Tamil was not a common language in Anuradhapura Kingdom

Tamil was not a common language in Anuradhapura Kingdom as it's before the establishment of the Jaffna kingdom. Tamils rulers came to sri lanka in this time period as invaders just like how South India was invaded by Parakramabahu 1, but were driven back by Sinhalese monarchs eventually; hence it's not appropriate to use here Tamil as a common language in this particular time period, but Indian users keep on changing the common language to Sinhalese, and Tamil instead of leaving Sinhalese only. Could you do something about it? I fixed the problem here, but I am not sure how long it's going to be there. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anuradhapura_Kingdom — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ceylonpedia (talkcontribs) 07:57, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

Same problem here. They keep editing that. And now they have attached a reference. Can you please look into this and do something about this matter if you can? V3arrior (talk) 03:31, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Sinhalese name, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Corea.

CC: @Materialscientist:

Hello mate, I see you have added dutch surnames to the Sinhalese name article. But these are Dutch Burghers surnames, Sinhalese people don't use them. I personally know a de Bruin and a Claessen and they both are definitely Burghers. The citation you provided is also not supported your claim. I think it is better to remove them unless you can find a source. The explanation of why dutch surnames did not take root in Sri Lanka as much as Portuguese surnames, is the dutch colonials were more interested in commerce than in religious conversions. Cheers.--Chanaka L (talk) 11:18, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

  • @Chanakal: Thanks for your comment! I havent done much research on Dutch names yet, but I think you are right. I see that you have already removed it. Thanks. Please feel free to help me out in writing the article.
  • @Materialscientist: Thanks for your countless article creations. I am thinking of creating a list of names in the future, please feel free to use this a resource!--Blackknight12 (talk) 06:00, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
Then we should remove Portuguese names too. Adopting Portuguese/Dutch surnames in Sri Lanka, even with a (minor) modification did not make them Sinhalese or Sri Lankan surnames. Yet they have been a major part of the culture for centuries - see List_of_most_common_surnames_in_Asia#Sri_Lanka, where #1-3 dominate the list. I think we should keep that information (major borrowed names) in the article by all means, just rephrase it. We could also mention others like Mohamed (#7 in the list above). Maybe then the article should be renamed into Sri Lankan surnames (not sure). Thoughts? Materialscientist (talk) 08:39, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
Different Sri Lankan ethnic groups have their own naming conventions. Therefore I think it is better to have separate articles for each ethnic group. For example, Celtic names have five different separate articles. So do Indonesian surnames. The Dutch surnames I remove from this article can be included in a Burgher surnames article.--Chanaka L (talk) 09:35, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
Materialscientist, actually I think they do. A lot of names around the world are adopted from other languages and become common in the adoptee language. There is no such thing as a Sri Lankan name, that list includes names from multiple ethinic groups in Sri Lanka. Mohamed is not a Sinhalese name nor has it been adopted as one. The list is refering to the Sri Lankan Moors.
If you guys would like to do some more research or expansion of the page here are some sources I have found:--Blackknight12 (talk) 05:59, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

City templates

Hi mate, Hyderabad is the nearest city to Sri Lanka with an FA. I love that article, besides Template:Hyderabad topics really impressed me. I think Colombo and Kandy templates should model on it. Agree? Care to help me with it if you have time?--Chanaka L (talk) 18:51, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

@Chanakal: Hey. Sounds good. Let's do it! Ill try and find time where I can.--Blackknight12 (talk) 00:54, 18 May 2021 (UTC)
A little dilemma. Template:Kandy landmarks will overlap with Template:Kandy to a greater extent. I am thinking of migrating and discarding the former would be the soulution.--Chanaka L (talk) 15:42, 18 May 2021 (UTC)
@Chanakal: Sorry for my late replies. Maybe for now we should focus on developing and expanding Template:Kandy, it is the most important temp for the artilce, afterwhich we can use that as a template for the other provincial capitals. Maybe the Template:Kandy landmarks template can be replaced or changed into a Tourist/Visitor attractions template like the one in Paris. Template:Visitor attractions in Paris. --Blackknight12 (talk) 04:06, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

Proposed Women in Green Editathon

Hello Blackknight12 -- With the goal of helping to progress the WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) women’s rights-themed GA nomination goal for 2021, I’m proposing that WiG hold a special editathon event in the fall (maybe October/November?). I can assist with logistics, but I need to know how much interest/support there might be from WiG participants first. Please let me know what you think in the talk page conversation! All the best, Alanna the Brave (talk) 01:48, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
