Could you clarify?

You added the {expert|XML} tag to the TPoX page. I searched the wikipedia help to find out exactly what action is required but found no detailed guidance. I made a few changes. Could you elaborate on your concerns and how it should be addressed? What's the meaning of the "|XML" in the tag? Thanks! --Tpox 07:48, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Re:Thanks

You're welcome. In the future, you don't need to thank me unless I need to look back at the article and review it. But I sincerely appreciate your comments. Best regards. Shalom Hello 19:48, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Can you help me?

Dear Bearian:

Can you help me?, I do not dominate the English, am Spanish… For that reason the text about Werner Wickboldt is not correct…

You can - or any other Wikipedist - help in the correction of the text?

About the sources, I do not know others in English, I'm sorry…

Kind Regards, --Georgeos Díaz-Montexano 04:21, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Bearian, for so amiable welcome…

I am going to need much your aid; although I am not going to never abuse the confidence…

Kind Regards --Georgeos Díaz-Montexano 12:28, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Re

hey there

thanks for your note on my talk page

as of now, there is no consensus to merge those missions. as this merger has been pending for quite some time now (aug06 if im not mistaken), i'm looking forward to seeing this matter closed once and for all. as far as i can see, one page deals with the mission in the 8th century that is (generally?) considered the extension/continuation of the original work started around the 6th. so to me, it seems logical to merge the two - keeps the content within context, adds information to the main article and provides a logical continuation to the original article as to how their initial missionary work was carried on later. seems straightforward.

but im no expert on the subject, im looking at it purely from an outside editor's point of view.

you've been helping out with WP:PM, have you? Nice to see some more hands at work there :)

SUNY New Paltz COI

Hey Bearian - good idea on addressing the SUNY New Paltz issue on WP:COIN. You may not realize this, but nearly all the major actors in the article are COI. I suspect that most articles of this type have this problem. I suggest that we rededicate our efforts to sourcing information - most of the controversial information is still unsourced, including material which I have added and edited. Let's pick apart the controversial claims and make sure each one is well sourced.

Are we not going to be able to come to an agreement on the nomenclature for the website?

What is your take on the founding date? It seems to me that both views of the founding date should be presented, although I don't think that listing 1828 as a founding date can be justified as factual and backed up by reputable sources. RadicalHarmony 18:40, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Bearian, thanks for your comment. I really don't know that I dealt with anything. Showing good faith is as important as assuming it. It actually works, even when there isn't any intent to improve things. I don't know what that user's motivation was, but others should not see this as a place for a war. Anyway, regards from the antipodes, Fred 00:28, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Filomena Hanas

I asked on the AfD for this article: "Are User:Zd123as, User:83.27.31.131, and User:Russian Pop connected in any way, or is it just a coincidence?" Bearian 02:42, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

  • They're most likely the same person, although I don't recallshit, that sounds like Alberto Gonzales I don't remember seeing so much edits by Russian Pop before. The IP points to Wroclaw though, which is hundreds of miles from the region described in these articles FWIW. I had a look at the edits and they focus mostly on adding diacritics and trying to decide which musical instrument's name sounds funnier (at least, to someone who speaks Polish). --Targeman 02:53, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Law practice management software

Hi, I think you've done a great job expanding it. I guess next we could focus on typical software issues like pricing/advertising, training, compatibility, specific notable features, maybe a link to the federal PACER system... There's also all the stuff I keep reading about electronic discovery but I don't know if that should be a separate topic or not. I suppose for now it's OK, my major concern was saving it from AfD. If an article is obviously a misplaced userpage, it's ok to userfy it. As stated in the userfication guidelines, it's preferable to move the article to the empty userpage using the Move tab, and then tag for deletion the redirect that will be left at the article title. Canadian AfDs

Why not? The whole point of AfD is to discuss the articles, and to determine their merits. There are a lot of articles on useless people that need to be discussed. GreenJoe 15:18, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Sure it is. There are many articles where the merits to keep or delete aren't very clear cut, so we are provided with this medium to communicate and come to a consensus on what the community would like to do. The reality is that it's only a very small fraction of the community that participates in these discussions. GreenJoe 16:51, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

RfC

Quite right, thank you. Actually, IMO the guy is gaming the system, but I think he's probably acting in good faith. He is right that wikipedia should be purged of inappropriate trivia, but it seems he and his friends are immediate-ists, when the right approach is to give the matter considered thought, to review these types of articles with TLC and to extract from them the items that do have merit, and with what's left to consider whether a transwiki is a better option than outright deletion from the world wide web.

The greatest weakness of wikipedia is the lack of respect that some members of the community have for the hard work of others, and an inability to see - or even to seek - the diamonds in the rough.

Also, see the talk message I'll add to DGG's talk page in a few minutes. AndyJones 17:01, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Are you ready for RFA?

I think your chances of passing RFA are excellent. I see from your talk page that a lot of users (myself included) already think of you as an administrator, even though technically this is not the case. You have done excellent work at WP:COIN, WP:DEAD, and WP:AR1. Shalom Hello 02:57, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

I checked User talk:Eyrian and saw that whatever the dispute was, it never became a big problem, and everyone seems to have moved on. Perhaps wait a week or two so that you will be available to answer optional questions at the RFA if you are busy this week. There is no deadline. However, most users will judge you by your overall record, and you've already established the credentials needed to pass an RFA with room to spare.
Please leave me a message when you are ready to go ahead. Also leave a note at User talk:Husond because he has (quietly) expressed an interest in nominating you. Shalom Hello 22:42, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Re. RFA

Hello Bearian. Shalom was right, I did quietly express interest in nominating you in the future by adding you to my RFA subpage recently. However, I still have some minor reservations before offering to nominate such as: 1) despite great involvement in AfD, I usually prefer that candidates have some vandalfight experience as well; 2) your talk page has never been archived, hinting at rather low communication with other users. Admin candidates are expected to have interacted with other users more frequently, and subsequently have archived their talk pages for their size. Some users may thus say that you need more interaction before supporting your candidacy. Anyway these are just minor reservations and I expect that an RfA at this time will be successful. Still, I would recommend some more time before it. I'd be willing to nominate you then. Best regards, Húsönd 17:46, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Re: Hrothgar = George?

G'day! I'm sorry to say that I don't know exactly what you were asking- as far as the name itself, I have no idea. If by "check this user", you meant actually use CheckUser, I'm not an admin, so I can't do a CheckUser. With that said, it's not such a big deal- the article was unanimously deleted- so I certainly wouldn't worry about it. -- Kicking222 13:02, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Grieg

Ought to hold., at least at this Afd. Expect continuing discussions on all the kept ones, and I hope improvement and use of the better material for good new articles for the deleted. When they get rewritten and retitled, I consider they can just be added as new articles. I must tell you, though, that I simply do not have time in the RW to do much rewriting. And as an admin, I'm too involved to protect. But I intend to stay aware at various appropriate projects; the best way of dealing with one-sided ones is for others to join; I'm a member of several on both the deletionist and inclusionist sides. I think that you should be the one receiving credit: The consensus was solidly for deletion before your rewrite, and solidly for retention afterward. It's a prime example of why Wikipedia works on consensus-building discussions rather than simple polling. — TKD::Talk 02:01, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Grieg redux

I second TKD's comments. And even those who often find themselves sympathetic to the arguments of deleting these pop culture can be shown in the right circumstances that the arguments can be overcome. I don't have any way to confirm that a user is a sockpuppet of another. If every incarnation of this editor goes and causes obvious problems like Matt did, it's not a big deal as they'll all manage to get themselves blocked. However, if you think there's still a non-blocked user out there controlled by the same individual, you may want to file a report at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser to see whether they can be shown to be the same guy.
