Ukrainian painters

[edit]

can I create a list of Ukrainian painters in Lists of painters? --Artvoyt (talk) -- (talk) 13:25, 20 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but you would create a new article, List of Ukrainian painters (or List of Ukrainian visual artists if you wanted to broaden it) and you'll want to cite the entries. Here's info about citing sources and here's Category:Lists of Ukrainian people to help. There's already a List of Ukrainian composers.-Uyvsdi (talk) 07:27, 28 December 2010 (UTC)Uyvsdi[reply]

Tags in articles

[edit]

This edit [1], where you removed a COI tag from an article is seriously frowned upon here. It is obvious from your user name and the majority of your edits(which are to this article Alexander Voytovych) that you either are the subject of this article or are very closely associated with them. Until these issues are addressed, this article will keep this tag. Heiro 00:43, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My dear friend, It seems to me that one tries to block the page without clarifying the situation or letting me to explain what’s happening.
First of all your suspicion of the close connection with the subject is unreasonable. I, as an art historian, work with the artists, but have no personal interest or relative connection to him. Secondly, I deal with a number of artist and have files for them named under specific abbreviation, therefore, without thinking I have entered the file with the user name accordingly to my filling system. As a professional, I have my own systematic approach which I hope is explained sufficiently. The last point I’d like to bring to your attention is that I read the T&C carefully and wouldn’t think to break the rules. Truly believe that the question is answered and we’ll not have this subject raised again.
However, if further assistance is required please do not hesitate to contact me and I’ll be happy to take this “discussion’ to the higher level.

Best regards. Julia --Artvoyt (talk) 14:16, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you are not the subject of this article, why have you uploaded so many images of his work? Everyone one of the images on that article are attributed to him and yet uploaded by you. Can you point us to where this artist has released these images for use as it is asserted for all of these image files? You need to contact WP:OTRS about fixing the licensing for these files. Also, if you are working closely with the artists, then you have a conflict of interest, so please read this bluelink for clarification. PS, the next level for this discussion would be to ask for advise at one of the appropriate noticeboards or start a thread at WP:ANI if you believe I am being unreasonable, which I dont think I am. Heiro 16:53, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there again, I’d like to know what is your position within the entire structure of Wikipedia, and among millions of pages why did you select ours as a great deal of your interest believing that my appearance is the conflict of interest. We do have the identical page on the Ukrainian and Russian versions of Wikipedia; however no accusations re a conflict of interest were presented to us. Your wording: “working closely with the artists” requires further clarification. I repeat once again that I work as an art historian, no art critic, in this town, and represent Ukrainian art on the pages of Wikipedia in English.--Artvoyt (talk) 18:01, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My position here? I'm a volunteer editor just like every other editor on this project. I am not singling anyone out, if you look at my contributions history edits on this page are a very, very, very small fraction of my edits. I happened on the article in question several months ago when you added one of the artists images to another article which is on my watchlist. I then checked your other contribs, which at the time was only to the Alexander Voytovych article and added it to my watchlist. I have hundreds of articles on my watchlist, and they range far and wide subject wise. But back to the matter at hand, you need to take my advise about the copyright status of the images uploaded, before someone else less agreeable than me decides to look at them closer and put them up for deletion as copyright violations. You also need to look at the WP:COI guideline I pointed you to and give it a serious read over. Heiro 18:19, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
According to this website, which you include as a source for these edits [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9], [10], and [11], this websites text and images are "© Ivanka & Alexander Voytovych 2002-2010 All rights reserved". Are you now saying you are Alexander Voytovych or that you represent him? Heiro 21:44, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You either are Alexander Voytovych and have a conflict of interest or you are breaking international copyright laws by posting his work online with a Creative Commons license. It's one or the other. -Uyvsdi (talk) 00:49, 25 January 2011 (UTC)Uyvsdi[reply]

The article Alexander Voytovych has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Clearly self-promotional article written by the article's subject

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Uyvsdi (talk) 23:46, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}}

Hi there,

Thank you for your e-mail ad a new warning message. I would like to ask you to do me a big favor and instead of “blocking” the page to assist me by saying what exactly is wrong with the data. So far I’ve been receiving a number of messages informing me of some sort of mistakes; however none of them are clear enough. Frankly, you don’t help me at all by referring me to some editing links. I am a newcomer on the English version of Wikipedia, as you were a while ago, I believe that you as a watchdog should give a credit, and advise me how to resolve this problem, instead of biting me. “Loyalty” should be given to the newcomers. I built the page following the criteria of the Ukrainian and Russian versions of Wikipedia, I understood the English version has got a different structure or appearance, I can’t see where is the problem? I did an extra mile and compared the article to the others (Herb Roe), they happened to be absolutely identical classify by appearance, uploaded data ect. Once again I ask you to highlight what has to be change.--Artvoyt (talk) 15:15, 25 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the copy of this request which you placed on Wikipedia talk:Proposed deletion - that is not the place to ask about particular articles. The way to get help is to put {{helpme}} on your talk page above your question, and I have done that for you, which will bring others to advise you. I do not have time to write a full reply, but the concerns are that in writing about yourself you have a conflict of interest, and doubts about whether you meet the notability requirements of the English Wikipedia. You should read these policies and guidelines which will help you:
JohnCD (talk) 22:56, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the proposed deletion - anyone can remove them; if removed, then it could go for a 'deletion discussion' - which would last for at least 7 days, and would at least give you specific responses.

The main problem is the referencing. We need to see "significant coverage in independent, reliable sources" - please see WP:VRS.

I'm not sure if, currently, it has enough of those - I cannot speak Russian. But some of the references might not be truly "reliable sources" with a 'reputation for fact-checking'.

Also, the "Biography" is just a listing, and Wikipedia is not a directory. A biography needs to have information about the subject - from reliable sources.

I hope that helps a bit; if someone decides to start a 'deletion discussion' then at least you will get more info there.

Best,  Chzz  ►  23:24, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi There, In spite all my effort, I don’t expect any understanding or help from the other side regarding the English version of the article about Alexander Voytovych. Therefore if one insists on deleting this particular article then go ahead as it seems to me there is no room for democratic thinking on your website whatsoever. I’d like to add a few more words as my final statement. Wikipedia says: “Sources may encompass published works in all forms and media, and in any language. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability. The art works and art life of the artist is the sourcefor academic press, Ukrainian media, academic institutions, as well as poets, writers and publications use his paintings & drawings to illustrate books. The artist takes a part in a busy art life in the Ukraine presenting a number of exhibitions & art projects. Having said that I see that there is no enough evidence for one?????

If one convinced that the article has to be deleted, than do not hesitate to do so, but before that please give me a straight answer to my question. What is the difference between the article about Alexander Voytovych and, for example, the Herb Roe’s article, why the mentioned article is considered more accurate? I must highlight once again that instead of explaining what has to be changed or corrected on the page, one awards us with thenoticeboards. Regarding self-promotion which was mentioned a few times I’d like to make it clear : the artists is a Ukrainian and naturally all sources are Ukrainian, and if the mentioned language is unknown to one it doesn’t meant that it allows one doubts the genuine sources. The Ukrainian and Russian versions of Wikipedia have accepted the article and honoured it, which says a lot.I had in my mind to present more Ukrainian artist, however having such an experience; I’d rather leave this business behind thanks to you. Thanks for co-operation. From my point of view this discussion is exceeded, feel free to delete the article!--Artvoyt (talk) 16:39, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
