the other page, but I just thought I'd let you know. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:29, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for cleaning up this page. I'm new to Wiki and find it unfeasibly complicated. Did you see the post I left on Wizard191's talk page, or did you come across 'David Mushet' purely by chance? Obscurasky (talk) 20:38, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Not a problem: I saw your post edit at User Talk:Wizard191 and had some time to look at the article. I've posted some comments at Talk:David Mushet that, when addressed, I think would improve the article.
You may want to read "Your first article", which contains a lot of information about creating articles. Many of my changes were motivated by the Manual of Style. You can review that too.
If you have specific questions and need someone's help, create a new section on your talk page, add the {{helpme}} template, and ask your question. Someone will be by to help you soon.—C45207 | Talk 23:09, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (File:Ashley Tisdale - So Much For You 02-1-.jpg)

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Ashley Tisdale - So Much For You 02-1-.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. FileBot (talk) 22:49, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi, C45207! You have probably had time to forget all about it, but I have finally commented on your July 2009 posts on the Simple diff and link guide talkpage. Regards, Bishonen | talk 17:39, 8 October 2009 (UTC).

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is LAMBDA School of Music and Fine Arts. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/LAMBDA School of Music and Fine Arts. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:12, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

I DEMAND THAT YOU CLEAR UP MY GOOD NAME AFTER ACCUSING ME OF A COPYRIGHT INFRINGER ON MY TALK PAGE REGARDING THE ARTICLE SEI GESEGNET OHNE ENDE. ALL COMMUNICATIONS AND EDIT HISTORY THAT CONTAINS ANY FALSE ACCUSATIONS HAVE TO BE COMPLETELY REMOVED FROM THE WIKIMEDIA DATABASES AND MIRRORS. THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND HAVE A NICE DAY. AND YES, I USE UPPERCASE ON PURPOSE.

Thank you for taking the time to help us look into whether the content you added can be used by Wikipedia. I am not familiar with Austrian copyright law or the intersection of the Austria and the United State's respective copyright laws, so I very well could have made a mistake. You can help by discussing on Talk:Sei gesegnet ohne Ende the rational that allows the inclusion of the lyrics in the article.
As for removing content in the manner you discuss, please start at the topic on Suppression.
Let me know if I can help. Thanks.—C45207 | Talk 03:36, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Calmer Waters 05:36, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for Campus Ambassadors in Houston

Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you are listed as a Wikipedian connected with Rice University. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at another Houston school, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.

Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).

If you live in Houston and you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone else from the area who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:36, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
