Speaking of Nelson
[edit]Just thought you might like to know that this guy played for them at the start of the 20th century. Thanks for the support on the FLC!
Regards, --WFC-- 10:02, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- Interesting, he was quite the journeyman wasn't he! I wish it were easier to uncover information about the earlier players, but it is especially hard to do so for non-league clubs like Nelson. By the way, both Cornelius Hogan and Gordon Haigh also played for both Watford and Nelson. BigDom 12:37, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
Good article nominations
[edit]Thanks for the heads up regarding adding the GA note to the talk pages, will do that now. As for the whole Stevenage Borough/Stevenage name change, the majority referred to Stevenage Borough as 'Stevenage' anyway, and I wouldn't have written "Stevenage Borough" everytime I mentioned the club even when it was the club's title. I think Stevenage works perfectly, especially for the players who joined Stevenage Borough and are still currently playing for Stevenage. Both John Mousinho and Graham Westley are GA articles and I referred to the club as Stevenage. Thanks for the advice. SBFCEdit (talk) 21:37, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
Re: A good result
[edit]Yeah. It puts the onus on those defending players who have made precisely one appearance to prove that they are generally notable. I don't consider myself to be inclusionist or deletionist, I just think that NSPORTS/ATHLETE should be an essay (indeed, having looked at the discussion I think the decision to ever promote NSPORTS was a poor one). I'll continue to use the GNG and BLP1E to contradict it, until people realise that what we really need is for all footballers to meet the general notability guideline, with ATHLETE there as an essay for guidance. In theory, being a guideline is fine, but in practise Wikipedia guideline = the law.
I know you disagreed with me in at least one of the examples there, but nonetheless you might be interested to have a quick read of this. --WFC-- 11:08, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

I wouldn't be so sure
[edit][1]. The glaring problem with this article from an FAC perspective is the massive gap between Wolstenholme's retirement from professional football in 1926 and his death in 1958, almost half of his life. Did any of the local papers print an obituary that might help to fill in the blanks? Malleus Fatuorum 22:03, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- Well, I did reconsider my comment and agree that it may be a poor example. But the point is that once lower league footballers from the 1920s retired, they returned to everyday jobs like everyone else and were just forgotten. So no, as far as I'm aware, no obituary. I mean, it's not like I was ever thinking of taking the Wolstenholme article to FAC, I frankly can't be arsed with the whole process which has so far proved to be nothing but a complete waste of my time. If 1920–21 Burnley F.C. season didn't pass, nothing I ever write will. BigDom 22:11, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- That could pass easily, with just a little bit about the local reaction to Burnley's victory, which must be available in local newspapers. Malleus Fatuorum 01:20, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
- Indeed. To get explicit support from Tony1 on 1(a) is proof that you are capable of writing FAs. He doesn't hand those out willy-nilly. --WFC-- 01:50, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
Re: Wolstenholme
[edit]Yeah, same player. Blackpool (1902-1904) 91/0; Bolton (1905-1906) 9/0; Burnley (1907-1908) 38/0; and Bradford Park Avenue (1908-1909) 39/1. - Dudesleeper talk 01:43, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

1920–21 Burnley F.C. season
[edit]Sorry to jump in, but I noticed your conversation on YellowMonkey's page and had a quick look at the article and its FA review. If sourcing is the main problem, I had a look on the Times Archive website. A quick search for Burnley in 1920 to 1921 gave 179 sports results. Many of them seem to be summaries of the football results, but Burnley get a good write up, commenting on how well they played and a few of their players. It also gives you some good reaction to the results and a bit of context. I'm sure it's possible to use at least some (although probably not all!) of these. The down-side is that the Times Archive is a subscription site unless you have a library which subscribes to it. Don't know if this helps. Cheers. --Sarastro1 (talk) 07:48, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up. I'm a member of the Lancashire library so I can use the service, but unfortunately what's there doesn't seem to add much on top of what I already have. Cheers, BigDom 18:08, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
I noticed you've you added a notability tag for biographies on this page - I've since expanded the article, and added sources accordingly, and have removed the tag (for the time being). Could you reassess? Thanks. Connormahtalk 17:03, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
- Looks fine now, notability has been reasonably established. Good job expanding the article! BigDom 17:05, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks, It never hurts to get a second opinion :). Connormahtalk 17:42, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Your admin criteria
[edit]Hey,
Out of interest, what made you decide to delete your admin criteria page? Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward: not at work) - talk 01:21, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- A fair question. The thing is, I realised that I just hadn't been using them any more because I started to judge each candidate on their own merits rather than support or oppose because of an arbitrary standard. Some users might have passed the criteria but had the wrong temprament, others may have failed them but specialised in a sorely-needed area e.g. image copyright. Hope that answers your query. BigDom 07:52, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- Yep, it does indeed. Cheers! Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward: not at work) - talk 08:21, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Your RFA
[edit]I know that you are arguing just out of the principle of the matter, but consider just letting the thing with Colonel Warden drop. His oppose strikes me very strongly of a case of "searching for a reason to oppose AFTER making the decision to oppose." While your argument is extremely valid and reasonable, it's unlikely you will sway him. If he didn't have this reason to oppose you, he simply would have fabricated another. Learning to filter out the bellyaching of the fringe minority is one of the first lessons of adminship. Good luck :) Trusilver 14:18, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

- No trouble. When that was written, I was just extremely annoyed at the way some editors were treating Herostratus. It was nothing short of a complete disgrace. Now I can see that I overexaggerated throughout the whole rant; clearly the BLP policies are important to avoid misrepresenting people who could possibly sue (although I still think some people take it far too seriously) and I haven't completely lost faith in the community. Hope this answers your question. Cheers, BigDom 08:15, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Cheers everyone! Trusilver, I don't intend to spend all my time just doing admin stuff, that would get boring pretty quickly. While I do appreciate the importance of BLP, I did like your comment about the hand-wringing BLP crowd! BigDom 21:27, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
- "I did like your comment about the hand-wringing BLP crowd!" Not looking very promising for your career as an admin then, is it. Malleus Fatuorum 22:17, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
- I really don't see how it will make an ounce of difference to my "career" as an admin. If you can call deleting a few expired PRODs and CSDs and closing a couple of FFD discussions a career, that is. Actions speak louder than words, so I'd prefer it if you could judge me on what I do as an admin rather than what I say. It appears that many people want me to fail spectacularly, but that will not be the case! Cheers, BigDom 06:42, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
- Congratulations from me as well, and that includes your willingness to "speak heresy" by daring to suggest sometimes BLP might go too far. Don't get me wrong, BLP is a great idea in general, but we need to treat it with sanity and our regular insistence on willingness to discuss calmly, not a tarring and feathering of anyone who dares to question an action purportedly taken under it. OTRS articles you could help with

Request for help with peer review
[edit]Hello. About a year ago, you provided very helpful feedback in the GA review of 2009 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final which went on to become a featured article and has even been featured on the main page already. Recently I've put a lot of work into tournament final for the following year, 2010 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final, and it recently passed GA review. I've opened up a peer review for it to hopefully prepare it for an FA review in the future. I would be greatful if you wouldn't mind reading through the article once and providing any suggestions or feedback on the prose that occur to you. If you don't have time right now, I totally understand. Thank you anyways and happy hollidays! --SkotyWATC 07:34, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
- My computer isn't working at the moment so I won't be able to look for a week at least probably. Even if the PR has finished by the time I can go through the article, I'll leave some comments on your talk page or somewhere like that. Good luck getting it to FA, BigDom talk 16:34, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

The FAC review will be open for only a few more days I expect. --SkotyWATC 18:10, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- Excellent. Thank you! --SkotyWATC 02:42, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
March 2011 GAN backlog elimination drive a week away
[edit]WikiProject Good Articles will be running a GAN backlog elimination drive for the entire month of March. The goal of this drive is to bring the number of outstanding Good Article nominations down to below 50. This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most. On behalf of my co-coordinator Wizardman, we hope we can see you in March. MuZemike delivered by MuZebot 00:34, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
Really sorry!
[edit]By mistake I reverted your recent closing of the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hines Industries. Really sorry - when the page was loading I clicked the Twinkle button "Revert as Vandalism" by mistake. Sorry again! Jay Σεβαστόςdiscuss 17:29, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
- Don't worry, no harm done! BigDom talk 17:32, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
RLFoot
[edit]Hey.. Following our discussion regarding RLFoot on the Wikiproject football page, I was wondering if you could do me a favor. Can you please find me the stats for Youssef Sofiane with the French youth teams on that page? His article currently doesn't have anything about his international career but I know he's played for France at U17 level (and probably older categories). Thanks. TonyStarks (talk) 08:38, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
Was there an error in this AfD closure?
[edit]Could you please take a look at your closure of the AfD for Pack of Wolvz at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2011 February 27? It looks as if many of the listings below it were accidentally included in the "closed/archived" box. Or am I misreading it? Thanks --MelanieN (talk) 19:47, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- I don't know what you mean? Sorry, it took me a while to reply as I haven't been online in the last few days. BigDom talk 16:11, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
Michael Neff (artist) AFD closure
[edit]It seems like the AFD discussion for the entry for Michael Neff (artist) was very brief. I did not have sufficient time to improve the article. Is this sort of short time span typical for an entry that is not marked for speedy deletion? All of the process surrounding nomination for deletion, discussion and requesting undeletion is very confusing for a novice editor and that certainly slowed me down as well. I'd really like to improve this entry. Can you direct me about what my next steps should be? Thank you. Thecornkid (talk) 18:20, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
WP:NSPORTS in regards to Progaming
[edit]Why hello. In the AfD for Tasteless you said that StarCraft obviously doesn't fall under the category of sports. Therefore not NSPORTS. While it is not a conventional sport, one can easily argue it deserves its own notability guideline. With mounting prize pools (half way down) http://www.esl-world.net/masters/ the formation of multiple teams, and expansion of leagues with well over 25-30 thousand dollars of prize money, and one korean league shelling out over 50 thousand USD monthly in prize money alone, a cult like following of multiple players in korea, one has to wonder if any of these players are any less notable than their 99% of the time benched counterparts in baseball or the like. Although in the case of tasteless the discussion did not come down to the interpretation of nsports (just RS) I would like to at least voice my opinion that it's not fair to say that NSports has nothing to do with esports. Very few know of ping pong players who compete at their world championships, yet these people are considered inherently. (I know it's an otherstuffexists argument.) Yet those who played in the World Cyber Games (highest level of competition of an esport), proving themselves as the best in the nation, or in some cases third or fourth best in the world with extensive coverage by korean media sources are not included. Although a poor article at this time StarCraft: Brood War professional competition at least gives a sort of scope as to how large the field is. Although at this time I don't think NSPORTS can be applied to eSports, I would not disregard them as being entirely separate. NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 02:06, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
- I never realised how popular it was, but still stand by my point that NSPORTS is not an applicable guideline so should not be used as a rationale in "keep" arguments. I wouldn't be against a separate guideline for gamers, but NSPORTS is definitely nothing to do with e-sports IMO. BigDom 19:07, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
- I agree with your reply. I just wanted to make the argument that they are similar things. Still, I have little to no idea on how to start discussion on this. RFC or ? NativeForeigner Talk/Contribs 22:31, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
- I think probably the best place to start would be WikiProject Video Games. I had a quick look on there and couldn't see anything about notability. Maybe start a thread there and if there's sufficient interest, then start an official RfC. BigDom 19:28, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Howard Webb GA
[edit]Thanks for your review of Howard Webb. I will try to improve the article based on your recommendations. --TBM10 (talk) 12:37, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- You're welcome. It would be great if you could improve the article and get it to GA, because I think it would be the first good article written about a referee. If you want me to have a look at it again in the future just leave me a message here. Good luck, BigDom 12:50, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
Interested?
[edit]I saw your FL on the results for the Montserrat national team results. I thought you might also be interested In getting Bhutan national football team results to FL also? Coverage of Bhutanese soccer on wikipedia is very bad and maybe you can help improve it alittle. It's ok if your not interested. Spongie555 (talk) 06:45, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
- I will try to cleanup the tables if I can. The bad thing a out Bhutan is that there is few sources for it since it isn't that much of a well known country and they are barely opening up to the world. Spongie555 (talk) 05:10, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
DYK for Albert Nutter
[edit]On 22 March 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Albert Nutter, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Albert Nutter took 600 wickets in first-class cricket? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Task force
[edit]Pursuing the task force idea ... would you be interested in participating, and if so, would it be possible for you to round up some people who share your views and keep in touch with them as the task force makes recommendations? - Dank (push to talk) 21:53, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
Just wondering as you said you will be happy to help me, I have put the article up for peer review here and if you have time will you post some comments on there to try and help me achieve GA with this one aswell, thanks, –LiamTaylor– 22:46, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Bill Shipman
[edit]On 27 March 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Bill Shipman, which you created or substantially expanded. - This was a double DYK, but maybe admin didn't notice? There is no DYK notification on the discussion page of Edward Alexander Wyon.--Storye book (talk) 11:10, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
- You're welcome. Thanks for pointing that out, I've added the {{dyktalk}} template to the EA Wyon talk page now. Cheers, BigDom 13:41, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for posting the Linni Meister article on DYK. I have a question, if as now this was posted at 16.00 today, when tonight will it be removed from the DYK section? Cheers.--BabbaQ (talk) 16:12, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Museo Soumaya
[edit]I've added to the article and I think it is now a 5x expansion. I just installed the page size script too, since I keep coming just shy of 5x expansions. Qrsdogg (talk) 03:53, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
- It looks good now, but Marrante got there before me! Cheers, BigDom 07:42, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
The article William McMillan (footballer) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- A search for reliable, secondary sources reveals an insufficient amount of significant coverage. This article fails Wikipedia's notability guidelines for association football players.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Neelix (talk) 16:19, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
