Wells Cathedral
After some months working mostly on Wiki Loves Monuments I've returned to some Somerset buildings on wp & looked again at Wells Cathedral. I really do think after all your work it is close to FA standard. I've put it up for a peer review to get another perspective, but wondered if you had any ideas about further work needed? I stumbled across a copy of the image on this page in a book and wondered if it might be worth including but you did some much on the images I don't want to change anything without getting your thoughts first.— Rod talk 21:15, 12 November 2013 (UTC)
- I've added the pic (& a few wikilinks & refs) and had a go at a Ministry section as you suggested - what do you think?— Rod talk 19:59, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
- Could you look at the reviewers comment about "quire and retroquire" – unusual archaic spelling not used elsewhere in the article and "the Retroquire" – capital letter really wanted? on Wikipedia:Peer review/Wells Cathedral/archive1. Thanks.— Rod talk 08:34, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
- The reviewer has now got to the architecture section & there are a couple of requests for further references and comment about capitalisation and I wondered if you could help?— Rod talk 08:58, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for all your work on this - you have been dealing with all sorts of queries while I've had a long day at work. I've slightly lost track is there anything else outstanding which we still need to address?— Rod talk 20:39, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

There are a further set of useful comments from User:Dr. Blofeld on Talk:Wells Cathedral#Some further comments. I've dealt with some (minor overlinking) etc but wanted your advice about some of the architecture and image comments, before going any further. If you had time to look at them that would be great.— Rod talk 11:10, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for your message. I was not "making any comparison between your inputs to the article". As I said "I'm sorry that you two can't agree/negotiate. I am grateful to you both for all your work on the article". Your expertise on the cathedral's history and architecture is outstanding - which is why I asked for your help originally (back in 2008 I think) and you contributions since have been fantastic. However I also value the contributions of every other editor whether fixing dashes or whatever else. I try to avoid "wikidrama" and focus on the articles. Consensus and collaboration can be difficult to achieve, but offers the best hope for the encyclopedia.— Rod talk 08:43, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

DYK for All Saints Church, Odiham
On 24 November 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article All Saints Church, Odiham, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the upper parts of the Medieval tower of All Saints Church, Odiham (pictured), were completely rebuilt in the 17th century? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/All Saints Church, Odiham. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Thank you for the kind words. It might be a bit much to include 2 examples by Furness in such a broad topic, but toward the end of the 19th century he was designing some of the most visually complex windows (and buildings) in the United States. I look forward to the article filling up with many more images. Best wishes. == BoringHistoryGuy (talk) 03:49, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
File talk message
Hi. I am quite confused, you left a message for me here on a talk page of a picture? This is again quite confusing as not only is it on the talk page of a picture, but it is also addresses me as being a 'new editor'! I have been away from Wikipedia for a long time, as my talk page says 'semi-retired' but every now and again I come back, especially when I'm bored! I have been editing on here since 2009, so I wouldn't consider myself 'new'! :) Regards ☠ Jaguar ☠ 17:50, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

@ Amandajm, I won't dignify your attack on Eric Corbett with a defense or list of his Wikipedia achievements, but I will point out that if editing a page which is being edited by many others in the same period, it's always a good idea to save frequently. You do seem to be now rather scraping the empty barrel to justify your own behavior - which was not impressive. No one doubts your devotion to the project and history; your awareness of ancient buildings is wide. However, your comprehension of architecture is naive and your pronouncements on the subject seem to be gleaned from long out-of-date architectural theories and essays. Your prose has a tendency to be verbose and outdated. Enthusiastic amateurs are to be encouraged, but not if it's at the expense of others, and I strongly feel that you have ridden roughshod of the work and views of others. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, but I think it needed to be said. Apologies to Rod for using your page like this. Giano 09:58, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
- User:Giano, I am not altogether sure why you persist in referring to me as an "enthusiastic amateur". Amateur what, exactly?
- Your criticisms that my "comprehension of architecture is naive and your pronouncements on the subject seem to be gleaned from long out-of-date architectural theories and essays. Your prose has a tendency to be verbose and outdated may well be justified. You have made similar comments before.
- On the basis that this may be true, I have almost always valued your input to any architectural subject about which I have been writing. I do not reject your interest or your expertise.
- What I reject is the "naively nasty" little comments that you add.
- Let's look at your "at the expense of others" line.
- At whose expense, exactly?
- At the expense of the enthusiastic and pleasant Rodw who has been a delight to work with? At the expense of Derek Andrews for who I substantially altered the lead of the article? At the expense of John, Inglok, or Dr Blofeld who made a number of valuable comments?
- Or at the expense of you, because I didn't fall into line over whether "brutal" and "dynamic" were mutually exclusive, after having accepted your advice on the supposed purpose of the cloister, and having deleted the OTT quote about the retrochoir/Lady chapel, when you pointed out that it really was "too much"?
- At whose expense? At the expense of someone who I feel has ridden rough shod over my work, by his rudeness and insistence over what can only be a very small point to him.
- The way in which you sharpen your claws and make bitchy o-so-humorous little comments to further irritate Eric Corbett's victims ought to be beneath a person who values himself as "professional", but obviously isn't!
- "Giano, you should know this, and you should know that! Why, even I, although not even resident in England know a thing or two, and really, Giano, if you can't get it right, than how do you expect a Colonial like me?" peck! peck! peck! Does this sound at all familiar? It is a quote of some of your comments, with the names changed to suit the present situation.
- I am not in the habit of being personally rude to people in the manner that you are. (I have been known to upset people by using capitals in edit summaries). But altogether, the bullying, the beastliness, being insulted by name repeatedly on an article's talk page and in the edit summaries, is beginning to tell on me.
- The bottom line is that although I accept whatever expertise you bring to this with you, I find your spite, your sarcasm and your twee manner offensive.
- I appreciate that User:Eric Corbett is able at formatting dashes and references. On the whole, I find his ability to edit text to be lacking, and his expression to be poor. He is not a person that I would chose to copy-edit my writing, even if he was not a bully.

- Thank you for introducing me to the word "twee" - I had never heard that term before. Uncle uncle uncle 20:12, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
Bishops Palace & Brislington House
Hi, Thanks for your work on the pictures on Brislington House. It was a wet and overcast day, but it was the day I'd arranged with the manager to get access to take some photos - it is all behind locked gates so you can't just wander in. On Bishop's Palace, Wells it can't go for DYK as it is not new or expanded 5x. Maybe I'll think about GA for it one day.— Rod talk 16:58, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:Reba Schappell in concert.jpg
A tag has been placed on File:Reba Schappell in concert.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. If no such tag exists, please add the {{Non-free fair use}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Disambiguation link notification for December 15
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Claude Monet, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Corot (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
