Bitshares
I have preserved the bitshares content in my sandbox if you need it. User:Jtbobwaysf/sandbox ...I think it would be good if this content would be added to Larimer's article. Thanks! Jtbobwaysf (talk) 06:04, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

wikilinks in sources
Hi, please dont add wikilinks in the sources (like you did for fortune) here [1]. It just creates a huge inbound linkfarm for the fortune article, we dont wikilink from sources. I changed it here [2]. An editor scolded me on this too long ago as well, please dont take it personally :-) Keep up the good edits! Thanks! Jtbobwaysf (talk) 19:02, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Jtbobwaysf: Thanks for the comment - always appreciate editing feedback. After some research, it looks like we don't have a guideline for this at the moment. I think it would be useful to have such a guideline so I've started a discussion at Wikipedia_talk:Citing_sources#Guideline_on_wikilinks_within_citations - welcome your participation. Cheers! General sanctions alert
A community decision has authorised the use of general sanctions for pages related to the blockchain and cryptocurrencies. The details of these sanctions are described here. All pages that are broadly related to these topics are subject to a one revert per twenty-four hours restriction, as described here.
General sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimise disruption in controversial topic areas. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to these topics that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behaviour, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. An editor can only be sanctioned after he or she has been made aware that general sanctions are in effect. This notification is meant to inform you that sanctions are authorised in these topic areas, which you have been editing. It is only effective if it is logged here. Before continuing to edit pages in these topic areas, please familiarise yourself with the general sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.Smallbones(smalltalk) 01:56, 19 July 2018 (UTC)
I believe you've made 2 reversion at Bitcoin in the last 24 hours. Please self revert. Smallbones(smalltalk) 01:56, 19 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Smallbones: I've made 0 reversions - not sure what you're getting at. Λυδαcιτγ 02:02, 19 July 2018 (UTC)
- [3], [4]
- "An edit or a series of consecutive edits that undoes other editors' actions—whether in whole or in part—counts as a revert." WP:Three-revert rule
- The section on General discussion on the talk page - in which you have participated and were prominently mentioned in - makes clear that the problem is that any time I put clearly important well documented material near the top of the article, somebody moves it down to a less prominent place. Burying material is standard practice in articles on dodgy financial products. I'll call out any editor who does this at bitcoin. Now you have undone my actions - please self-revert. Smallbones(smalltalk) 03:00, 19 July 2018 (UTC)
Your recent edits
Hello, I'm 92.253.241.17. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Spoliarium have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help Desk. Thanks. 92.253.241.17 (talk) 07:56, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
Please read WP:COI
especially WP:EXTERNALREL and declare if you have a conflict of interest regarding cryptocurrencies. Smallbones(smalltalk) 00:09, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Smallbones: I don't edit to promote my own financial interests. Please read WP:ADVOCACY - attempting to warn people that Bitcoin is a "minor fad" may be well-intentioned, but isn't appropriate for an encyclopedia. Λυδαcιτγ 01:59, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
- So that is a non-answer. WP:EXTERNALREL says that if you own cryptocurrency you have a conflict-of-interest when writing about that cryptocurrency. I'm simply asking whether you have a COI. Promoting something is a different question. See the first paragraph of WP:COI
- "Conflict of interest (COI) editing involves contributing to Wikipedia about yourself, family, friends, clients, employers, or your financial and other relationships. Any external relationship can trigger a conflict of interest. That someone has a conflict of interest is a description of a situation, not a judgement about that person's opinions, integrity, or good faith."
- So please just answer the question directly. Smallbones(smalltalk) 02:35, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
- It's time to follow the rules when you have such an obvious COI. Would you just make the declaration? Smallbones(smalltalk) 15:53, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Smallbones: Enough - I’ve answered you already. The reason you’re not getting consensus for sticking a warning in the lede has nothing to do with whether I (or anyone else) happen to own Bitcoin, but is simply because you are pushing an obvious POV that’s making the article worse. So stop the accusations and discuss the article on the talk page. Λυδαcιτγ 17:56, 20 July 2018 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – August 2018
News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2018).
- After a discussion at Meta, a new user group called "interface administrators" (formerly "technical administrator") has been created. Come the end of August, interface admins will be the only users able to edit site-wide JavaScript and CSS pages like MediaWiki:Common.js and MediaWiki:Common.css, or edit other user's personal JavaScript and CSS. The intention is to improve security and privacy by reducing the number of accounts which could be used to compromise the site or another user's account through malicious code. The new user group can be assigned and revoked by bureaucrats. Discussion is ongoing to establish details for implementing the group on the English Wikipedia.
- Following a request for comment, the WP:SISTER style guideline now states that in the mainspace, interwiki links to Wikinews should only be made as per the external links guideline. This generally means that within the body of an article, you should not link to Wikinews about a particular event that is only a part of the larger topic. Wikinews links in "external links" sections can be used where helpful, but not automatically if an equivalent article from a reliable news outlet could be linked in the same manner.
- The WMF Anti-Harassment Tools team is seeking input on the second set of wireframes for the Special:Block redesign that will introduce partial blocks. The new functionality will allow you to block a user from editing a specific set of pages, pages in a category, a namespace, and for specific actions such as moving pages and uploading files.
This IP is probably trolling. They removed content in Wikipedia:Hardcore pornography images, I reverted their edits, and they came to my talk page and complain about it. They keep asking questions over and over again such as [5] and [6]. I have already explained clearly to them and they still keep posting something on my talk page. Later I was annoyed and I told them to "fuck off", but the IP doesn't seem to stop and even threatens me that they'll report me. Do they deserve a block? ~ Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to me) 10:06, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hey, thanks for the heads up. At this point they're at a level 3 warning so I'd give them another warning before a block. Will continue to monitor. Cheers, Λυδαcιτγ 10:32, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

Personal attack?
My comment you removed from RFA wasn't meant as a personal attack. Please let me know why you think that it was. Mr Ernie (talk) 18:04, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
- Sure thing. You wrote, "by most metrics, Philafrenzy is at least the level of net positive you are, if not much more." The implication is that the user you were addressing is not a net positive, or at least, not to the same degree as Philafrenzy. Citing what makes Philafrenzy a net positive is totally in line with the point of the RFA, whereas comparing another user to them is only likely to lead to bruised egos. - Following a "stop-gap" discussion, six users have temporarily been made interface administrators while discussion is ongoing for a more permanent process for assigning the permission. Interface administrators are now the only editors allowed to edit sitewide CSS and JavaScript pages, as well as CSS/JS pages in another user's userspace. Previously, all administrators had this ability. The right can be granted and revoked by bureaucrats.
- Because of a data centre test you will be able to read but not edit the wikis for up to an hour on 12 September and 10 October. This will start at 14:00 (UTC). You might lose edits if you try to save during this time. The time when you can't edit might be shorter than an hour.
- Some abuse filter variables have changed. They are now easier to understand for non-experts. The old variables will still work but filter editors are encouraged to replace them with the new ones. You can find the list of changed variables on mediawiki.org. They have a note which says
Deprecated. Use ... instead
. An example isarticle_text
which is nowpage_title
. - Abuse filters can now use how old a page is. The variable is
page_age
.
- The Arbitration Committee has resolved to perform a round of Checkuser and Oversight appointments. The usernames of all applicants will be shared with the Functionaries team, and they will be requested to assist in the vetting process. The deadline to submit an application is 23:59 UTC, 12 September, and the candidates that move forward will be published on-wiki for community comments on 18 September.
Nomination of CryptoKitties for deletion
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article CryptoKitties is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/CryptoKitties until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Jtbobwaysf (talk) 21:27, 3 October 2018 (UTC)

- Following a request for comment, the process for appointing interface administrators has been established. Currently only existing admins can request these rights, while a new RfC has begun on whether it should be available to non-admins.
- There is an open request for comment on Meta regarding the creation a new user group for global edit filter management.
- Partial blocks should be available for testing in October on the Test Wikipedia and the Beta-Cluster. This new feature allows admins to block users from editing specific pages and in the near-future, namespaces and uploading files. You can expect more updates and an invitation to help with testing once it is available.
- The Foundations' Anti-Harassment Tools team is currently looking for input on how to measure the effectiveness of blocks. This is in particular related to how they will measure the success of the aforementioned partial blocks.

- The Arbitration Committee has, by motion, amended the procedure on functionary inactivity.
- The community consultation for 2018 CheckUser and Oversight appointments has concluded. Appointments will be made by October 11.
- Following a request for comment, the size of the Arbitration Committee will be decreased to 13 arbitrators, starting in 2019. Additionally, the minimum support percentage required to be appointed to a two-year term on ArbCom has been increased to 60%. ArbCom candidates who receive between 50% and 60% support will be appointed to one-year terms instead.
- Nominations for the 2018 Arbitration Committee Electoral Commission are being accepted until 12 October. These are the editors who help run the ArbCom election smoothly. If you are interested in volunteering for this role, please consider nominating yourself.
List of Cryptocurrencies
Hi Dan, I'm contacting you as I noticed you were the last editor on the List of Cryptocurrencies page. I'd like to add Skycoin to the table, but I don't have edit access to the page. Can you help? Details for the table are as follows:
2011, Active, Skycoin, SKY, Brandon 'Synth' Smietana, Obelisk, CX/CXO, Web of Trust, "The Skycoin ecosystem includes Skyminers (hardware nodes), Skywire (decentralized Internet), Sky Fiber (blockchain platform), CX/CXO (programming/smart contracts), and Obelisk (consensus algorithm)"
Thanks! Peak Debt (talk) 00:26, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Peak Debt: Hi, thanks for stopping by. I see tha the Skycoin article was recently created via AfC. I'm reluctant to add Skycoin to the list at this point because it looks like the article has few, if any, reliable sources (the Reuters source is actually a "Reuters Brand Feature" press release). For example, the list includes the year each currency was created, but the article says only that "Skycoin has been in development since 2011", which is sourced to a CoinCentral.com article which 1) is probably not a reliable source 2) says the first commits were in 2013. Λυδαcιτγ 08:02, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
Hi Dan, I believe it meets the criteria for inclusion as described here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:List_of_cryptocurrencies#Criteria_to_be_listed_here
Specifically that it has a Wikipedia article, mentions in mainstream media, is still in function, and has a community.
There are other references to a 2011 start date (see below), but I'm happy for you to put 2013 in the table as this is when the first commits were published.
https://www.the-blockchain.com/2017/08/01/skycoin-launches-vision-new-internet/ https://medium.com/@bivins1/move-over-bitcoin-skycoins-skywire-is-here-2eb19e092266
The current table contains a lot of dead coins and joke coins (Titcoin, Potcoin, Coinye etc.) I'd say Skycoin has more justification to be in the table than some of these.
Thanks! Peak Debt (talk) 10:20, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
- OK, I see that Greenman wrote at Talk:List_of_cryptocurrencies#Missing_entries that "As long as there's an article about it, it can be added to the list." I think my concerns about sourcing are still valid (I haven't seen a single instance of significant, reliable and independent coverage of Skycoin) and the article may end up at AfD because of it, but for now I'll go ahead and add Skycoin to the list. Λυδαcιτγ 03:21, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
Thanks Dan. Another question... I'd like to include the Skycoin logo, and a photo of a Skyminer on the page. Can I do that myself, or is there some sort of copyright process I need to go through to get permission from Skycoin to upload their images? Peak Debt (talk) 08:29, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Peak Debt: Good question! I noticed the lack of a logo myself - you can definitely upload one, as we allow logos as fair use, but do make sure that you include the correct copyright information, including a fair use rationale. The "upload file" page should provide guidance, and you can take a look at File:Dfinity logo.png for an example.
- As for the Skyminer, are you taking the photo yourself, or copying a photo from Skycoin? The former is allowed, but not the latter. Λυδαcιτγ 08:34, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll try uploading the logo. I did try it a month or so ago but it got deleted, perhaps I didn't include the correct 'fair use' information. I will try again.
As for the Skyminer, there are many images on the web... https://www.google.com/search?tbm=isch&q=skyminer
But I don't have one myself. I might be able to get the owner of one of the above images to upload theirs. Peak Debt (talk) 09:22, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

Happy First Edit Day
Brain fingerprinting article
You noted that the brain fingerprinting article is a stub. The reason for that is that an administrator deleted the entire article, including 31 of 33 references -- many of which were from authoritative secondary sources -- and replaced it with a stub. This stub relied on a single source, a primary-source opinion piece. That source has now proven to be written by an individual with a financial conflict of interest. Moreover, it comprises demonstrably and unequivocally false and defamatory information about brain fingerprinting and its inventor. The editors of the publication later checked the facts, discovered that the information was false and defamatory, and published corrections. Other publications that had published the same false information from the same source, including AP and The Discovery Channel, also checked the facts and published corrections. Relying on that false and defamatory source resulted in a Wikipedia article that contains demonstrably and unequivocally false statements of fact and does not reflect NPOV. I am not an impartial source. I am the inventor of brain fingerprinting and the author of several of the major peer-reviewed articles as well as the authoritative professional encyclopedia article on the topic. Although I am not impartial, the rather extensive information that I have provided on the brain fingerprinting talk page is accurate, verifiable, and well sourced. I hope it will be useful in improving the article. Please take a look and consider whether or not the article in its current state is the best Wikipedia can do. If it is not, please help with the editing. Neuroscientist1 (talk) 01:55, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
- I can't really assess the details of that particular source, but it's only used to cite one statement. However, after reading the Verge article, I rewrote the first paragraph to be more NPOV, which I hope is helpful. I understand your frustration with the drastic shortening of the article, but the previous version was quite biased, so I can understand JzG's rationale. If you feel that information from the old version should be included, I'd suggest proposing doing so individually for each source/fact on the talk page. Finally, I recommend reading Wikipedia:Wall of text re: your comments on the talk page; concision will make others more likely to engage. Cheers! Λυδαcιτγ 02:39, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

News and updates for administrators from the past month (October 2018).
- A request for comment determined that non-administrators will not be able to request interface admin access.
- A request for comment is in progress to determine whether the Mediation Committee should be closed and marked as historical.
- A village pump discussion has been ongoing about whether the proposed deletion policy (PROD) should be clarified or amended.
- A request for comment is in progress to determine whether pending changes protection should be applied automatically to today's featured article (TFA) in order to mitigate a recent trend of severe image vandalism.
- Partial blocks is now available for testing on the Test Wikipedia. The new functionality allows you to block users from editing specific pages. Bugs may exist and can be reported on the local talk page or on Meta. A discussion regarding deployment to English Wikipedia will be started by community liaisons sometime in the near future.
- A user script is now available to quickly review unblock requests.
- The 2019 Community Wishlist Survey is now accepting new proposals until November 11, 2018. The results of this survey will determine what software the Wikimedia Foundation's Community Tech team will work on next year. Voting on the proposals will take place from November 16 to November 30, 2018. Specifically, there is a proposal category for admins and stewards that may be of interest.
- Eligible editors will be invited to nominate themselves as candidates in the 2018 Arbitration Committee Elections starting on November 4 until November 13. Voting will begin on November 19 and last until December 2.
- The Arbitration Committee's email address has changed to arbcom-enwikimedia.org. Other email lists, such as functionaries-en and clerks-l, remain unchanged.
Orphaned non-free image File:Huobi logo.png
Thanks for uploading File:Huobi logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:32, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
Sacred prostituion
Greetings. The article Sacred prostitution talks about Islam, however multiple people have already identified that none of the content is about sacred prostitution or a sexual ritual for religious worship. It's been more than six months since a discussion was started and more than it was identified it as unrelated to the topic of sacred prostitution. No one has offered any counter as to how it is related and it is clear it is not about the topic.
The user who added it has already been warned in past for his edits being disruptive as visible from User talk:202.156.182.84 and this just seems to be another since they haven't taken care to see whether what they are adding is about sacred prostitution.
The section on Islam is only about permission of temporary marriages which may be perceived as prostitution or concubinage. However, none of this falls in definition of sacred prostitution. They are already mentioned in relevant articles regarding Islamic views on slavery or Concubinage. It has been removed in the past but has been reverted even though people have correctly identified tit as unrelated to the topic of sacred prostitution.
It would be unwise for others to remove again. Since you are an administrator and was one of those who added it back, I hope you can remove it after reviewing it. The part about Islam is not related to the topic as I already said. Thank you. 202.14.122.156 (talk) 09:33, 9 November 2018 (UTC)

Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Interface administrator changes
- Following a request for comment, the Mediation Committee is now closed and will no longer be accepting case requests.
- A request for comment is in progress to determine whether members of the Bot Approvals Group should satisfy activity requirements in order to remain in that role.
- A request for comment is in progress regarding whether to change the administrator inactivity policy, such that administrators "who have made no logged administrative actions for at least 12 months may be desysopped". Currently, the policy states that administrators "who have made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least 12 months may be desysopped".
- A proposal has been made to temporarily restrict editing of the Main Page to interface administrators in order to mitigate the impact of compromised accounts.
- Administrators and bureaucrats can no longer unblock themselves unless they placed the block initially. This change has been implemented globally. See also this ongoing village pump discussion (permalink).
- To complement the aforementioned change, blocked administrators will soon have the ability to block the administrator that placed their block to mitigate the possibility of a compromised administrator account blocking all other active administrators.
- Since deployment of Partial blocks on Test Wikipedia, several bugs were identified. Most of them are now fixed. Administrators are encouraged to test the new deployment and report new bugs on Phabricator or leave feedback on the Project's talk page. You can request administrator access on the Test Wiki here.
- Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee Elections is open to eligible editors until Monday 23:59, 3 December 2018. Please review the candidates and, if you wish to do so, submit your choices on the voting page.
- In late November, an attacker compromised multiple accounts, including at least four administrator accounts, and used them to vandalize Wikipedia. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately. Sharing the same password across multiple websites makes your account vulnerable, especially if your password was used on a website that suffered a data breach. As these incidents have shown, these concerns are not pure fantasies.
- Wikipedia policy requires administrators to have strong passwords. To further reinforce security, administrators should also consider enabling two-factor authentication. A committed identity can be used to verify that you are the true account owner in the event that your account is compromised and/or you are unable to log in.
- Shock Brigade Harvester Boris (Raymond Arritt) passed away on 14 November 2018. Boris joined Wikipedia as Raymond arritt on 8 May 2006 and was an administrator from 30 July 2007 to 2 June 2008.
