Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, BurgessLouis. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template)—don't forget to give details of reliable sources supporting your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 18:21, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
Response to conflict of interest
[edit]User:Jimfbleak I have marked my original submission with the appropriate disclosure, but the content of the page is non-promotional and merely reflects facts. If you disagree please edit accordingly. Thanks for your dedication to making Wikipedia a reliable and balanced source - BurgessLouis (talk) 08:27, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- OK, I've found it now and put it on the article talk page, as required by that template. I'm happy now to leave it to the reviewers, but just to note that the books should have isbn numbers (and not links, which I've already removed) Jimfbleak - talk to me? 10:00, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks for letting me know, I was following Alex Edmans as an example page, but clearly that one is wrong too! I will update ISBNs when I get the time. BurgessLouis (talk) 11:51, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- That's a terrible example, although you weren't to know. Most of the refs are his own books, not exactly independent third-party sources. Books should be listed as you have done, with no refs, and should not be used as refs for their author Jimfbleak - talk to me? 13:59, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
