Welcome!

Hello, Bhadani/Archive1, Welcome to Wikipedia!
I hope you like working here and want to continue. If you need help on how to name new articles, look at Naming Conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the Manual of Style. If you need general help, look at Help and the FAQ, and if you can't find your answer there, check the Village pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions). There's still more help at the Tutorial and the Policy Library. Also, don't forget to visit the Community Portal — and if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my New-Users' Talk Page.
Additional tips:
Here are some extra tips to help you get around Wikipedia:
  • If you made any edits before you got an account, you might be interested in assigning those to your username.
  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills, try the Sandbox.
  • Click on the Edit button on a page, and look at how other editors did what they did.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Always sign comments on Talk pages, never sign Articles.
  • You might want to add yourself to the New User Log
  • If your first language isn't English, try Wikipedia:Contributing to articles outside your native language
Happy editing!

You can rollback your mistakes by looking at the history tab on the top of your page. Just see the history and click on the date+time. Click on Edit; ignore the warning and save the page. Our best state page is Sikkim, which is a Featured Article (one of wikipedia's best). It would be a good idea if you can emulate Sikkim. You may also take a look at Goa, which I've almost finished. Nichalp 20:33, Mar 29, 2005 (UTC)

Image tags

[edit]

If the images are created by you then there is no problem. If it is from a site, then you would need to get explicit permission from the site to upload the images. Each image on wikipedia needs to be tagged so that we know the details on how the image is licenced.

Briefly licences are as follows:

  1. Public Domain: Publisher has given up all rights to the image and anyone can use it for commercial or non-commercial use.
  2. GFDL: Wikipedia is licenced under GFDL. Briefly this means that the image may be modified by anyone who wishes to, but would have to credit you as the original developer. Commercial use if any, can only be undertaken if you are contacted.
  3. Creative Commons: Similar to Public Domain, but the original author would need to be credited.
  4. Copyrighted: not recommended for wikipedia.
  5. (There are a few more; such as for flags, logos etc)
To tag an image use the following tags: {{PD}}, {{PD-self}} (if the image is yours), {{CC}} (there are more versions and subgroups here) on the image page. A preferred way of adding the tags is by directly adding the tag in the summary box while uploading. See image:sikkimdistricts.png

If the image is made by you, It would be better if the image was saved as a PNG image file instead of JPEG. If the image is licenced under the first three points, consider uploading it to Wikipedia Commons so that the image can be shared by other wikipedia languages. Nichalp 18:23, Mar 30, 2005 (UTC)

[edit]

Take a look at this page: Wikipedia:What wikipedia is not. Please not e this is an encyclopedia, and any personaly views and poetic language not suitable to wikipedia is liable to be deleted. Please do not add such pages in the future. I encourage you to improve the three states as best as you can.  =Nichalp (talkcontribs)= 18:10, Apr 2, 2005 (UTC)

Johar Jharkhand

[edit]

Howdy. Regarding the Johar Jharkhand article: my reference to "Nigerian email scam" in my vote for deletion was only meant to draw a comparison between writing styles. I've been getting a lot of that kind of spam lately, and the article only reminded me of it. No offense meant.

Also: I suppose you've already realized your mistake, since you reposted your message to me on my talk page, but user communication ought to go on user talk pages, not user pages themselves. If you make this mistake again in the future (I do all the time when leaving a message for a user that does not yet have a user page) I don't think anyone would mind if you just remove the message.

Welcome to Wikipedia. Have fun! androidtalk 22:00, Apr 2, 2005 (UTC)

Goa -- references

[edit]

Could you provide references to the matter you listed on the Goa vote? It would be nice to include the matter, but you would have to reference the matter. Please list the book or the link as is already done. (We're running out of time...) =Nichalp (talkcontribs)= 19:04, Apr 8, 2005 (UTC)

One more thing. Would you comment on my map: image:IndiaMaharashtratest.png? Some Bangladesh islands are incorrectly coloured and Sri Lanka is missing, I know. I'm looking to replace all the states and UTs with the map.  =Nichalp (talkcontribs)= 19:19, Apr 8, 2005 (UTC)

Hi Mr. Bhadani,

Thanks for your editing of Awasthi Page. Just wanted to check if you have written Asthana Brahmins by error at some places (cause I have never heard of any.)

Regards, and thanks once again. Bobby Awasthi

I'm very pleased to hear that you are arranging for new images of the temple! That will be very nice. Right now, we only have one picture, and it's not very good. However, there is no need to have a space for images before the images are ready -- you can always add it later! Also, it is better not to add more than a few images to an article. If you have a lot of pictures to add, please use Wikimedia Commons! You can add pictures straight to http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Mahabodhi_Temple. This will be much more convenient for other editors. - Nat Krause 14:14, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Bihar

[edit]

I'm a little confused, I'm afraid. the issue seems to be simply whether the article on Bihar should be called 'Bihar' or Bihar (India). Could you explain why you think that the latter is inaccurate or unacceptable? Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 10:34, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

The normal Wikipedia approach would be that the main article space should go to the best-know usage, which is surely the Indian Bihar, I agree. Actually, I disagree with the policy, because what counts as the most common isn't always clear, and because it could be argued that people are more likely to be looking for the more obscure uses than the well-known ones — but that's beside the point. I'll speak to people about this. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 11:35, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Looks like User:Hottentot is new. He did some cut-and-paste jobs at Bihar and Bihar, India, and even blanked Bihar (disambiguation). This looks to have been out of ignorance over the right way to do page moves, and lack of experience with Wikipedia--which is to be expected. I reversed these and protected the redirect currently at Bihar, India. From his latest response on Talk:Bihar I see is acknowledging his error and so everything is hunky dory. :) --Tony Sidaway|Talk 13:43, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Mahabodhi Temple

[edit]

Thanks; that's fine. My edits there were part of a general editing to separate out Sacred Fig (the species) from Bodhi tree (an individual specimen of the species). Do you know what language(s) the names Bo and Peepul derive from? Are they both Hindi, or other languages? I think it would be good to add this information at Sacred Fig. - MPF 18:17, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Just noticed, from the above, you're planning on getting some photos of the temple - a photo of the Bodhi tree would be brilliant too, at the moment the only photo is a clone of it in Hawaii, which isn't right! - MPF 18:21, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Great work deserves a reward

[edit]

Bhadani, I've been a bit busy and I really should find time now to welcome you.

Nothing on Wikipedia makes me more proud than to see a new editor find our great encyclopedia and in next to no time make himself seem indispensible to the loose community that is engaged on producing it.

Our first encounter was not auspicious--I summarily deleted what was perhaps your first created article because, as I felt at the time "It seems to have been written in some kind of pidjin--English words, foreign grammar", but when RickK nominated the same article, rewritten, for deletion, you handled that beautifully and I was convinced from the first that here was a person of exceptional courtesy and goodwill. In looking back at that article I see that the grammar is close to English but the writing style is perhaps a little more poetic than we anglo-saxons are used to.

Johar !!! I belong to Ranchi, the capital of Ranchi. Johar is synonymous with Namaskar in Hindi and Vanakkam in Tamil and is widely used by the Jharkhandis. Jharkhand should rightly be described as the Jewel in the crown of Republic of India as Jharkhand has unparalleled mineral wealth and forestry products together with excellent human resources waiting in the wings to take off in the current millennium.

Since then in a few short weeks I have watched you improve articles, start new ones, save potentially good articles from deletion by improving them, welcome new users, reassuring people who may not know where to look for help, and generally exude competence and courtesy, becoming at once an ambassador to others who are new to Wikipedia and a great example to newcomers and existing editors (myself included). You make Wikipedia a better place. Thank you. I humbly award you a butterfly as an exceptional newcomer. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 21:26, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

My adminship: thanks!

re: Ancient Indian Science and Technology

[edit]

Hi, I've come back from a trip back home only today. I read the said article and I really liked it. Some suggestions: The tone can be made more encyclopedic by bringing down the number of adjectives that appear to eulogise as opposed to merely stating the facts. Please remember that the article is an account on the title and not a means to demonstrate how great India was. Good work. -- Sundar (talkcontribs) 05:32, Apr 25, 2005 (UTC)

I'll definitely help copyediting. I forgot to mention earlier that I noticed the award given by Tony Sidaway. Congrats. Continue the good work. We need valuable edits from "older" wikipedians like you :-) -- Sundar (talkcontribs) 06:20, Apr 25, 2005 (UTC)

Hi there...

[edit]

When I received your messages I was rather surprised actually. I’ve been using the Wiki sites for the past two years now and had never even noticed the “member” feature. So thanks for initiating that realization! And your welcome for the editing job, I get bored often at night (well, early morning now) and occasionally tidy up articles I happen to stumble upon. Glad to meet you!

African cuisine (among others) - thank you for your hard work!

[edit]
Barnstar, awarded 27th April, 2005, by SteveW for work on African cuisine and tireless contributions.

Thank you for your fantastic work on the African cuisine article. I've removed the stub tags I added a week ago, meaning to research this and add to it (my research and expand plan now seems to apply to every article on wikipedia...). You have created a wonderful article and your work as ever is of the highest quality, while the sheer quantity of your contributions in your first month on Wikipedia puts us all to shame! I humbly award you this barnstar as a token of my appreciation and my thanks: keep up the excellent work! SteveW | Talk 23:38, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I'm glad you see it that way. That's how I feel about Wikipedia as well, but I do feel that we should take the time to congratulate others on a job well done and thank them for their hard work (especially on jobs that the rest of us have put on our "Too hard - maybe later" lists!). So thank you again and I look forward to reading more of your contributions. SteveW | Talk 01:36, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Re: Fast (Patna)

[edit]

I'm always happy to help keep this place tidy. :) To be honest I've been slower than usual lately, due to certain responsibilities in my offline life. However, I was able to fix the Patna article quickly because of two factors: I was already monitoring the offending user's edits because he/she had already vandalised other articles; and I'm an administrator, which lets me quickly revert or rollback the edits of a user by clicking a link on the diff page. It's handy when I'm going through a large block of edits, trying to sort the good from the bad. Cheers, -- Hadal 18:33, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

This article gives almost required information on every topic dealt with. I wonder whether under Medicine & Surgery the ancient Oil Therapy as practised in Kerala now can be added. A few words on gharelu nuska for minor ailments as used in the villages of Bihar for generations may be of some interest. (Run a spell check, of course…)

No problem. I had little hand in the decision; consensus seemed to be to keep the rewrite or at least to give it a chance in its new version and admins should know to give consideration to an article that has been rewritten. It looks much better now, by the way; nice work! Mindspillage (spill yours?) 18:00, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I know you quit looking at the article because of the nature of personal attacks, but I seriously need your help. We can just work on this on your talk page or mine. Nehru talk troll

[edit]

Hi Bhadani, I took the liberty of removing the long and anonymous personal attack from the Nehru talk page. WP guidelines suggest removal of personal attacks, and that stuff had no place, even on a talk page, it was just trolling. You got drawn into responding to that in some detail--I understand, it's easy to take it personally when you are insulted. However, I would recommend that you remove your responses as well, now that I removed the attacks. You were right, of course, but the response to the troll is a digression from discussing the Nehru page itself... I will not, of course, remove your good faith signed comments myself, that's for their author (you) to decide. All the best, Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters 23:45, 2005 May 28 (UTC)

Thanks for wikifying many of Bangladesh related articles, however in some cases, the level of wikificaiton is a little to detailed.
