League of Copyeditors roll call
Greetings from the League of Copyeditors. Your name is listed on our members page, but we are unsure how many of the people listed there are still active contributors to the League's activities. If you are still interested in participating in the work of the League, please follow the instructions at the members page to add your name to the active members list. Once you have done that, you might want to familiarise yourself with the new requests system, which has replaced the old /proofreading subpage. As the old system is now deprecated, the main efforts of the League should be to clear the substantial backlog which still exists there. The League's services are in as high demand as ever, as evinced by the increasing backlog on our requests pages, both old and new. While FA and GA reviewers regularly praise the League's contributions to reviewed articles, we remain perennially understaffed. Fulfilling requests to polish the prose of Wikipedia's highest-profile articles is a way that editors can make a very noticeable difference to the appearance of the encyclopedia. On behalf of the League, if you do consider yourself to have left, I hope you will consider rejoining; if you consider yourself inactive, I hope you will consider returning to respond to just one request per week, or as many as you can manage. Merry Christmas and happy editing, The League of Copyeditors. |

Problem removing COI
Hey there, I was wondering if you could help me out. I've read all the necessary guidelines to remove a COI on the article Rusty Eye but there is a particular biased user called [Chubbles] who doesn't eveb know what the initial conflict was (which was already fixed) and keeps on putting the COI sign on the article. If you'd like to contribute to this article to make it "comply" to Wiki standards, you are welcome to do so (there's plenty information on the web). I would be forever grateful. Thank you. Rustyeye (talk) 18:40, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- I originally added the WP:COI tag... (You can tell from the user name that it's a COI) I don't believe he quite understands what it means. I have explained (twice) to him what it means (It has nothing to do with any content disagreements). Either way, he's been edit warring under his I.P. address with Chubbles on the article. Any ideas on how to get this one across? ScarianCall me Pat 11:33, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
Signpost interview
I kept my answers pretty brief, but I could expand on some of these a bit if you wished. Tim Vickers (talk) 02:51, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
- Q: What is the best way for users unfamiliar with molecular and cellular biology topics or new to Wikipedia to get involved in the project?
- A:Dive in and help! Our article worklist could be useful to help people see the most urgent tasks, or you could get involved in the Collaboration of the Month. If you are interested in becoming part of the project in the long-term, just add yourself to the list of participants and get involved in the discussion pages.
- Q: What are some of the departments or sections of the project?
- A:We're not really sub-divided in that way, everybody has their own personal enthusiasms and areas of expertise, but we tend to work together quite loosely.
- Q: What are some of the project's most recent achievements?
- A:We have produced a lot last year. In terms of quality, we had seven MCB project FAs featured on the main page, and now have created 24 FAs in total (hopefully 25 quite soon, with User:Sedmic putting mitochondrion forward as a current candidate)! In terms of quantity, User:WillowW produced an astounding array of enzyme stubs and the ProteinBoxBot run by Andrew Su has now created several thousand stubs on human genes - we hope these stubs will be "seeds" that will attract more expert editors to improve them. The project is doing extremely well.
- Q: Are there currently any ongoing discussions concerning project issues or articles within the project's scope?
- A:Currently we are trying to decide which diagrams to request as part of the Philip Greenspun illustration project and how best to collaborate with the American Chemical Society in their setup of a ACS Chemical Biology wiki. We're hopeful that forging links between the two communities could help us recruit more experts to edit MCB articles, as well as raising the profile of Wikipedia within the academic community.
WikiProject Report
Hi Arky
I commented on the Signpost planning room that I would be able to do the WikiProject Report when needed. I didn't however know that you do them, and are a little busy :). So if you feel that you won't be able to do a report for a week, just let me know, and i'll fill in if needed. Dropping mediation request.
I've reviewed the comments made by the other editors at the mediation page and again on the talk and project pages and it's obvious to me there is no possible consensus on the use of restricted and unverifiable references in "their" article so I am withdrawing. Thank you for trying. I also wanted to point out that I've still never seen any of the information they cited and the article is currently protected exactly as it was before I tagged it. It should probably be unprotected. I have no further interest in editing it.Awotter (talk) 22:21, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

If you would like to hear more from Tim Vickers about the Molecular & Cellular Biology project you can listen to the current episode of Wikipedia Weekly.

André Fauteux
Dear Arknascar44 or ARKY:
I am working on a page for sculptor, André Fauteux. to add to Wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/André_Fauteux
It appears they might delete it as it is not suppose to come from anyone related to the subject. question to its 'notability'. and 'conflict of interest'.
I have posted a reply at the bottom of my talk page, as I did not know where to post it to user 'LittleOldMe'. So I will add it here. Please help me if you want to. Thanking you for any help. Carol . March 28, 2008, Friday.

Hi Carol, Before you continue expanding the Andre Fauteux article, can you please wikify what is there already. In its current state it is not easy to read, and looks as though it has been copied and pasted. Please be aware that copyrights are strictly adhered to on Wikipedia. Regards LittleOldMe (talk) 16:01, 25 March 2008 (UTC) I have made a change to the article to form an opening paragraph and to show you the style which is mandated for headings and internal links. Please refer to the Wikipedia guide to layout for more information on the subject. If you need assistance then please ask. Regards LittleOldMe (talk) 16:33, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Autobiographical information
You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.
Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability. If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. LittleOldMe (talk) 17:06, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
IN REPLY TO User LittleOldMe on March 25, 2008.
I am replying here as I am not sure where to apply. Please do not delete this article on the ground of notability or conflict of interest. Here are my Points: 1. “If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy” LittleOldMe, March 25, 2008- 2. “This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability.” LittleOldMe, March 25, 2008-
Confirmation of artistic importance in public domain documents that is notable and verifiable independent or third party legitimate sources includes: listing in The Canadian Encyclopedia, [The Canadian Encyclopedia article by Clara Hargittay (Andre Fauteux) http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.com/index.cfm?PgNm=TCE&Params=A1ARTA0002740] listing on University websites such as Queens University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada; [Agnes Etherington Art Centre (Andre Fauteux) http://www.queensu.ca/pps/siteart/7.html] and freely available Newspaper archival listings in newspaper articles such as two articles, both of which are online for free public viewing from The New York Times website, that includes; Francis J. Greenburger Foundation Award (1987) - New York Times article online website: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9B0DE4DB1431F936A15750C0A961948260 and ‘Art: New Gallery Offers surprising Americana’ by John Russell, Published July 17, 1981. (Excerpt: “There is also a new sculptor Andre Fauteux who is worth looking over.”) Added profile of artwork made by Andre Fauteux in numerous major museum collections in North American. Such as: The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), Toronto, Ontario, Canada; The Douglas Duncan Collection, National Gallery, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; The Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada; and The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts, USA, This should count as acceptably sourced material and external sourced material, within the field of visual arts. The article on André Fauteux has a neutral tone and is reliably sourced with footnotes. Lastly and most importantly I believe is the historical importance of creative artistic couples. In response to comment, “You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved.’ LittleOldMe, March 25, 2008.These couples are made up of two individuals who have devoted their entire adult life to the making and pursuit of art. Often these couples enhance, foster, cross exchange their talents and are better artists as the result of their union. I offer a few of these couples as examples, and ask the question, ‘would it not be a loss for history to have Wikipedia reject the writing, insight, and knowledge of one side of a creative pair?’ Frida Kahlo, writes a short article on husband Diego Rivera, Lee Krasner writes a short article on husband Jackson Pollack, Dorothy Dehner (1901 to 1994), a sculptor herself writes a short article on husband David Smith. Or in reverse, Robert Motherwell writes a short article about Helen Frankenthaler. (From 1958 to 1971 he was married to Helen Frankenthaler.) Alfred Stieglitz writes a short article about Georgia O'Keeffe. (Married in 1924) These are but a few examples of histories of famous couples that have had a genuine art world partnership. Finally I am happy to delete the lower family section of the article and edit it out. And have done so on March 26, 2008. For that matter I am also willing to delete any reference to family in the beginning portion of the article. Therefore, with all due respect, I see no bias or self-promotion. I have not tried to hide my authorship under a pseudonym. Should I reduce the article to a stub? “The alternatives to deletion should be kept in mind--particularly reducing to a stub. For an article about something obviously important, but which was written with too much COI to easily edit, it is often possible to reduce an article to the basic identifying information.” Lastly I believe my article assumes good faith which is a ‘fundamental principle on Wikipedia'. It is open for anyone to edit. My focus has been on the content and not on self promotion. Help with Gerald Guterman?
Dear Arky, I'm in need of a bit of help, and saw your name on the list of helpers. I seem to be butting heads with another user on the above article. This user, NetHistoryBuff5, seems to have only one interest on WP, and his only interest is making a sweet and empty biography of Gerald Guterman. Smells like a real WP:COI to me. He persistently deletes commentary from the NYTimes, Bruno Frey, etc. He won't use the Talk page, won't use his user page, won't do anything other than revert (we're waaaaay past 3RR).
