User talk:Awcolley
Welcome!
[edit]I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, please read about the simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page.
Additional tips
[edit]Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!
- If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
- You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too.
- If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the articles for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
- If you believe something you added or created has been unfairly treated, talk to the user or follow the steps in resolving disputes
- If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
- If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.
Happy Wiki-ing.
[edit]And since I'm here, because of your abilities in CSS I was wondering if you could take a look at this project and comment on it. It's in very early stages and I'm sure a lot of bugs/personal differences will arise and I'm hoping to get some good coders behind it it to get something done. Thanks for your time, and welcome again. - Trevor MacInnis (Talk | Contribs) 17:35, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for the welcome. I really liked your user page and stole some ideas from it for mine. Awcolley 15:30, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
Check out the Jesus article and edit it to keep it focused on Jesus and a biographical account of Him. Watch the Jesus page to keep it focused on Him. Thank you. Scifiintel 21:38, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks. Awcolley 15:29, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
F5 as maximum possible rating
[edit]I request your input on wording tornado events as F5 as rated maximum possible, specifically Tri-State Tornado with discussion at Talk:Tri-State Tornado. If you don't wish to do so, that's fine, I'm just looking for relatively knowledgeable and interested people to render their input. Evolauxia 03:01, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
- The current wording in the article is acceptable. That this issue would elicit such frothy discusssion is absurd; people need to get a life. The Wikipedia article on Fujita scale fully supports the statement in the article and not all the blather in the discussion. Awcolley 15:05, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
Hi,
We started a proposal Wikipedia:Wikiethics to state the existing policies coherently and make suggestions on improving the editorial standards in Wiki. I thought you might be interested in contributing to that proposal.
Unfortunately, a pro-porn and pro-offense lobby is trying to make this proposal a failure. They unilaterally started an approval poll although almost no one including me believe that it is time for a vote, simply because the policy is not ready. It is not even written completely.
Editors who thinks that the policy needs to be improved rather than killed by an unfair poll at the beginning of the proposal, started another poll ('Do we really need a poll at this stage?') at the same time. The poll is vandalized for a while but it is stable now. A NO vote on this ('Do we really need a poll now?') poll will strengthen the position of the editors who are willing to improve the ethics policy further.
If you have concerns about the ethics and editorial standards in Wiki, please visit the page Wikipedia:Wikiethics with your suggestions on the policy. We have two subpages: Arguments and Sections. You might want to consider reviewing these pages as well...
Thanks in advance. Resid Gulerdem 00:08, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
- The matter was OBE before I had a chance to look. Any attempt at defining ethics will always bring opposition from unethical people. I will watch the proposal and ancillary pages. Awcolley 15:09, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
I would love your help.
[edit]Hi,
I know you are interested in christianity, and I recently started a new wiki over at wikicities which is on the subject of christianity. Christian Knowledge Base is the site.
The goal is to have a knowledgebase on christianity from a distinctly "C(hristian)POV" rather than the NPOV. It is not meant to be a mere Christian Encyclopedia, but to foster a real sense of community. I'd like to include things like current events, news, stories, and anything that would add to both an understanding of Christianity, but also its enjoyment. I'm looking for help to build a resource that could really enrich the lives of Christians.
I know you are busy but I am actively seeking new sysops/admins to help me build this site up, and I would be positively thrilled if you could contribute in any capacity whatsoever. nsandwich 01:13, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
- While I applaud your apparent intentions, I don't see how any consensus can be reached on what constitutes a "Christian POV". There are too many irreconcilable viewpoints that claim to be "Christian". Awcolley 15:12, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
Rodovid.org
[edit]Hi, I found you from the category of Wikipedian genealogists. I wonder if you have heard of/been involved in any of the previous attempts at starting a genealogy wiki under the foundation. Seeing as you were in the category, I thought you may be interested in the new project proposal, Rodovid. This project is currently running at rodovid.org. I would greatly appreciate it if you could visit the site and give me your opinion of it. Any input at all will be useful. Thanks. --Bjwebb (talk) 10:34, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
- When things get straightened out (WikiTree vs. Rodovid vs. whatever), let me know. Awcolley 15:28, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
Quinnipiack → Quinnipiac
[edit]Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that recently you carried out a copy and paste page move from Quinnipiack to Quinnipiac. Please do not move articles by copying and pasting them because it splits the article's history, which is needed for attribution and is helpful in many other ways. If there is an article that you cannot move yourself using the move link at the top of the page, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves. Also, if there are any other articles that you copied and pasted, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. I know it wasn't an exact copy & paste move, but the consequences in terms of the edit history are the same. I'm going to list it at the holding pen for repair. This won't affect the article you've done such a good job of thoroughly expanding. You might, however, think about transferring over some of the information from the old article to the new one that you missed (the images and the infobox at least). Thanks again for working to make Wikipedia better!—Elipongo (Talk|contribs) 07:41, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
- Although I had done some recent edits on the old Quinnipiack page, the majority of the content on that page was based on a century-old book that was discredited as long as 20 years ago (including the "Quinnipiack" spelling). Anyway, just to be clear about what happened, I did not copy anything from the Quinnipiack page. Since I was adding all new content (written by Iron Thunderhorse, Grand Sachem of ACQTC, and his wife Ruth Thunderhorse), and since the desired pagename for the article was spelled differently, and since that page was (originally) nothing more than a redirect, I used the Quinnipiac page to build up the article (i.e. wikipediate the Word document I was given) without causing any interruptions in the serving of the old Quinnipiack page. Once I had finished wikipediating the Quinnipiac article, I replaced the content of Quinnipiack with a redirect to Quinnipiac. I apologize if I failed to follow proper procedures for this; I should have checked for an official "page renaming" policy.
- I have not done "cut and paste" on any other Wikipedia articles to move them from one pagename to another.
- I am working to find graphics that I can GFDL. The graphic provided on the old page is erroneous. I will look at other Native American pages to see if there is a consensus format/content guide for info boxes. Awcolley 22:04, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
- Very good then. No problems with you correcting and updating the content of the article whatsoever, you obviously have more information and knowledge of the subject than I do. The problem was that the page's edit history and talk page (with its own edit history) didn't get moved along with the name change. While I realize that you didn't actually cut and paste anything from the old article to the new one, the end effect was essentially the same in terms of the edit history being split up. It's all fixed now, so it doesn't really matter. The relevant instructions, if you want to read them, are at Help:Merging and moving pages. Thanks again for improving the article so very much! —Elipongo (Talk contribs) 20:31, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Tikiwiki logo.png)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Tikiwiki logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:50, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- I have no clue how to delete that image. Feel free to delete it if it is no longer used in the TikiWiki article. Awcolley (talk) 05:52, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
Iron Thunder
[edit]Hello Awcolley.
For a few months now, I have been looking into the history of Iron Thunderhorse, and as I think you know, a lot of details appear to be missing from the record.
For starters, I can find no solid facts on the details surrounding his arrest, and nutjob conjecture is simply not enough to go on. Also, many sources in the article on his arrest either lead to 404's, are completely irrelevant, or both. Adding in the fact of the fake "Donn LeVie, Jr", who repeatedly tried to detract from the reputation of the man in question (Iron Thunderhorse), this definitely looks like something interesting to look into.
Seeing as you are the one who has contributed the most to the Wikipedia Article on him (currently the most solid source on him available besides his book "Return of the thunderbeings: a new paradigm of ancient shamanism", and the maintainer of the website of the organisation he heads, I am hoping you will be the most reliable and rewarding source of information on him.
I HAVE checked the previous edits of the page, and most of the ones that you made. However, they still fail to explain that one fact - Why was he jailed?
I understand the ACQTC is uncomfortable answering questions about his past, or so I've heard from other sources. I sincerely hope this to be untrue, or at least, a case where exceptions can be made in gathering the truth.
As for why I have not looked into his autobiography for more answers, I simply cannot find it at any bookstore or library on the Californian coast.
Please respond soon - I eagerly await more information. You can contact me on my talk page.

Hello!!!
[edit]Hi, this is Jobin, a new wikipedia user. I came to understand that you have an interest in Computer and related topics. I am working on a few articles related to Programming in C. Therefore, I kindly request you to help me on these topics
You may also drop your valuable suggestions on other related articles on my talk page.

Quiripi language
[edit]Hi! I wanted to let you know that I made a major revision to the Quiripi language page, including the removal of a lot of the material you put on there a few years ago. I explained my reasoning on the article's talk page, if you want to discuss any of them. Just thought I should let you know. Take care, --Miskwito (talk) 08:59, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
- Apparently I responded on the talk page; however, I am no longer a pawn of Iron Thunderhorse and have no issues with the current state of that page (largely due to not caring about the matter). Awcolley (talk) 19:51, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
Notification of automated file description generation
[edit]Your upload of File:Awc skyline sunset small.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! File source problem with File:ACQTC thunderclan icon.png
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:ACQTC thunderclan icon.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
