Redirects

[edit]

Can some one tell me how I can get my wiki page called Master camouflage out of redirection or can some one tell me how to find this redirected page. I was told that I had to recreate with a new headding but the new headding got redirected. The page redirected and the page deleted are: Master camouflage (redirected to crypsis) and Phyliidae and Extatosoma tiaratum was deleted, causing me to loose all the info on that page al together.

Thanks for uploading Image:Thorax, wings.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 22:16, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(: ADMINSHIP :)

[edit]

I am going for adminship at 12 years of age! Nominate for me Wikipedia:Requests for adminship Help contribute to me being nominated for admin please click the link above and follow the prompts to nominate.

BJ (talk) 03:06, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I nominated you

[edit]

Hello Ben (bjaco18) I have seen your page and loved it i saw all of your pages on stick insects and how you care for them and raise them, so I have actually nominated you for adminship on Wikipedia. Good luck :)

I have deleted the above image. Please do not take images from other websites and upload them under licenses that they have not been released under. This could get both you and Wikipedia into legal trouble, and continuing to do it will result in you being blocked from editing. J Milburn (talk) 18:25, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have also deleted all of the images you have stolen from other websites, leaving only the ones you took yourself. Consider this a stern warning- stop uploading images from other websites as your own. On the other hand, please feel free to continue uploading your own work- that is more than welcome. J Milburn (talk) 18:36, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Long & short winged

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Long & short winged, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? J Milburn (talk) 19:03, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Bjaco18, a page you created, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Bjaco18 and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Bjaco18 during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 19:18, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Long & short winged

[edit]

I have nominated Long & short winged, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Long & short winged. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? J Milburn (talk) 21:08, 14 May 2008 (UTC) [reply]

friendly advice

[edit]

If you would like to withdraw your AfD, please just place {{db-self}} on the page & it will be taken care of with no fuss at all. It's really to your interest to do so--it wasn't that great an idea in the first place, as I'm sure you realise. I apologise for us all that you weren't simply asked first before starting the MfD deletion request. DGG (talk) 18:30, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think DGG is referring to your RfA (request for adminship), rather than your AfD (article for deletion). J Milburn (talk) 18:37, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice :) BJ (talk) 20:54, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Very Angry!

[edit]

Someone has deleted Half of my page Titan stick insect which makes me really mad because that was one of my biggest pages, Now I have to re-do-it. Please reply if the person finds this page. :( BJ (talk) 21:06, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you don't agree with the changes that another user has made to a wikipedia article then you can easily revert their changes to an earlier version of the article. See the page Help:Reverting for details. In this case (i think) that User:J Milburn was repsonsible so it may be an idea to discuss it with him on his talk page (User talk:J Milburn). Thanks, Nk.sheridan   Talk 21:22, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it was me. Your work is still accessible in the page history, so you can get the text if you want it. I removed the information because a lot of it was unencyclopedic- for instance, information about how to keep them as pets is interesting, but it isn't suitable for an encyclopedia article; perhaps somewhere like WikiBooks (maybe their book on pets) would be a better place for that information. On top of being unencyclopedic, none of the information was referenced. On Wikipedia, we must cite what we say to reliable sources. Hope that helps- ping me on my talk page if you would like to discuss the matter further. J Milburn (talk) 21:30, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:REQUEST LETTER PLEASE READ

[edit]

First of all, block capitals are not a good idea- a lot of people will just ignore messages formatted in caps. Secondly, the images were taken from elsewhere with copyright licenses incompatible with Wikipedia, and you claimed them to be your own work and claimed you had released them under a free license. Publishing someone else's work as your own is stealing. Images that have not been released under a free license are almost always incompatible with Wikipedia, and I would not advise uploading any until you are more familiar with our image policies. J Milburn (talk) 21:25, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can find the removed information by clicking on the 'history' tab at the top of the page. J Milburn (talk) 21:38, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Bjaco. Uploading images is quite a complex area. There is a tutorial to look at here which might help you understand what you can and cannot upload to wikipedia. cheers, Nk.sheridan   Talk 21:33, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Adminship

[edit]

Hi- I don't think you're quite ready for adminship yet, but don't worry about it- being an admin doesn't get you more respect, it's just a few more tools to help you edit Wikipedia in different ways. You'll need a little more experience writing articles and doing other things (taking part in discussions, for example) and you will need some more knowledge of our policies and guidelines. You might also want to learn a little more about what an admin actually is. J Milburn (talk) 09:34, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Good morning

[edit]

Hello again. Firstly, I'm not called Jack- where did you get that idea? Secondly, I'm really not sure what you mean- there's not a paragraph at the titan stick insect article about keeping them as pets- there used to be one, but there isn't one now. What do you want help with? J Milburn (talk) 20:34, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, if you mean Wikibooks, I don't think I can help you there- I have never edited Wikibooks, so I don't really know how it works. Sorry. J Milburn (talk) 20:36, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'm Josh. I can't take it to Wikibooks- as I say, I don't know anything about it over there, you'll have to go and create an account and add it yourself. The text that used to be on the page was-

Keeping them: The leaves they eat are: Blood Wood gum, cypress pine, grey box gum, paper bark, scribbly gum and more. The cleaning tools: tweezers, forceps, scoopers, sifters etc. The nourishment tools: Spray bottle, Horse furr paint brushes (small) The health/cut tools: Nail hardener for exoskeleton repair, health-exotic pet vet Dr will give advice on how to heal the internal injury.

If you were having trouble finding it. J Milburn (talk) 20:47, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Document for J millburn

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Document for J millburn, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 21:08, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can see the page, as I'm an admin- the content isn't really appropriate for Wikipedia- why did you create that page? If you want the content to go on Wikibooks, you'll have to go and add it there yourself, not add it in various places around Wikipedia. J Milburn (talk) 21:18, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'd rather not discuss matters by email, if it's avoidable. Is this a confidential issue that cannot be discussed on talk pages? J Milburn (talk) 21:41, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Right, you have already set an email address for this account, so you can email me your problem by going to my userpage, and clicking the link 'email this user' below the search bar on the left. This will open a box where you can type your problems, and it will be sent to my email inbox. I would prefer it if we kept our communication limited to the Wikipedia email system. Featured article and adminship

[edit]

Articles are promoted to featured status by being nominated (at featured article candidates) and then discussed, and then one of the featured article directors decides if the article is good enough. Writing a featured article takes a lot of work (I've only written one- this) because they have to be nearly perfect- see the list of criteria. At the moment, none of the articles you have contributed to would even have a chance of becoming good articles, never mind featured article. As for becoming an admin, your request for adminship would be closed early as it would have no chance of passing. You just don't have the experience with Wikipedia yet- you don't seem to quite understand exactly what an administrator actually is or does, you don't have much experience with our policies and guidelines and you don't really have much experience with article writing. It's probably best to wait until you've had a good bit more experience with Wikipedia- wait until you've had a few disputes, written a few decent articles, had some experience with article deletion and got to grips with our image copyright rules, among other things. There are a lot of things that admins have to be reasonably proficient with, but the key thing is that they are trusted by the community, and you haven't really been around long enough to show that you can be trusted. J Milburn (talk) 20:53, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, it doesn't. Some people choose to edit under their real names, others don't. J Milburn (talk) 21:29, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi. I reverted this edit. Today's featured articles are chosen soley by the FA director, User:Raul654, or User:SandyGeorgia. Thanks. ♫ Cricket02 (talk) 21:47, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I explained this to you, Ben. Featured articles have to be nominated at the featured article candidate page, and must meet certain requirements. None of the articles you have written are anywhere near the required standard yet. J Milburn (talk) 21:52, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your two questions

[edit]

I don't know if Weird Al has ever edited Wikipedia, perhaps this category will be of interest to you. I don't know exactly what you mean about gold stars, but if you click 'edit this page' you should be able to find the code that I am using to put things there. However, remember that people do not appreciate you lying on your userpage- for example, saying that you're an admin when you aren't. J Milburn (talk) 10:59, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In answer to your other questions, instructions about how to create userboxes can be found here, and information about redirects can be found here. You may want to check for a Wikipedia space page with instructions before asking for help in future- there are guidelines and help pages for most things. J Milburn (talk) 21:39, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mean barnstars? Users award them to one another when they feel the other user has done a good job with something- they can be awarded by/given to anyone- not just admins. J Milburn (talk) 22:04, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User Adoption

[edit]

Hi, I've noticed that whilst having added some good content you might interested in learning more about editing, wikipedia policies and usage of images etc. As such, it might be an idea for you to look into the user adoption program.

In this program experienced editors/admins assist new users with the ins and outs of wikipedia. All you need to do is add the text {{subst:dated adoptme}} to your userpage and someone will adopt you! Cheers, Nk.sheridan   Talk 22:32, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't recommend that you adopt someone else, I think Nk.sheridan meant that you would benefit from being adopted yourself. You aren't quite experienced enough with Wikipedia yet to be at the stage where you should be adopting other users. Also, I did not fight with another user, nor did I 'turn him emo', you appear to have misjudged the situation. As for cleaning up the page you pointed me to, I am unfamiliar with the subject matter, why don't you do it? J Milburn (talk) 11:10, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Then why not ask the person who tagged it? J Milburn (talk) 19:31, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Click the 'history' tab? J Milburn (talk) 19:38, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You join a WikiProject by adding yourself to the list of members, but a lot of people who do WikiProject work don't bother to add themselves. I'd rather not to be the one who adopts you, I think there are others who will be able to help you more. J Milburn (talk) 20:34, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You'll have to get some software to do that, there isn't a on-Wiki tool for image modification. I'm afraid I can't recommend any particular programs, as it is not something I've ever really done. J Milburn (talk) 21:11, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits

[edit]

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 20:59, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ben, the above article completely lacks WP:MOS. Headline, section break, image positioning and external links need to be fixed. I think you should create separate article for each insect. Because different information on insects under one article really makes whole entry vague and reader might lose their patient. Thank you--NAHID 06:03, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have made some drastic changes to the article. I suppose, on the surface, it would look very rude, as I have removed all the species sections that already has an article. I created links leading to the appropriate articles, and on the way had to create half a dozen redirect pages and do a page move.
Don't lose heart. Once individual species are appropriated to their own pages (yep, I believe they must have their stand alone pages... that's showing some respect to our join-legged brethren) we can start filling this article up with information on their population in the Brisbane area, their impact on the locality (a couple of them have the effect of a plague in the Great South East, right?), and so on. Brisbane should be the ruling factor in this article, not generalized description of each species.
I am also for adding back a gallery of images, so that the people of Brisbane can identify their insects by their looks when coming to this article (I can help doing that too). I am ready to lend a hand here, since I am the one who hacked the article down to a tiny stub. May the force be with you. Aditya(talkcontribs) 14:11, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Here are a few links that might help: Practical Conservation Biology, Zoological Catalogue of Australia, True Gardens of the Gods, Tropical Fruit Pests and Pollinators, and Lepidoptera, Moths and Butterflies. Forgive me if they are not of much use. I promise to dig up more stuff, and actively lend a hand. Aditya(talkcontribs) 14:32, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh! My bad. The title suggested it's about insects in general. Would you prefer to change the title to "Brisban mantids" or something? Aditya(talkcontribs) 01:56, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Bjaco, I have closed your RfA because it had little to no chance of passing at this time. I suggest you look through the concerns raised by those who opposed, keep working hard, and, if you like, try once again in a few months time. Best, and good luck, -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 07:59, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bjaco18, I am concerned about the image Image:Tesselated phasmid.jpg which you uploaded. The copyright tag you have put on this image says that you are the copyright holder for that image and you have made it available for any use both commercial and non-commercial. However, the website that you got the image from clearly states that "Charges will be apply if the photos are for commercial use." (see [1]). It therefore appears that you have tagged this image incorrectly. Since the image may not be used on a commercial website without charge it cannot be used on Wikipedia. Please let me know what the situation is here, since at the moment it seems that the image should be deleted. Thanks, Gwernol 10:02, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have deleted the image. I have warned you about this before- whether you feel that I am your friend on Wikipedia, I will block you for disruption if you continue to upload photos that you have taken from other websites. Some are usable, yes, but almost none of the images on the Internet (and none from that website) can be uploaded to Wikipedia. J Milburn (talk) 17:23, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your new wave of questions...

[edit]

Barnstars are generally given when people achieve something on Wikipedia. I don't really award many barnstars myself- perhaps when you are adopted, your adopter will give you barnstars if you reach milestones that they set. Thanks for your barnstar to me, I'll add it to my userpage in a minute. I see your RfA was closed early- as I said before, you really, really aren't ready for adminship yet- you just aren't familiar enough with our policies and things, as shown by the amount of questions that you ask! This isn't a bad thing, but hopefully the person who adopts you will be more able to help you than I am (we're in different time zones for a start). You can ask to change your username if you want to at this page, but it's an awkward procedure, so it's probably not worth it. The RfA page can be found at WP:RFA, and your RfA (now closed, so don't edit it) is at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Bjaco18. Apologies if these replies are late, I have had a few off-Wikipedia things going on that I would rather not discuss. J Milburn (talk) 17:12, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image removals

[edit]

Trust me, the page is far from perfect- it still doesn't cite any reliable sources, for a start. You also seem to not quite understand image deletions- there is not a single bot that deletes images. Every image deleted is deleted by a human being, and that one was deleted by me. The image was not copyright free-use, as Gwernol explained above, and so it was deleted as it violated speedy deletion criteria I3. Images uploaded to Wikipedia must be free for any use, including commercial use and modification. J Milburn (talk) 20:46, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's really, really not that simple. You are not able to upload images from that website, as they are not free for commercial use, which images on Wikipedia have to be (unless they are used under a claim of fair use, but these images couldn't be). Our image copyright rules are very complicated, and I'm not sure if I'm able to explain them to you. Perhaps you should stick to uploading only the images that you have taken yourself (which are very useful, and very welcome). J Milburn (talk) 20:59, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I have deleted the image Image:Spiny leaf insect by david.JPG. Since you are not the copyright holder to this image you may not release it into the public domain. You must stop uploading copyrighted images to Wikipedia, since doing so violates copyright law and places you and Wikipedia at legal risk. You have been warned to stop this. This is your final warning, if you continue to upload copyrighted material to Wikipedia, you will be blocked from editing. As you clearly do not understand what copyright is, I strongly suggest that the only images you upload are one you have taken with your own camera. Any other images, from whatever source, should not be uploaded. Thanks, Gwernol 21:20, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Testing talk

[edit]

Testing talk message

Hi Bjaco18. I'm afraid the references you have added to Ctenomorphodes Tessulatus are not yet correct. A reference is a where you give the source of the information in a sentence. The source is a published, independent book, newspaper article or (sometimes) website. The source must support the whole sentence. As an example, take the sentence: "Nymphs will hatch if they are in crevices in rock and will not hatch in dry conditions, whilst on sand the eggs will hatch as well". Where did this information come from? When someone reads your article they need to be able to look up the original source of this information and check its true. Let's say you found that information in a book called Weatherbeater's Guide to the Stick Insects of Australia. You would use that book as the reference for that sentence, by adding the following after the sentence:

<ref>{{cite book |title=Weatherbeaters Guide to the Stick Insects of Australia |author=Johnstone, Fred |pages=page 47 |publisher=Macmillian |year=2003 |id=ISBN 456 365 4567 444}}</ref>

Note that I have made up this book, so obviously you could not use that. You need to find books our other appropriate sources for each sentence in your article.

So a reference is not just you repeating what is in the article. Nor is it a definition of a single word. Its the a published book that has all the information in a sentence, that a reader can use to check that the article is correct.

For more information, please read: our policy on Verifiability and our guidelines on citing sources. Thanks, Gwernol 11:04, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This has two advantages- it allows other people to find the project and help out (as I am sure you now want to) and it lets the project know that the page exists (through the categories) so they can find your page and help you with it. Barnstars and sockpuppets

[edit]

I have indefinitely blocked your sockpuppet account: User:Bjaco19. Using a second account to give yourself a barnstar and then claim it was "some random user" is dishonest and strictly against our rules. You may not use more than one account. If you create or use further sockpuppet accounts, I will block you from editing. Please take this seriously. Thanks, Gwernol 01:53, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked for 24 hours

[edit]

I discovered and blocked another of your sockpuppets, Bjaco20, which you were using to nominate yourself for adminship. This is also deceptive, but, because that was done before Gwernol warned you above, I will assume you didn't realise that that was a bad thing. However, creating your third RfA in a month when you are clearly not ready and have been told many times by others is, I feel, very disruptive. You have been warned many times about various sorts of disruption, and your RfAs have been deleted and closed in the past, therefore, I feel, you have earned yourself a short block from editing. I recommend you consider your actions on Wikipedia, and when you come back, focus a little more on writing and improving articles, rather than messing around with deceptive barnstars, spurious RfAs, multiple accounts and uploading copyrighted images, all of which will lead to receiving longer and longer blocks. I seriously recommend you do not try to create new accounts to get around this, as that will lead to further and longer blocks. Be aware that we will find them. You are still able to edit your talk page, and so you are able to reply here, and, if you believe you should be unblocked, should type {{unblock|Your reason here}}, and another admin will come to review the situation. J Milburn (talk) 10:21, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

josh this i'snt you, why, i've only got this morning to work on wikipedia, i said i'm sorry, i need to be able to edit because it is urgent, bjaco20, bjaco19 were just phoenies, how can i help with deleting them, i can't, how about i log on to one of those and apologise there so this will be all over or you can just DELETE those user because they did not mean any thing to me? ps. please reply

Per discussion below

Request handled by: Tiptoety talk 19:36, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

While I agree that the block is in fact justified, I am also willing to unblock seeing as you have apologized, but you must understand that creating sock accounts for the use of nominating yourself for an RfA or to attempt to sway consensus violates policy and if you continue to do so you will be re-blocked. You must also understand that continually re-creating RfA's will (1) make sure you never become a admin, and (2) get you blocked for disruption (as it clearly is). I have personally dealt with you before, and understand you are new to the project and in no way want to turn you away, but you must also understand wikipedia has rules and those rules are meant to be fallowed. I would be happy to unblock if you agree to tread more carefully, never abuse sockpuppets and understand that re-creating failed RfA's within a short amount of time is un-acceptable. Tiptoety talk 19:27, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Stick and leaf insects

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Stick and leaf insects, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process.

The stub type, which was not proposed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, does not meet the standard requirements for a stub type, either through being incorrectly named, ambiguously scoped, or through failure to meet standards relating to the current stub hierarchy or likely size, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Alex hills.JPG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? VegitaU (talk) 17:01, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

June 2008

[edit]

Please do not add copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Image:Alex hills.JPG. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Don't upload copyrighted images under free-use or public-domain tags. VegitaU (talk) 17:03, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bjaco, by all rights, I should block you now. You have been told about uploading other people's work over and over and over and over, yet still you continue to do it. Treat this as your last last warning. Stop uploading pictures by others as your own. J Milburn (talk) 18:57, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am aware that the image is from Google Earth. You cannot claim that you own the copyrights to a screenshot unless you're taking a screenshot of software that you own the copyright to. Wikipedia's copyright rules are difficult, I realise that, but my advice to you is to stick only to uploading photos that you have taken yourself (and not photos of screens, or photos of other people's photos or anything like that). If you have any doubts about what you can and can't upload, I recommend you ask at the media copyright questions page and, if you don't get an answer, contact someone (me, or another user you have been in contact with) directly. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Whereaboutsofmantis12345678910.JPG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Whereaboutsofmantis12345678910.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:14, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

[edit]

Hello Bjaco. I was just about to leave you a note regarding BugBot (talk · contribs), the bot you set up without getting it approved first in accordance with our bot policy. However, I noticed that after numerous warnings, yet another image of yours was deleted as a copyright violation. It is apparent that even after these warnings you don't understand how seriously we take copyright issues, so I've given you a 72-hour block to give you time to read our policies on copyright and non-free content. I suggest you be more careful about your uploads in the future, as the next block may be indefinite. Blueboy96 14:11, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ben, there's a discussion about you going on at one of the administrators' noticeboards, here. I am watching this page, so if you leave any messages here, I will see them and reply to them. Also, again, if you believe that you should be unblocked, you can explain why by typing {{unblock|Your reason here}} and another, uninvolved admin will take a look and see if they agree with you. J Milburn (talk) 16:09, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bjaco, you're really not doing any favours. I recommend you take a few days out, consider what you've done to annoy people, and then come and request an unblock if you believe that you can behave in a way that the community finds acceptable. Repeatedly requesting unblocks will just get your talk page protected, meaning that you will find it very difficult to ever be unblocked. J Milburn (talk) 23:08, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have to agree with J Milburn - if you wish to continue editing Wikipedia, you need to take a break for a few days to sort yourself out. You are probably angry at what has happened, and your attempts to evade your block won't have helped your situation. I'd recommend leaving for a few days, coming back around Friday and requesting the unblock then, making sure to explain how you intend to improve your behaviour here. I'm afraid that Wikipedia doesn't work like that - you can't make a deal to be unblocked in exchange for you not vandalising and using sockpuppetry. I have to now agree with Tiptoety's comments (although it was just under two weeks, not one week), which is a shame but for the best I think. ~~ [Jam][talk] 23:28, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jam dude, i am from Australia so it is like a month since what ever you were going on about. B jacob (talk) 23:40, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Time does not run at a different rate in the southern hemisphere. You being from Australia has nothing to do with anything. The incident Jam is referring to happened less than 2 weeks ago. Gwernol 23:42, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree, this user has already been unblocked (by myself) on the grounds that they would no longer use more than one account in a abusive way or disrupt the project, yet here we are a little over a week later dealing with the same thing. I think a indef block is justified. Tiptoety talk 23:30, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure an indef block is justified. The editor has not disrupted the project. He has made useful contributions as regards stick insects. Yes, he has a poor understanding of policies, esp. regarding images and has made mistakes but he may be a useful contributor if assisted. Just one more chance for Bjaco?! Nk.sheridan   Talk 23:49, 8 June 2008 (UTC)][reply]
I am not sure you realise the number of last chances Bjaco has been given. He has been given at least three 'last' warnings for poor image uploads by me alone. He has repeatedly created poor RfAs despite advice from multiple editors. He has abused multiple accounts on more than one occasion. He has forum-shopped, and attempted to make 'deals' with administrators, apparently under the belief that that is the way Wikipedia works- check his 'friends list'. He seems to be under the impression that repeatedly requesting unblocks and saying he is sorry will get him unblocked. He has threatened to vandalise the project when he is not happy with the way things are going. You may point to his several pages about stick insects, but, though created in good faith, these are generally poor pages- they are badly written, apparently based on original research and formatted atrociously. They have demanded significant cleanup from various editors, and a lot of volunteer time has spent dealing with Bjaco. I've always been trying to set Bjaco on the straight and narrow, and give him 'last chances', but I see now that I "would'nt let" him "get over" his last block, so evidently my advice and help is not welcome here. J Milburn (talk) 00:06, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(ec) Ben, you're being ridiculous. Since we first crossed paths, I have been working on your articles with you, (I don't care about Australian stick insects) I've been answering your every mundane question, (I don't know anything about Weird Al...) I have offered you an awful lot of advice and, most importantly, I've been fighting your corner, trying to stop you being blocked indefinitely, as I know a lot of people would have been far less tolerant than me. You have ignored my advice, (you continued to upload poor images, continued to be reckless, continued posting here tonight, continued to make dud RfAs, continued abusing multiple accounts...) and now, worst of all, you are trying to vilify me, pretending that I have not been here helping you all the way. Well, I'm sorry, but I think I've reached the end of the line. I was willing to try to help you through a lot, and was (until I read that comment) praying that you took my advice so that you had a chance to be unblocked. But now I see that not only were you choosing to ignore my advice, but you see me as some kind of enemy. I'm not here to make enemies. J Milburn (talk) 23:56, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NK Sheridan, I have made it clear that a third chance is available to Bjaco18 (he's already had a second chance and blown it). However, so far his response has been to try to hide his own bad behavior and to abuse other editors. He shows no understanding of what he has done wrong and will not give us assurances that he won't continue to abuse Wikipedia. And I'm afraid that trying to run an unauthorized bot account, creating multiple sockpuppets, repeatedly uploading copyrighted images despite several editors working with him and threatening to go on a vandalism spree are quite definitely actions which disrupt the project. Right now that third chance is rapidly disappearing. Gwernol 00:01, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I want to get over this nonsense with everything, apart from that editors are blaming me for attempt in vandalism spree but all i want to do is to create pages on wikipedia without this hassle....B jacob (talk) 00:10, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Instead of addressing the issues of your block you are making a attempt to blame other editors. Your maturity at this point is questionable, and your ability to interact with other users in a constructive way has proven to be a challenge for you. Like I said before, you got a second chance and you blew it, and personally I am not willing to give you a third chance. Editors have been trying to help you and you return them with violating their trust and all their hard work they have put in to attempting to educate you about Wikipedia and as such I am unwilling to waste more energy on a lost cause. — Tiptoety talk 02:53, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Please i promise i will not break wikipedias laws again, I promise.

Vacation

Bjaco18 is on vacation! B jacob (talk)

Good evening

[edit]

hello

Today,

I messed up, big time! and have thought about it very much, I should'nt have gone of at Gwernol like that and i am very sorry, I know that i was given a first chance but I blew it like the other two chances I was given but I blew them as well, I know now that I could of done better with those pages that were poorly made but since then I have read the guidelines and I am better prepared when it comes to creating pages to Wikipedia's standards. J Milburn I am very sorry about all those things I said, and should'nt of bombarded you with questions, I was really anxious about wikipedia then. In conclusion, my break from wikipedia has been quite instructive as I have really thought through what I said. I missed my involvement with the projects, and to all wikipedians involved in this, that I offended, I am really sorry.I have learn't from my mistakes and want to thank especially J Milburn and to all the rest of the admins involved in this, I will not repeat this behaviour again. I would really like to continue as a contributor on wikipedia. My dad talked to me after reading all the posts and helped me to realise that I had no business making threats and behaveing the way I did. B jacob (talk) 07:22, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

My reason is above.

Decline reason:

One reason that Encyclopedia Britannica doesn't employ 12-year-olds is that very few of them have yet learned the skills to be truly helpful. If you want to help the encyclopedia, the best thing you can do is study hard in your English and computer classes, learning good writing skills, research skills, and, if possible, coding skills. Then come back when you're sixteen or seventeen, bringing all that you've learned, so that you can really help make the encyclopedia better. — FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 21:11, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Encyclopedia britannica?

It's a different major encyclopedia. Wikipedia is only one of several significant encyclopedias. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 22:27, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But i don't use encyclopedia britannica?
That's not the point. The point is, children don't usually know enough to write for major encyclopedias. You don't appear to be ready yet to write for a major encyclopedia. Writing for a major encyclopedia requires mature reading comprehension, good writing style, knowledge of research techniques. You'll learn those things in high school. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 23:05, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
EXCUSE me, I am in high school, and i know technigues to reasearch etc, my writing style is good enough, you think 14 pages is not good reading comprehension? I have learn't so much about wikipedia. Mainly all my pages created have met wikipedias quality standards, and apart from that pages that were quite large are now reduced to match that standard. I am 12 in year 8 and i am learning to the best of my ability, and, my friend is 12 and he is in year 6! although i am turning 13 this year. I was actually skipped year 3, because i was so good with comprehension. so please i don't want to get into any thing ok.

Thanks

Cheers

I was told to come back on friday to get this thing resolved but instead i get these admins that have no part in it. Benjamin Albert Jacob (talk) 19:39, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You used the unblock template to request that your block be reviewed by neutral, uninvolved administrators. We did exactly as you asked. Be nice. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 19:42, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

i'm sorry for goin of at you like that, can you please give me the right template for the admins involved. :) Benjamin Albert Jacob (talk) 20:02, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There isn't one, because they are presumed to already have your talk page on their watchlist. You can, of course, email them, but I beg to to believe that you just don't know everything you need to know to be a helpful editor yet. That doesn't mean you aren't a smart 12 year old. It just means that, at 12, there is still a lot you need to learn before you're ready to write an encyclopedia. I don't try to do heart surgery, because I know I can't do it well without a lot of study. Please, believe me? -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 20:06, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have to agree with FisherQueen's comments. You are just not mature enough (given your actions over the last month or so) to constructively edit Wikipedia. I suggest you take a long Wikibreak, go away for a bit and evaluate your current and future contributions, and then come back and explain exactly how you wish to contribute. Continuing to request unblock right now will only result in your page being locked and possibly other sanctions against your account. ~~ [Jam][talk] 20:10, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(ec)I also agree with FisherQueen, and I am chipping in to let you know that I am watching this page and following the conversation. I feel you will make a good contributor some day, but that day just isn't today. A lot of admins have reviewed this situation, and all of them seem to agree with this stance. J Milburn (talk) 20:21, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please!

[edit]

i only just came back from a wikibreak and now it is sunday, Benjamin Albert Jacob (talk) 20:18, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When we encouraged you to take some time to learn more, we meant four or five years, not four or five days. I don't think you've learned four or five years worth of research and writing skills this week. Won't you please believe that you just aren't ready yet? Writing an encyclopedia is a job that takes certain skills. I assume that you don't expect your family's mechanic to let you try to fix cars in his garage, because you know that you would just break them. I assume that you don't ask to file your parents' taxes, because you know that you would just get them into trouble with the government. Don't expect to write an encyclopedia, when you're not able to make it better. When you are an adult, there will be time to study mechanics, accounting, or research, as you choose. I'm sorry that this is hard for you to accept, but you are going to have to accept it. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 20:34, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

unblock|All i want on wikipedia is to be unblocked so everyone can get on with life and so i can learn more about wikipdia, I think at an early age is a good idea for wikipedia because we youngins have a chance to learn without the hassle of year 12 tests and exams etc. I am Extremely sorry for all i've done on wikipedia and the only thing i like doing on the computer is wikipedia, and, to summerise it all, i would like to say "Wikipedia is my friend".

would any one like you'r best friend pulled away from you for years apart, well its like that i fell sad now i am being slowly pulled away from my friend-WIKIPEDIA. I have an adopter who helps me on wikipedia and if you were put in to that position would you feel bad, well Oo7565 is put into that position now i'm leaving, but, all you need to do is to unblock me, thats all im asking, i'm not asking for you to jump of a cliff or any thing, all i'm asking is to unblock me please.B.A.J. (talk) 23:08, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Bjaco. I'd propose you take some time to read core wikipedia policies and perhaps come back with an unblock request again in 6 months. Annoying the admins with unblock requests over such a short period of time is very unlikely to help your case! Just my personal opinion but perhaps you could start your own website as regards stick insects and thus improve your writing skills? Cheers, Nk.sheridan   Talk 23:19, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Brisbane insects

[edit]

I have nominated Brisbane insects, an article you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Brisbane insects. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. You've been Invited!

[edit]

You have been invited to join WikiProject Insects!! Join today and work with me and other members (project just made 22:44, 19 November 2009 (UTC)) in a collaboration on improving insect orders and creating pages of insect families. Things like insect-related awards, userboxes, topicons, ect. are also coming soon.

I was also interested in joining WP:Phasmatodea and WP:Manotdea into WP:Insects. If we do that, we can all collaborate, as it says the project has become inactive, any thoughts? Well you can give me an answer on my talk page or WikiProject insects' talk page when you're ready!! Bugboy52.4 | =-= 23:24, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Invite to the African Destubathon

[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most geography, wildlife and women articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 55 African countries, so should be enjoyable! Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African wildlife articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance. If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing any article related to a topic you often work on, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Might be a good way to work on fleshing out articles you've long been meaning to target and get rewarded for it! Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:53, 13 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
