Without having tried anythign on AWB yet it looks like the regex stuff will probbly work though having it auto generate edit summaries describing what link was disambiguated to what article (and how many times) would be very cool. AWB doesn't seem to work.

I can't seem to get it to work. Whenever it tries to do an operation it gives me an error which reads as follows:

At first I thought it had something to do with my monobook.js, so I blanked it and purged the cache. Didn't make a difference. Then I looked on the URL given and thought maybe it had something to do with a blank line when checking for registered users, so I removed the blank line. Hello I just found out about AWB which sounds like the best thing ever. I have just spent the last few weeks going through 4000 pages checking the Wikisource links as about 500 of them were broken in when WS split into language domains. If only I had known about your wonderful tool sooner, it might have only helped the searching but that would have been great! Well I have fixed up English Wikipedia by the process of finding a wikisource link and clicking on it. If the link goes to a non-existant page on WS, then I determine which WS domain I am on (English or Multilingual). If English, then go back to the English WP page and hit edit and correct the code to direct to the appropriate language domain which can be determined by the link or just skimming the article. If Multilingual, I go back to The English WP and change the link to direct to the English Wikisource. Either way I hit preview and test the link. Sometimes it still doesn't work and I might have to search the WS as they have moved the article to a new name. Then I go on to my next search result, rinse, and repeat. Anyway I have finished all of English WP just last night and I have also done the Spanish WP. I was wondering if you could ask the people who have your AWB in the other WP language domains to look for broken WS link? I don't know if that is asking alot of people or not, but I am sure the other language domains are full of these nasty broken links which encourage people to add text to the wrong Wikisource (text which probably aready exists in the correct place). See s:Hesychius of Alexandria, someone has added this greek text of english WS and we have had to delete it. It has always been available at s:el:Γλῶσσαι and of course we can't notify the person of the reason for deletion and they don't read english! AWB 1.7?

E-mail me the source code for the newest version (1.6.2, I presume) and I can implement all the changes I made. These include: typo fixes, added bad link repair, sorting headings at the end of articles, and a new user detect script (currently, if a user ABCD is on the "allowed" list and AB logs on, AB will be allowed - I fixed this). Hi, I checked over your additions, thanks, all good except that the external links fixer regex appears to remove pipes (" | ") from normal wiki links sometimes, try it on George W. Bush, and the section order sorter is to easily confused at the moment, mainly for the reason you point out in your email. to be honest I dont think it would be possible to do it reliably, because apart from the existing problem it would always be confused by sub headings to the various sections, which is pretty common. thanks Martin 21:49, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

Looking at the Bush article, your metadata script duplicates the persondata - i.e., it appears twice. Check to make sure the replace metadata with "" works. As for removing the pipe, I can't figure that out - it's only supposed to remove the pipe if the link begins with http://. Finally, I don't think the subheadings will be a problem - who puts a subheading under external links, anyways? Is was trying a script that replaced all double equals with &temp; - that is, find ([^=])==([^=]) and replace with $1&temp;$2, then sort the headings chopping at &temp;, and then replace &temp; with == but it wouldn't work. — MATHWIZ2020 ^{TALK | CONTRIBS} 21:59, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

An idea - in private void Start(), after checking the wikistatus, add a script that navigates one of the browser to an arbitrary page, e.g., the main page, and searches the HTML code for

. If it finds this, an alert pops up asking you to read your messages before continuing, and then navigates the main browser to your user talk page (or the diff link provided in that message box). Good spot on that meta duplication, fixed now. Unfortunately quite a lot of articles have sub headings in the external links sections, and I dont feel comfortable with something that can potentially cause damage. maybe we could have an alert that warned that the sections arent in order, then offered to try and fix it?

Okay, the alert would work, too - after all, when a long article is a stub, you only have an alert, no action. Speaking of which, you might want to make the AWB remove all stub tags in that instace. For 1.6.3 (on the version info) - why does it say only internal? Did you remove external link fixing? What regexs did you improve? And, it says, "new messages cause it to check you are still an enabled user." (1) I thought it checks you're enabled every edit (from 1.4) and (2) shouldn't it say, stops you from editing until you check your messages, not see if you're enabled? The regex to fix external links was removing some pipes, so i havent enabled it yet. I cleaned up the large set of regexes I had done before, now much more efficient. It doesnt check you're enabled every edit (only that you are logged in) to do so would use up a lot of bandwidth. When you get a message it resets the wikistatus bool to false, meaning you can't edit anymore if your name has been removed from the user list. Martin 23:13, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

I noticed that my fix for the pipe doesn't always work... I also noticed that Wikipedia:Bad links added a new item (space at end of external link)... and I also decided I should write a script to fix uneven bracketing on both internal and external links. So I did. So, find the section in parsers.cs where you put in my bad link fix and replace the whole two paragraph section (one for internal, one for external) with these three paragraphs:

Hi, this diff (at the top) demonstrates a problem that can be caused be the regex ArticleText = Regex.Replace(ArticleText, "\\[http:\\/\\/(.*)\\]\\]", "[1]");, as you can see it removes a bracket when it shouldnt, can you see how this could be fixed? thanks (congrats on the rfa!) Problem with new version of AWB

I'm trying to download 1.67, but it's not coming through. When I click on the zip it gives me the error "Cannot open file: does not appear to be a valid archive." Red Link Finder

Someone left a comment on my talk page asking if I could make a red/blue link sorter. (Someone else beat me to it, but their's isn't user friendly.) Stubs and categories

Enough with the wikify already

As someone who is industriously trying to wikify articles, I find it very discouraging that you have flagged literally 1000's of articles as wikify in the past 24 hours. Many and probably most of them need it, certainly, but there are now so many that I'm just feeling "What's the use?". Perhaps your AWB could be a bit less picky or perhaps you yourself could wikify for a while (Hmmm, 6 months might help clear the backlog). How long is an unstubby stub?

Regarding User:Bluemoose/Unstubby stubs, I was wondering what you use as a criteria for inclusion on the list. Also, could I be added to the list for WP:AWB? I've got 3500+ edits, and would like to make small updates to many different articles, based on SQL queries run on the toolserver. --Interiot 22:17, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
