[edit]Hi, sorry for being rather inactive in later days. Anyway, can you create an archive for the news that appeared at the Portal:Bangladesh already. I think that would really help. Regards --Tarif from Bangladesh 22:10, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments here. However, as far as I'm aware, fair use content (ie. most audio/video samples) can't be used on portals. If this is the case (or if it isn't, correct me), do you have any other suggestions related to this? Thanks for your help! Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 04:35, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

- Is that in Bangladesh Tarif bhai? What speeds would you be getting and what's the cost? (Just curious) → AA (talk) — 21:22, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
That's good news Tarif. Hope you will contribute more from now on! BTW, I have high-spreed connection here in Hong Kong, as well. So, if there is any band-width intensive work (upload/download image/media files etc.) any of you can ask me, too. Meanwhile, I am planning to propose a new collaboration topic soon. Hope both of you will participate. Arman Aziz 01:19, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yes. I am getting 100 kbps and download speed is 7 to 8. I have given 800 Taka in advance and monthly rent is 550. I and my friend Toky is using the same connection. So the cost down to half. That means it would double if only one person gets it. limitation is, even though two of us can use it at the same time, it gets too slow if one tries to download something. Otherwise it's ok, the connection is powered by BracNet. Thanks --Tarif from Bangladesh 15:56, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you Bhaia for your support at World Universities Debating Ranking. Just an extra request, may I get your email address? My one is notredamean AT gmail DOT com. - Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 17:59, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
Re:
[edit]- Wow Bhaia. That's really great. I was also thinking of a Bangladeshi debate related article. Now I'm quite confident that we can create/develop a well cited and well organized debate related article, may be as "Debating in Bangladesh".
- Currently I am serving as a lecturer at Uttara University where I am also acting as the moderator of their debating club. Recently we organized an inter university debating championship, completely in Worlds format, with 46 teams from different parts of Bangladesh. You'll be happy to know that IBA became champion in its Bengali event. As IBA was taking part in another tournament in India, their English team couldn't participate in UU. Otherwise they might go for double title. In recent days IBA is performing awesome both in English and Bengali.
- I changed my default signature from the Signature option of My Preference. You'll see an empty box there. You need to put HTML code in that box in order to change your signature. I am sending you my codes through mail so that you can get a clear idea on this issue. For further assistance, feel free to ask me.
- By the way, recently Star Campus published one of my WP related articles. You may read this article from this link. Click Here

- Re: Bhaia, it's again really great to know that you are one of the former IBA DC president. I met SMK on few occasions recently, though we just exchanged Hello-Hi. But I have a very close relation with current President of IBA (Sadman) and their current debaters such as Wahid, Shagor and others. I do completely agree that SMK would be one of the best persons who can help us in this issue. It would be really nice if you manage SMK to help us for developing a well organized article on Bangladeshi debating. Now I am feeling inspired to work on Bangladeshi Debate related articles :-D . Hi, Arman! Thank you for reviewing Portal:Puerto Rico. I'm taking your suggestions to heart and implementing them to the portal. I'm just stopping by to see if you could look at how these colors are shaking up: User:Mtmelendez/Portal. I agree that better colors were needed, so I'm trying to find just the right balance. - Ah, good find. It was a wiki-link, and therefore appeared blue. This was removed and inserted inside the transcluded page. Thank you very much for the review, it did wonders. I'm now nominating for WP:FPOC. Cheers! - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 03:33, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Chiefs of Army Staff, Bangladesh, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Category:Chiefs of Army Staff, Bangladesh. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 07:06, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Re: Portal:Africa
[edit]Thanks, that's a good idea. I've gone ahead and added the tag since it will take me some time to create the necessary 50+ subpages. After I'm done with that, I'll go ahead and address the other issue you raised (of the same image being used in the /Featured picture and /Featured article boxes). Re: Yunus
[edit]Thanks to your stupendous efforts, this article is now more than GA quality, I guess. Sorry that I didn't do it myself (shame on my lazy bones). There are a few things that can still be improved (Nabajug Tebhaga, village of Jobra, an expansion of the Grameen mandate, a couple of refs here and there, datelinks...). But, all that can be done gradually over time. With editors like you taking an interest there is ample reason to see a brilliant future for this article, way beyond a GA (I was planning to do a bti more work, but haven't got around to that yet). Besides, the GA reviewer will probably making the comments on the improvements that he or she will require to pass it. Then it will be a simple matter of addressing those issues. Cheers. Re: Star Campus article
[edit]Thank you bhaia for your compliment. There will be a series of articles on WP at Star Campus. I have taken this initiative to encourage school/college/university level students to work on WP.
Bhaia, as you advised, I will talk to the Daily Star authority for releasing some historical and biographical photos in the public domain. Main problem that I am facing here is, they do not understand Wikipedia and its activity. Again and again they asked me about my benefit here. It took four meetings to make them understand that WP is a non-profitable project maintained by a non-profit oriented group. In my first article on WP I basically tried to focus on those points to make other understand about its activity.
By the way, would you please tell me the exact procedure through which some one can release their work in the public domain? And also any such example? These info will help me to convince them.
Regards,
Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 07:42, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- Bhaia, I'll try my best to manage best possible facilities for WP. Due to Ramadan and Eid edition, they are extremely busy nowadays. Hopefully after the Eid I can arrange the meeting and explain them what actually we are looking for. Regards, - Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 04:26, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- Niaz bhai, you may want to point them to the Commons FAQ which should answer most of their questions. Further information can be obtained from the help desk. → AA (talk) — 05:11, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Sorry
[edit]Yes, Arman bhai, we should be consistent. Honestly, I don't know much about Harvard citation. Dwaipayan da used it for Bengali Language Movement and I liked it. So I used it that way. You can change it if you like. By the way, sorry about not working on Sher-E-Bangla. I'll get some time to work for it sooner. Regards --Tarif from Bangladesh 08:39, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- if you all think that it should be merged, then it should be merged. But an DYK entry at the main page has already been listed. And Aditya bhai said, "newspaper supplemets are hardly notable enough for stand alone articles (apart from incidences like the Alpin fiasco)". If I had a choice, I would keep it as Alpin (supplement) though. Go ahead, make your move, I don't know much about guidelines anyway. Regards--Tarif from Bangladesh 08:45, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- The Alpin article may remain separate as an event article like 2007 Chittagong mudslide. What do you think? Cheers. Aditya(talk • contribs) 15:39, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- I think the Alpin article should be moved to Alpin cartoon controversy. The current article content (with its infobox removed) will do just fine. A shorter summary of the article should be incorporated in the article on Prothom Alo. Same should be the case of Chutir Dine, and the main article should be deleted. The alpin and chutir dine cover images may be used in Prothom Alo with reduced image-size.
- However, I am not going to make these changes myself. I think the current approach of Tarif is also ok but not the best approach. So, I'd beg to be exempted from WP:BOLD on this occassion. Arman (Talk) 06:29, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I started working for bn.wiki for a month. Saw the great news about Biman Bangladesh Airlines. And I'd still support to keep Alpin (supplement) as a separate article. Had it not been notable enough for an individual article, it should not be nominated for DYK. Chutir Dine is another thing. Anyway, I've already told. I ain't no expert in this ;(
Regards --Tarif from Bangladesh 07:25, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
- I have moved the Alpin article to 2007 Bangladesh cartoon controversy. I hope no one minds. It seemed more appropriate. Now, if possible, can someone upload the cartoon itself and put into the article? Aditya(talk • contribs) 11:42, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
About releasing pictures on public domain
[edit]Bhaia,
I had a telephone conversation with the Daily Star authority but it wasn't a fruitful one. It seems that I need to arrange a meeting and convince them by showing a presentation. Moreover, releasing pictures, public domain these terms are too heavy for them! They are taking these words something related to law and contract. That is why I decided to tell them to permit us officially to use their pictures on Wikipedia. Will it be okay or they have to mention that they are releasing those pictures on the public domain? Please let me know.
Kind regards,
Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 08:51, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
- The key thing they need to be aware of is that they have to consent to releasing under a "PD-type" license which will allow anyone to use the images for any purpose. It may be more appropriate to seek the help of admins working the Image namespace for more clarity. → AA (talk) — 11:43, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

- Bhaia, actually I am a paying bekar now! This year I received Irish Government's IRCSET Embark Initiative Scholarship[2] which is often compared with UK's commonwealth scholarship because of its status and huge level of funding. I am gonna join University of Dublin, Trinity College in this November as a postgraduate research student in Wireless Communication. Because of getting prepared for my departure, recently I resigned from Uttara University (UU) where I was appointed as a lecturer in the department of Computer Science and Engineering. Interestingly UU authority is quite impressed with my service and decided to pay me one month extra honorary salary. Now the scenario is - I am waiting for my visa, doing necessary shoppings and getting my salary automatically without serving a single min at UU. Cricket, English Premier Football League, Articles for Star Campus and Wikipedia, my current routine. A perfect paying bekar :-). -- Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 11:27, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Yunus oslo photo.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Yunus oslo photo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 17:52, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Alright, here is what I wrote ... (more details in the email)
Hi Arman,
Thanks for the initiative.
I am going to be in BD soon for a visit. So, I can help promote the competition there.
Now, I'm involved with Bangladesh Open Source Network (BDOSN), which is organizing wikicamps, wiki-addas, and campaigns in BD to promote WP. Of course, the focus is more in Bangla Wikipedia. We had a similar idea about starting a competition for Bangla wikipedia ... and we had plans to discuss/organize this while I was in BD. To promote the competition for en-wiki in BD, we'd require very strong media connections, all-out promotions, and possible newspaper/tv articles/programs. I think BDOSN will be very eager to help with this. I don't know if you have read about Munir Hasan, who has single handedly organized the Math Olympiad campaign in the last few years ... he's also the organizer for BDOSN (and the departmental editor for "Bigyan Projonmo" page of Prothom Alo. He can help us a LOT in organizing/promoting this in BD.
So, let me forward the link/proposal to him too, and we can have a combined campaign for both English and Bangla Wikipedia. We can also get more corporate sponsors like Grameen or others to donate a sizable amount to this.
Thanks
