Adoption

Hello BlazerKnight, I noticed you were seeking adoption, I will adopt you if you like. If you want me to adopt you, leave a message on my talk page. Mr. Prez (talk) 15:23, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

I would also be happy to offer any help I can; with the caveat that I'm a very hands-off adopter, so just drop by my talk page whenever you have a question. –xenotalk 16:36, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
Okay, thanks! I'll accept the adoption. Well, my first problem is familiarity with edit summaries. There seems to be all sorts of abbreviations and links that are used... How do I know what to put in an edit summary? BlazerKnight (talk) 01:07, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
I've replied at my talk. It's probably best to keep things there, because I can be forgetful about checking back sometimes... But I can't miss the orange bar! =) –xenotalk 12:19, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Replied @ User talk:Xeno#Questions from BlazerKnight. –xenotalk 12:59, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

I've created a subpage to hold our discussions to make it easy to refer back on stuff. See User talk:BlazerKnight/adoption. Portions of this page (outside the "noinclude" tags) are being transcluded to my talk page. Feel free to ping an WP:SMS at my talk page when you update the subpage, in case I don't notice the update of the transclusion. Oh, and you can move the page if you don't like the current location. –xenotalk 02:45, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Please update your status with WP:VG

Dear WikiProject Video games member,

You are receiving this message because you have either Category:WikiProject Video games members or {{User WPVG}} somewhere in your userspace and you have edited Wikipedia in the recent months.

The Video games project has created a member list to provide a clearer picture of its active membership.

All members have currently been placed in the "Inactive" section by default. Please remove your username from the "Inactive" listing and place it under the "Active" listing if you plan on regularly:

Ideally, members are encouraged to do both, but either one meets our criteria of inclusion. Members still listed inactive at the beginning of November 2009 may be removed. You may re-add yourself to the active list at any time. Thank you for your help, and we look forward to working with you.

Talk page stalker award

The WikiJaguar Award for Excellence
For your recent assistance responding to a question on my talk page, I award you the WikiJaguar Award for Excellence in talk page stalking efforts. –xenotalk 12:29, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

Woah, was just kidding about a medal, but it turns out that there is such an award? The world acts in mysterious ways some days, haha. Thanks! BlazerKnight (talk) 12:43, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I invented [1] it about 4 months ago =) –xenotalk 22:12, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

Please watch what you are doing

Twinkle is not be used for reverting the attempted clean-up edits of administrators. If you do feel you must revert me, please do not do so automatically and use a proper edit summary. Taking more care would be appreciated. Moreschi (talk) 10:37, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

No problem. Just watch the trigger! Moreschi (talk) 10:37, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

FF.net

Just found your reply to me in Xeno's revision history. When I first saw you were on FF.net, I thought "Holy hell, I know you and I have you on my watchlist." Sadly, it's knightblazer85 I have. :P Aw, shucks. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 15:46, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Nooo! The sanctity of my username has been violated! I feel... unoriginal! I'll R&R some of your fics when I have the time. Cheers! BlazerKnight (talk) 10:39, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
Good god, no! Don't go near 8472 or Years of Hell if you value your sanity. Seriously, I could barely type 8472 up because I was cringing so much at my early days. A Troll's Tale is a fairly good short though and Correcting of Past Mistakes is one of my big projects (if I can ever get out my my writer's block for it). --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 11:20, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Dog Style Kungfu, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. BlazerKnight (talk) 07:26, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

If you're wondering why this is here, it's cause I tried to tag this article with Friendly, except that it had already been deleted by an admin, so I ended up recreating the damn page. D'oh. BlazerKnight (talk)
Good one! Its gone now as a no substantive content. G4 only applies if there was an AfD, not a speedy delete. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:13, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
Graeme beat me to it. It was a straight copy from a website, and was a speedy on copyright grounds alone. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 12:28, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Rollback granted

After reviewing your counter-vandalism work, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback can be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback may be removed at any time.

If you no longer want rollback, then contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some information on how to use rollback, you can view this page. I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, just leave me a message if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Happy editing! –xenotalk 14:02, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Editing others comments

Thanks, but the community consensus is that editors don't generally appreciate others editing their comments. Just so you know. :) \ Backslash Forwardslash / (talk) 11:04, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Dr.octogonapus

Hey. You tagged it as A1, no context, but upon reading it, it has context: we discover that it is a minor, fictional character. I have instead deleted it under WP:CSD#A7, which includes web-content, which is the appropriate tag for future reference. Happy editing, --Patar knight - chat/contributions 00:43, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Hello

Hi. I have no idea whether or not you are gonna receive this message, but I'm attempting to contact you.

Thank you for your comments about the HURRYIN' HANK LOWER Wiki article.

There was an article published by the News Sentinel. The article is linked in the REFERENCES area.

I do not know how you would have me "quantify" my information -- how much more accurate can it be other than coming 100% from the subject of the Wiki page himself?

I'm more than willing to do what is required, but do not know how to qualify or quantify biographical information other than checking directly with the subject and gaining his/her acceptance of the information.

I encourage you to "train" me. James Zanker, Jpzank (talk) 04:16, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Blocking

I notice that when you request for someone to be blocked, you go to Xeno's talk page. While that's fine in itself, I recommend next time you bring it to the appropriate board (list of links here) where admins active in blocking hang out. Also, Twinkle is excellent at making the reporting process painless. Cheers, BlazerKnight (talk) 10:56, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

For a long time I was stuck with limited internet access at the library, so I went to xeno as a matter of lack of time to search for the proper way of doing it. Now that I have broadband I probably will go through the official channels. Which section should I go to for general vandalism? --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 11:03, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
That would be WP:AIV. BlazerKnight (talk) 11:08, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, I was looking in the Noticeboards links. Wow. It's emptier than I thought it would be. How easy is Twinkle to use because I have a fear of coding and it looks like it's full of it. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 11:12, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
It's probably the most watched admin board and stuff there gets settled quickly, while more stuff piles up into scary backlogs in dark corners of the 'pedia. :P I'm averse to coding too but Twinkle can be easily enabled at Special:Preferences > Gadgets. All of the stuff there is amazing, try them out. You just need an updated browser and Javascript. BlazerKnight (talk) 11:21, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Oops. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 11:41, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Hehe, I see you've been trying Twinkle out. How is it? Feel better than hitting Undo, wait for page to load, type edit summary, wait for page to load, go to vandal's talk page, find appropriate warning template, etc? Now just click, click, click, done. BlazerKnight (talk) 11:55, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

() I remember in my early days coming across a conversation about whether or not Twinkle is fun compared to the manual way. I think the manual way is more fun, but Twinkle is far easier. However, I have no clue what warning to give to most vandals, like this one for example. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 12:00, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Eh, I wouldn't call that vandalism. The edit summary is sufficient unless the user persists in changing it. Twinkle's extensive warning system has a notice for many situations. BlazerKnight (talk) 12:10, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Well, that was just an example. But the only things I could think of where uw-agf1 and uw-vandalism1, neither of which fit. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 12:15, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Can I just test the admin report on you? I tried myself but some boring lunatic made that impossible. :P --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 13:03, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Well if neither vandal nor AGF is appropriate, just revert and provide a reasonable edit summary. As long as you make clear what you're doing, and why, using Twinkle to revert multiple edits is fine. Just make sure you're editing according to policy! As for testing admin reporting, try reporting Beautybay2009 (talk · contribs) for violation of username policy. BlazerKnight (talk) 13:42, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. Done. As for reverting in policy, to my knowledge, the time I reverted a user's entire edit history is the only time I've possibly violated that. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 13:54, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Carl Safran

Hello, BlazerKnight.....

Just to let you know that I completed the editing of "Carl Safran" and took the liberty of removing the tags you placed there.

I believe the listing now conforms to the requisite Wikipedia criteria but if you have any objections, please apprise.

Also, placed "Carl Safran" into pertinent categories (birth, death, alumni, etc), and noticed that his name has not yet appeared in those categories, so not sure if you must approve the categories, or how that works???

Thanks for your input and advice. I have three more Canadian biographies to place at Wikipedia in the coming month and appreciate any guidance. CanadianBiographies111 (talk) 22:29, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

It looks much better now, however the article is still an orphan - no pages link to it. You should find articles relevant to him and add some links. Also, I recommend you learn how to use the citation tools for inline footnotes and better formatting in the references section. As for the categories, the article does show up in them, try checking again and/or bypassing your cache. BlazerKnight (talk) 22:41, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I understand what you mean, BlazerKnight......but the main problem is this....most of what Dr. Safran accomplished occurred many years prior to the popularity of the internet, so there is very little data available online, hence it is extremely difficult to overcome the "orphan" aspect of the article. Many of Dr. Safran's contemporaries and work associates, who themselves are quite notable, have NO Wikipedia presence since they died long before the creation of Wikipedia.
I certainly appreciate the education you provided me and I will try to improve reference citations, as per your request. By the way, it's been a long time since I visited Australia (Sydney), and I sure miss that part of the world. CanadianBiographies111 (talk) 01:36, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
If you have trouble finding related articles to insert links in, you're not just constrained to articles about his contemporaries. Maybe insert links into articles about the organizations he's been in and the fields that he has advanced? Also, if you have access to them, you can use offline sources such as academic publications, newspaper articles, and the like. Keep up the good work, you're doing swell. And yeah, Australia is quite a beautiful place. BlazerKnight (talk) 08:17, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Oh, damn! Sorry. I have a mind like a sieve sometimes. I don't have time to do it right now, but smack me tonight and I'll get it done. Since you actually know what the game is about and therefore know better than I do about what to comment on in the reception area, how about you e-mail me (contact information on my user page) and I send you a Word file with the review written on it and the stuff needed for the citation? --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 10:40, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

No need to apologize, you're the one doing the hard work of transcribing the review (I recommend just scanning it though). Anyway, I edit from school, and the internet filter blocks email for who-knows-what-reason. I'll contact you when I can. BlazerKnight (talk) 01:49, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
I have two scanners and I honestly don't know if either of them works anymore. They may need drivers and I've probably lost the CD and I can't download them from the net because I don't know the model number. (is a genius) Also, my last experience with scanning a magazine made it far too small or far too big, no middle ground. I may have a fiddle with it tomorrow, but I've been up for 40 hours and I want my beauty sleep. --ThejadefalconSing your songThe bird's seeds 01:57, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

Not at all. I've still got my forest of signature combinations from when I was experimenting, so the review isn't going anywhere.
