Nom
[edit]Hi Mr Bibliomaniac15. I'm honoured that you think I'm ready to begin the process, and I therefore accept. However, I would ask that you defer the actual transclusion/beginning of the vote until next Saturday (August 23), as I'm working on another project at the moment and would not be able to dedicate the time that I should to worrying and fretting about the whole thing!
Out of interest, was there any particular trigger for doing this now?
Also, I recently got my editor review done, do you have any comment or advice based on it?
Thanks again, Lankiveil (speak to me) 09:53, 17 August 2008 (UTC).
- Mr Bibloimaniac15 (;-)), mind if I conom? —Giggy 12:39, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
- About the title, I initially started it with simply "Biblio", but then I remembered that I hate people shortening my screen name to "Lanki" or "Lank", and I wasn't sure if you were okay with me doing that, so I decided to comically overcompensate =). If its a problem, I'll retract it! Lankiveil (speak to me) 10:42, 18 August 2008 (UTC).
- Sure thing, Lanki and Biblio.... I'll get on to a conom once the initial nom is up. —Giggy 12:30, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the help! I still think that only the person who started it is the only one that uses the term Papua monitor...but I could use the assistance...refs are surprisingly lacking on this species. I'll try and get a close-up pic of an actual one in the next week or so!--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 02:00, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- Crocodile is the most common name I've heard the past 20+ years. I've honestly never heard Papuan before. Artelia is the local name and what Bayless referes to them as. Tree crocodile is another I've heard. I definitely prefer Latin names for articles, myself. Don't know if you're a Varanus albigularis fan, but I started that one, too.--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 03:06, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Re your block
[edit]Hi. Just a heads-up that User:Richard Rolles whom you recently indef blocked has announced that he intends to violate the block, please see this post. Fellow Anons are attempting to rein him in but you may want to consider extending the IP block. Based on his previous posts I doubt he knows if he has a static IP or what one is but there is probably little harm in extending the IP block for 48 hours or more. Thanks. --Justallofthem (talk) 16:14, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Admin coaching request
[edit]Hi, I don't know if you remember me, but I asked for admin coaching a while ago. You told me to wait until my editor review was finished, so I archived it (it has been thirty days and has had at least one review) and was wondering if you would be able to coach me now. Thanks! Voyaging(talk) 20:29, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I nominated Portal:The Three Worlds Cycle for deletion, and I see you closed it as delete. However, I also included a subpage of that portal Portal:The Three Worlds Cycle/Selected article for deletion as well. Could you also delete that page as well? It doesn't make much sense for it exist anymore. Thanks, --Phirazo (talk) 01:43, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
Thank you.
[edit]I want to thank you for protecting my project page. However, I also want to bring to your attention the fact that the IPs responsible for the vandalism are socks of a permanently blocked user, see here for details. Cheers! ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 16:54, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. I agree with the course of action you are suggesting. Somewhere, though I would have to look for it now, he promised to unleash an army of IPs if his demands were not met. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 20:21, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- I haven't any doubt of that! Cheers! ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 22:14, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
Re: FAC
[edit]Well, I think that if I nominate another video game article in a row, Sandy's head will implode and the reviewers will mutiny (after Myst III' FAC I seriously considered keeping up my streak and nominating Myst IV and Myst V in sequence right after it, but I decided against it :P) Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 02:30, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I've been trying to be less of a pain by reviewing more FACs and making sure video game FACs in particular are competently reviewed... we seemed to have gotten a bit of a bad reputation in the recent past for lax reviews. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 02:48, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
if you get a minute and a cool link
[edit]I did some major reworking on Varanus indicus, emerald tree monitor, and started some on black tree monitor. I'd appreciate it if you could take a look at these when you get a minute. Also thought you might want to check this out[1]--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 17:13, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I just started black tree and realized I need to find better source material. I did a rewrite of V. brevicauda last week, whoever wrote it must have been sniffing glue or eating paint chips because it was 180 degrees south of what it should have been. Working on these is going to have me looking for a pair of monitors at the next reptile expo for sure!--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 02:26, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- Very cool, thanks (just read all you did to help out!) I'm trying to run down pics for V. indicus. The ones I have are 20 years old out of focus or blurry or not much of a picture to begin with (taken by me holding a 3-4 foot lizard in one hand and a cheap or disposable camera in the other!). I'll try the commons on Flickr! and if no luck there I'll take some at the expo in 2 weeks. Let me know what else you think it might need before we send it to GAN. Thanks again, I'll tighten up V. prasinus this week. Black tree might be a bit longer, still can't find any decent refs. This link has me considering setting up a trio of Prasinus within a year:[2].--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 02:27, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
A special thanks
[edit]Biblio,
I'm not going to thankspam, but I would like to just send you a special thank-you for your help and support over the whole RfA preparation and process. It truly means a lot to me that you took the time out to help me out and make sure I was on the right path. I know that actually gaining the bit is only the first part of the process, now I have to actually use it wisely (and getting used to all the extra tabs on every page may take a while!), but I'm confident with the expert guidance you've given me that I'll manage to do you and the community proud.
Again, thankyou! Lankiveil (speak to me) 11:56, 31 August 2008 (UTC).

[edit]Hey Buddy! Look at you. I go away for the Summer for a wikibreak and come back and you are now moving towards being a bureaucrat? I cannot keep up with you! I can't even make it to admin and you are all over the place! I am so happy for you and I know you will do a fine job should you receive your RfA. I don't think you will have much of a problem. Canyouhearmenow 12:27, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- Lawd, now look at what you have done to me.. I am over there going to bat with someone over the need for another bureaucrat. Does this qualify as one of those debates and discussions you said I should involve myself in? LOL That is soo funny. Who would have thought my debate would be over my teacher! Don;t worry, I support ya! Canyouhearmenow 21:29, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
- Whoa!!! I was not chiming in on that to keep batting with him! I really am voicing an opinion that feel passionate about. I am done with my point and have no intentions on debating the issue anymore at this point. I was kidding in my abovementioned remarks. Please don't take it any other way. I was not doing it so I could get into a debate! I chimmed in because of my beliefs. I am sorry, I just do not agree with the arguement and that is why I voiced in. [edit]For your comment on my essay. Appreciate that. Honestly ... I feel bad about self-promotion, since I routinely zap vanity pages and don't want to be a hypocrite ... you know, some people put links to their essays in their sigs and things. Sometimes people stumble on the essay and comment; once in a while it attracts a flame (always illuminating, more on the source than the target!); a couple people have translated it into other languages. And it's great fun to keep adding to it. :) Cheers, Antandrus (talk) 04:05, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit]That would be great! I was going to ask you to give it a "once over", myself. Check the history, I'm pretty proud how I did that considering what was there...kind of like the Varanus indicus article I fixed, but I have access to better sources for these guys because I'm a member of IRCF and have years worth of source material, I may have some pics coming but not until the end of the month. Iguana work? Wiki-wise, I'm trying to get all the Ctenosaura pieces done properly and work on a few of the better Cyclura articles to get them past B or C grade. In real life my Ctenosaura similis thinks he's a dog; my Breeding pair of Cyclura nubila hate each other and the female will probably be successful killing the male the next time I put them together even though he's twice her size!--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 16:05, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Heh, I just happened to come upon the Farandole recording and your comment while your RfB was up, and so I decided to comment on that; Jansons is one of my favourite as well. That article, by the way, is quite a mess; I would try to clean it up if it wasn't for the fact that I wouldn't go near any BLP with a ten-foot-long pole. (Oh, and those other two accounts you mentioned should be easy to find if they're part of your SUL account too!) Nousernamesleft (talk) 16:19, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
I was browsing Comparison_of_web_browsers and discovered that you have deleted Template:Latest stable software release/Google Chrome. So i politely ask why? Is it because there is no stable release or did it brake some law of wikipedia i dint know? I ask because i dont like seeing broken links. Is it ok if i recreate the article like this:
{{LPR|
article = Google Chrome
|latest_release_version = none
|latest_release_date = n/a
}}<noinclude>
[[Category:Latest stable software release templates|Google Chrome]]
➔ Back to article "'''[[Google Chrome]]'''"

WikiProject Novels is currently holding a roll call, which we hope to have annually. Your username is listed on the members list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active within the project. If you still consider yourself an active WP:Novels editor, please add your name back to the Active Members list. Also feel free to join any of our task forces and take a look at the project's Job Centre to get involved!
Next month we will begin the coordinator election selection process. We hope to have more involvement and input this time around! More news will be forthcoming. Thanks, everyone! María (habla conmigo) 18:24, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Your opinions on yourself are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at User:GlassCobra/Editor for deletion#Bibliomaniac15 and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit during the discussion but should not remove the nomination (unless you wish not to participate); such removal will not end the deletion discussion (actually it will). [edit]Thank you for assisting at Văn Lang; we have a number of new editors discovering Wikipedia, many of whom appear to be youthful Vietnamese nationalists, and who feel impunity in removing any and all China-related text from WP articles dealing with Vietnam's history (including the Hán tự spellings formerly used, for over a thousand years, by Vietnamese literati and nobility). It's quite difficult to deal with because they're very strong-minded in this, some of them going so far as to say that China is "ugly" and "dirty" and that anything related to China should be removed from Vietnam-related articles. In any case, thanks for looking in. Badagnani (talk) 03:28, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
Sorry about that. I think this editor may have a username and be a sockpuppet; is there a way to find that out? I believe Blnguyen has this ability and I had asked him to assist with this anon, but you beat him to it. I do think we'll see problems with related IPs if they're not all blocked. CHU from spamblocked user question
[edit]Hi Biblio. I need 'crat help here. Some time ago I blocked User talk:Cwmaniawebmaster for spamming and username issues. He sent me an email today as follows: "unblock|This account does not represent a group or company. My personal website adds widely researched information to the topic at hand: Canada's Wonderland. Please change my username to DantheManCW in order to clarify this in the future. Thank you". Besides the issue that he seems he's going to be a WP:SPA, I don't have experience with WP:CHU requests. The question is, should I make the request on his behalf, or unblock the user and instruct him to make the request, or is there a different/better way to handle this? Thanks! -- Alexf42 11:33, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hey Biblio, how's it going? I noticed on "Imperial Structured Settlements → Jpendergrastirish33" CHU, you were leaving it as the account was unified. I used to do this too, but a brief discussion led me to decide that accounts with few or no contributions could be changed without waiting for this confirmation. Just thought I'd let you know. Version 0.7 reviewing
[edit]Hi, I see that you signed up for the 1.0 review team. We need your help right now, because we had around 70 nominations last week! As you probably know, Version 0.7 is coming out soon, mainly based on the bot selection. This relieves us of the burden of manually assessing 30,000 articles, but we need the manual system to catch the articles that might "fall through the cracks" - such as a couple of missing provinces needed to complete a set. If you're no longer interested in reviewing, please can you remove your name from the list of reviewers?
You should consult the criteria and the FAQs, but I would suggest that most manual nominations of B-Class articles or higher are expected to pass, unless they are fairly obscure. You can get a good sense of the importance by looking at the article in the bot's list (check the talk page to find which projects have tagged it); an importance score (excluding quality) of <700 indicates that the article is probably too obscure, unless it is needed to complete a useful set (e.g., all the counties of England). I take the view that if someone who is knowledgeable on the topic spends the time to nominate the article, it is likely to be OK, but just occasionally people try to argue for an obscure or poor-quality article.
So, are you able to help? Many thanks, Walkerma (talk) 05:17, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Hey, If you get a chance, can you give it a quick look? I borrowed some of the basics from Gila Monster(evolution and taxonomy) and was thinking of running it up for GA soon...maybe FAC when I polish it some more. Also, in researching this one, I may have found some stuff to really help Gila! Thanks!--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 16:34, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey bud, I need your help here. I have an IP user at 74.171.57.199 who has gone onto the David L Cook page and has written some very daragitory remarks and edits to his page. Can you tell me where this IP address traces back to and can we get this removed from the edit history so that others cannot see these statements. They are not nice at all! I have also sent a request to Oversight but have heard nothing from them. Thanks Canyouhearmenow 21:26, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Cyclops
[edit]Hi there. I wrote about you a year ago and I thought it was time to let you know about it. I'm not posting this to have a dig at you or anything, I just thought it would be a good cautionary tale. this is the post in question. Basically someone posted some original research, it was patent nonsense really, it looks most likely the the reader made an observation about something based on a jpeg he saw and decided to add it in (using the jpeg as the "reference"). The part involving you is that immediately after he made that edit you made an edit fixing his reference code so it appeared or worked properly. Now the point is that you, an administrator, took the time to correct the coding in the reference, but you didn't actually check the reference or the claim (because if you did you would have deleted it). The claim and your correction remained there for 5 months, which is 5 months of people reading it, using it for research or even bringing it up in conversation as a fact. People do believe what they read and they would have believed this original research, believing it to be a either a fact or a genuine and established scientific theory. So again I am posting to you not to tell you off, but just to say that we all need to keep a better eye out for things like this. Wikipedia doesn't need to be unreliable, and every edit can make a difference. I find it worrying that edits we make, edits like that one, could possibly be read and relayed to over people as factoids or be used in school by students, and once people hear factoids like this it sticks with them for a long time, maybe even the rest of their lives. Thank you for taking the time to read this post, I understand that being an Admin for wikipedia is hard work, so thanks again. JayKeaton (talk) 14:24, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- The edit in question didn't suggest that mammoth skulls were the origin of Cyclops, but that a vase depicting a spear being thrown into someones head was the origins, based on the idea that the spear takes out peoples eyes and leaves just one. But the reference was literally a jpeg of just that vase. It's ok, everyone makes mistakes. JayKeaton (talk) 06:31, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

I need your help
[edit]Hey bud. I received an email at my offices fromt he management company for David L Cook. It seems that they are going through a civil lawsuit with some individuals out of South Carolina. These individuals are finding every public form on the internet where they can post things without being caught. The things are being reversed, but it is proving to be a full time job for them to stay ontop of seeing his popularity and the amount of websites that hvae public accesses. They have asked us if we can put a protection on the page from people who edit with IP addresses. I told them I would take it to you and see if this is something you could help us with? They have since our last problem here gone onto his personal web page and written some very defaming things. They did not know that his guestbook required approval for posting so it never made it to public view. They are afraid it will happen again on wikipedia. Is this something you can help with? Canyouhearmenow 19:32, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

- Thanks pal! I'll get on it. Been kind of "edit-warring"(but keeping it civil) with a guy on that page. I think he may have written the refs he keeps inserting, it's good source material but comes across to me like using a wiki as a source if you know what I mean, (a good thesis published on Forums only, no peer review..not found in Copeia). He refuses to engage in dialouge, in trying to keep the peace I'm letting it in, but think I might need a second opinion on the guy. He's the only other editor on that page.--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 23:37, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Possible Admin Coaching
[edit]Dear Bibliomaniac,
I was thinking of requesting adminship in the near future, as many of my recent edits have been in areas where I could help more easily if I was an administrator. However, I recognize that I am probably too inexperienced with Wikipedia and possibly too ignorant of some policies. I saw here that you were currently taking a break from Admin Coaching, but I was wondering if you by any chance had finished your break and would be willing to coach me.
