Image licensing
[edit]You have asked for help on image licensing. The important thing to realise is that the licence is not something you get but something attached to the image. I suggest you start by reading Commons:Commons:licensing very carefully. Having done that you should be able to answer this question about two clear-cut cases: why is it OK for me to upload this image of world-famous radio astronomer Susan Jocelyn Bell Burnell but it is not permissible to upload any of the images on this page of New Zealand railways?
Please note that uploads of free images should always be to the Commons. "How should I attach [the licence to] the image?" There are millions of images on Commons and the vast majority have proper licences - I suggest you look at some.
Incidentally, do you know or have any connection with Viperonaut (talk · contribs)?
How can I comment on your Facebook images if you do not give me a link to it? But in general Facebook is problematical because it shows a total contempt for image copyright and has no provision to put licences on images. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 18:37, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
Image captured from camera
[edit]What if I capture an image from my camera and upload it on Wikipedia? Will you allow me to upload it on Wikipedia or Commons? :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by FSCEM45212 (talk • contribs)
- Even with your own photos there can be restrictions, eg. freedom of panorama but in general you should be all right. They should of course be uploaded to Commons and given the recommended multiple {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} and {{GFDL}} licence. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 08:32, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Your recent edits
[edit]Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:
- Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
- With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.
This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

[edit]Thanks for uploading File:General Yahya Khan.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Hi there. I appreciate the desire to see the list illustrated, but there are a large number of restrictions on how we can use "non-free" images. Only free images can be used in lists like that, so please stop adding non-free images to the page. If you have any questions about this or any other issue, please feel free to contact me on my talk page. J Milburn (talk) 15:36, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
- In fact, I'm new to Wikipedia and I did not know that 'Non-free images' cannot be used in lists. --Asadwarraich (talk) 09:49, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
- No problem. I see you've updated the rationales on the image pages, but I've nominated File:General Mirza Aslam Beg.jpg and File:General Abdul Waheed.jpg for deletion, as images of living people are considered replaceable. Sorry about that- I appreciate that the non-free content guidelines can be pretty hard to get to grips with. J Milburn (talk) 07:51, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
Note that non-free files can't be used outside the article namespace. It is not permitted to add non-free files to other namespaces, as you did here. --Stefan2 (talk) 22:26, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- Then how would users come to know that vector version of raster image is available. On this page, it is told that "If an SVG version of any of these images becomes available, please tag the deprecated image with (Template:Vector version available|NewImage.svg)." What should I do to inform that vector version of raster image is available? --Asadwarraich (talk) 09:09, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
- That is a separate problem. As {{vva}} includes the image, you can't use the template if the image is unfree, per WP:NFCC#9. You could for example use {{subst:orfur|SVG file name}} or {{obsolete|SVG file name}}, which won't display the image. --Stefan2 (talk) 10:02, 23 May 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Sajjad Saleem Hotiana
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Sajjad Saleem Hotiana requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
