Mathematical reasoning (Tupper's Self-Referential Formula)
[edit]Hey. I'm posting this reasoning on my talk page because it is a bit long for deletion pages. Now, the 544 digit number 4858450636189713423582095962494202044581400587983244549483093085061934704708809928450644769865524364849997247024915119110411605739177407856919754326571855442057210445735883681829823754139634338225199452191651284348332905131193199953502413758765239264874613394906870130562295813219481113685339535565290850023875092856892694555974281546386510730049106723058933586052544096664351265349363643957125565695936815184334857605266940161251266951421550539554519153785457525756590740540157929001765967965480064427829131488548259914721248506352686630476300 is the lowest positive number that produces a particular bitmap (an image of Tupper's formula). To store 544 decimal digits, a total of 1808 bits are required (using binary). The bitmap requires 1802 digits. As a result, it is more efficient to store as a bitmap than as a 544 digit number. This works for most multiples of 17 in the range of the formula.
Another method of compression would be to create two numbers, one the lowest number that produces the same bitmap output, and the other the position in the sequence of numbers that produce this bitmap, for numbers that are not the lowest positive number producing a bitmap.
if the number is not a multiple of 17, 5 bits would need to be appended to ensure it was. However, as noted in the case of the 544 digit number, this would still allow it to be compressed slightly.
