asilvering (talk) 14:03, 26 March 2024 (UTC)Conflict of interest
[edit]Hi I am wondering if you are connected in any way to the only subject of your wikipedia editing (Miguel A. Martínez)? If so that's not necessarily a problem, but it should be declared following WP:DISCLOSE. I am also wondering why you deleted the BLP tag which requested more sources with this edit? Cheers, Mujinga (talk) 12:20, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not. But why have you deleted most of the content? This is a case of vandalism. Autodesplanifica (talk) 15:21, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
- No, it isn't vandalism to delete uncited or poorly referenced additions. This is what the template which you deleted on 26 March was trying to tell you. It says in part "Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediatelyfrom the article". Notice of Conflict of interest noticeboard discussion
[edit]There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard regarding a possible conflict of interest incident with which you may be involved. Thank you. Mujinga (talk) 17:49, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
- I borrowed a couple of sentences from his personal webpage to complete the profile and asked him for a self-portrait. Links to Squatting in Spain wikipedia page are added. His work on this topic has been very influential in Spain, at least. Autodesplanifica (talk) 18:06, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
- You have uploaded the "self-portrait" photo as your own work. Either it is, and you have a very clear conflict of interest, or it is not and you are in breach of the image copyright policy. Which is it? (I'd also be interested to know where you got all these unsourced details about his personal life) Melcous (talk) 21:41, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
- Photo deleted since I don't know how to attribute authorship (it's a selfie posted in Facebook by the author). Details are now referenced to his own webpage. Influence can be assessed, for example, through the multiple media interviews and public interventions mentioned in his cv (same webpage). Autodesplanifica (talk) 22:36, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
- A CV is not a reliable independent secondary source, which is what we are looking for here. On the image, can you clarify - you said you asked him for a self-portrait, then you said it was posted to Facebook by the author. Which is the case? (I note that it does not appear on his public facebook page, and a reverse image search does not find it anywhere else on the internet). If you do have a connection with the subject (or indeed, you are this person), it is far better to be upfront and disclose this now and then we can help you work within the WP:COI guidelines. Thank you Melcous (talk) 11:38, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- Ok about the cv. On the image, both are true, I asked him and he suggested this https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10221175417643277&set=pb.1480341499.-2207520000&type=3 (leaving aside his colleague). As for the connection, I just like his work, which I find notable. Thanks! Autodesplanifica (talk) 13:37, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- These explanations are not very believable. You say you "just like his work" and yet you have the ability contact him to ask him for an image? And your user name here is very similar to his X (twitter) handle. As I noted above, you are far better off being up front and disclosing your conflict of interest and following the guidelines to manage it, than pretending there is not one.
