Kings Buildings session 19.05.2016

[edit]

Hello again, Billy Rosendale!
Thank you so much for taking part in the training session the other day. I hope that you enjoyed it and that we'll see you on Wiki again soon.

Now that you've learned the basics of editing using Wikipedia’s Visual Editor, I hope that you'll stay logged in and edit or create more articles. I've added some booklets and some links below that you may find useful. Sorry we ran out of time but I'm very happy to discuss anything you care to know about via email or in person.

If you're not feeling bold enough to write an (other) article straight away, why not try a small edit first, or adding a link? Don't worry about being perfect, Wiki is a constantly evolving entity. Fortunately there's a whole team of editors just like you who can help.

Welcome! Now have some cake...

You can't break Wikipedia, but in case you're still nervous here are some pages that you might find helpful, especially the first one which covers the main things to remember about using Visual Editor.

The University of Edinburgh are also looking into running lots more edit-a-thons over the course of the residency – details are still to be confirmed but will be updated on my project page here: Wikipedia:University_of_Edinburgh
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Remember, if you are writing on a talk page, please sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date.

The file I mentioned entitled 'Wikipedia & Academic Research' is located in this Google drive folder here.

If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. See you soon! Stinglehammer (talk) 14:52, 21 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. I have removed external links from the body and created a new section as recommended.
I will seek help in finding verifiable sources for citations added to the article and, if none can be found, remove those claims from the article.
Having added Themis to https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regius_Professor_of_Engineering_(Edinburgh), I thought it would be good to create a academic biography article to link to.
I note the comment regarding possible copyright violation and am led to believe the copy was written for this Wikipedia draft and then copied to the London Imperial profile for Themis. The copy was written by Themis and his colleagues and they are happy for this to be shared with wikipedia (with appropriate edits and verifiable sources added), so I do not believe any copyright violation has occurred.

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Billy Rosendale. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. DoubleGrazing (talk) 12:34, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DoubleGrazing, thanks for your message. I will refrain from making any further edits to this draft. I propose changes and encourage others via wiki projects to improve the draft article so that a supporting biography can exist for the incumbent Regius Chair of Engineering, as does for the preceding professors. Cheers, Billy Billy Rosendale (talk) 16:52, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
