Why not? There was no discussion on the page - I thought if someone proposed a delete then they were supposed to leave a comment about it.  BRIANTIST  (talk) 07:25, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate images uploaded

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:SkyNewsLogo multichannels mid1990s.png. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Image13.png. The copy called Image:Image13.png has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 22:02, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:BBC New Media Village inside.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:BBC New Media Village inside.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 23:06, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Image:BBC Logo 1997-Present.png

[edit]

Here is a conversation I had on AxG's talk page regarding Image:BBC Logo 1997-Present.png:

I uploaded a version with the large blank space around the logo cropped out, but 1 minute later you reverted to the old version. Why did you do this? boffy_b 19:01, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The image includes the white space with the image from the BBC, I don't mind you changing it back but maybe you should talk to User:Briantist on it, as he will know more. --AxG 19:04, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have any objection to the cropped version? boffy_b 19:09, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's not me, it's the condition of the BBC in the use of their logo. It is never permissable to disregard the logo owners requirements, I'm afriad.  BRIANTIST  (talk) 08:43, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The only problem is the image that is currently there actually violates the BBCs own guidelines on the use of the logo. The BBC provide the images to help promote BBC services. If there is a better example of one of the BBCs logos that can be found and used, then it should be used. If the BBC provided a tiny 100x100px logo on the Media Bank website to use, would you use it? If you look at the media, there are a very limited few examples of where media from the website is used. One user shouldn't be able to overrule every other opposing user. 217.44.185.74 13:47, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It does not, the image was provided by BBC Mediabank for use on websites.  BRIANTIST  (talk) 15:10, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it does, if you look here:[1] you will find that the letters of the BBC logo should not be filled, however on this copy they are. Bilky asko 13:06, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
These rules are for use on TV!  BRIANTIST  (talk) 09:02, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your email. Apologies for the delay in responding, however we have been looking into your enquiry.

Thank you very much for alerting us. We have passed your enquiry to the appropriate team within the BBC who are currently looking into the BBC's on-line strategy and use of logos. Guidelines are being developed. The logos on Media Bank are updated on a regular basis, however, we will pass your concerns on to the team involved.

Many thanks, Nathalie

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Skynews1996.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Skynews1996.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Aksibot 03:34, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Portal:Hitchhiker's links in article mainspace

[edit]

Hi, I know you must have spent ages writing your Hitchhiker's portal, but can I ask you to go back and remove the links that you've placed at the top of all the Hitchhiker's Guide- related articles, please, as this is rather inappropriate on encyclopedia articles, and in many cases spoils the formatting of infoboxes, etc. This is particularly serious where the article is featured, i.e. the Douglas Adams page. If it's anywhere, the portal link ought to be in the external links section, or simply on the Wikipedia:WikiProject HHGTTG banners on talk pages. Thanks. Bob talk 21:48, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You vandal.  BRIANTIST  (talk) 09:30, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. Please consider making contributions or edits. Also, portals are supposed to be listed as I have provided.  BRIANTIST  (talk) 09:35, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't appreciate being labelled as a vandal, particularly as I did not remove the links to your portal, but spent quite a bit of time moving them to the correct positioning. I will remind you again that it is completely innappropriate to place a portal link at the top of a mainspace article. It might be sensible for you to read Wikipedia:Portal, in particular the section that says "These templates should be located at article ends in See also sections (or equivalents)." You'll notice if you look around the encyclopedia that even featured portals are not linked at the top of the articles. Bob talk 23:08, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever. Perhaps if you could make an actual contrubution to the site?  BRIANTIST  (talk) 14:41, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop adding the portal link at the top of the page. It's against policies and messes up page design. Add into the "See also" section.--Svetovid 13:19, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Five programmes

[edit]

A "{{prod}}" template has been added to the article Five programmes, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but yours may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. NB: UKTV History programmes has also been prodded for the same reasons. --tgheretford (talk) 11:36, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can't agree more, that's why I moved them from the main entries.  BRIANTIST  (talk) 11:59, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

UKTV History programmes has also been proposed for deletion. NickelShoe (Talk) 16:10, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:All freeview muxes graphics.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:All freeview muxes graphics.png. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. mattbr 09:15, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is it possible to create a image or a table using Wikitext markup without the logos in the picture. I think that is the primary concern regarding it being a replaceable fair use image. --tgheretford (talk) 11:24, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add an excessive amount of non-free images. This is one of the reasons why the article initially failed its first GA nomination. The length and depth of the writing about this rather trivial matter about graphics not adhering to physics certainly does not substantiate three non-free images. Reverted Vandalism

[edit]

I've reverted a rather old edit on your user page that appears to be vandalism. It had the edit summary "revocation" and seemed to be "revoking" your TV Barnstar. The edit was made by an anonymous user from 212.159.103.210 (contribs) who had a history of vandalism (it appears to be a shared IP address). If this was not actually vandalism, I am very sorry, and you are, of course, welcome to revert my edit. Otherwise, might I suggest keeping better track of your user page (perhaps through your watchlist). Insanity Incarnate 23:38, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BBC Radio logos

It's the BBC's webiste. The BBC website is using it = its a BBC Radio logo. The policy reads Wikipedia is not a collection of unverifiable speculation. - even if it was speculation, it is verified. CR7 (message me) 13:29, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Commercial use of Image:BBC Radio 5.gif

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:BBC Radio 5.gif, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:BBC Radio 5.gif has a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission, which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3). While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[5][6]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:BBC Radio 5.gif itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 14:56, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Brighton to Newhaven along the coast 056.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 18:03, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I've been doing a fair bit of work on the CBBC logos: basically uploading old logos with rationales, organising them on the page etc. I was wondering if you'd mind me renaming your logo from 'CBBC Logo.PNG' to 'CBBCLogo2005.png', a) so as to be consistant with all the other logos on the guide, and b) as it's soon to be replaced with the new logo, so it'll no longer be current. If you don't object (as I don't see a way of moving an image), I'll re-upload it with the new name, copy all the text over, and nominate the first for deletion. Cheers, TheIslander 18:50, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can I remind you about WP:CBALL as this has not yet happened?  BRIANTIST  (talk) 18:53, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You can, in which case I'll quote "Wikipedia is not a collection of unverifiable speculation. All articles about anticipated events must be verifiable" from WP:CBALL, and then point to this address, on the BBC, to show that it's perfectly verifiable. TheIslander 19:06, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It says that "Forward-looking articles about unreleased products ... require special care to make sure that they are not advertising". If you put on the new logo, it's advertising as the new logo is an unreleased product.  BRIANTIST  (talk) 19:09, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Have you looked at the article? Someone else just put the new logo at the top, but I reverted it back to the old for now. The new logo's just being used in the logo section for reference - it's certainly not advertising. All I'm asking is if you'd object to your logo being renamed, to something that makes it perfectly relevant now, but will still be relevant once the new logo comes into action. I'm not asking for a rename to 'OldCBBCLogo' or something like that, just a more descriptive 'CBBCLogo2005', i.e. the year the logo came into action. TheIslander 19:13, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't feel there would be an advertising issue, as this is the BBC, they don't need to advertise :P I think you should go ahead with your proposal The Islander. Good work on the article.  Tiddly Tom  20:16, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm... If you feel it's in the right spirit, then I don't really mind, I'm not the guardian of the CBBC article!  BRIANTIST  (talk) 20:50, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, but you uploaded the picture, so I felt it only polite to ask. Thanks for your input; I have moved it and requested deletion of the original. TheIslander 21:19, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

With regard to your comments on BBC Four: Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks will lead to blocks for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. TheIslander 10:49, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, feeling touchy this morning are we? Please explain how one single word is a "personal attack" !!!! That sounds very dumb to me, but clearly I have to point out by using lots and lots of words that this use of the first word starting with the fourth letter of the alphabet in this sentence is merely descriptive and not a personal attack... And I thought Kerb Your Enthusiasm was a comedy programme, but it seems to be a way of life for you very good self.  BRIANTIST  (talk) 11:07, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
