Shall I nominate this image for deletion? This image doesn't help readers understand the text from Stanley Kubrick very much, and the image itself is replaceable by text. I've tried discussing it to the uploader, but he is still too stubborn. Also, I've asked in WP:MCQ; another person thought it fails to be valuable and to surpass text. --George Ho (talk) 00:30, 5 December 2012 (UTC)
- Policy would, I think, support you here, so nominate it if you like. If we want to use it, it looks like we would need permission. The burden to get that would, I think, be on the person wanting to include it. Without permission, there is no "fair use" justification, really, as it is used.
- Shame, because WP:ILIKEIT !
- If I were an active editor on that article, I'd try to find a suitable free image to replace it with, or ask for permission to use this one - because it does make the article look "nicer". But that's not relevant to the fact that policy probably says we can't use this one at the moment.
- "Stubborn" is a bad word to use in discussions like this. Try and avoid emotional words like that, even if that's how you feel.
- One of the problems is that we have this "grey" area with non-free images, so you will get disagreements like this. I wish it wasn't like that, but it is. Human nature says that when opinion is involved, there will be disagreements.
- (sorry about the long ramble I deleted, I hadn't checked the conditions on the "curbed" site properly - they seem perfectly clear. This would be fair use, and the article content doesn't really support it, as it is) Begoon talk 04:45, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

Commons link: Having problems with a corrupted image
I responded there. This file is cursed - probably the revenge of the Visigoths... It'll turn out to be something I did wrong - as my wife always reminds me, most things are my fault.
If I were forced at gunpoint to hazard a guess at what is going on, I'd go for any of these:
- Different regional caches on different regional servers (just because the first responder says he can see it - and we can't)
- But I don't like [1] totally, because I'm getting a mixture of the 3 files displaying as each other's thumbnails sometimes, so maybe even cross-linked files on the server?
- Most likely something I did wrong - for reasons explained above.
I suspect this might be one of those things which just "fixes" itself when the 2 extra files are deleted and the history recreated for the main file, so we may never know. Or one of the Commons boffins might spot a really simple/stupid explanation. Begoon talk 00:25, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
Ke$ha
Link to discussions: Kesha photographs & Email
I just changed the license on my Ke$ha images on Flickr back to CC 2.0. If you or any of the other editors want them in high resolution without the watermark, let me know and I'll be glad to send them your way. One question - if my images are used, is there a way to include my website (http://beckysullivan.weebly.com/) with my name? I would really appreciate it! Thanks for all of your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Beckysullivan09 (talk • contribs) 16:57, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you very much indeed. I know that will make our Ke$ha "fans" and editors very happy. The photos are on your website, so I don't see why we can't include it on the file page linked from your name as Author. Thanks again for your help Becky - it's very much appreciated. Begoon talk 01:54, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
- Update: Well, sometimes the wheels turn quickly here... All done - thank you again. These are the 4 images at Commons:
- Ke$ha Today Show 2012.jpg - used in article: Kesha
- Ke$ha Today Show2 2012.jpg- used in article: Kesha
- Kesha Today Show Kneeling.jpg - used in article: Kesha discography
- Kesha Today Show Pointing.jpg
- If I can ever help you with anything at all - just let me know.

Maybe you can copyedit Season Two episodes in the article. --George Ho (talk) 14:58, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- Sure. It'll take a few days or more, because it's easier for me to do it in "bits" like I've been doing with the Season 3 page. That fits in best with my schedule. The good thing is it gives me an excuse to watch a few of the old episodes again, when I'm not clear about something, and watching old classics like that is never a chore. My wife thinks I'm regressing to my childhood now that you've got me looking at both MASH and Cheers again after all these years. - Begoon talk 15:08, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- While you copyedit, maybe you can take out irrelevant parts of the story in favor of casual readers. --George Ho (talk) 04:37, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, I am trimming some bits, mostly parts that "infer" things, which is a kind of OR. 150 - 200 words seems like a good length, though - but a few need a little bit more or less than that. I've done the first 4 of season 2 - I'll work through the rest of it as I get a chance. Begoon talk 04:44, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

Are you back?
Can I give you a couple requests?Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 01:37, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
- Would it be terrible of me to say "Yes, but I'm still unpredictably busy/slightly less busy and I can't promise when or if I'll get to them, so I'd be a bit happier if you put them on a workshop and linked me to them"?
- Because if it would, then I won't say that - I'll think of some other way to phrase it....
- Seriously, of course you can ask - whether I can deliver would be the question, and I don't know that.
- Sorry to sound like the Magic f'in 8 ball, but in many ways I think it has the right idea sometimes, and would fit in here just great as an editor with its beautiful and elegant way of giving an exact non-answer with absolute certainty. Just consider how much better this answer would have been if I'd only said "Reply hazy, try again...", and followed it up with "Concentrate and ask again".
- Still, wikipedia is always a place to learn, and today I found out this: "Although many users shake the ball before turning it upright, the instructions warn against doing so because it can lead to bubbles." At least it's just "bubbles" we need to fear - at first I thought that it was going to say that shaking an 8-ball can lead it to give a wrong, random or unclear answer - just shows I worry too much... Begoon talk 15:48, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- addendum:sorry about the ramble - that'll teach you not to ask a short simple question of someone who drinks wine... Still, the 8-ball article I stumbled on in the course of this is funny. It says it's for "fortune telling" and "seeking advice", and in its defence, it does say it's a toy - but I reserve the right to be a/bemused that the article neither contains nor alludes to the word random (or synonyms). Fairly important fact about the 8-ball, I would have thought - the randomness - but I probably missed the memo where this encyclopedia doesn't state the obvious any more. I thought that was part of the point. Still - "bubbles", huh? Great trivia. Begoon talk 16:39, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Bankofindia.svg)
Thanks for uploading File:Bankofindia.svg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Orange bar?
Hey, Begoon, I saw that you installed my script and was just wondering if it's working. :) Writ Keeper ⚇♔ 16:20, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- Like a dream. Lit up all orange and wholesome "like what it should". Thanks for testing it too - service above and beyond. Now I just need to convince the bloody red "1" thing to go away once I've read it... :) Begoon talk 16:24, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- Excellent; you're very welcome. :) Script-wise, I want to stay very far away from messing with Echo itself; one way or another, I expect it to be changed significantly in the near future because of the hoopla. I know that if you click the number itself, it should clear it back to zero, and if you want to get rid of it entirely, you can hide it by adding
#pt-notifications{ display:none; }
to your vector.css page. (Incidentally, I can only take a little credit for this CSS thing; Rockfang had the original idea, and I just tweaked it a bit.) Writ Keeper ⚇♔ 16:36, 1 May 2013 (UTC)- Cool - yeah I know I can dismiss it by clicking, but it's an extra thing to need to click... I won't hide it in case it gives me anything useful (or funny - funny is good) in the interim, and, I agree, it's in flux, and my spider sense says the Orange Bar will be back as opt-out. But, it works now, and it didn't 10 minutes ago, so I still thank you. Begoon talk 16:42, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- Did
display:none
get rid of it for you Writ Keeper? For some reason that didn't work for me. It was still showing up.--Rockfang (talk) 19:13, 1 May 2013 (UTC)- Actually, I didn't try it. Lemme see. @User:Rockfang: Okay, yeah, I just tried it, and it is hiding the notifications pea. Writ Keeper ⚇♔ 19:18, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- And, at the risk of being boring, "#pt-notifications{ display:none; }" hides the notifications thing for me too, completely, after a quick test. (Chrome-28.0.1490.2 dev-m) Begoon talk 19:24, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

I don't think you made one - the whole thing is in flux, but welcome to the vanishingly rare group of people who admit fallibility on the pedia. It's going out of fashion. We embrace you. In a wholesome non-gender specific loving way. Begoon talk 20:21, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

- You are very, and always welcome (though I did little). I cross posted at your page... Begoon talk 22:58, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

The ANI
There is an ANI on some of these issues. [1] will get you to the page, It was item 14 last I checked. Maybe I should have let it drop, but I really did not feel that people had even addressed most of the attacks like "He-man women haters club president".John Pack Lambert (talk) 18:21, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for replying. I should be completely honest here. What I'm really saying is this: If somebody has really personally attacked you, then that is disgraceful. If what we are talking about is random internet brou-ha-ha because someone (dis)/agreed with a silly unimportant categorisation decision you took then, meh... That stuff happens.
- Far too often the two things are mixed up here (deliberately or accidentally) for point scoring and "look at me" value. I've read the link you gave me, and I'll be honest - there's some things I wouldn't have personally said in there, but in general it's your common or garden wikipedia shout loud dispute. I've found those things tend to stop when either party decides to call it a day. Hopefully one side will do so.
- I will say this, though, without proper intersections, and a decent category system, you'll still be having these arguments if I come back here 10 years from now. Don't tear each other to bits because the pedia can't do categories yet. I promise you it'll look silly with hindsight. Begoon talk 18:42, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- What do you think of PBP's constant attack on me for "edit warring" when I override his removal of categories that still exist. It seems fairly clear to me the consensus is you can add to caategories under discussion but should not delete from them. This seems especially relevant when a-in the Anne Hampton Brewster case I did not remove her from Category:American novelists, I only added her to Category:American women novelists and b-if the category is merged, it will almsot certainly have as one of its targets Category:American women writers which Brwester is not currently in, so it seems she clearly should be put somewhere in that tree which has no current nomination against it. c-With the amount of merge and keep votes, it is entirely possible that Category:American women novelists will be kept, there is no good reason to exclude the article from there. PBP seems to assume that he can revert other people's edits with no good reason, but they can not respond. I saw him do the same thing in trying to destory a previous category while it was being discussed at CfD. His victory there seems to have emboldened him, but there is no justification to empty a category of legitimate contents while it is under discussion. No one has claimed that Anne Hampton Brewster is not a woman, so I see no reason why I should let them prevent such categorization.John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:48, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- Oh... ok.... I think some users often pick fights they shouldn't, and I think when they do so, it may be best to ignore them. You're in a high profile, hugely watched situation, and if people want to jump in you might not want to blindly join the fight they offer you. Try very hard to imagine what this will look like a few months or years from now. It's all about perspective. I don't think I can add much else except my wish that good, caring, long term, productive, thoughtful users like yourself don't get dragged into and damaged by fights that seem important now, but will seem meaningless maybe even next month. I have nothing else, sorry... Begoon talk 20:11, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
pbp
"Attack" is almost certainly the wrong word here, and that rule does not override BRD. JPL has edit-warred and now he wants you to defend him? Dude, I'd stay out of this! Also, JPL doesn't get to decide which reasons are valid and which ain't, the community does pbp 20:02, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry - not interested in side conversations. Appreciate your posting here, but discussing the specifics of the argument is not going to happen here. As for "dude, I'd stay out of this" - wrong tone - mi casa. Begoon talk 20:11, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
