Becher or Beecher
[edit]Hi, while the family's surname was spelt Becher in the 16th and 17th century, the spelling used in references/books today is Beecher (see for example [1] or [2]). Best wishes ~~ Phoe talk ~~ 20:52, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Hi Phoe, I am descended from the Irish Politician Thomas BECHER. As an MP & Governor he always signed his name BECHER & both his gravestone & will are BECHER. All his descendants have spelt the name as Becher, never Beecher right to the present day. The name is pronounced "Beecher" & often recorded that way in error.Amontilado (talk) 10:29, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
- Hi again, while I have no reason to doubt you, every insertion into an article (especially if controversial) should be referenced (see Wikipedia:Verifiability). Suitable references are books, newspapers, official websites etc.; own experiences, unpublished facts, traditions or testimonys are considered original research and should be avoided (see Wikipedia:No original research). May I inform you also that as a descendant you probably have a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest in this and related articles. By the way even the Bristol Record Office you have mentioned spells the surname as Beecher ([3].) Nevertheless I have changed the article and have tried to reflect your statement.
