Copyeditor's Barnstar - ribbon?

Dear AzaToth—just a quick note to ask whether you ever made a ribbon to accompany the Copyeditor's Barnstar. Your ribbons look amazing, but I couldn't find that one. Many thanks! Best wishes, talkGiler 15:41, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Hmmm—I guess not! Never mind; thanks anyway. talkGiler 14:12, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
If it ain't on WP:RIBBON, I'll probably never made it. AzaToth 15:22, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Deletion

You've speedy deleted this image Image:Flag of Lancashire.png with no good reason at all. I created the image of the flag myself and released it for use, with the addition of Image:Lancashire rose.svg a public domain image on Commons. It is incredibly rude that you did this without even bothering to leave a message of notification, I'd like to request that you UN-delete the image I created and place it back on the Lancashire article where it belongs please. - Yorkshirian (talk) 02:14, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Tripped on the wrong image there, was removing illegible fotw images, that one must have slipped on the wrong side. Restored. AzaToth 02:21, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, I appreciate it. - Yorkshirian (talk) 02:50, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Twinkle Bug?

I don't know if this is a bug or, not but I noticed that Twinkle does not seems to add more than one sockpuppeteer tag (for being suspected again), maybe a check if the sockpuppeteer template is on page, if so not place a second one (see here.)? NanohaA'sYuriTalk, My master 03:57, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

I recall I implemented a check for such. I'll look into it. AzaToth 16:26, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
I've fixed it, it was a missing 'e' in the code. AzaToth 16:30, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

GokturkFlag.png

Hi, AzaToth. I realized that you deleted Image:GokturkFlag.png speedily without any warning. It was produced and uploaded by User:AtilimGunesBaydin. Previously, it was nominated for deletion but it was kept since the sources were provided. In addition, i could not see any warning message on the uploader's talk page. Could you please post me the link to the discussion page for GokturkFlag.png 's deletion nomination. Regards. E104421 (talk) 16:57, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

When I checkd them, I noticed that they looked exactly the same, and thus was a copyright violation, but now I see that they are not the same size, so I'll restore it. AzaToth 17:03, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Though I would recomend converting the image to SVG, as they are pretty much safe. AzaToth 17:05, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
  • Alright, thank you. I do not know much on the image policies, and never uploaded an image, but just wondered. I'll ask Atilim to convert it to SVG. Thanks. E104421 (talk) 17:17, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
FOTW images can only be used under fair use, but it's difficult to say as most image sources from FOTW are public domain. AzaToth 17:19, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Twinkle

Hello AzaToth I brought the twinkle scripts to wikipedia.es w:es:WP:TW, but users cannot use it without setting their preferences on english. My question is : Do I need to change a part of the code? (or it should work on any language =S?). Thank you. --C'est moi Parlez 03:50, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

That depends on what module, but most is English, and would need to be patched to be workable in other languages. AzaToth 11:14, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank You!

Thank you for lifting my block! Compwhiz II(Talk)(Contribs) 16:05, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Twinkle "warn" problem

Hi. When I use Twinkle to "warn" a user who has not been warned before, Twinkle stops processing at "data loaded...". Firebug indicates that "form has no properties (line 764)". It only seems to have started doing it today, and it works fine if the user has got content on their talk page. ~~ [Jam][talk] 08:32, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

There appears to be a certain kind of problem that will cause the java script execution to come to a halt at this point "User talk page modification: data loaded". The problem occurs only with talk pages, and it also happens with Friendly, since both share the same library "morebit.js". I am not sure this is a localized problem,a global bug or simply there is something wrong with my Firefox which I ran on XP SP2. Any help will be appreciated! Cheers! Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 14:42, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
I've looked into it, and it appears as it's a bug in MW, i.e. nothing I can really do. AzaToth 14:44, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. I suspected there was some problem because on blank talk pages, my sidebar menu has shifted down to the bottom of the page. Who should I contact to report problems with MW (unless they are already on to it?) Cheers. ~~ [Jam][talk] 14:56, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
I fixed it. Someone made a careless change to MediaWiki:Newarticletext that corrupted the XHTML for new pages. Everything should be working again now. Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 15:33, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Cheers for that Ioeth. ~~ [Jam][talk] 15:49, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Why did you delete the Presidential Poll article--Hammerandclaw (talk) 22:55, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

This arbitration case has closed and the final decision may be found at the link above. Giano is placed on civility restriction for one year. Should Giano make any edits which are judged by an administrator to be uncivil, personal attacks, or assumptions of bad faith, Giano may be blocked for the duration specified in the enforcement ruling. All parties in this case are strongly cautioned to pursue disputes in a civil manner designed to contribute to resolution and to cause minimal disruption. All the involved editors, both the supporters and detractors of IRC, are asked to avoid edit warring on project space pages even if their status is unclear, and are instructed to use civil discussion to resolve all issues with respect to the "admin" IRC channel. Range block

It is part of a range block. I should've stated that. Is there anything that you can do about it? Razorflame (talk) 19:49, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

I see. That's up to the blocking admin I'm afraid. AzaToth 20:12, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:50 öre SEK.png

Thanks for uploading Image:50 öre SEK.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 19:09, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

2008 Northern Illinois University shooting

Just curious as to why you unprotected the article. Jmlk17 23:35, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

It's a breaking event, and there wasn't enough vandalism, there are plenty of eyes on the article. AzaToth 23:41, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
Alrighty... I'm just a bit concerned with a glance at the current history though. Thanks for the answer. Jmlk17 23:43, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
I think breaking events should be treated like FP. AzaToth 23:44, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Re: NIU ribbon image

Apparently, somebody deleted the image as I was trying to work out the correct copyright information, which I don't think is appropriate. I still don't think it's a copyvio, but I'm still not sure on the correct tag? Dr. Cash (talk) 18:39, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

TfD nomination of Template:User wikipedia

Template:User wikipedia has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 08:43, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Please cite a speedy deletion criterion applicable to Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Presidential poll. Thanks, Ron Duvall (talk) 21:39, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

That's not needed. AzaToth 22:21, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Why not? I thought it was customary to do so. It didn't seem like this closure fit any speedy criteria that I knew of, but I wanted to ask before sending it to WP:DRV. Ron Duvall (talk) 22:53, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
I speedy deleted it as it doesn't belong here, there doesn't need to exist a specific speedy deletion criteria for something to be speedy deleted. AzaToth 23:14, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

An editor has asked for a deletion review of User:Basketball110/Presidential poll. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article, speedy-deleted it, or were otherwise interested in the article, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Ron Duvall (talk) 00:12, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Dood.

I didn't know you were Indian. Also just noticed that that other Carl was apprenticed by R. Baley - maybe this one? east.718 at 09:13, January 28, 2008

The above is confusing to me, but I am not the "R. Baley" you speak of. Best, R. Baley (talk) 09:41, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Twinkle gadget

Would it be all right with you if I added Twinkle (default settings only, no customization) as a gadget? I would just have the gadget import Twinkle from your userspace if that's OK. —Remember the dot (talk) 06:58, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Please stop making test edits to AIV

PLease stop making test edits to WP:AIV. These edits are annoying and appear to be disruptive. If you would like to check your edits, use the "Show preview" button instead, but DON'T save your changes. Alternately, you can use the sandbox. But please do not save obvious junk edits just to see what happens. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 13:58, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Was fixing a bug in twinkle, pretty difficult to use "Show preview" then :) AzaToth 14:03, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Good enough. If that was the case, then please at least have the manners to clean up your own mess... Good day. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 17:33, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Was waiting for Warpath to inspect if it was ok. AzaToth 17:34, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Calendar template

RE: Template:Calendar/MonthStartSun. Since you created the templates, I figure I should ask you if you object to me changing the templates to have Sunday as the first day and adjusting the color to a lighter shade. I intend to use the templates for a new self-maintaining calendar for the date articles. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 19:55, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, since when did the week start with Sunday? AzaToth 20:29, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
That's just been the standard used on the templates for the date articles January 1 etc. I think that format is the most widely used (here) since it is present on the 366 date articles. I figured that since it hasn't been disputed thus far, there would be little harm in changing the other template. I've looked at some calendars that are for sale in other countries and it seems that, like the US, most calendars have Sunday first. I could be wrong. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 20:40, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
ISO-8601 prescribes Monday as the first day of the week. AzaToth 20:52, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Week#First_day_of_the_week --TheDJ (talkcontribs) 21:05, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
You can try to see it logically, if Saturday and Sunday is part if the weekend, then how could then the week start with Sunday? AzaToth 21:08, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
I understand the logic. Per TheDJ's link, it seems that the calendar in English speaking countries mark Sunday as the first day of the week. Does a calendar starting on Sunday look odd and confusing to non-Americans as a calendar starting on Monday does for Americans? Logic and ISO-8601 aside, what is common practice? What do printed calendars look like in other English speaking countries? -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 21:28, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Also, I'm having trouble getting a good idea of where these templates are used. As far as I can see they are only used in Template:Calendar which has very limited usage. I could make use of these templates on the 366 date articles by changing them from Monday to Sunday. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 21:52, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
