[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Jack Cater, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page St John's Cathedral. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Speedy deletion nomination of Duncan Pescod
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Duncan Pescod, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
- It appears to be a clear copyright infringement of http://www.rics.org/hk/training--events-north-asia/rics-awards-hong-kong/meet-our-jurors/. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. However, even if you use one of these processes to release copyrighted material to Wikipedia, it still needs to comply with the other policies and guidelines to be eligible for inclusion. If you would like any assistance with this, you can ask a question at the help desk.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 14:15, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
- I've undeleted the article, removed all the copyright violations, and then redeleted those previous copyvio edits. I've also added the deletion review tag to the top of the page. Feel free to take this article back to deletion review. Best, --SouthernNights (talk) 19:22, 21 May 2017 (UTC)

- The purpose of a signature is to identify and to link to user talk. Mine is extremely distinctive, and includes a link. If you want me to change it, please be specific with both what you want me to change and why, because your one word response didn't make it clear to me. Is it the colours? Do you want me not to use icons at all? Many others use icons in their signatures. But first, please consider if this conversation is worth the bother. It does not create a very welcoming environment. —A L T E R C A R I ✍ 04:13, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

RfC about opening sentences at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Lead section
[edit]I thought about requesting closure of Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Lead section#Request for comment on parenthetical information in first sentence. At first I thought one closer should suffice, but the mixture of opinions would make the discussion more complicated. Are you sure that one should suffice enough? --George Ho (talk) 20:11, 2 July 2017 (UTC)
- George Ho, I'll leave the number of closers to your judgment, but why close so soon? Conversation is still quite active. —A L T E R C A R I ✍ 22:30, 2 July 2017 (UTC)
- I'm sorry for being unclear. I'm not going to request closure yet. But thanks for letting me use my wisdom and judgment about this. I'll wait until 30 days are up. :) --George Ho (talk) 22:36, 2 July 2017 (UTC)

- Would you please consider withdrawing this RfC and working to frame a better one? There are much bigger issues here as I noted in my !vote here (it is really strange that User:Kaldari's op-ed didn't discuss the action the WMF reading team took to try to deal with the clutter, and the community's subsequent reactions), and people are !voting on the RfC based on the notion that the RfC proposes to actually delete content. De-cluttering the lead is an entirely different issue from say removing IPA altogether, but people are making it about that, which is just... unfortunate. Jytdog (talk) 20:59, 4 July 2017 (UTC)
- @George Ho, Altercari, and Jytdog: I don't think this RfC was structured well enough to lead to any specific changes, but it was certainly useful for gathering ideas and opinions. I think the logical next step would be take some of the specific ideas from the RfC and create new, narrower RfCs about those specific ideas. For example:
- Modifying Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section#Pronunciation to encourage editors to put pronunciations in the infobox or a note, rather than in parentheses.
- Modifying MOS:BLPLEAD to suggest using birth and death year instead of full birth and death date.
- Adding new wording to WP:BEGIN to discourage clutter in the lead sentence and emphasize readability and context.
- Let me know if you'd like any help on this. Kaldari (talk) 21:49, 4 July 2017 (UTC)
- If closure is unnecessary, I have no objections to your withdrawal, like others suggested. Would that do? --George Ho (talk) 22:01, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

- [[User:Altercari (pinging you in case you are not logged in and receive email notifications). I hear you that you don't care about bureaucracy but sometimes process - especially RfCs on issues with wide-ranging implications like this - are really important to building consensus, the bedrock of this place. No one but you can withdraw the RfC. If you want it withdrawn but don't know or don't have the time, please post at the RfC that you would like to withdraw it but don't know how or have the time or whatever - then someone else can do that for you. If you don't withdraw it or do that, it will run its course and then be closed like normal. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 17:33, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

Renaming of Wikimedia User Group Hong Kong
[edit]Dear Altercari/Archive 1 :
You are receiving this email as you have signed up as an interested member of the Wikimedia User Group Hong Kong, and is active at the English Wikipedia.
This message is sent on behalf of group Liasons of the User Group.
As the mission of the group has been successfully amended, and Liasons elected, the Liasons to affcom have now sent an email to Affcom seeking recognition. However, during the process (which is delayed by the hosting of Wikimania), we have been requested by them Affcom to amend the name of the usergroup (which subsequently mean a change of text of logo as well) as our name did not meet their guidelines.
To resolve this problem, one of the liasons, 1233, has started a discussion on the group's meta talk page(meta) to amend the name of the User Group according to the email received about the recognition of the group. We would hope for more input so as to obtain consensus on this matter and resolve this situation. The discussion will end at 00:00, 1 September (HKT, UTC+8).
In order to speed up the process, we would assume you having no preference if no reply is received on meta.
Many thanks,
1233 (on behalf of the Liasons)
