Etymology of Thai provinces
[edit]Thanks for adding the origin of the province names derived from Sanskrit, it's very helpful. I hope you won't stop when you covered all the provinces, there are also many districts having their name derived from Sanskrit as well. andy (talk) 12:23, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Lao romanization vote
[edit]Hi there, I am throwing in a debate about the romanization of Lao on the Wikipedia and would appreciate your input. [[1]] Cheers, Rdavout (talk) 14:19, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
Hello, I've added Pittayawat Pittayaporn's 2009 reconstruction of Proto-Tai to the Proto-Tai language article. For now I've assumed that the reconstruction you added is from Li Fang-Kuei's 1977 reconstruction, although it may be someone else's reconstruction, since there are many other references included as well. I've moved the uncited sections to the talk page (Talk:Proto-Tai language) until the issue is resolved. — Stevey7788 (talk) 17:50, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
A cup of tea for you!
[edit]I love your knowledge of a number of Tai-Kadai languages, Alif, and I wish to know more of them! please leave a reply. :D 13:34, 18 December 2012 (UTC) |

We noticed though that when you edited Sinh (clothing), you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Thai, Textures and Lao (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Hi, I noticed your latest edits. Are you sure that ตั๋วเก่า is reflexive pronoun? I am a native speaker of กำเมือง and ตั๋วเก่า is always used to describe something which belongs to oneself or somebody else. So the correct term should be possessive. Also, may I ask why you removed สูเขา? In additional, are you sure that มึง is native กำเมือง word? SeeingMole (talk) 05:02, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
Pronunciation keys
[edit]Pronunciation keys are just that: keys. That's all they are. We link to them to explain the symbols used in our transcriptions. — kwami (talk) 06:51, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
- See my response there. That's not what a key is for.
- BTW, templates are discouraged except to keep multiple articles in sync, since they cause problems with editing, so I moved your tone charts into the articles. — kwami (talk) 07:16, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

Help identifying languages
[edit]Can you identify the language in these books? They are from a Chinese-foreign language vocabulary series of books published by the government over 500 years ago, and the languages are either Tai, Shan, or Burmese. Since its was designed for Chinese speakers, they wrote the words from top to bottom instead of horizontally.
The first word is "sky/heaven" 天, and it is pronounced "Fa" 法 according to the Chinese character transcription.

Sorry that I took so long ...
[edit]In response to your response to my cup of tea, I do not speak a Tai-Kadai language. However, I know a bit of Thai and a little Lao.
Can you please answer a question for me from Incubator?
[edit]Hi. I see you were involved in the early days of the Isan language Wikipedia test on Incubator (incubator:Wp/tts). I'm dong some cleanup from long-term abusers, and found the page incubator:Wp/tts/What the Heck is a Taoe Recorder. It looks like vandalism to me, but I don't read any Thai language. So would you mind just having a quick look and letting me know? Many thanks. StevenJ81 (talk) (administrator on Incubator) 21:25, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!
[edit]Hello,
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.
Thank you!
