Thanks for your contributions to Damar Services. Unfortunately, it is not ready for publishing because it has no sources. Your article is now a draft where you can improve it undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 14:44, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for editing! I found that page on the New pages feed and tried to help improve it. It's not my article, although I contributed more than anyone else. Your move to draft was a wise idea, I think. ButterCashier (talk) 14:47, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for editing! I noticed you created a page called Taekwondo,Karate but there already exists a page for both sports, so I didn't think this new version was necessary. If you think otherwise, you can create the article but I suggest making a draft first. Alternatively, you might want to check the pages that already exist and edit those. Request for advice, Possible edit warring (April 2023)

Hi, I'm new to wikipedia and to date my activity has been mostly anti-vandalism, but there appears to be an edit war happening in Hillsdale, Michigan. IP 96.61.97.209 has repeatedly blanked a section insisting that it does not meet the ground for notability, and I am unsure of the protocol here, i have already put the uw-3rr on their talk, but do i revert the blanking? Any advice would be appreciated. - FenrisAureus (talk) 00:33, 24 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for editing! From what I can tell, a version of that page has been written where there is a smaller section for the part that IP editor was blanking. I don't think their edits were entirely vandalism, since perhaps the text they were removing was not all relevant. I'm using Rollback to revert blanking. If any user wants to use this tool, it's suggested they have at least 200 edits and a history of good editing. Since you're fairly new to Wikipedia, I recommend you gain a little more experience on this website before requesting it. There's plenty of pages to edit over many sections as I wrote on your talk page. There's other tools you can use as well, such as RedWarn, but either way I recommend you get a bit more experience first. Thanks for your inquiry. ButterCashier (talk) 07:21, 24 April 2023 (UTC)

Genocide Denier On My Talk Page - Please Advise

There is an IP with a long history of genocide denial mad at me on my talk page for reverting their edit [1] for NPOV. What should I do? My reply to their post on my talk page was some variant of fuck off and a quote from WP:YWAB, but I would like advice on how to deal with this IP more generally. - FenrisAureus (talk) 08:49, 7 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for editing! Informing an IP user why their edit has been reverted (in this case, since it wasn't seen as neutral) is a good idea. The message they left on your talk page wasn't so much specifically about why they thought their edit was accurate as much as a general criticism of this website. I don't think that really required much of a response since they weren't making a point so much as stating their overall opinion. Responding to a criticism about neutrality with an opinionated essay seems less useful than referring to an actual guideline since it alludes to their point about this website being run on a non-neutral system. Still, I don't think the IP user had much of a good point so your response was fine enough, I think. ButterCashier (talk) 07:33, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
For future reference (not for this specific case, just in general) how would you recommend I answer comments like this in the future? Thanks! - FenrisAureus (talk) 07:40, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
Perhaps ask them to be more specific about how their edit fixed something from being non-neutral rather than a paragraph of complaints about this website in general. Responding with an essay, rather than a guideline, is probably not something I would do. Lots of other people could probably tell you better advice. ButterCashier (talk) 11:53, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for your help! - FenrisAureus (talk) 12:07, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

Loreto Secondary School - advice please.

Would you have a look at this if you have a mo .Loreto Secondary School

I'm fairly new at this and advice is always welcome.

This revision has blanked a lot as uncited but looking at the schools website it seems good.

Does this sort of thing need citation and if it does would it not be better to put the appropriate template at the top and leave the information.

Many thanks.

LWB Lukewarmbeer (talk) 07:46, 5 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for editing! In general, it's best to have citations for what is written on a page. A list of notable alumni may not require citations as much since if a person is deemed notable, they may have a page, confirming their notability. Even if the information that was on this page fitted with what the school website said, perhaps it was considered too much specific detail, rather than an overall encyclopaedic view. I'm not sure what kind of template you may suggest should be used, were the information to remain, and perhaps some of it should since the most recent edit changed the total number of students without a citation anyway. But overall I think it's better to have information that can be confirmed to be valid without extraneous points that may be irrelevant. ButterCashier (talk) 07:24, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. Is the schools own site sufficient confirmation? Lukewarmbeer (talk) 09:16, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
Generally yes. ButterCashier (talk) 09:19, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for that. Appreciated. Lukewarmbeer (talk) 09:20, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

Incorrect reasons given on your recent revert

Hello. You recently reverted my removal of a paragraph from Tolkien fandom, and left a default message on my talk page claiming that I removed content without providing an accurate edit summary with my reasons. You then immediately contradicted this by adding that your reason for reverting my edit is that you personally consider the site noteworthy. That's not how wikipedia works. If Theonering.com is notable, surely there are reliable secondary sources talking about it, as in the case of Theonering.net. Yet the only reference given was the TORc's very own about page. Tolkien fandom has a talk page. if you think TORc is notable, we can discuss it there, though I highly doubt you will find any reliable source giving any real notability to a website that uses it's social media account to enable and signal-boost internet trolls. 46.97.170.151 (talk) 11:40, 16 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for editing! I did think, immediately after having written to you, that it sounded rather contradictory but hoped the basic point was clear, that I think the website is a notable inclusion for relevance in the Tolkien fandom page. I thought Theonering.net was the website you were removing information for, actually, not Theonering.com - I was until now unaware that there was another website with an altered suffix for its URL! This can't be evidence that the page isn't notable, however. Perhaps you are correct in that Theonering.com isn't notable, it is at least clearly less notable than Theonering.net. Maybe this merits further discussion as you suggest. ButterCashier (talk) 11:47, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
It is indeed a different website, and knowing the kind of people who congregate around Theonering.com, it wouldn't surprise me that the confusion is intentional. There's a massive disparity between how the two sites are talked about, seeing as TORn is the closest thing we have to an official website of the Tolkien Fandom, and has wide spread mainstream recognition, whereas TORc is run by a couple of podcast bros who mainly just whine about "wokeness", in-between inciting harrassment on social media, and is virtually unknown outside the gamergate crowd. 46.97.170.151 (talk) 13:58, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
I'm not familiar with the .com variant - if you think it isn't notable enough to be included on the page you should refer all future edits concerning that to the Tolkien fandom page. I apologise if my edit was enacted too hastily (Hrum, hoom). ButterCashier (talk) 14:07, 16 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for editing! I reverted your edit on the Bicycle-sharing system page because it didn't seem to add much substantially to the page. It wasn't cited either - Wikipedia is an enclyclopaedia where it's important to cite information. Otherwise, anyone could make anything up and no one would know what is or isn't true! Hi and thanks for editing! I only saw your most recent edit on the Bryan Freedman page, which was a quotation without a clear citation. Now I see there was a citation preceding it, I judged too hastily. The quote wasn't written fully correctly - combining this with the supposed lack of citation explains my revert. I have restored your version, fixing a missing space. Apologies. ButterCashier (talk) 07:58, 21 June 2023 (UTC)

Automatic archiving

Currently, you're archiving config has no |archive= parameter set. The archiving bot will refuse to archive a page if the given archive parameter isn't a subpage of the current page or if none is provided, meaning that currently, no automatic archiving will take place. There's some more info at User:MiszaBot/config § Parameters explained on the details, but if you'd like automatic archiving, you should add |archive=User talk:ButterCashier/Archive %(counter)d to the template. Note that you have it set to archive any thread within 3 days of inactivity and have no minimum amount of threads kept, so every thread currently on this page is probably eligible for archiving right now, so you may want to reduce its aggressiveness before fixing it if that's not what you're after. Aidan9382 (talk) 08:49, 26 June 2023 (UTC)

Study invitation

Hey ButterCashier, thanks for patrolling edits and reverting vandalism! I wonder if you are interested in our ongoing study for patrollers. The study aims to evaluate AI models that power recent change filters, Huggle, SWViewer, and many other anti-vandal tools. Your feedback can be really helpful! If you're interested, please check out our recruitment page for more information. Thank you for your consideration! Tzusheng (talk) 12:22, 28 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi. That sounds interesting, I'm not sure whether I will be available for ten days but perhaps. It's nice to know some such study is going on. Thank you for informing me. Also, if you're interested in fixing mistakes, you should probably be aware that headings on Wikipedia use sentence case. ButterCashier (talk) 07:37, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for pointing me to the page about using sentence cases! I just fixed the heading. Meanwhile, we reduce the study period from 2 to 1 week, where people may choose to participate in any 5 out of the 7 days. I hope that helps! Tzusheng (talk) 00:57, 30 June 2023 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for doing your best to stop the racist vandal User:JannieJ148. I have blocked this troll. Cullen328 (talk) 08:27, 7 July 2023 (UTC)

My pleasure! Thanks for helping. When a user does editing that is clearly unencyclopedic, I have to at least warn them once before reporting them, I sort of wonder if it would be better to just report them for editing such as that but using Rollback, one has to warn to level four first. Anyway, thank you and happy editing! ButterCashier (talk) 08:30, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
The four level system of warnings is fine for routine "goofing off" vandalism, but swifter action is called for when dealing with an egregious matter like this. You can report it immediately to either WP:AIV or WP:ANI. In this particular case, I would have recommended ANI where you would have gotten an rapid response. The bottom line is that you did well in this case and I thank you for it. Cullen328 (talk) 17:44, 7 July 2023 (UTC)

Uniform civil code

Hello ButterCashier, a few minutes ago, you reverted some edits I made to the page uniform civil code. You wrote that the edits were non-constructive. Could you kindly provide further details or clarification on this matter? I would greatly appreciate it. Ummertheone (talk) 09:23, 14 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for editing! Having a look at the Uniform Civil Code page, I reverted edits from an IP user's edit, which I deemed did not add anything constructive to the article. The page reverted to the most previous edit prior to their involvement, which is your version of the page. Hence, I have not actually reverted your edits, but another user's. I hope this helps. You could have waited.

You should have waited atleast for a minute after I removed the content at Next Indian general election. Please see the edit now. It is supported with a reliable source. Shaan SenguptaTalk 13:51, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for editing! Concerning your edits on the Next Indian general election page, I saw you had removed some information and thought it erroneous, thus reverted the edit. Perhaps this was judged too hastily, based on your subsequent work. If possible, it's generally better to finish the full edit in one go, using the preview to see how your edit affects the page, rather than use multiple edits, leaving the page incomplete during the process, to leave the page in a superior state. I apologise about the revert and hope we may both learn from this experience. ButterCashier (talk) 13:54, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
The page was edited heavily. That's why thought to edit it in part. Sure we all learn from each other. Cheers buddy! Shaan SenguptaTalk 14:33, 18 July 2023 (UTC)

Sonic X-treme reversions

Please explain why you are reverting me with RedWarn on Sonic X-treme using an anti-vandalism tool on edits that clearly are not vandalism and leaving an inadequate edit summary in return. Red Phoenix talk 19:54, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi. I thought it was more standard to write the name of the company, in this case, IGN, rather than simply referring to the author. I used RedWarn since I am used to using it to revert any edits. This is a bad idea for non-vandalism, then? I suppose that ought to be self-explanatory. Sorry. ButterCashier (talk) 07:29, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
It’s absolutely an inappropriate use of RedWarn, for the same reason rollback can’t be used for anything other than obvious vandalism. For an edit like this, you should explain your change with an edit summary, and you can’t do that with a canned “reverting good faith edits”. I appreciate that you recognize the mistake and I’m sure you’ll use anti-vandalism tools well in the future.
On the subject of credit - yes, the publication should be mentioned, but if someone is credited in that article as having written the source, then that person should be credited for their words as it is presented as their words, whether or not it represents the journal as a whole. This should still come with recognition that said person writes for said publication in the text itself, of course, which in this case was done in the same main section two paragraphs above where it was acknowledged Travis Fahs writes for IGN. If there is no writer credited for an article or it’s just credited to “Staff”, then the claims can be said to be that of the publication itself. Red Phoenix talk 13:54, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
