WP:CWW at CopyPatrol

[edit]

Hi BalinKingOfMoria, thank you for your recent efforts at CopyPatrol. If you notice an editor copying text from one Wikipedia page to another without attribution in the edit summary, please resolve the report by making a dummy edit with the attribution in the edit summary (e.g., [1]), and then notifying the editor of the attribution requirements using {{uw-copying}} or a similar message. Thanks! DanCherek (talk) 06:21, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I hadn't been aware of that; thank you for letting me know. I'll do that in the future! BalinKingOfMoria (talk) 06:22, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi BalinKingOfMoria, you tagged this draft for deletion under the A7 criteria but that is only applicable to articles not drafts, so I removed your nomination. If there is another applicable CSD criteria please feel free to renominate it. S0091 (talk) 18:50, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't aware of that, my bad! Thanks for the correction. BalinKingOfMoria (talk) 18:51, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@S0091: Also, in hindsight, I guess the claim about the invention of "neo abstract" would mean that A7 wasn't applicable anyway. I'll take this as a lesson for myself to be less hasty in the future. BalinKingOfMoria (talk) 18:56, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@S0091: By the way, is there a way to know a priori whether a given criteria applies to drafts or just full-fledged article? (I did a little digging but wasn't able to immediately find anything.) BalinKingOfMoria (talk) 18:57, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The WP:CSD policy does state "article" and its in the article section (like all the A type reasons...A=article). For drafts some the G types apply, with G11 and G12 being the most common. You might find WP:Field guide to proper speedy deletion helpful. S0091 (talk) 19:07, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see. Thanks! BalinKingOfMoria (talk) 19:10, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! Also good catch they had copied most of the content from another article. While not a huge issue once attributed, you do appear correct in that it was at best "loosely" related. As you can see now the draft was declined by another editor. Hopefully the creator will be able to provided sources that support the claims and notability. WP:CP listings

[edit]

Hi Balin! I noticed that you've been listing things at copyright problems recently, and while I really appreciate your efforts in cleaning up and patrolling potential copyright violations, for smaller issues like what you've been listing you can normally clean them up yourself by removing the content. Copyright problems usually is involved when there are foundational issues across a large portion of the article or complex cases of copyvio across the article. Other cases include declined G12s for complexity reasons or not having enough violations for a G12, and we usually handle those as well. Hope this helps, and happy copyright cleaning! Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed a recent edit you made does not have an edit summary. You can use the edit summary field to explain your reasoning for an edit, or to provide a description of what the edit changes. Summaries save time for other editors and reduce the chances your edit will be misunderstood. For some edits a summary may be quite brief.

The edit summary field looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please provide an edit summary for every edit you make. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary, and then click the "Save" button.
