Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Benrudd7478, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Always remember to provide a reliable source for quotations and for any material that is likely to be challenged, or it may be removed. Wikipedia also has a related policy against including original research in articles. Additionally, all new biographies of living people must contain at least one reliable source.

Nantucket – Cape Cod

[edit]

Hi Benrudd, I note that you assert that Nantucket is 30 mi. from Cape Cod in some of your edits. As you are new to Wikipedia, you may be unfamiliar with the requirement to cite WP:Reliable sources, i.e. some published source that substantiates what's written in WP. A simple measurement in Google Earth demonstrates that the distance from points along the shore from Harwich to Hyannis are about 18 miles to the National Wildlife Refuge on the norther tip of the island. Let's find a cited distance, e.g. the ferry route from Hyannis to Nantucket Town, and use that. Cheers, User:HopsonRoad 21:15, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article Dylan Fernandes has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. ɯɐɔ 💬 16:41, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Local elections in Nantucket

[edit]

Hi Benrudd, I notice that you made some unreferenced good-faith additions of local election results at Nantucket. I just wanted to give you the courtesy of a fuller explanation why I reverted those additions. The primary reason is that local elections for selectboard, etc. typically don't qualify under Wikipedia:Notability (events). As a selectboard member in my community, my election does not rise to the level of being notable to a reader of Wikipedia. Look also at some major jurisdictions, like Boston. There the type of government is noted and the mayor's name is mentioned, but elections to the city council are not included in the article. Remember also that a Mayor is typically a much more powerful figure than a selectboard chair. The former manages the municipality; the latter runs the meetings of the public body and may represent its actions to the public. If you feel that this perspective is incorrect, let's discuss it at Talk:Nantucket, where other editors can offer their perspectives. Cheers, User:HopsonRoad 12:25, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Benrudd 7478. You and I have had a couple of edit conflicts now, and in the last one you reverted my text edits and my removal of now-inapplicable tags on this article, so please let me know when you're finished editing the article so we won't continue to conflict. Among other tasks, the title of the article needs to be changed to John Barrett (Massachusetts politician) per WP:NCCAPS, the text of the article could be expanded, and the format would benefit from some tweaks. Thanks, --Arxiloxos (talk) 16:43, 8 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
