Thanks

Thank you very much for the welcome, Andrevan.  :) I've often been inspired by this place over the past years, and I frequently come here for information, but I'm also now more amazed at how friendly the place is. I appreciate the welcome, and thanks for giving this place a very wonderful first impression.  :) The Missing Link 03:15, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Request help to stop a vandal....

Hi Andrevan...

I have spent the last several weeks refurbishing and working on Bob Dylan & Beach Boys album articles. Some of these pages didn't even have proper articles based on fact, album artwork, info boxes, etc... I have worked long and hard on them and tried as best as possible to give as much information as possible while remaining objective and reflecting general opinions based on official and authorised sources. This user: User: monicasdude has spent the last two days vandalizing my pages and reverting long and hard work simply because he doesn't agree. He never asked to discuss things, just deleted my info (and has broken the 3RR several times I might add). He accuses my work of NPOV, but as I said I'm reflecting general opinions based on authorised sources. If you look at The Beach Boys album articles (which, from 1967 onwards were in SHAMBLES), he is presently undoing all my work, without even discussing it with me at all.

I would like to have my work reinstated and this very stubborn and difficult user dealt with. I feel I have brought a lot to this site, and if no action is done, I will leave. I'm very upset to have all my work erased like this.

Thanks for your time PetSounds 20:54, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that I have not violated the 3RR rule -- the accusation is dishonest, brought by an editor who has already been cited for breaking the rule. I have committed no vandalism, and that I have complied with all applicable guidelines. I have attempted to already discuss changes with editor PetSounds, and his response has principally been to sanitize his talk page, post personal abuse on mine, and revert well-documented changes to his preferred forms. User PetSounds has no respect for or willingness to attempt to participate in any consensus process. Almost without exception, his edits substitute his personal opinions, dressed up as some sort of reported consensus delivered as fact, for objective treatment. In the discussions on the Dylan pages, he repeatedly refused to provide references, except sweeping comments about the AllMusic Guide. I freely admit being stubborn and difficult for him to deal with in this matter; if these are my personal faults, they are mostly irrelevant in this matter; User PetSounds stubbornly, unrelentingly, and unrepentantly refuses to comply with wiki guidelines and policies and has repeatedly damaged work which I have also put a great deal of effort into. His conduct suggests he values no one's efforts but his own; and an editor with that point of view is unsuited for a collaborative project like this. Monicasdude 21:15, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Andrevan, simply go to Planet Waves to see how this particular user has gone WELL beyond 3RR. I've spent much time and energy correcting song/album timings, uploading better album images, expanding on respective album backgrounds (with as little POV as possible) to have someone vandalize them in a petty manner. It's not the first time he's been accused of irresponsible and inconsiderate behavior (see: Talk:Bob Dylan). I told him I was open to collaboration and discussion, but evidently these articles appear to belong to him and no one else. He assumes he is correct and disregards other accounts that have improved on his work. I also don't appreciate his childish and unconstructive remarks on my talk page. PetSounds 23:18, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It is not appropriate to inflict one's position in an edit dispute on an otherwise uninvolved admin. I note again for the record that while user PetSounds has already been banned once for 3RR violations, I have committed none, that being accused of inappropriate behavior is not proof that one has behaved inappropriately, especially when no other editors supported the accuser's position. I need some help removing all entries/histories a poster here has made against me. They are personal attacks labeling me as 'Hitler', facist, moron, etc. The user has also stated a small business which I own in the context of their flame which will cause undue one-sided views of business practices from readers of the site. Please point me in the right direction:

  • I shouldn't have to check his edit history. He should reply to me at my Talk page.
  • I know that wasn't the right page, but what is the right page? That's my point.
  • I don't want to de-admin him, I want to complain about his actions.

thanks for supporting me

Hello, just a quick note to express my gratitude for your support of my RfA. I'm sure I'll become a familiar face on places like the Administrator's Noticeboard and Requests for Adminship, as well as the murkier parts of my new job. "From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked." (Luke 12:48, NIV) Never was a truer word spoken. I feel empowered, yes, but not in the "oooh cool delete button!" way I was kind of expecting. Already I feel the weight of the responsibility I have now been entrusted with, a weight that will no doubt reduce given time. Thank you for believing in me. :) GarrettTalk 10:39, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pete Ashdown on DYK

Updated DYK query Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article Pete Ashdown, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently-created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Button Menu

Hey, just wanted to let you know I modified and used User:Neuropedia/Buttons for the basis of my own User Page (now at http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/User:RossKoepke/Newpage - soon to be at http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/User:RossKoepke ). It still looks very similar to yours on the surface, but the code has been completely revamped. You might actually want to take a look at the code, it's much more browser-friendly to browsers like Opera and IE. --RossKoepkeTalk

Hi Andrevan. The article hasn't changed much since being unprotected, but it sure has endured a great deal of vandalism. Are there any solutions in place for these sort of situations? I placed a warning notice similar to the one commented within the George W. Bush article but it has not deterred anyone. Hall Monitor 19:40, 4 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

kmccoy's RFA

Hey, Andre,

Thanks for your input on my RFA. While I never refused to answer the questions (I just chose to make a statement instead,) I'm glad that my actions could make you slightly uncomfortable -- I think there are things we need to change on the project and I wouldn't want us all to be *too* comfortable just yet. :) kmccoy (talk) 23:45, 4 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please advise?

Hi,

I am contacting you because I undertand that you may act as a mediator for disputes. I just joined as a new member a few days ago. I joined because I wanted to answer some questions that were being discussed on the discussion page

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Four_color_theorem

Please take a look at the page and you will find that I have been abused and threatened by Dmharvey repeatedly. I have never even tried to edit the main article but Dmharvey repeatedly warns me that if I do try to edit the main article then he would erase my edits! Can you in any way help? As it is, Dmharvey will prevent any new information being added to the main article. And I am not interested in an edit war with him or anybody else.

re: admistrator actions

Hi,

I edited some Darkness related pages by adding a link to my fan club for the band. My fan club is a non-commercial entity and clearly an homage to the UK based musical group.

After checking back to see how the links turned out, I received this message from, apparently, a brand new administrator named Malathion:

"User talk:70.110.73.110 From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Please stop. If you continue to use Wikipedia for advertising, you will be blocked from editing. --malathion talk 11:20, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

This is your last warning. The next time you insert a commercial link you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. --malathion talk 11:23, 10 August 2005 (UTC)" [edit]

First of all, I didn't ever see the first warning. Second, I contacted this administrator at his email address as soon as I did see this message but have not recieved any sort of reply.

Finally, I realized that there was a talk-back link and I wrote him a message asking why he would consider this advertising since other sites that are currently linked are much more commercial than mine.

After writing Malathion and not receiving a response, I then found this message from another administrator who I suspect must be a friend of Malathion's:

"Reverted

I've reverted all your spam links on The Darkness related articles. Spamming links is considered vandalism. Djbrianuk 12:40, 10 August 2005 (UTC)"

This guy didn't even post his talk back link but I did figure out how to contact him. So, I asked him the same questions.

The reason I am contacting you is a follows:

I feel these two administrators are very out of line to question this link, especially when you consider what's already on the page.

Not only that, but it's very clear that they communicated with each other over this matter and decided to back each other up without even responding to my questions about their decisions.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Darkness

Btw, I notice that one user questioned Malathion's ability to use power wisely and, though I am not a registed user, I also question his capabilities. However, the larger problem I believe may be with Djbrianuk who is evidently power mad.

If this is ever to be a respected site, your administrator's ought to have common sense enough to know the difference between a fan site and a commercial site that's attempting to draw business to itself.

As a retired editor at the Open Directory Project, I have to say the professionalism I've seen from this site today is appalling.

Func's RfA :)

Andrevan, thank you for supporting my adminship. :)

Incidentally, I seem to recall having initially opposed your nomination for bureaucrat approximately nine months ago...I'm so sorry, I must have been smoking crack at the time. :p My feelings regarding both adminship and bureaucratship have changed alot since that time. If you ever chose to stand for bureaucrat again, you will have my unquestioning support.

Please never hesitate to let me know if you have concerns with any administrative action I may make.

dispute

There is currently a dispute in which the term Montage has been highjacked by user Rhobite. At current this user has further locked the word from all edits but her own- how can this be resolved?

Thank you
