Dashes
I mentioned an old edit of yours at Talk:List_of_eponyms_(A–K)#Dashes. Dicklyon (talk) 19:16, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for your efforts to repair articles, but please don't change British English to American English when there is no need to do so. Cheers, Number 57 20:23, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
- Please read MOS:RETAIN, specifically the part "there is no valid reason for such a change". I realised after I wrote the comment above that this is not the first time I have asked you to refrain from making such changes - please could you respect the guideline. Thanks, Number 57 21:39, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
- We did not settle this a year ago, I either forgot or just didn't bother responding to you. I have no interest in discussing the merits or the opinion of a handful of external style guides - the whole point of WP:ENGVAR's existence is to prevent the need for such futile discussions ("In general, disputes over which English variety to use in an article are strongly discouraged. Such debates waste time and engender controversy, mostly without accomplishing anything positive."). Please just respect it. Thanks, Number 57 18:20, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
Given our recent conversation, these edits are clear violations of WP:POINT. Please stop. Thank you. Number 57 07:51, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Not responding does not equate to conceding the point, as there are a variety of reasons for doing so. I am also aware of the theoretical wording of WP:POINT, but the overall concept is not to make edits that are merely to prove something after you've been asked not to. You have your views on how English should be written, and I have mine. Sometimes we agree (I have no problem with this edit), sometimes we won't. In most cases, there is no definitive answer, and WP:ENGVAR is there to prevent endlessly circular fruitless discussions by stating that there should be no change in such cases. I appreciate the work you are doing to identify dead links, so let's leave this discussion on a positive note. Cheers, Number 57 17:48, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
Unfortunately I see you are continuing to remove the word "whilst" from articles for no apparent reason. Please consider this a final request to stop before I take this to a noticeboard. Thanks, Number 57 18:55, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

I noticed that you designated the above as not being notable enough to appear in the DoY pages (March 30 births) I thought that anyone notable enough to have a Wikipedia entry qualified. I would be grateful if you could point me to the criteria for inclusion in the DoY pages. Regards. Richard Avery (talk) 17:34, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- WP:DOY#What is notable says, "Also, being the subject of a Wikipedia article is only a minimum requirement for inclusion in a Wikicalendar article. Not all people meet the more stringent notability requirements for Wikicalendar articles." But it doesn't say what those more stringent notability requirements are. On my own initiative, I ruled that having won a high school state wrestling championship followed by an unspectacular year or two in college is not notable enough for DOY articles. If his record doesn't improve, he will soon be completely forgotten in the domain for which his notability is claimed. Would anybody care today about someone with a similar record who was born in 1892 or 1942? —Anomalocaris (talk) 18:52, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

Substitution
Hi Anomalocaris,
Thank you for contacting me on this issue. I notice from the Refer template talk page that Rich Farmbrough objected to the template being substituted earlier this month, and I tend to agree with him; I don't see a reason to substitute this template. Has there been a discussion on this subject, or a guideline that has been written? As far as I can tell, not substituting the template facilitates consistent formatting among disambiguation pages. I would be glad to hear why you think it should be substituted.

Edits to Anglo-Saxon paganism
Please take this conspiratorial and seditious comment in the humorous manner in which it is intended. Unlike some of the uptight editors who've commented about various rules and variations of rules I really appreciate the hard work you do correcting the articles. But I feel obligated to point out that you wouldn't have to work so hard if you would become a Hyphen Luddite. Thanks for your efforts and enjoy editing even if you won't come over to the dark side! :^) Trilobitealive (talk) 00:43, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

I get a little testy when people "correct" the usage of 'which' and 'that'. It dates back to a scientific paper I wrote years ago which had a rather complex descriptive sentence in it. When it appeared in print, the publication editors (perhaps an automated checker) replaced all the usage of 'which' with 'that' rendering the sentence an abomination. I have no quarrel with your other edits, but did not want to wade through acres of text to replace the changes from 'which' to 'that'. Urselius (talk) 10:18, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

- User:Cassianto: One reversion is not "warring". I justified my reversion in the edit summary. Don't threaten me. Assume good faith. —Anomalocaris (talk) 20:47, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
- I don't assume good faith when someone edit wars. My threat stands: adopt BRD and cease warring or I will report you. Cassiantotalk 22:27, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
- "I propose to revert to the latest version by Anomalocaris" there is nothing of good faith in such an arrogant statement of intent. Play nice, treat people politely and you won't piss people off as much as you've pissed me off now. It's hardly a good way to begin a discussion. - SchroCat (talk) 22:03, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
- It's not vandalism, so don't be so rude and childish in claiming so. - SchroCat (talk) 14:28, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

Ellipsis and punctuation
Seriously, you should spend your precious time making articles better and adding encyclopaedic value to them, rather than continue this relentless pursuit of your version of punctuation perfection which, it appears, is just your own version of LQ. Most often, if you face serious opposition on a truly trivial point, it's better to say "ok, cool, I'll go and improve an article" rather than do the whole Arbcom, DRN thing.
