Charts

[edit]

Hey, I think my pie chart and your bar chart ideas are overlapping too much, just applied to 1999 and it looked a bit silly having both. I've tried to merge the best elements, how do you feel about using this base: User:JLogan/Sandbox ?- J Logan t: 12:50, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well I was trying to keep the number of lines down and make the best use of the space to the right, but it still works. I'll start to implement them. Meanwhile, if you know if there are anymore documents with speakers names, that would be great (I tried looking on similar documents but couldn't find them)- J Logan t: 13:55, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and are the infoboxes ready to use?- J Logan t: 13:59, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, thanks! And thanks for picking up on the mistakes I kept making in there, should have got the PES/SOC thing for example but with all those figures I got totally lost! :) Thanks again. - J Logan t: 10:52, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wasn't sure about Bart, I checked it webpage and my attempt at Dutch came out as yes, not all their EP profiles show it so I wasn't sure. I'm tempted to go and complain to them, least they could do is allow us search terms like -membership: conference of presidents, term: 1999-2004- still, now we're getting this data together in a good, easy to use guide no one should have this problem again! Speaking of which, if we can fill in the gaps we should transfer the list to the party's pages too -that's another thing, only the EPP and PES give their history! argh! Anyway, thanks for everything on these, we've really got something going now because of your work.- J Logan t: 16:36, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Two points. First, any objections if I use the infobox rather than navbox versions of User:Anameofmyveryown/Sandbox5? And I an going to look into replacing Image:Ep1979-2004.GIF as it looks inaccurate to me. Any comments on preferred designs? - J Logan t: 17:11, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great, reason being on the infoboxes is it would be good for quick info at the top on the election, and also serve as a quick nav between the election pages. On the chart, I was of course going to change to png, I'll experiment on the bar and line versions, the line version would be good for showing the height of parties where as the bar chart is good for showing the dominance of them in the system. Looking at the existing bar chart I don't think it portrays the dominance that well so I'll probably go for the line, have to see how they look. Thanks again for your work.- J Logan t: 19:37, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh and if we're keeping the navbox versions, mind if I cut out sources from the infobox as that data would be repeated?- J Logan t: 19:37, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great, I've put all the boxes up now, and fair enough on the electorate size, it is not a major point so it can wait a while. Few other points we might need to sort out eventually in terms of the other articles, but lets kick that into next year with Christmas coming! :)- J Logan t: 21:20, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template changes

[edit]

Not sure about your recent updates to the infoboxes, makes them way to wide. Why did you do it? They don't need to be shrunk, they're just an infobox - meant to display data not hide it.- J Logan t: 22:19, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The reason for that particular width is that 25ems (or 300px) is the standard width for infoboxes, at least according to Wikipedia:Infobox_templates. However, I can't help thinking that that particular standard is routinely overlooked. I'm looking thru other templates to find others that don't use it (eg Template:Animal (family)). I'll reduce the width of the infoboxes accordingly. Give me a few hours. Regards, Anameofmyveryown (talk) 22:29, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, and sod their standard, doesn't need that width unless there is the data to fill it. IMHO at least.- J Logan t: 22:38, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
