Hi Ben, the link to the book that you've added to several articles, can you say more about what that is, please? It looks a little like a personal website/personal essay. Has the book been published? SlimVirgin (talk) 04:17, Apr 16, 2005 (UTC)
- (Copied from User talk:SlimVirgin) Can I fill this one? Ben, it dosen't need to be published in print necessarily (though that helps wrt indicating its notability), but it does need to be well-known. That you are the author is somewhat problematic (in terms of the insertions being understood as self-promotion), but the key issue, for now, is to establish the work's notability. Otherwise, it cannot be mentioned on the article namespace, I'm afraid. Not a comment on the actual work (which I have yet to read or even glance at). El_C 05:07, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Experiment
I don't see how I can use this to do anything but talk to myself. I don't see how I can write anything here and expect it to be a reply. Ben Best 03:30, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Hi Ben, thanks for your replies on my talk page and by e-mail. I'll respond properly when I have a bit more time. In the meantime, I just wanted to let you know that the way most people use editors' talk pages is to place messages for you on your talk page, and then you respond to them on theirs, as I'm doing here. Some editors do it differently: they respond to their messages on their own talk pages to preserve the context of the discussion (questions and answers), and they expect other editors to keep that talk page on their watchlists so they can see a response has been left. To place a page on your watchlist, just go to that page and click on "watch" in the top right hand corner. It sounds more complicated than it is but you'll get used to it very quickly. Let me know if you need help with anything else. In the meantime, I'll have a further think about the issue of the links and will get back to you, probably by e-mail. How to know if a user has been blocked
Hi, Benbest, I saw your message on SlimVirgin's talk page. If you go to Special:Log/block and enter User:24.122.51.203 into the box for "title" (leave the box for "user" blank), you'll see that that IP address was actually blocked a few minutes before you posted to Slim. I came across that special page by accident, but now I often check it when I'm reverting vandalism, and I usually find that the vandal has been blocked two or three minutes before. Wiktionary
I have just created a Wiktionary account and have been creating a number of related entries: cryonics, gerontology, senescence, etc. Ben Best 18:12, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
Hey Ben, I fixed your question at the HD by removing the leading spaces in the first line. A leading space causes the text to run-on and not format properly (check the diff in the history). I didn't answer the question so this is just about formatting. Also, you can add your sig with four tildes like this: ~~~~. Contact me if you need any help with any of this stuff. Regards, --hydnjo talk 21:19, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
- Ah, sorry about that. The history diff [1] doesn't show the leading spaces and so doesn't show the problem. Go to Page history and click on the date of your edit to bring it up [2]. See how it makes the page wide, that's because of the leading spaces. Just a suggestion, make a subpage User:Benbest/sandbox or whatever to try stuff out. It helps me figure things out. :-) --hydnjo talk 21:57, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
- OK, I think I know what happened. BTW, the four tildes worked fine on your sub-page. At the HD however, the leading spaces caused the four tildes to render improperly. Thereafter, even though the leading spaces were fixed the sig had already been rendered and so stays the same (once translated, it doesn't translate again). So, if I go back and edit this post, the sig/date stamp wont change unless I delete it and re-enter the four tildes. If you were to go back to the HD and edit out your previous sig and then enter the four tildes your sig will be translated properly (I think). ;-) --hydnjo talk 22:54, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
Longevity page
Okay, I replied on the Life extension talk page to both comments. I won't start a war but I would like to clarify my position as I think I may have misconveyed my opinions on certain things by my posting or your reading of it. --Tyciol
- replied as well. I just stumbled across the article and made an edit, I don't plan on having a revert war :) Scott Ritchie 06:56, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
Good revert there. Is it just me, or do you think that editor got everything they know about cryogenics from watching "Sleeper"? bikeable (talk) 01:46, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks (talk), but my revert did not last long. --Ben Best 22:11, 31 December 2005 (UTC)
Life extension (sugars)
Hi Ben, I'm concerned about using the term sugar because the link is somewhat misleading (implying the disaccharide sucrose). You are correct about reverting the edit to carbohydrate. However, I'd like to propose that we edit it to monosaccharide. The glycation article states: Endogenous glycations occur mainly in the bloodstream to a small proportion of the absorbed simple sugars: glucose, fructose and galactose.
By the way, it's nice to see that that Wikipedia has gained a great contributor in having you here. I've read your excellent scientific reviews at your personal website when I was first reading up on life extension.

Wikifying terms
Hi Ben, I see you've been busy wikifying terms, and just wanted to make a comment. Generally, I only wikify the first instance of a term, so it doesn't appear too cluttered. --Uthbrian (talk) 07:45, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
Benbest on Ben Best
Hi Ben, I came to your page because I was doing a bit of RC patrol and I saw Benbest editing Ben Best. I'm sure it's not news to you that this is a red flag... :) But after reading the honest note on your user page, I just wanted to say hello. It's interesting to see the different stories that bring us to Wikipedia, and the draw (addiction) than eventually keeps us here! Cheers.--Bookandcoffee 00:29, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, Bookandcoffee! --Ben Best 05:39, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
You might want to add this
Ben:
I was reading about Cryogenics and you name came up as one of the main editors/experts on the topic. Our video site has this video clip on Cryogenics and if you think it is worthy, you might wish to link to it. I used to link video clips but they accused me of self-promotion.
If you think it is worthy, feel free. The cipyrights have been cleared for streaming. There is a :15 commercial at the front of the 2 min. video clip. If you wish to contact me, do so at Jaffer@gohercentral.com

- Thanks, Jaffer, but right now I don't have access to a computer connected to the internet which has a sound card or video clips. I should point out that cryonics is not cryogenics -- read the definitions/distinctions on the cryogenics page. --Ben Best 18:47, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
Thought you might like to read this...
Here's an interesting article on the potential financial benefits of cryonics [3] --Uthbrian (talk) 08:08, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks
Thanks for the help out with keeping the Greg Fahy article from being deleted! I was wondering if you might help by leaving a comment about Brian Wowk as well. It is pretty much the same situation as the Greg Fahy article. If you don't want to, its cool, thanks for the help on the other article! (Cardsplayer4life 23:42, 20 February 2006 (UTC))
- I apologize if I in any way offended Dr. Wowk with my previous entries. I had just felt that he deserved an entry in wikipedia after seeing him speak and reading some of his articles. I in no way meant to offend him, though. Thank you very much for the re-edit! (Cardsplayer4life 21:03, 21 February 2006 (UTC))
Brian Wowk vote
Thanks for the re-write, it looks a lot better than the previous one. I have changed by AfD vote accordingly. Tawker 22:09, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
