Environmental Protection Userbox

[edit]

Hi Alienlifeformz,
Thanks for using the userbox that I created (the one about supporting environmental protection). I'm glad that there're people in the world who care about the environment just as much as I do. Please encourage your friends to put up this userbox if they have accounts in Wikipedia. If you have any questions about environmental protection, please don't hesitate to contact me by wiki.

Fair use images aren't allowed in user pages

[edit]

We don't allow fair use images on user pages. That is a violation of Rule #9 of the fair use image rules. All the images listed below will need to be removed from your user page. If you don't understand the problem, you might prefer to ask Durin, an admin that is better at explaining the problem that I am.

Regarding edits made to Wei Wu Wei

[edit]

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, Alienlifeformz! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, but note that the link you added, matching rule \bangelfire\.com\/, is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. Please read Wikipedia's external links policy for more information. If the link was to an image, please read Wikipedia's image tutorial on how to use a more appropriate method to insert the image into an article. If your link was intended to promote a site you own, are affiliated with, or will make money from inclusion in Wikipedia, please note that inserting spam into Wikipedia is against policy. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! Shadowbot 00:19, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedians with articles

[edit]

Hi there. You are listed at Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles#S. Is that accurate? --Geniac 13:46, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Sarah_Silverman#.22Sarah_Silverman.27s_profile_on_Wikipedia:_User:Alienlifeformz.22 --Alienlifeformz 04:27, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hey - just a heads-up that you set off the "spam radar" - is there a reason that you're adding links to a particular website to so many articles? RJASE1 Talk 04:24, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for the heads up. I wanted to add a Skeptic's Dictionary link to each article Robert Todd Carroll has written. His articles are here: http://www.skepdic.com/contents.html . Is this not acceptable? Thanks! --Alienlifeformz 04:30, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Since all the pages I looked at contain a link to purchase his book from Amazon, it would probably be considered spam - I think inline citing the website would be OK though, but adding in the external links section on so many articles would likely be considered spamming. I'm sure you were acting in good faith, but mass additions of one particular website to multiple articles can be considered bad practice by some editors - see this list, number 5. Drop me a line if you have any questions, I'd be happy to help you with citation style. RJASE1 Talk 04:37, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Muscle-FunctionIllust.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Muscle-FunctionIllust.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 23:09, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

See Robert Todd Carroll. The information is in that article and is sourced. --Alienlifeformz 04:24, 2 July 2007 (UTC) Here's the source: [1] --Alienlifeformz 04:31, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification. If you haven't already done it, I'll add it to the article. -- Fyslee/talk 05:06, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Ramesh Balsekar.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ramesh Balsekar.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 21:40, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

July 2008

[edit]

When adding links to material on an external site, please ensure that the external site is not violating the creator's copyright. Linking to websites that display copyrighted works is acceptable as long as the website's operator has created or licensed the work. Knowingly directing others to a site that violates copyright may be considered contributory infringement. This is particularly relevant when linking to sites such as YouTube, where due care should be taken to avoid linking to material that violates its creator's copyright. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 17:45, 5 July 2008 (UTC) [reply]

You Tube

[edit]

As you are probably aware, You Tube has recently come under fire in respect of its use of copyrighted works, because of this a review of You Tube linking from enwiki is under way.

It is noted that you linked to a number of You Tube videos from your user page. Sadly the (C) status for some of those video is doubtful or unclear. In general linking to material whose (C) Status is ambiguous, unclear or unconfirmed is highly discouraged on Wikipedia as reflects badly on both the project and the contributor.

If you are not the copyright owner in respect of the videos linked (including any music, screen-shots or computer generated content), please consider reading both (WP:EL) as well as You Tube's Terms and conditions.

If you don't own the copyright to the footage in entirety you should NOT upload it on You Tube either.

If you are indeed the copyright owner in entirety for the linked videos, please confirm this (via OTRS or appropriate means) for each and every video linked, and mention this in respect of the link(s) concerned.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
