Thanks for your participation in my recent RfA. I will do my very best not to betray the confidence you have shown me. Barney Frank and JzG

First, I am SO glad you got rid of the JzG template. It will make you look much better.

Second, I know you have been involved in the Barney Frank articles, so I thought you maybe interested in this:

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/08/18/frank.heath.care/index.html
While Frank attempted to respond to all questions, he gave up when one woman compared health care proposals favored by Frank and President Obama to policies of Nazi Germany.
"When you ask me that question, I'm going to revert to my ethnic heritage and ask you a question: On what planet do you spend most of your time?" Frank asked.
"You stand there with a picture of the president defaced to look like Hitler and compare the effort to increase health care to the Nazis," he said, adding such behavior demonstrated the strength of First Amendment guarantees of what he called "contemptible" free speech.
"Trying to have a conversation with you would be like trying to argue with a dining room table," Frank said to the woman. "I have no interest in doing it."

I am sure you have already heard about it, but just in case you haven't...Ikip (talk) 17:14, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Lol! Frank is quite brilliant but thank you as I hadn't heard of this. And just FYI, the banner was removed because the bad topic ban was lifted. -- Banjeboi 00:55, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I got confused. (Placeholder Pictures)

I can revert my removal of the placeholder pictures myself if you'd like, if you'd like. (The notice on the file's page is a tad confusing, sorry I removed them, I stopped when I realized but got busy before I fixed them and forgot. (Although I'm not fond of them.)----occono (talk) 01:26, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

No problem, please rollback the others. If the person was alive when photography was widely available then an image is quite likely to exist.
I've also put in a request to add Use of these placeholders in neither encouraged nor deprecated. Although many editors object to their appearance they work for the intended purpose. to help ease the confusion. If we're lucky someone will design something that is much better but some folks seem to hate any option. -- Banjeboi 01:48, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Justin Fashanu

I have emailed two local UK newspapers who have images of Fashanu in their web archives to ask if they'll release them to us. As they're of little commercial value now, hopefully they may well agree. Black Kite 02:37, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Not sure they're of little value but appreciate the effort. If they are up on it some action shots of him playing would be lovely. -- Banjeboi 02:40, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
Yes, at least one is an action shot. I found I needed to be careful though, especially with the non-sporting press who have a habit of printing articles about him illustrated with his brother John! Black Kite 02:49, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
Oy vey! Good luck and thank you for doing that! -- Banjeboi 02:42, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi there, you have been one of a number of regular editors at the above article. I was its Good Article reviewer a few months back. In response to a recent proposal to split the article, I suggested it be edited down to a more manageable size and better readability rather than focussing on the split. I suggested the article was not particularly readable in its current form, and suffered from recentism amongst other things. I have just undertaken an edit attempting to implement my suggestion, in the hope that others might have a look and decide it is now in better shape. I hope you will agree. I am happy to discuss on the talk page obviously. hamiltonstone (talk) 12:54, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, I can't do the facebook stuff but my hunch is there are some non-free possibilities plus, of course, the foundation itself which is likely to see the value to donating some archival material. If you do contact anyone encourage them to donate freely to Wikicommons so the images can be used worldwide. -- Banjeboi 13:43, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

Hey, I would like to have the newsletter done in 10 days, are you going to have the motto contest section ready by then?

Also I left a recruitment section ready for you. Ikip (talk) 04:31, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Sorry

Sorry, I have sent it to about half the people. I didn't think you still wanted to do this. I wasn't getting much response, so I waited for Michael to give me an interview, and Fey to write the feature article, and I sent it. Did you see what I wrote on the ARS talk page? Wikipedia_talk:Article_Rescue_Squadron#LAST_CHANCE_TO_COMPLAIN also User_talk:A_Nobody#WP:Article_Rescue_Squadron_contest

I will wait to send it to the rest of the ARS members, (I left off at User:Unionhawk found here: User:Ikip/93

You can start editing the page Wikipedia:WikiProject Article Rescue Squadron/Newsletter/20090901 right now. I will add a special link to what you want to do right now, which will show up on the 100+ editors talk pages.

I hope this remedies your concern, I simply didn't get much of a response. Ikip (talk) 11:11, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Here is the new contest page I just created: Contests
Remember, you can change and edit everything, because it is a template, a link to another page, nothing I sent out is permanent. Ikip (talk) 11:15, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Arg, I don't have time now - this second, or even for a day or two. I was starting to draft material and had a list of stuff I thought show go in. I was hoping to do all that Wednesday/Thursday, get feedback and tweak. And, of course, use a bot to deliver. I really don't have time now to fix anything and by the time I do I feel it will be too late. I know you mean well but ... -- Banjeboi 11:21, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Shit, I just saw your post: #WP:Article Rescue Squadron motto contest
You can replace the page with "coming soon" which will show up on all people's pages, if you wish, please replace the newsletter page Wikipedia:WikiProject Article Rescue Squadron/Newsletter/20090901 with

'''Coming Soon'''

Due to last minute improvements, the newsletter will be postponed for a couple of days.

Please keep this template here for and watch for the newsletter to appear.

Actually doing it this way may spark more interest than how it is now.
I am planning on making this monthly, so if you don't want to change the page, you can add your information in the October issue. Ikip (talk) 11:25, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

I don't think we should change what has already been sent out. I suggest complete the mailing and I'll shelve everything for now. -- Banjeboi 08:40, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Culture

In reference to your question "Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?" I can tell you at least one thing: When one of the 1960s radicals (I think it was H. Rap Brown) was criticized for advocating or at least not disowning violence, he said, "Violence is as American as apple pie." Another quote I saw somewhere, I don't know by whom, said this about the Star Trek universe: "The Federation is who we would like to be. The Klingons are who we really are." Or something like that. I've gone ahead and asked for community support of a one edit per day rule for you and I on the Wikipedia talk:Paid editing. I feel our edits have effectively excluded other editors from contributing and I don't think the two of us are getting anywhere. I have serious issues with the way you have been editing, although I am more inclined to try this limited editing approach rather than a more heavy-handed approach. ANI link. --TeaDrinker (talk) 18:33, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Your proposal was for 1RR on the talkpage which is counter to dialg which is what we are suppose to do. That the threads have become tedious is unfortunate but I feel are a part of the process. I have yet been able to actually overhaul that page and constructive dialog is effectively stifled but I'm not giving up. -- Banjeboi 03:56, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Per Will's note that I had selected the wrong forum for my complaint, I have moved the issue to Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Benjiboi, and per the requirements of the forum, added appropriate diffs. Apologies for the confusion. --TeaDrinker (talk) 05:49, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

You're very welcome, I'm not sure how to gracefully step out of the whole mess but if you're up for it you may try apologizing ala - I realize now that although my interest was to bring attention to an abusive user unfortunately I have been a part of the problem. I will work to avoid them and hope those who have advocated for the compromises in allowing the situation to continue will take responsibility for watching the users conduct and edits.
At some point the issue became about you and that detracted from the real problems. -- Banjeboi 21:53, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Regarding your recent moves

I noticed you just spent an hour moving various articles with pornography actors. Can you direct me to where the discussion to do this took place? Thanks. Erzsébet Báthory(talk|contr.) 21:37, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi, the most relevant guideline is WP:QUALIFIER, the thread discussing these particular moves is at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#revert page move please. -- Banjeboi 21:45, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Would you mind giving me some short-term mentorship?

I've prodded Faulconer Legion for the reasons provided. I expect to take this to AfD if the prod notice is removed, and though I don't see any major page supporters, I've notified the page creator and primary single contributor (measured by edits). Do you mind looking over my shoulder? I've been around for four years, and often participated in deletion process, but have never prodded or nominated a page for deletion before. I didn't just randomly choose to practice today, but stumbled on the article through a new link to a watched page. As an history-cluster editor, I'm concerned about the blending of real and imagined detail in a wikipedia article, so I'm sensitive to derivative stuff like the subject page. If you choose to help, please provide feedback here in this thread on your talk page. Unless I do something very stupid, please avoid getting directly involved. Thanks one way or the other! BusterD (talk) 23:45, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

If I were you, on Faulconer Legion, I would upmerge to the parent article which is quite short. Then redirect the page there. In this way we keep the content which seems reasonable and it allows the contributors to work on improving the area of their interest. In the process you can help unbleed a bit, including "These events are aligned with some actual history" or something that makes sense. I'm happy to offer any advice, anytime. -- Banjeboi 09:21, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
I may eventually do exactly as you suggest; I'd considered a merge tag first. Let's see if somebody really cares before I take any action. BusterD (talk) 11:17, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Do you think there is nothing there that should be saved, ergo deleting it is the best route? Because that's what a prod will do. -- Banjeboi 23:10, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm not a Bernard Cornwell fan, but I can see how this information has usefulness to someone who might have more interest than myself. As I said, my primary concern is the blurring of lines between actual people and fictional counterparts who happen to share partial biographies. I believe that your question gets right at it; it would be a shame to waste perfectly good work when a merge would provide better options, and perhaps improve the Chronicles page (a monumental good thing). Since I applied the prod tag myself, should I remove it, then apply the merge tag before giving the process another brief chance to draw eyes? BusterD (talk) 23:48, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Since you have an idea of the material and the inherent problems with some of it I would copy the entire to-be-deleted page and work at upmerging into the main article. In this way you are showing what is still encyclopedic and keeping it as well as cleaning it up and putting it into context. If you feel you've fairly kept everything that should be and the expanded parent article seems fine then I would remove the prod and redirect. See if you can do the merge itself, neither article is long so it should go smooth enough. -- Banjeboi 23:56, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Done. BusterD (talk) 11:18, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
