Hetukar Jha

[edit]

I see that you requested the undeletion of Hetukar Jha. You will note that at the top of the page are MANY warning templates that should be heeded. The most important one is REFERENCES. You must supply better references, preferably cited inline, not just at the bottom of the page, from independent reliable sources that verify the notability of the subject. Look at other similar articles for ideas on how to format the references, or click on the blue links above or in the article cleanup templates for more information. When you, or others, have fixed the problems, then you should remove the template, but not until it has been improved. Regards, The-Pope (talk) 16:39, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the guidance. I shall try my best. --arunbandana 16:44, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for the suggestion. Mr Rajesh Sinha is the person who had got the image taken at Patna particularly for me so that I may include this in the article on Kapil Muni Tiwary. He sent this to me by mail. Accordingly I have included his name in the File:K M Tiway at Patel Nagar Patna July 2011.jpg. I hope this is as per the guidelines of Wiki. Please let me know if anything more is required.--arunbandana 14:59, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add or change content, as you did to the article Patna University, please cite a reliable source for your addition. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for how to cite sources, and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Please note that WP:NLIST requires each entry in a list of people to be notable and to have a source Muhandes (talk) 10:02, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sir/Madam

I have tried to improve the article entitled Patna University because I think I know quite a bit about the university which are so well known and which can be verified easily. A lot of facts need to be included in the article. I may be new to Wiki but do try to follow its guidelines. I have also added a few links which can be verified. Let me convey to u that a long list of the faculties can be added. Many of them have been the scholars of international repute. Some of them are alive and active too. The only difference is that they were not born in this digital world. It is our responsibility to bridge this gap between the digital and non digital world, which we can do only by being a little more positive. Anyway thank u for your words of wisdom. --arunbandana 12:18, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

My aim to be associated with wiki is only one, that is to make a contribution to the world of knowledge that wiki wants to create and I would like to be as responsible and transparent as wiki in particular and world in general would like me to be. In the case of this article I strongly feel that it does not have even those facts which can be easily accessible on the internet now. So may I request u to be a little more encouraging here.--arunbandana 12:30, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

I'm happy you want to improve Wikipedia. I'm also happy you are knowable in the subject at hand, that always helps. However, we need to follow Wikipedia policies and guidelines. I know they are a bit much to chew for new editors, but I am more than willing to help.
If you want to add faculty there are two things to consider, per the inline list of people guideline. First, the person needs to be notable. Simply put, a person with an article is assumed notable. A person without one may take too much to demonstrate notability (though it's possible). Second, you need a reliable source that verifies that the person is/was faculty. Another Wikipedia article is not considered a reliable source. See for example the way I added Kapil Muni Tiwary - the citation I provided clearly says he teaches in Patna University, and as an academic journal it is reliable. I did not revert the ones you added, but please add a reliable source that they are indeed faculty. Also, when using a book, as you did with R. K. Sinha, please provide a page number. --Muhandes (talk) 14:54, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank u for the encouraging words. I shall certainly try to support the content that I add with reliable sources. As far as Dr R K Sinha is concerned the book that I have quoted is fully devoted to him. That is why is the title, Sinha, Radha Krishna (2005). An Epitome of English Literature ; A Commemorative Volume in Honour of Dr. R.K. Sinha (A Festschrift). I must also add here that this book has certain words in his honour from such people like a former president of India, some governors of the Indian states, Lord Randolf Quirk, former vice chancellor of London University, as well as from the Vice Chancellors of Oxford and Cambridge. Now do u not think just the reference of the book is enough in this case? Please respond accordingly so that I am able to remove the tag u have attached for r k sinha. --arunbandana 15:44, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

For other scholars I have added some reliable sources. I hope they would be ok. --arunbandana 15:44, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

The entire point is to provide a source that verifies the person is/was a Patna University faculty. As such, in what page of that book does it say R K Sinha was a PU faculty? --Muhandes (talk) 15:54, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I could not access the source you have for Hetukar Jha. I improved the other sources. --Muhandes (talk) 16:03, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for improving the source. However, this source does not say Hetukar Jha is/was faculty, only that he was affiliated. --Muhandes (talk) 16:26, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sir/Madam

The last remark of yours in the discussion does not leave a good taste. With all due regard to your knowledge of Wiki and the thanks to your contribution I do feel that we need to respect each other. I strongly feel with the kind of presence that Hetukar Jha has in the field of publishing or even on the internet this source is enough in this case. Please be satisfied now. Let us not prolong it. --arunbandana 16:47, 16 August 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arunbandana (talkcontribs)

I moved the above part of the discussion back here. It is customary not to break a discussion into more than one page
I am sorry that you are taking this personally, I was just trying to be helpful, and I was definitely not trying to offend. Sure, we can leave the source as it is. It is not perfect, (I personally published about 20 papers, only about 8 of which were listed under institutes in which I was faculty at the time) but it is better than nothing. But with the kind of presence Hetukar Jha has, wouldn't it be a shame to use a less than perfect source? You have to understand that what looks obvious to you, as someone who is familiar with the subject, does not look that way to someone from half the world away who never heard of the person - they need a source which verifies the facts. Just as an anecdote (and don't take this as hinting anything about yourself or this case) I personally found listings of a certain PM of India as alumni of three universities which didn't exist when he gained his PhD. That taught me the importance of reliable sources verifying the exact fact claimed. I hope you understand. Best regards, and happy editing. --Muhandes (talk) 20:08, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I feel sorry that the discussion became unduly long and undesirable. I do have regard for your knowledge and experience of the wiki. To be honest I have learnt from you even in this process. I was only a little hurt when some part of my content that I value was deleted sweepingly. I thought I should have been given the chance to provide the reliable citations. Anyway I feel grateful to you at the end. (I got my Ph D completed under one of these teachers who himself studied at one of the reputed universities of the us for his M.A. and Ph D.) --arunbandana 07:20, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

And while I'm giving you pointers, WP:CITE is a page explaining how to use citations. --Muhandes (talk) 17:51, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank u for the suggestions. I went through WP:EL and I am able to understand that I should reduce those links in the articles on Kapil Muni Tiwary which can be used as sources for the main article. Do u agree with me. Arunbandana

I would come back to u after reading other articles. --arunbandana 11:38, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

Yes, mostly what you've put as references and external inks should be used as inline citations. --Muhandes (talk) 13:28, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about Kapil Muni Tiwary

[edit]

Hello, Arunbandana, and thanks for contributing to Wikipedia!

I wanted to let you know that some editors are discussing at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kapil Muni Tiwary whether the article Kapil Muni Tiwary should be in Wikipedia. I encourage you to comment there if you think the article should be kept in the encyclopedia.

The deletion discussion doesn't mean you did something wrong. In fact, other editors may have useful suggestions on how you can continue editing and improving Kapil Muni Tiwary, which I encourage you to do. If you have any questions, feel free to ask at the Help Desk.

What did you think about the deletion notice you received?

[edit]

Hi Arunbandana,

In November you received a message about either "Nomination for deletion" or "Proposed deletion" of an article you created. I'd like to ask you a few quick questions:

  1. Was the message helpful? Were the instructions clear and easy to follow?
  2. If not, how do you think the message could be improved?
  3. What do you think about the deletion process in general? Do you understand how to contest a deletion?

You can feel free to answer on my talk page or send me your response by email (mpinchuk@wikimedia.org). (I won't quote you or link your answers to your username if you don't feel comfortable with that.) Your feedback is incredibly useful for improving the content of deletion notifications, so please take a minute to think about and answer these questions. Thank you! Patna University addition

[edit]

Do you have a copy of page 503 of the source that you have just added to Patna University regarding the partition statement? - Sitush (talk) 16:05, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, I do not have it. I have retrieved it from http://books.google.co.in/ as you can see from the reference. Otherwise the partition of Bengal is one of the major events of modern Indian History. Arunbandana (talkcontribs) 16:25, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I know about the partition of India but I can only see that page in snippet view on GBooks. Can you see the full page? - Sitush (talk) 16:35, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Partition of India and Partition of Bengal are two different events of Indian history. One happened in 1947 after the country became independent, the other in 1905 during the British rule. There was one more partition of Bengal in a way when East Bengal parted with Pakistan and it became an independent country called Bangladesh in 1971.

There is no article on Bengal's partition on wiki. Of course there are not many articles on many other topics related to India and the other South Asian countries. Even if they are, the quality is not good.

Yes, I can see the whole book on GBooks. Arunbandana (talkcontribs) 04:46, 29 February 2012 (UTC) 06:28, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't realise that you or the article meant the partition of Bengal, although I know of that one also because of my writing of articles such as H. H. Risley. That is my fault but please note that there is an article - Partition of Bengal (1905) - and I linked Risley to it. So, are you using the cite to verify that the partition happened or that the first assembly was held at the college? This is the crux of my point and I cannot be sure because I cannot see that entire page of the book (GBooks does not show the same content throughout the world). - Sitush (talk) 09:47, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, there is one on the topic. I saw it later. I have cited there only to remove the tag when against partition of Bengal. I am looking for the source to support about the first assembly too. This also, to my mind, is factually correct. Arunbandana (talkcontribs) 10:58, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'll sort out the first bit for you and I will also see if I can find out anything about the assembly. Thanks for all the help. - Sitush (talk) 11:21, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest

[edit]

Hello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.

As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.

If you are new to assessment, you can learn the minimum about how to evaluate from Part One of the Assessment Guide. Part Two of the Guide will help you learn to employ the full functionality of the talk page template, should you choose to do so.

You can sign up on the Tag & Assess page. There are a number of awards to be given in recognition of your efforts. Come & join us to take part in this exciting new venture. You'll learn more about India in this way.

B Class articles

[edit]

Hi Arunbandana, While assessing B-class articles, please follow the guidelines. The articles like Purna Swaraj can be start class. Thank you and happy assessing. Ssriram mt (talk) 21:32, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ssriram, I am late in responding to your observations about my assessment of Purna Swaraj. I understand that the article requires a number of reliable citations to get the status of B class. That way you are right but I am sure it is certainly better than the Start class.

I myself use enough reliable citations for any article that I edit or for a few of those that I have created. So I may have gone overboard here. But with due apology I must also express that you went overboard by reducing it to Start. Arunbandana (talkcontribs) 04:59, 4 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Kapil Muni Tiwary, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Panini (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:12, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Shyam Sharma has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The person doesn't seems to be notable by any means. Poorly sourced content (only 8) and unreliable sources, looks highly promotional (advertisement), NPOV etc

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. TheProEditor11 (talk) 07:30, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@TheProEditor11
1. You say, 'The person doesn't seems to be notable by any means'.
My reply is that the person has been bestowed with 'Padma Award' for his significant and long contribution to the field of art. The Padma Awards are given by the government of India every year to the people in different areas of work for their outstanding contribution. I have already given a few references to indicate his being a recipient of the award. I may give more, if required. At present I am giving just one reason to prove his notability. There are more.
2. You say, it is 'poorly sourced' (only 8)'
My reply: please let me know how many sources I should add to make it richer. There are already 8. Moreover why don't you question those parts that you think are not sourced', instead of proposing for the deletion. Because the deletion of an article like this will cause more harm to the cause of Wikipedia than to this person.
3. You say it has 'unreliable sources'.
My reply: Instead of making such a vague comment like this you are requested to specify which source is unreliable. Because I know that the sources like The Telegraph, Dainik Bhaskar are quite reliable in India.
4. You say, it 'looks promotional'
I am unable to understand on what basis you can say this. You should know that Print making is one of the rare arts surviving in India and Shyam Sharma is an artist who has made significant contributions to this field.
If you still think that the article has a promotional tone, you may edit and tone it down rather than propose for the deletion. Arunbandana (talk) 12:14, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The deletion has been retracted but the sentencing in the article still needs an update as it looks like an advertisement (Point 4). Also, all sources are not so reliable. Also, Padma Awards does not decide whether a person is notable or not. It is given to several people every year and there are not article(s) on Wikipedia about almost most of them. Thanks! TheProEditor11 (talk) 12:38, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, promotional tone was not my prime reason to propose it for deletion but still, the deletion is cancelled! TheProEditor11 (talk) 12:39, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for considering retracting the proposal for the deletion of the article.
Let me clarify once again here that the aim of creating this article on Shyam Sharma is only to give what is due to hm. Nothing more. You are free to tone down the text if you think I have gone overboard at any point. I will also try to add references/contents to improve the article. Arunbandana (talk) 10:59, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes! try to add more references for sure and also try to fix the tone. I will also try to fix it for sure! Thanks for understanding all the circumstances just like a pro! TheProEditor11 (talk) 12:50, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Arunbandana, I also request you to kindly prefer finding English sources more as it is an English Wikipedia! Thanks! TheProEditor11 (talk) 13:21, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Arunbandana, Please try to find ISBN and all details about all books written in the Wikipedia page from reliable sites like GOOGLE BOOKS. It is quite important to cite books! I tried to find them but I couldn't find all of them. I only found details (ISBN, Author details) about Patna Qualam only! Sorry for it.... Thanks for understanding! TheProEditor11 (talk) 14:00, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@TheProEditor11 Sure, I will try to find them. Thank you. Arunbandana (talk) 14:57, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@TheProEditor11

@TheProEditor11
Sure, I will try to find out a few English sources but what if I get only the Hindi reliable sources. Because by this logic the English Wikipedia will become poorer. It will have to remove several topics about which the reliable sources are available only in the vernacular languages. In this age of globalisation when translation is available at the click of a button, this logic sounds hollow. In fact this goes against the very ethos of Wikipedia.
And let me help you understand that the Hindi sources cited for the article are quite reliable. I have cited Dainik Bhaskar, Hindustan, Newsclick. The latest source Samalochan, is a name in the field of Hindi literature today. It's an online magazine being used by the authors, poets and students associated with the Hindi literature the world over. Arunbandana (talk) 16:20, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Arunbandana I am not saying to remove sources and replace them with english sources but I am saying that prefer english sources more. Hindi sources cited by you are 100% reliable but citing english sources (even in this advanced age) is more preferred traditionally as it shows the effort of the subject globally. That's what I am saying! TheProEditor11 (talk) 14:23, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
