User:No More Mr Nice Guy

[edit]

Yes it's User:No More Mr Nice Guy. If he was deleted, then why is he still able to edit/undo/...??? I cannot talk to him nor warn him because his talk page is inactive! I checked his old talk page and I saw he was warned several times and had been engaged in active edit wars! 173.45.200.99 (talk) 06:34, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi! The user wasn't deleted, only his userpage. As User:Patchy1 says above, users can't be deleted; but user pages can be (as they are nothing more than articles). The user still exists and is active. Bjelleklang - talk 07:03, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

StillStanding-247

[edit]

I'm sorry you feel that way. You obviously didn't do much research then, you certainly didn't look at the lies and false accusations of sockpuppetry constantly thrown at StillStanding by the POV group he was running into; you didn't look into the harassment he received, the constant threats and promises of a campaign to have him blocked.

You can accuse me of assuming bad faith if you want, but he had editors talking about him in veiled terms like "our mutual friend", talking about strategies to get him blocked, talking about having him blocked for creating a draft RfC page, and who actively went to have others blocked for trying to research diffs for that same page. There was no "good faith" involved in this, there was a pattern of bad-faith edits by a battleground-mentality POV group who happened to find a set of sympathetic admins to their cause.

It's sad to see you are as corrupt as every other wikipedia admin. They are all either actively in bad faith or playing the "I see nothing" game. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.196.232.109 (talk) 13:51, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I saw the accusations, and I also saw the constant POV-pushing, some personal attacks, and also a very one-sided analysis of what happened in the exact link; he does not in any way appear to acknowledge that he might have had a part in what happened. As for It's obvious you didn't do the slightest bit of reading or real investigation; you're wrong. I did quite a bit of reading, although not of absolutely every edit StillStanding did, I just don't happen to agree with you. I had nothing to do with this before you asked me to have a look, and after looking at a bunch of edits and page histories I happen to end up with another conclusion. And if disagreeing with you means I'm corrupt, I really don't see how it's possible to have a constructive debate of anything. Bjelleklang - talk 21:35, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And if disagreeing with you means I'm corrupt, I really don't see how it's possible to have a constructive debate of anything. You're obviously not willing to look at anything the other side did. StillStanding's conduct wasn't perfect, but the behavior of those on the other side - who received no sanction at all - was simply ridiculous and amounted to full-on, concerted wikistalking for a period of weeks. If you can't acknowledge when behavior that bad crosses the line, you don't deserve to be an administrator. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.196.232.109 (talk) 22:55, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Vormedal, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Aksnes (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Regarding the DePaul University Department of Management page

[edit]

Thanks for the response. As mentioned in my earlier response, the links on the page are relevant to support the information on the wiki page. I am unable to understand why is this not legitimate. There are other pages like for College Of Commuting and Digital Media has all links to the respective official website page. Additionally, I am working on drafting the History section but I would request for the approval of the current content.

Thanks.

Hello,

I took a look at a few similar pages on Wikipedia and Wikipedia's description to understand notability and in-depth references. Based on this understanding, I have a added a few more references for the page. I request you to have a look and provide the acceptance.

Thanks.

Getmba (talk) 22:03, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

As per my understanding, the points regarding rankings mentioned on the page need external notability. I verified the existing links and updated 1 link and have updated some text. Kindly have a look and let me know your view. Also, if further changes are required with regards to the notability, may I request you to mention the links that are inappropriate. This will help me understand the required change better.

Thanks. Getmba (talk) 03:35, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

Thank you for the clarification. Based on it, here is what I found out:

Regarding point 3, the Driehaus College of Business contains both the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business and the Undergraduate School of Business, which is not named yet. All of the specific departments (Management, Marketing, etc.) are part of the Driehaus College of Business and teach classes at both the graduate (Kellstadt) and undergraduate levels.

Regarding point 4, the links have updated the Entrepreneur and Princeton review rankings to the pages which explain the basis on which rankings are done. I hope this is what is required for detailed references.

Please let me know your view. Thank you!.

Hi I'm a bit bit confused about the refusal on the grounds of notability. Regarding SoccerStarz page

[edit]

In reply to your decline of the SoccerStarz wiki pgae. I find it amazing that the page can be declined for the reasons that you give and yet another similar product called 'Match Attax' has its very own page with no problem whatsoever. Also there are hardly any references on that page and yet it has been cleared. This is one of the main problems I have with wikipedia, there is just no consistency to the decisions that are made and it is such a battle for a user to upload a new page nowadays. There seems to be this obsession with references, but references should only really be required for matters of fact or to support a statement. Not every single line of an article requires a reference. This is my honest opinion of the situation, its never made clear what the problems are.

There are so many other pages relating to products that are structured like this though and yet they are accepted. Wikipedia is supposed to be a source of information, why does it have to be notable? Surely just has to be reliable. Plus I was hoping that once it was accepted, other contributors could help me build up the page as its difficult to create a page all by yourself.

Hi, there. I'm trying to do an article page fopr an artist called Geoffrey Lillemon. I accidentally used the form 'I', I took it out already. What are the steps of getting the the 'speedy deletion' notification off?

Deletion of Logitech MX Revolution

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you recently deleted all content on the article Logitech MX Revolution, and redirected it to a list. What's the rationale behind this? Shouldn't this first be discussed in the talk page and be candidate for deletion? HuGo_87 (talk) 21:40, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article in question described a pretty unique product, since that particular mouse's wheel hasn't been seen on any other mouse AFAIK, as well as acouple of other distinct features. Maybe some of this should be kept in the new page. HuGo_87 (talk) 22:04, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
While I agree with the merges, this article did go up for an AfD and a keep was decided upon rather than a merge Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Logitech_MX_revolution. I'm not 100% sure on the policy on it, however I support the merge of all the products. In fact the merge is almost better since it provides a easy to read chart rather than multiple, short articles. Mrfrobinson (talk) 15:36, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me. Like I said I am in support of the merge, looks better, reads better, etc. Just wasn't sure if you were aware of the ancient discussion on it. Mrfrobinson (talk) 16:02, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I feel that your speedy deletion of the above album article failed to meet the criteria under which you deleted it. Gene Ammons does have an entry (as do all the sidemen) and the album is notable for a number of reasons - the artists last appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival and one of his last notable live albums (noted in the Allmusic review. I urge you to reconsider this deletion DISEman (talk) 01:07, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Restoration of deleted article

[edit]

Hello, Bjelleklang. A while ago I found that the editing history of the article Aldo Grippaldi started with an edit with an edit summary saying "Undid revision 528824552 by SDPatrolBot", which obviously made no sense. It turned out that you had deleted the article, and then restored just the latest revision, losing its editing history. It took me a bit of time and work to sort it out, as another article had been deleted at one of the names involved, and I had to sort out which edits to restore and history-merge, and which to leave deleted. I assume that restoring only the latest revision was just a slip, as I can't imagine any reason why you would wish to destroy the editing history. However, I thought it best to let you know, so you can avoid making the same mistake again. JamesBWatson (talk) 10:18, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of List of notable faculty and alumni from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.nairaland.com/1005321/university-nigeria-most-recognized-alumni.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

FABRIZIO "Simoncia" SIMONCIONI

[edit]

I am here just to understand, again, sorry.. You wrote "not notable" because recording, mixing and producing records (with more then 48 certified platinum awarded) and a latin grammy nomination for Best Album of The Year (his name APPEARS on the nominee list n the official grammy site, not just the record he did) is not enough for wiki standard. So why collegue as Joe Chiccarelli, Tom Lord Alge, Stephen Short, Andy Wallace, Michael Brauer, Tchad Blake, Chris Coady, John Congleton, Jason Suecof (just to mention a fews, but on wikipedia you can find thousand of them) are approved? And also why wikipedia in Italian and Spanish has approved the article since years with no problems, considering Simoncioni notable? Maybe he could be not notable for you but he for sure is for music related people and artists. Or maybe he is just not notable for the english version of wikipedia. If this is the reason, I can understand, otherwise, sorry, it looks little strange. Also because Simoncioni not only is a worldwide renowed mixer and producer, but also a live musician and former artist with references. He toured in Ligabue's band from 1998 to 2005 in Italy and Europe (including in many TV shows as the MTV music award (refs included). He also appeared on many official artists biography such as Litfiba "PROIBITO" official bio (ISBN 88-85859-96-8) and Ligabue "1190-2004 bio" (ISBN 88-359-5572-6) and LIGABUE SAN SIRO & OLIMPICO photo book (ISBN 88-900976-0-4). All the records listed are on the market so don't need references. I will not insist anymore after this, but I invite you to think about it and revise your judgment upon the article. Thank you.Simoncia (talk) 11:03, 2 January 2013 (UTC) I also added few more references to support the article including ALLMUSIC sources and official video clips from Warner Music where Simoncioni appear as performer.Simoncia (talk) 12:16, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In the last newsletter (which was quite a while ago sorry!) I talked about my fellowship and the plans for improving the main portal page, Help:Contents. Well I'm sad to say that my fellowship is now over, but very happy to say that the proposed improvements to that page have been completed and implemented. Do check it out if you haven't already.

Another important and frequently used help page, Wikipedia:Contact us, has also seen a significant revamp. You may recognise the design inspiration from the new tutorial pages.

In project news, we now have a subscription to the "article alerts" service. Any deletion nominations, move discussions, or requests for comments on pages within the Help Project's scope will now show up at Wikipedia:Help Project/Article alerts. So that's definitely a page which project members might want to watch.

Any comments or suggestions for future issues are welcome at Wikipedia:Help Project/Newsletter. If you don't wish to receive this newsletter on your talk page in future then just edit the participants page and add "no newsletter" next to your name.

Protection of Linux Mint

[edit]

Full-protecting the Linux Mint article seems excessive, considering that (1) the IP editor had been blocked for edit-warring, and (2) semi-protection would have achieved the same result. The block for the IP hasn't even expired, so there's no indication that the behavior would continue. My understanding of the protection policy is that the minimum required to stop disruption is preferred, and that's already been done, so is there any particular reason why you felt full-protecting the article was necessary, when the disruption had already been taken care of? - SudoGhost 15:13, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I just wasn't sure if there was something I wasn't aware of, but thanks for clearing that up. - SudoGhost 16:18, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. That's very true and unfortunate. It was a case of unexplained removal which I just reverted without taking a proper look at the content first. I'll try to be more careful nex time. Widr (talk) 12:40, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is "an HTTP" or "a HTTP" correct?

[edit]

Regarding this edit, I have raised the question at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style#Is "an HTTP" or "a HTTP" correct? that may interest you. I agree with you on this one, but at least one other editor[1][2] disagrees. --Guy Macon (talk) 22:52, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Note

Just thought I'd let you know that this exists, given our discussion a few days ago. Your input is appreciated, though of course optional. Cheers, m.o.p 16:39, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your comment on my edit

[edit]

Thanks for catching my link to the disambiguation page instead of the direct link. (It's now fixed.) It was an oversight, and embarrassing in that I correct others' such errors without sending a mail.

One observation - and a question. Neither the Wikipedia general entry for Rhapsody nor the dictionary entry notes that the basic word from the Greek (root rhapt - ) refers to a stitching together - a rhaptis is a tailor - so a rhapsody, whether literary or musical, is a stitching together of themes, often in an unstructured manner.

So how and where, in your opinion, should a contributor insert such additional material?

Hi -- In reference to your recent edit -- you swapped the "White on White" photo on the grounds that the old one was upside down; yet the new one is in the same orientation. I happen to prefer the new one because it demonstrates the artwork more clearly; but just pointing out that if the old one was upside down, the new one is too! Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Infastech

[edit]

Hi Chris, you declined my article for creation on Infastech, I have been through multiple iterations and had several attempts to create a solid page deleted. Perhaps you can view some of that history each decline is very contradictory to the others and very frustrating. Infastech is not a household name. There is investor trading news relating to Infastech expected this week, lots of people will be searching to find out who they are and what their affiliation with Stanley Black and Decker is. I tried to create a non-bias article with lots of references and citations, was told to add more and show other published info etc before it was deleted. All I am now trying to do is get the page created with a few base facts on the Stanley buy-out referenced in the article so others can contribute further about the company. Appreciate any help you can and happy for you to consider any one of the previous 4 submissions for Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Infastech. Thanks Dan — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danpils (talkcontribs) 21:31, 25 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.
    • Development
    • Design improvements to the SetClaim API module
    • More work on implementing the simple inclusion syntax that will be 1 way to access Wikidata data on Wikipedia
    • More work on Lua (the second way to access Wikidata data on Wikipedia)
    • Added parser page property to hold entity id in client. This fixes:
      • bugzilla:45037 - don’t show edit link if noexternallanglinks has suppressed all Wikidata links
      • bugzilla:44536 - have the edit link go directly to the Q### pages, instead of Special:ItemByTitle which shall make the link be more reliable and work for all namespaces
    • Selenium tests for deleted-property-handling
    • Selenium tests for multiline references
    • Selenium tests for add-sitelinks-from-client
    • Selenium tests for Entity-Selector-as-Searchbox
    • Selenium tests for language-table
    • Implemented in-process caching for entities
    • Lua support to access the repo data and implement getEntity (so you can use stuff like entity = mw.wikibase.getEntity("Q1459") in Lua modules)
    • rebuildTermSearchKey is now ready for production (this still needs to be run but once done it will make search case-insensitive)
    • Improved error reports from the API
    • Ground work for better edit summaries from the API
    • Added a table of content to item pages
    • Added debug functionality to be able to investigate why it takes longer than it should for Wikidata changes to show up on recent changes and watchlists on Wikipedia
    • Finished implementation of References-UI
    • Implemented GUID generator in JavaScript
    • Worked on fixing a bug related to deleted properties where the UI would display wrong information
    • Minor fixes/additions to the JS datamodel implementation
    • Minor bugfixes in Statements-UI
    • More work on RDF export
  • Discussions/Press
  • Events
  • Other Noteworthy Stuff
  • Did you know?
    • If you add a Babel box to your user page Wikidata will show you items and descriptions in other languages you speak as well without you having to switch the language
    • Want to know which items use a certain property? Try the “what links here” link on a property page

Wikidata weekly summary #50

[edit]
Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.
  • Development
    • Rolled out new code on wikidata.org. The new stuff you probably care about is:
      • Improved references. They can now have multiple lines. This should make references much more useful. You can now have one reference with for example values for each of the properties "book", "author", "page" to describe one source.
      • Fixed the prev/next links in diff view (bugzilla:45821)
      • d:Special:EntitiesWithoutLabel now lets you filter by language and entity type
    • Widget to add language links on the Wikipedias directly: added setting to enable/disable it per wiki and made it available for logged-in users only
    • Widget to add language links on the Wikipedias directly: improved layout / size
    • Made it so that the “edit links” link on Wikipedia is also shown when the corresponding item only has a link to this one language and no other languages
    • Submitted improved Apache config patch to make wikidata.org always redirect to www.wikidata.org, which is awaiting code review and deployment.
    • Improved the script that is responsible for taking Wikidata changes to the Wikipedias
    • Added a few ways to better debug the script responsible for taking Wikidata changes to the Wikipedias. This should help with investigating why some changes take way to long to show up on the Wikipedias.
    • Started work on automatically adding edited items to the user’s watchlist (according to preferences)
    • Finished script for rebuilding search keys, so we can finally get case insensitive matches in a lot of places
    • Support for multi-line references in diff view
    • Selenium tests for inclusion syntax
    • Improved parser function (that will be used to access Wikidata data on the Wikipedias) to accept property ID or label
    • Increased isolation of data model component to increase clarity and visibility of bad dependencies
    • Worked on schema access in the SQLStore (of the query component)
  • Discussions/Press
  • Events
    • 3rd Media Web Symposium 2013
    • Wikidata trifft Archäologie
    • SMWCon Spring NYC
  • Other Noteworthy Stuff
  • Did you know?
    • When you edit a statement there is a little wheel in front of the text field. This lets you choose between “custom value”, “unknown value” and “no value”. “No value” means that we know that the given property has no value, e.g. Elizabeth I of England had no spouse. “Unknown value” means that the property has a value, but it is unknown which one -- e.g. Pope Linus most certainly had a year of birth, but it is unknown to us.

Wikidata weekly summary #51

[edit]
Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.
  • Development
    • The first 11 Wikipedias can now include data from Wikidata in their articles (If you want to see it in action see the infobox at it:Torino)
    • Worked on automatic summaries for statements
    • Worked on making properties accessible from the client using their label so you can use {{#property:executive director}} instead of {{#property:p169}} for example
    • Made qualifiers ready for the next deployment (Please test. See details further down.)
    • Selenium tests for qualifiers
    • Fixed some issues related to QUnit testing
    • Worked on improved handling and code design of multiple snak lists in the UI (qualifiers, references)
  • Discussions/Press
  • Events
    • Newline 2013
  • Other Noteworthy Stuff
    • We’re currently carefully monitoring performance after the deployment of phase 2 on the first 11 Wikipedias. There seem to be a few small issues. As soon as they are resolved we'll deploy on English Wikipedia. All other Wikipedias are planned to follow very soon after that.
    • Bye and a big thank you to Anja, Silke, Jens and John who are leaving the development team at the end of the month and will work on other cool things. You’ll be missed!
    • Ever had any doubt about the possibilities of Wikidata? Talk to Wiri!
    • We worked on reducing the time it takes for Wikidata edits to show up in the Wikipedias and made some progress. Daniel posted an analysis
    • We started running a script on the database in order to make search on Wikidata case-insensitive. This should be finished in a few days and then search should be more useful.
    • In addition to the above we have rolled out a new search box that suggests items. This should also make finding things on Wikidata a lot easier for you.
    • We’re making some progress with Internet Explorer 8 support but there are a lot of issues with it (some outside our control). It’s unclear at the moment how much we can improve it still without spending an unjustified amount of time on it. You can follow the progress at bugzilla:44228
    • Edits are now auto-confirmed for users with more than 50 edits and account age 4 days: bugzilla:46461
    • Do you need old-style interwiki links for a sister project for example? This is for you
    • The Wikimedia Foundation applied as a mentoring organisation for Google Summer of Code again. We have proposed some Wikidata projects for students to take up if the Foundation is accepted again. At least 2 other organisations that applied also propose Wikidata ideas. More details on that once we know which organisations are accepted.
    • Denny hacked together a tree of life based on data from Wikidata
    • Wikidata was added to wikipulse
    • A template to retrieve data from Wikidata if no local value is set
  • Did you know?
  • Open Tasks for You
    • See note at the end of this weekly summary
    • Help test qualifiers (m:Wikidata/Notes/Data model primer#Qualifiers - see also example statements there) on the test wiki so we can roll it out with the next release
    • Did you file a bug report for Wikidata or did someone else do it for you? Please take a minute to check if it is still valid. (Thanks for filing it btw!)
    • Add some missing descriptions to those items with the same label?
    • Hack on one of these

Could I have 2 mins of your time? As I’ll be working on some other projects for Wikimedia Germany as well from now on the time I can spend on Wikidata will be reduced. This means I’ll have to figure out what is useful to spend time on. If you’re reading this could you let me know for example on this discussion page? Also if you have ideas how to improve the weekly summaries please post them. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk)

[edit]
Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.
  • Development
    • The first year is over. Thank you everyone for being amazing and helping to build Wikidata and making it more than we could possibly have hoped for already. <3
    • Put a lot of work into improved support for Internet Explorer 8
    • Worked on improving recent changes code in client
    • Finished valueview refactoring. Created new extension “ValueView”
    • Implemented string formatter
  • Discussions/Press
  • Events
    • upcoming: GLAM-Wiki 2013
  • Other Noteworthy Stuff
    • Deployment of phase 2 on English Wikipedia is currently planned for April 8. The remaining Wikipedias are scheduled for April 10. As usual this might change if we run into problems along the way.
    • There is now a page showing the current lag for changes propagating to the Wikipedias so they can show up in watchlists and recent changes for example. This should ideally be in the range of a few minutes. Right now it is higher because of some abnormally high bot activity but decreasing. Should be down to a few minutes soon.
    • There’s now a badge you can add to Wikipedia articles to indicate there is data about it on Wikidata
    • We hit Q10000000
    • A Wikidata item in the wild ;-)

Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.
  • Development
    • Got some external professional review of our code and architecture and started working on their feedback
    • Worked on reducing the dispatch lag (the time it takes for changes on Wikidata to be sent to the Wikipedias for display in watchlist, recent changes and to purge affected pages)
    • Worked on using Redis for job queue to improve the lag situation even further
    • Created new Wikibase Query extension for phase 3 functionality
    • Autocomments & Autosummaries for SetClaim module
    • Worked on the GeoCoordinate parser
  • Events/Press
    • right now: GLAM-WIKI 2013
  • Discussions
  • Other Noteworthy Stuff
    • Deployment of phase 2 on the remaining Wikipedias was delayed because of a high lag of changes being propagated to the Wikipedias. The lag has been reduced considerably now and is going down even more. The new date for deployment will not be next week because there are other large changes on Wikimedia infrastructure scheduled that we do not want to interfere with. It will hopefully happen very soon after that though.
    • Next code update on wikidata.org is planned for Wednesday. This should include qualifiers and bugfixes.
    • There will probably be a short outage/read-only for wikidata.org on Tuesday (database is being switched to MariaDB)
    • If you're a student and interested in coding on Wikidata consider applying for Google Summer of Code.
    • There is a new user right: property creators
    • There is now a page to request deletion of a property
    • We now have Bureaucrats
    • Reasonator was improved and extended (1 2)
  • Open Tasks for You

The Help Project Newsletter

Issue VI - April 2013

Open Help Conference

The Open Help Conference will be taking place June 15-19 in Cincinnati Ohio, USA. The conference includes two days of presentations and open discussions, followed by team "sprints" - collaborative efforts to write and improve documentation.

It has been suggested to send a team from Wikipedia/Wikimedia: to share our own knowledge about help, learn from others in the open source community working on similar problems, and to carry out a sprint to improve some aspect of Wikipedia's help.

There may be support available for volunteers to attend from the Participation Support program (and your editor is certainly hoping to be there!) Please join the discussion in Meta's IdeaLab if you're interested, and/or have suggestions about what we could work on.

What Katie Did (lingerie) page

[edit]

Hi Bjelleklang,

I saw that you turned down the page I submitted for What Katie Did. What Katie Did is the world's leading brand of vintage inspired lingerie and have dressed just about every A-lister going, as well as supplying lingerie for lots of films and TV shows. What improvements can I make to ensure it gets through?

Thanks
