Userpage
[edit]Hi there, and thankyou for your kind comments about my userpage. Let me first admit that I am far from responsible for the whole content of my userpage - true credit for the underlying structure belongs to User:Willscrlt, who was something of a mentor to me on my first major wikiproject (WikiProject Mixed Drinks). If you compare my userpage to his you'll see the similarities, although there are also significant differences.
My userpage consists of a master page (at User:Happy-melon), containing formatting code, which transcludes a large number of subpages (8 or 9, I think). Most of these subpages contain only data, not actual formatting. As my page is licensed under the GFDL, you're welcome to copy the entire code if you wish. To make it easier for you (or indeed anyone else) to copy, and also to minimse the likelihood of anyone accidentally editing my subpages, I've made all the transclusions conditional. If you copy the whole code of my userpage onto your userpage, you'll get links to subpages of your userspace. These will all show up as redlinks, so you'll need to add in the information yourself. I used the template Template:lorem ipsum for some filler text for the first part (I've never got around to finishing that!!). The boxes down the side contain code within the subpage: you'll need to copy the box code too if you want to include it - click the tiny "edit" button beside each box on my userpage. Make sure to change the contents to your own preferences. If you can, see how your page appears on different monitor shapes and sizes.
Regarding colour (and I would ask you to please not use the same colourscheme as my page), just have a play around with the code on the main userpage (yours, of course!). I don't know how much HTML you know - have a look for 'style="..."' - the contents of the double quotes usually affects the colour of a section. Pick some colours you like from Web colors, plug them in, use the preview button a lot, and keep going until you get something you like!.
All that said, I'd like to recommend that you don't spend a huge amount of time working on your userpage, at least not until you've made some edits to the mainspace. While you're encouraged to make youself a nice userpage, the purpose of your being here is to help improve the encyclopaedia. I'd like to welcome you to the Harry Potter WikiProject, as that seems to have been your first port of call after creating a user account. I recommend that you take a good look at the Assessment subpage of the project, where all the articles we work on are graded by quality. While you find your feet, have a muse through the higher-rated articles (particularly the B-class ones) for simple mistakes in grammar, syntax, awkward prose, etc. (If you've already been doing this as an unregisted user, then I appologise for teaching the converted!) Once you've worked out some of the Wikipedia principles and policies, check out the Harry Potter manual of style and try implementing some of it's demands on the lower-rated articles. If you have any questions or problems, just let me or any other project member (indeed any other editor) know and we'll try and sort it out. Happy editing! Happy-melon 20:45, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Hello
[edit]Hey, good to see another friendly face around here! Glad you enjoyed my user page -- I liked yours too. And I lost upon reading your message XD I was also really surprised to find out how big a thing The Game was, I thought only my friend had come up with the idea. Small world, huh? Or... something like that. Anyway, thanks again for dropping me a line. If there's any projects you're currently working on, feel free to point me in their direction. I'll probably just copy-edit, but who knows -- maybe I've got some useful information stored among all the junk in my brain. ^^ FoxDiamond 02:53, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ooo, Those WikiProjects sound cool! And I have finished all seven Harry Potter books (my memory probably won't do so well with the enormous amount of info, though), so I suppose I'm pretty qualified for it. I'll remember to check both projects' lists for any contributions I can make.
- However, presently, I must do some homework <.< FoxDiamond 22:36, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Your first lesson
[edit]Okay, Shmooshkums, I've typed up your first lesson! It's located at User talk:Shmooshkums/Adoption and is on the basic policies of Wikipedia. In the future, you should probably add it to your "watchlist" so that you can see if I add anything there (see Help:Watching pages for more information). Cheers, ARkY // ¡HaBLaR! 18:51, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
[edit]SuggestBot predicts that you will enjoy editing some of these articles. Have fun!
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from ForteTuba, SuggestBot's caretaker.
P.S. You received these suggestions because your name was listed on the SuggestBot request page. If this was in error, sorry about the confusion. -- SuggestBot 14:12, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Wikiquote block
[edit]Hi, I just found out I was blocked from Wikiquote, although I don't understand why. Do you think you could explain it to me? I would have asked you there, but I couldn't edit your talk page. Shmooshkums (talk) 01:48, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- There must be some confusion here. q:User:Shmooshkums is not blocked on English Wikiquote. Please explain why you believe you are blocked there, or if you are talking about something else. Thank you. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 03:35, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Motto of the day
[edit]Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.
When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.
If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 02:31, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Survey
[edit]Hi Shmooshkums!
I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!
It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!
Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!
Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you! Motto of the Day Help Request April 2014
[edit]Motto of the Day (WP:MOTD) is in a state of emergency and really needs your help! There are not enough editors who are reviewing or nominating mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review, and this probably means that you will notice a red link or “This space for rent” as our mottos for the next weeks and months.
Please take a moment to review the nominations and nominate your own new mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review and Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/'Specials. Any help would be appreciated! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- This message has been sent by pjoef on behalf of Motto of the Day to all editors of the English Wikipedia who are showing MOTD's templates on their pages, and to all the participants to MOTD: (page, template, and category).
New 10,000 Challenge for Canada
[edit]Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge is up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile! Cheers. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:55, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
