Updating stats

Hi, I've reverted your edit to Nahki Wells - please do not update until the match is over. Regards, GiantSnowman 20:39, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Could not wait eh? It's that tough? Kante4 (talk) 21:34, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
And? Either wait or don't edit it. I've seen that many times with and you have been warned enough times about that. Wait until it's over, you don't have to be the first editor everywhere, sometimes you are not the first to edit, and? Move on, but adding stuff before a match is over is just not good. Kante4 (talk) 21:48, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
Sociedad made the 3-2 and you already updated the table = Vandalism. Next time i give you a warning! Just wait until it's over before updating. Kante4 (talk) 18:48, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

No, you got it wrong. Wikipedia wants accurate information and not wrong ones, even when you can correct them. Tell me, what's so wrong about waiting until the end of a game? And don't come up with your slow connection, that's not an excuse to add WRONG information, which it is! Kante4 (talk) 19:10, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

Honestly, get over it. Sometimes you are not the first, and? What's the deal? Shit happens and at some other edits you are the first. But you can not go ahead and inofrmation which are not right, period! Kante4 (talk) 19:28, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
But it's wrong, simple as that. Wait and then you can submit it. If you do not wait and add wrong info, it's vandalism after a time, i told you. Many people talked to you and sometimes talking alone just not get it done it seems... Kante4 (talk) 19:33, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
Last warning now! Wait until it's over or you get a vandalism warning. Kante4 (talk) 19:54, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
Dude, you got it wrong. That's why we wait until the game is over and not update it before. Kante4 (talk) 20:04, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

José Mourinho

Hey, you really can't wait for a game to be finished, eh? There were still 3-4 minutes to go! Kante4 (talk) 20:49, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Playing for Keeps

Hi I reverted your edit in the Playing for Keeps article. Since you do not know i'll tell it to you. The box office mojo figures for foreign cinemas are sometimes not updated regularly. However boxoffice.com and thenumbers.com does sometimes but their bugdget figures are mostly incorrect. Thank you. KahnJohn27 (talk) 08:35, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi there ARBERO, how's it going?

could you please stop reverting me in this player's article? If the consensus was to move the team's name at WP to Inter Milan, then that's what we should abide by, to avoid confusion.

Have a great 2013, from Portugal - --AL (talk) 01:36, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Jorge Rojas (footballer)

Hi, I have reverted your int'l youth stats as unreferenced. Please include a reliable source so we can verify. Thanks, GiantSnowman 22:27, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

Fair enough, but no evidence that the year/stats you added are correct (he could have made numerous other appearances). GiantSnowman 22:53, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

Edit summaries

Can I remind that is helpful to other users if you finish your edits with an edit summary in the box below the text. See Help:Edit summary. Cheers. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 05:53, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

Updating stats during the game

Hello. I've undone your edit to Christian Benteke. First, there's no point updating during the game, because this is an encyclopedia, not a news service, and we're supposed to use sourced information. Second, because you got it wrong, as you often do when updating in-running. If you wait until after the game, once the stats sources update their figures, you can update with reference to reliable source, and you stand a chance of getting it right. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 20:45, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

Which bit of "you got it wrong" and "with reference to reliable source" did you fail to understand? Benteke's figures are still wrong, as you'd know if you'd bothered to check a stats source instead of just adding 1 for tonight's game. Updating stats first really isn't an alternative to updating them correctly. Struway2 (talk) 21:56, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
Well half-spotted...

Soccerbase says that BEFORE tonight's game, Mr Benteke had 7 goals from 20 league games, and 3 goals from 4 League Cup games.

That means that AFTER tonight's game, he had 7 goals from 20 league games, and 4 goals from 5 league Cup games.

You left his stats table saying that after tonight's game, he had 7 goals from 19 league games, and 4 goals from 4 league Cup games.

Not exactly accurate, is it? That's why we're supposed to refer to sources... Struway2 (talk) 22:09, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

Hello again. I'd like to apologise for being unnecessarily aggressive last night. Sorry. You do a lot of good work here, which is really appreciated.

But please will you try and understand what I was trying to say. There's no point "updating" a stats table if you introduce errors by not checking the source first. You did exactly the same at Andreas Weimann. Before you edited, the table was correct, i.e. the stats included were consistent with the as-of date of 8 January, but it wasn't up to date. After you edited, it looked as if it should be up to date, because you changed the as-of date to 22 January. But you didn't include Mr Weimann's Premier League appearance on 12 January. so your edit made the table wrong, i.e. the stats were not consistent with that as-of date. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:49, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

I get no reply, but i think i'm being polite,

regarding this manager's article, please leave the competition wikilinks in honours as they were (example 1999–2000 Copa del Rey, not 2000 Copa del Rey Final), a competition is much much more then the final. The wikilink of the final is however, quite useful in the storyline, as we can say "Raúl Tamudo scored a goal in the final to help Espanyol win the tournament" for example.

As User:Daemonic Kangaroo said, we don't need the (1) and the (2) before the actual honours. I'm also involving him in the discussion to see what he has to say.

Keep up the good work, from Portugal - --AL (talk) 23:40, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

FC Viktoria Plzeň in European football

Hi Arbero, I see you made some edits on the FC Viktoria Plzeň in European football page while the "in use" template was on the page; unfortunately these have been lost. As a courtesy, please do not edit pages which have the "in use" template on them to avoid edit conflicts. Thanks, C679 08:40, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Additionally I would like to let you know I have removed the stats you added "by country". I don't see how this adds value to the reader, and as far as I am aware, these kind of stats cannot be sourced, as this data has not been previously compiled, falling under WP:OR. I don't want to get into an edit war here, but OR is a policy. Thanks, C679 08:48, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Date of update, in footballer infoboxes

Hello. Just a reminder that the |pcupdate= or |club-update= field in footballer infoboxes is what it says at the bottom of the infobox, a date at which the stats are correct. It isn't designed for a bare date when the player last played, because the reader can't tell from that whether it was correct before, at some point during, or after the match played on that date (they could guess, but we shouldn't be making them have to guess). The easy way is to use five tildes to produce the current date and time. If you don't like including a time with the date, please use a date after the player's last game. Ideally, if you're bringing the stats up-to-date on a non-matchday, use the current date, so that both reader and potential updating editor can tell the stats are up-to-date. thanks, Struway2 (talk) 14:05, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Warning!

I see you still don't obey the table rules of Serie A. I suggest you to always look Lega Serie A when arranging the table. We all thankful for your effort given in contributing to update 2012–13 Serie A match by match. For reference please look at this. 2013 Football leagues

Hello Arbero, as you have likely seen, I have created several 2013 football leagues (e.g. Lithuania or Kazakhstan) and domestic cups (Finland, Kazakhstan, Norway and Iceland) and I ask you if I could be the main editor of these 2013 football pages and that you e.g. take care of those leagues running from 2012 to 2013 (that means those that are already in the 2nd part of their respective seasons). Is this possible or do you want to keep it as it is right now? Catgamer (talk) 17:54, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

No problem, than we keep it as it is and I have to do the lower English leagues as well (mainly Steps 6 and 7) :-) Catgamer (talk) 15:11, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

Updating stats

Please stop to update the table before the end of the matches. Stigni (talk) 13:44, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

And not remove this section before answer it. Can you explane why you always update the stats at the 85' of the match and not wait the and? Stigni (talk) 13:48, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
Please explane, I always wait the end of the match and there is an edit-conflict because you edit it five min before. The next time you edit before the end of the match I warn you for vandalism. Stigni (talk) 13:53, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
I don't prefer to wait, because waiting until the end will only result in conflict, trust me, I have been in these kind of situations numerous times. By the way, my network is wireless, so it's not very fast. Arbero (talk) 13:58, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
This is not an excuse. You have to remember that Wikipedia is not a sports magazine and play-by-play is not needed. So e.g. you updated the Celtic match because Inverness score at 90+2'. Stigni (talk) 14:04, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
I can understand that, but this was the decisive game for Celtic. So I didn't want to miss all the fun. Arbero (talk) 14:09, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
Again for Liverpool-Chelsea 2-2. If you edit in the correct way there isn't a edit conflict, because both edit the same thing. Stigni (talk) 16:57, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
Even if I do edit the right way, it will still be an conflict, because someone else will be there. Arbero (talk) 17:01, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

If you do the same edit as another person, the second edit doesn't have effect, but it isn't an edit-conflict. It is the same edit. Stigni (talk) 17:05, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

Your recent edits

Hi Arbero, I see a number of editors have contacted you about not explaining your edits and also editing tables before games have finished. It is important to explain your edits so other users can see what you have done and so that they know your edit has been constructive - please see Help:Edit summary for more information. You should also not edit articles before the match has finished so that information can be as accurate as possible, as it eliminates the risk of another editor maybe not realizing somebody had already updated. Please acknowledge this message. Regards, GiantSnowman 14:13, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

  • Another request, if it's not too much trouble: please, i have been working very hard to equal ALL players' display in the table of contents, and HONOURS come before STATISTICS, not after. The contents come as follows: CLUB CAREER, INTERNATIONAL CAREER (with the sub-section INT.GOALS), HONOURS, STATISTICS and PERSONAL. In some cases, if info can be found, we can write EARLY YEARS at the very beginning, before CLUB CAREER.

Thank you, happy week - --AL (talk) 15:05, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

Hey Arbero

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 21:23, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

Cleanup

Hello, and thank you for trying to improve the article Pablo Ibáñez. Thing is, it's quite a large article with a lot of lengthy foreign-language references. The refs were moved out to use list-defined format, to avoid clutter in the edit window, and it uses quite a few redirects for the same reason: for example, writing [[stoppage time]] rather than [[Association football#Duration and tie-breaking methods|stoppage time]], to make the edit window as readable as possible. That's an acceptable approach: please see the editing guideline WP:REDIRECT#Do not "fix" links to redirects that are not broken, which starts off by saying:

There is nothing inherently wrong with linking to redirects to articles. Some editors are tempted, upon finding a link to a redirect page, to bypass the redirect and point the link directly at the target page. While there are a limited number of cases where this is beneficial, it is generally an unhelpful exercise, and it can actually be detrimental. With a few limited exceptions, there are no good reasons to pipe links solely to avoid redirects.

So I'm going to restore the redirects, but hopfully leave your good changes in there. If I end up removing anything you think really should be left in, please feel free to argue... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 08:32, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

The majority of your changes were to "fix" working redirects contrary to WP:NOTBROKEN, and I said above that I intended to restore them. We'll have to differ about what's readable and what's not, but after much time spent working on that article, I certainly felt the less unnecessary content in the edit window the better.

I agree that the method I used was to revert to the previous version and then put some of your changes back in, so stuff like capitalising the target of a link or removing blank lines after section headings were undone by default, and maybe that was tactless, and I apologise. But you're mistaken about it being a complete revert. Your re-wording of the lead remains (except "has been" works better than "is" before "since"), and your better link for the championship playoffs remains, and I learnt from your delinking of various uses of "friendly match" that linking on first use in Club career and first use in International sections would be enough, and likewise with the million-euro thing (spelt out first time, abbreviated subsequently), and displaying Mallorca rather than Real Mallorca. I'll explain my reasoning for the rest:

  • "fourth-place finish" should be hyphenated in English: see English compound#Hyphenated compound modifiers, the numbers examples;
  • don't like my reason for changing Internazionale back, will revert myself;
  • unpiped Luis Amaranto Perea and restored Johnny Heitinga, because those are the names they are/were known by;
  • removed link of ankle injury to sprained ankle, because neither source supported anything more specific than ankle injury;
  • removed specific season link in 2008/09 Champions League apps note, because that note is re-used on the 2009/10 row, where a 2008/09 link would obviously be wrong;
  • I was once advised not to use the semicolon at the start of a line for bolding for accessibility reasons (screen readers don't understand it, or some such), so I've got into the habit of using the normal markup for bolding.
Again, sorry if I was lacking in tact, it's hardly the first time :-( . And I hope the explanations help. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:54, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
Carry on, by all means, with Albacete Balompie, thanks for noticing. And put Internazionale back, if you're going there, I haven't done it yet. But Osasuna seems to link to the football club for me? thanks, Struway2 (talk) 13:32, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
Can't be bothered to edit war about it. There's a list somewhere of lamest edit wars :-) But in general, where an article is stable in an acceptable style, we're advised against trying to impose a different style just because we happen to prefer it. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:02, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Let's profit...

...from the fact you sent me that message, what's your opinion then? Since the page was moved to INTER MILAN, should it not be addressed like that in articles?

Cheers, keep it up --AL (talk) 15:16, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

No, better leave INTERNAZIONALE at least in current players, i don't want to edit war with the guy who reverted me in Guarín, Thiago Motta and others. About José Mari Bakero i have to present my sincere apologies, i don't know what i saw in your edits but i thought you had replaced MALAGA B in box with ATLETICO MALAGUENO, hence making the box larger. I just checked the article's edit history, you did not, i am very ashamed of my wiki-behaviour, gotta quit drugs ;)

WikiIndaba and Wikipedian in Residence Notice

Dear Arbero/Archive 2013

As a Wikipedian interested in African subjects and specifically Malawi, I would like you to be aware of the following two opportunities:

1. Wikimedia South Africa and WikiAfrica are organising an WikiIndaba for February 2014 – a continental meeting for Africa-based Wikipedians to get together, discuss challenges and drive the agenda for Wikipedia from Africa. If you support this initiative, then please sign up on this site: http://wikiindaba.net – we also want to hear what you want the Wiki Indaba to achieve. What are your expectations? Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
