I noticed that you reverted my edit to Titchwell Marsh, which is a Featured Article. If you make a change to a featured article, you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts. Sources that are not acceptable include press releases, YouTube, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, and websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance. Although you have added a source, a "latest sightings" blog is by definition inadequate as it will soon be out of date. I don't want to edit war on this, so if you can't find a better reference for what you have added, I suggest that I remove your text but update the rarities using the most recent British Birds annual rare birds reports. Any views? Jimfbleak - talk to me? 05:22, 10 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sarcocornia perennis moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Sarcocornia perennis, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Please add reliable sources (not just a database to the article). Although this isn't a requirement per-se for articles, it certainly helps to determine their notability. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Holderness, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Water vole and Coltsfoot (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Reliable sources

[edit]

Thank you for attempting to add a source to the birth date for Claire Coffee . However your edit has been reverted. I'm not sure which of these apply as there wasn't a direct link to your source:

  1. Ancestry.com is WP:USERG and should not be used as a source
  2. The California Birth Index is considerd WP:BLPPRIMARY and should never be used as a source.

Thank you. Toddst1 (talk) 19:58, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing this out to me. With WP:BLPPRIMARY could you tell me what kind of resources are best for finding birth dates for people, if not using census records etc. Thanks, AustinRedd007 (talk) 09:27, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nuthatch?

[edit]

What happened to the nuthatch in that edit? This is not a criticism or trying to catch you out or anything ... it's genuine curiosity! Cheers DBaK (talk) 17:43, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A fair comment, my fault for not explaining properly in the notes. I've been updating pages about places in Britain to reflect the fact that nuthatch in British English actually means Eurasian nuthatch. But in this case the statement is just false- the nuthatch has spread rapidly northwards and so the Peak District is no longer the most northerly region it can be found. 17:55, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
Oh brilliant, how interesting! Thank you very much for the explanation and the link. Great bird too – watched them nest-building near us a year or two ago. Best wishes DBaK (talk) 18:01, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cities of Austria

[edit]

Hi, your recent edit on Bad Vöslau was reverted as it is indeed a city and not a town. Austria has many cities that are not statutory cities, but still hold the rank and title of a city. For more reference, you can refer to W:de:Liste der Städte in Österreich for a listing of all cities in Austria. Raladic (talk) 02:36, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your comment. That’s an interesting one then, i changed it to town as in the first line of the article it doesn’t mention city but instead states it is a spa town. I know a lot of other places which are given the rank of Stadt in Austria are listed as towns and not cities as well, such as Oberpullendorf, Jennersdorf, Bleiburg and Wolfsberg, Carinthia, just to name a few. Should these all be changed? AustinRedd007 (talk) 05:08, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, if it's a Stadt by title in Austria, it should be city and not town.
The nuance is just often lost on the English Wikipedia (especially because we don't have that many editors from Austria that are very actively curating it).
In Austria, we refer to all of these as "die Stadt Klagenfurt" or "die Stadt Baden" or when they are rural and encompass a Municipality in addition to their city title, "die Stadtgemeinde Traiskirchen" (city-municipality) to signify that the principal of the Municipality holds city title and Gemeinde that it also administers over adjacent towns and villages. There are some smaller municipalities as well where the principal is just a town, which are "Ortsgemeinde".
So in short for Austria:
  • Stadt -> City
  • Ort -> Town
  • Dorf -> Village
  • Siedlung -> Settlement
