Ref style
[edit]Hi Bedford! You've done some great work with Indiana articles, but you have a problem with references. Often you will use newspaper articles as references, but you just write the information. Instead, you can use Template:Cite news, which automatically adds all formatting to the citation. Also, a newpaper article is cited using quotation marks rather than bold. The template does it itself. One article I've noticed this on is Indiana in the American Civil War. I stongly recommend using this template, as well as Template:Cite web and others. Cheers, Reywas92Talk 22:26, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
I appreciate your concern. However, I'm afraid I wouldn't write nearly as much on Wikipedia if I was constantly fussing with templates. Most of my articles are now so full of references, that I would spend 90% of my time on templates.--Bedford 01:57, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

James Whitcomb Riley House picture
[edit]Hi Bedford -- I wonder, could you identify where you obtained the picture Riley_museum_nps_pic.JPG which now illustrates the James Whitcomb Riley Home article. I ask because it does not seem to me to appear in any reference from the article. If the pic is on-line somewhere, I would like at least to edit the pic's description to include that location. In the absence of more precise source information, I am wondering if it is in fact a public domain picture or not. Some pictures accessible through NPS sites are public domain, and some are not. Sincerely, doncram (talk) 11:24, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- It was on a nps.gov website. I'll go look for it.--Bedford 12:05, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for adding the link to the actual photo, that provides better documentation in the commons system and answered my concern. I didn't realize it was in the NRHP photo set for this site. It prompted me to add the NRHP photos set to the NRHP text reference I had previously added to the article (don't know why i didn't find the photo set previously). This photo is arguably public domain because the NRHP owns the negative and it was taken by an NPS employee. In other NRHP photo sets, there are pics taken by commercial photographers that are not public domain. I added further descriptive information to the photo description at commons, including photographer name and photo date, and the photo description's name for the site.... James Whitcomb Riley House. :) doncram (talk) 22:20, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- P.S. I added HABS photo set link to the same article, too, which has 17 pics and 15 data page writeup. doncram (talk) 22:20, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

On this day
[edit]Hey thanks for creating that. I wanted to but I figured it would be better if you did since you've done this before. To save time I'd really appreciate it if you taged each on this day with ((WikiProject Indianapolis|class=Portal|importance=NA)). Thanks! HoosierStateTalk 02:16, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- I wondered when you'd see what I did. Sure, I'll go back and do it. As I don't actually live in Indy, I might have problems filling out each day (its hard enough doing Louisville and Kentucky). Also, you might want to look at Interstate 65 in Indiana.--Bedford 02:19, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- I already tagged the ones you created. Tomorrow when I have more time I'll get to work for On this day and I'll post an alert on the wikiproject so we can get this going. HoosierStateTalk 02:25, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- Hey just wondering if it's okay to more than 1 item on each day; like Portal:Indianapolis/On this day.../March 7. If not feel free to remove one or the other. HoosierStateTalk 19:39, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, you can double up. We just need to make sure we don't put too many on one day.--Bedford 19:47, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Indy Sports
[edit]I was going to use the Pan American games as one of the sections but the article itself is so bare and I don't know enough to write about it myself. I'll leave one open so we can put the Pan American games as one of the featured sports articles. HoosierStateTalk 23:07, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Portal:Indianapolis
[edit]Hi. Thanks for the heads up. I looked at Portal:Indianapolis and think you could nominate it right now. You and others seem to like the portal skeleton, looks great. Although as kids my family loved lima beans, Portal:Minnesota had about the same peer review (no comments). It is nominated if you can find time to take a look. -Susanlesch (talk) 02:39, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
I disagree with your repeated insertion of the tag on Vicki Iseman
[edit]Yesterday you might have had a case. We're long past notability here, IMHO. We're at making sure the article is correct and well-cited. I'll point out that I haven't removed the tag myself, but I agree with its removal. BusterD (talk) 06:58, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Kentucky's portal nomination

[edit]A tag has been placed on Tom Jurich requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
- Thanks for not giving me a chance. It's people like you that drive people away from WIkipedia.--Bedford 02:45, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. redlock (talk) 02:42, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
