Karnan 1964 film

[edit]

Hey I am impressed with ur work on Karnan film, did you check for any errors in the plot? Pls reply on my talk Page. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:56, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I read the plot. I have some reservations about the plot. Kavach is Hindi. Since you are talking about Tamil film I have changed it to Kavasam which is the Tamil word. Another thing is that is it necessary to write Kavach or Kavasam. Since it is English wiki is it not sufficient to just write as armour? I have added a few lines in the plot. What do you think about it? What about krishna's act of pressing the Arjun's chariot down and making the sun to disappear? Balaji (Let's talk) 17:21, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

yes, thanks for clarifying my doubts. even after seeing the movie twice (2nd time in restored format), i couldnt understand some parts due to the language being too pure. hence i asked for plot correction. Kailash29792 (talk) 18:47, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I saw the rerelease movie. There is no dream scene in the movie before climax.Balaji (Let's talk)

Thanks for clarifying the doubt. Maybe I misunderstood the last scene where Karnan is shown going to heaven.Kailash29792 (talk) 17:10, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh okay. He is just going to heaven.Balaji (Let's talk)

The Original Barnstar
For your impressive work on S.A. Ashokan articleKailash29792 (talk) 12:02, 24 March 2012 (UTC) [reply]
Thanks Kailash. Balaji (Let's talk) 13:33, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Do not directly rate an article as "A class". It has to undergo a formal review process and needs consensus. As of now the article cannot be given more than a Start class. Also do not assess/reassess any article which you created or expanded in future. Vensatry (Ping me) 05:55, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your lecture Ven! Acutally I know all these. Infact I wanted to assess it to C class.. but accidentally typed it as A. I dont think it as a big crime. It is good to see that you are vigilant. Also it would be better to be polite while writing in others talk page.Balaji (Let's talk) 06:07, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Pardon me! Nothing sounds impolite here. You being a newbie, it was just a plain advice what other editors like me would've given you after noticing all these. Vensatry (Ping me) 06:16, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to reassess the article as "C", do it before after the criteria for the same. I'm not providing you the link since you are well versed with all these. Vensatry (Ping me) 06:19, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh okay thanks. But since it is accessed as start by veteran like ven I dont want to reassess as of now. Will try to do it after adding more information. And ofcourse I know the link about the criteria. Thanks.Balaji (Let's talk) 06:23, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No hard feelings! I see that you have been creating/expanding a lot of old Tamil-film articles (MGR-Latha starrers). Hope to see all the red links turn blue in the filmography pages of MGR and Sivaji Ganesan soon. Keep going and Happy editing! Vensatry (Ping me) 06:28, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I saw the movie long back. So I forgot many things. When I see the movie next time I will add more to the plot.Balaji (Let's talk)

Indian Articles

[edit]

hi, just wanted to tell you to remember placing a {{WP India}} tag on the talk page of any Indian article that you create or edit. This helps in bringing the article to the notice of relevant project members so that it can be improved. thanks and keep up the good work. -- ÐℬigXЯaɣ 16:42, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your warm welcome with cookies! I do add the {{WP India}} while I create articles about India. Still your words will remind me to add without forgetting. Thanks for your concern.Balaji (Let's talk)
Cool, i came here due to this [1], I am glad that you are already aware. cheers-- ÐℬigXЯaɣ 18:38, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Pulamaipithan.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Pulamaipithan.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 17:25, 14 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please use the most specific categories possible

[edit]

Greetings, please read WP:Categories to get a feel for how to best place your articles; your article Sabanci University was categorised in Category:Turkey and Category:Universities and colleges. I changed it to the much better Category:Universities and colleges in Istanbul. You can imagine, if everything in Turkey were filed as "Category:Turkey" the category would be massive and unusable! So please read the policy, and always remember to use the clearest, tightest categories so your article will be in its proper place. Teşekkür! MatthewVanitas (talk) 21:03, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reminder eventhough I knew it. I could not tag that photo properly as my internet was very slow to search for categories! Thanks for changing the category.Balaji (Let's talk) 07:28, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Question about Wikipedia Geo tagging bot

[edit]

Hi Balaji, i'm a newbie to wikipedia but i've been doing my two bits to help the pages.. esp. starting with those missing data. I wanted to know who adds / removes the coordinate missing template and how frequently does it happen for Wikipedia India? Anmolsharma.141 (talk) 03:34, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anmol Sharma, Nice to hear from you. As you know already wikipedia is edited by users like you and me. So any one who finds there is no coordinate for a page about a location can add missing coordinate template. In the same way if there is no coordinate in a page you can add coordinates and remove the missing coordinates template. If you are finding difficult in adding the coordinates then geolocator will be very handy. To make this easy Geo tagging bot is run to add these template is run. The bot will be run by the wikipedian who created it. And all modification is accountable by owner of the bot. You may also visit Commons:Geocoding If you want more clarification please get back to me. Happy editing! Balaji (Let's talk) 12:57, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am about to create this article M. G. Chakrapani. once it is created, i need its neutrality to be improved, and copied text to be slightly different. can u pls help? Kailash29792 (talk) 08:03, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the coffee Kailash. I will try to edit M. G. Chakrapani. I saw similar thing happened to S. A. Ashokan. It is better to avoid copying from one source. Even if it is slightly changed it will be considered as derivative work and still it is copyright violation. Because Hindu has clearly mentioned all rights reserved. So even derived work may be considered as copy right violation. If you dont consider offending can I rewrite it from scrath? Balaji (Let's talk) 12:24, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The source information (http://www.metromatinee.com/artist/M.G.%20Chakrapani-3455) was already given in that page. I could not understand why bot has tagged as lack of source.Balaji (Let's talk) 16:29, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is the article about the music director duo of M. S. Viswanathan and T. K. Ramamoorthy, created by me. I think you can contribute to cleaning it up. Please, I dont have enough time as I'll be out of station for some time. Thanks. Kailash29792 (talk) 04:45, 4 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, why no response? Kailash29792 (talk) 15:55, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I am not interested in that page. Balaji (Let's talk) 17:16, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Very well, never mind. But u had agreed to clean up M. G. Chakrapani by changing the sentences (which was not done) and it seems almost the whole article is empty now! Not a command to rework, but just a notification of what happened. Kailash29792 (talk) 17:32, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As a matter of fact I didnt agree to changing sentences as you mentioned. Just changing few words means derived work and it will still violate copyrights. You are in wiki for so many days but still without the true spirit of wikipedians you are just copying somewhere from internet and pasted in M. G. Chakrapani and S. A. Ashokan. You better see the history of M. G. Chakrapani article to know how much changes I made. Even the changes I made also disappeared. It is not to criticise you but just a notification of what happened.Balaji (Let's talk) 11:23, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

hey do u have time to correct this section? Karnan (film)#Box office. Pls use this highly reliable source: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=335274253189245&set=a.131666446883361.25061.124832310900108&type=3 ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 14:13, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The information in the link is already added in that section and there is no mistake to correct it. So could not change anything in it. One thing we can do is to adjust the collection for inflation. But I dont know how to do it.Balaji (Let's talk)

Thanks for the welcome

Sivaji's Karnan for GA nomination

[edit]

Hi, if you are good at reviewing articles for them to pass WP:GA! then I think you can review Karnan 1964. Though there are still some minor errors, I think u can fix them (such as the plot appears too long, yet it misses some key points. Also, there may be lot more info on production which I can't find). Otherwise I feel the article is complete. If u r not interested in reviewing thr article, never mind. Kailash29792 (talk) 09:42, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Are you up for it? Please say yes or no. Kailash29792 (talk) 09:11, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Dheiva Thaai.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Dheiva Thaai.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:16, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Bicycle Thieves, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Tamil (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Better source request for some of your uploads

[edit]

Thanks for your uploads to Wikipedia. There is an issue with some of them, specifically:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the images because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the images, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image files themselves. Please update the image descriptions with URLs that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 21:30, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Relinking English

[edit]

Whoa, has there been some discussion that has led to your linking of English language in book infoboxes? WP:Novels specifically has a standard practice of delinking English in infoboxes per WP:Overlinking, which is pretty clear about common languages not being linked. You should immediately stop, thanks. — TAnthonyTalk 14:52, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@TAnthony: Thanks for bringing it to my notice and making clear of policies. I have been doing some test edits to import data to wiki data. When I use harvest templates to import the language of the work done, the tool scans for the infobox for the information . Then when it sees just English and not English language it says no target page. Please guide me of how to go about to import data to wikidata. I have stopped changes. Is there any merit to start discussion about this issue. Thanks in advance. -- Balaji (Let's talk) 14:58, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It's definitely something to bring up to whoever is maintaining the harvest templates, regardless of if the infobox parameter includes the words "English language" or just "English", the tool should recognize the parameter |language= and react accordingly.— TAnthonyTalk 15:48, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Okay Thanks. I ll take up the issue at the other end. -- Balaji (Let's talk) 16:54, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

CSVLoader

[edit]

Hi Balaji, thanks for your update on the CSVLoader page. I am always glad to hear that the plugin continues to be helpful. It has been 10 years since I developed the tool. Can you explain in more detail on how you used the tool on Tamil Wikisource? Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 22:16, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Ganeshk: Thanks for responding here in talk page. You have done awesome work by creating this csvupload addon. @Info-farmer: taught me how to use this CSVuploader plugin. I use it in tamil wikisource for making changing changes in the header section. For example. For creating transclusion pages. Transclusion pages shows the content which was proof read in the page namespace to main name space. Example. ta:s:கடவுள் வழிபாட்டு வரலாறு/ஊழ் வினை. First I would prepare a list in CSV. Then would use the plugin and create pages or find and replace. I have some doubts in Regex while using find and replace. Can you help me? -- Balaji (Let's talk) 00:25, 16 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks for the detailed note. What are your doubts on Regex? Ganeshk (talk) 12:17, 16 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Ganeshk:Wikisource in the proofread namespace uses the structures and Header, body and footer. The header in the books are moved to the header section. After OCR is done for the image, the whole content in that page is placed in the body. Now i create a CSV list of header information. For example in page number 478 of the following book, i ask to search for "குரல்" then replace the content from "</noinclude>.*?குரல்" and replace with {{rh|'''476'''||'''அறத்தின் குரல்'''}}</noinclude>. பக்கம்:மகாபாரதம்-அறத்தின் குரல்.pdf/478~/s</noinclude>.*?குரல்~{{rh|'''476'''||'''அறத்தின் குரல்'''}}</noinclude> . Now if the word "குரல்" is in the first line of the page it is finding and replacing properly. But if the word "குரல்" is in the second or other lines, then find and replace is not working. Even i selected multiline option also in find and replace option. But still not working. Is there a way i can change my search regex option such that i can find the search term spanning multiple lines? If the description is not clear please let me know. link for the page mentioned in the example. -- Balaji (Let's talk) 05:30, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Have not forgotten this, I will check this out shortly. Ganeshk (talk) 10:08, 21 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have moved this to Wikipedia_talk:CSVLoader#CSVLoader so that I don't forget about this. Ganeshk (talk) 18:10, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

[edit]

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Sollamale movie.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Sollamale movie.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 28 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2019 election voter message

[edit]
Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:08, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
