Moon Jae-In Criticism
I wrote with a proper source, can you tell me the reason for deleting it ? I really do not understand the reason behind your deleting my writing. Moon Jae-In has been numerously accused of being a communist sympathizer, a red communist, even in the news paper South China North Post says so. Please clarify !— Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.80.242.176 (talk) 23:07, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
So, can I say critiques ? what would be something that Wikipedia would not mind to let the public know that Moon's popular nickname is a commie around the world ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.80.242.176 (talk) 23:15, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
- I didn't revert you on the Moon Jae-in page - see that page's history. You'd have to ask the editor who did. Though, in general, calling someone a "commie" is not a neutral point of view. Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 23:19, 21 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi Alex Cohn, the two modifications on the page Grandpa Walrus were totaly legitimate, I fixed a link that was broken, and I added the original title of the film (as the film is more known that way) to avoid confusion, thank you to re-edit the modification back or to avoid deleting helpful modification in the future. 2605:E000:9151:FA00:FD1D:B2DA:B1E2:3CCD (talk) 18:35, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi! Its ~~Tomas Costanza~~, I have a YouTube video, it’s about Colleen Ballinger on Ryan and kelly where she says her character was inspired by some of her “cocky” college classmates. Can I re add it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.244.218.189 (talk) 02:55, 11 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Tomascostanza1234: As long as you add a citation to a reliable source, I personally have no problem with you re-adding it. Make sure it fits in with the rest of the article as well - I know little about Miranda Sings, so I don't really know if other editors who know more than I do will think it fits. If you need help, please ask! Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 03:09, 11 October 2018 (UTC)

GoGo edits: Alex. The page edit is to reflect the real inventor of GoGo whhich is Nicole Ruth Seibert and not Jimmy Ray. We have issued Legal Take downs of several pieces off of google and next is the actual GoGo website for violation of Intellectual Property rights. Im not sure what more you need but the wiki page needs to be reflected with Correct info and stopped being changed. I added the link to Nicole's page and you removed that as well. Lol this may sound weird, but I swear that the 'Tomato Face' nickname on Gabby Hartnett is not a hoax! Please check the reference from SABR (https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/ab6d173e) that I added in my edit.

I used to watch this baseball show on YouTube a while back, so I was surprised to see that no one had ever included this nickname on Hartnett's Wikipedia page, so I thought I might add it.
You might see it fitting to add strikethroughs to the message you put in my talk section as well.

- See WP:BLANKING for some discussion of the policy, but in brief, in most cases removing a warning simply means you're acknowledging you've seen it, and is not prohibited under any Wikipedia policy. In this specific case, I removed the warning I left because I knew it was in error and would be misleading to other editors who saw it, even if it was struck through. Howdy, Mr. Cohn! You reverted my edits on a page about Biblical-era "Palestine."
"Palestine" was the name given to the region by the Romans, who named it that after our (I say "our" because, like you, I am also a Jew) most bitter enemies at the time, the Philistines, purely to spite us and break our spirits after decades of rebellion against their rule. Calling it by this name is equivalent to calling a black person by their slave name. It's not appropriate. It's using the language of the oppressor. I'd love to have a discussion about this and why you feel referring to the region by the proper name given to it by its oldest living known denizens, the Jews, our shared ancestors, rather than the name given to it by its conquerors, the Romans, and later the Arabs (Jordanians and Egyptians who today refer to themselves as "Palestinians," also to spite us and break our spirits), is not a constructive edit. If you don't feel "Israel" is appropriate, how about "Judea" instead? 2601:642:4400:B137:410A:D2D4:D166:E4E1 (talk) 07:57, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

Shielded Metal Arc Welding
Hello, You recently reverted one of my edits. I am an advocate for the welding industry, and trying to keep the photos updated for those that are interested. Welding is rapidly changing as younger welders enter the career. The photos need to reflect that. Could you please revert my edit? - Hi Weldscientist, thanks for reaching out. That photo looks great! Apologies for reverting; I see now that was in error, and I apologize.
- Just to make sure, because we have to take copyright issues really seriously, and because it looks really professionally done: that photo also appears on freehandfab.com - is that your website? If so, would you mind either sending in an email ticket confirming your permission or adding a mention of the license you've chosen to the website? Hello, Alex. I made corrections to the page of John Fernandez after noticing that his birthdate was incorrectly recorded. It was my first venture in Wikipedia editing, and I may be missing something in the verification process. As mentioned in my second attempt to correct the date, I have known Mr. Fernandez for decades in both a personal and a professional capacity. I am quite certain as to the correct date of birth, and can provide legal documentation if required (and if guided regarding process). Regards, Grundmad (talk) 23:51, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Grundmad! We would need a reliable source, which for birthdates can sometimes be hard to find. Do you know if his birthdate or age have ever been accurately mentioned in a news article, journal, etc? For birthdays, I've even seen a Tweet saying "I turned X years old today" from the article's subject used as a source. Take a look at the No original research and Verifiability policies for more information on the relevant guidelines. Especially when dealing with living peoples' articles, we need to get the facts right; thank you for your help. Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 02:58, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

In his own words Fogerty mentions being "born on the bayou", he "remembers the fourth of july" as well and I did not see that in the documentation. "Edit War"
I have attempted to resolve the dispute on the Talk page for nearly two years now. However, I am continuously either ignored or silenced. I assume that "WWGB" and his cronies have also been issued an "edit war" warning? And for his blatant removal of my Talk page comments (which happens to be your suggestion)? I have requested edit protection, and nothing has been done. Whether or not you like President Trump, his OFFICIAL medical exam lists his height as 6'3". I claimed his height to be 6'3", based on reliable sources, for a full year BEFORE the OFFICIAL medical exam was conducted and published. Now I have been factually vindicated, yet anti-Trump trolls persist in vandalizing the article, with fake news conspiracy theories, claiming his OFFICIAL White House physician "lied" about Trump's height. It's all absolutely absurd. I will continue to edit Trump's height on this article to 6'3", and list the OFFICIAL, credible reference for it, until either the article is removed, Wikipedia shuts down, or I am no longer living. If I am banned on this IP, I will switch to another IP. Do what you will. I really don't care, as it will not stop me. I have been engaged in this "edit war" for literally years now, and have no intention of stopping. Have a good one. 192.254.1.7 (talk) 04:56, 27 November 2018 (UTC)

why is your article of "unification of hispanola" on the main countrys article page? this was never a historical fact and you amongst others who are ANTI DOMINICAN have merged the original article which was clearly "the HATIAN INVASION OF DOMINICAN REPUBLIC" and you have turned something DARK to a light situation of a massacre of thousands of Dominican men women children by the hands of hatian migrants invaders who went to DR under the false pretence to help Dominican people but instead they killed raped and mutalated white hispanics and INVADED the already known country of DR until juan pablo duarte, sanchez and mella decided they had enough of haitis dictatorship for 21 years they fought haiti more then 10 times they kept trying to invade Dominican republic and till this day DR in facing a massive hatian immigration crisis. Please unmerge the two articles and place back the ORIGINAL hatian invasion of dominican republic article back on the country of DR`s main page where it was until someone moved it with the intentions to cover up historical facts.148.101.133.119 (talk) 19:04, 27 November 2018 (UTC)

SPELLING OF WORDS ENDING -IZE
When one sight-reads the Oxford dictionary it is sometimes for the case of the word or group of words. i.e. Advent calendar in that there is with such a decoration always an upper case letter A or as with Christmas so the case is many times the reason one consults the dictionary. Also hyphenated words follow a system i.e. ante-room is always hyphenated but a vehicle's tail lights could obviously never be! However some words unexpectedly less often than not are hyphenated largely one assumes for the academia of it. i.e. part-time photographer or proof-reading of the manuscript. The prime minister is never spelt with a capital p or capital m respectively. However whilst the prime minister constitutes the premier this word is usually spelt Premier. (both spellings are valid). All these words which are spelt ending -ize for example authorizing a bible there is I suppose an ironic exclusion clause which did not used to be existent in that nowadays there is a deviant and atypical alternative allowed concisely described and denominated by (also -ise) and yet one may exemplify sales adviser which I feel sure you agree is the correct spelling is also allowed to be sales advisor which is unusual and off the beaten track. Certainly within this document concerning the freestyle swimming artiste Ms. Rebecca Adlington regarding her specialisms she specialized in freestyle events yet the document had been erroneously altered back to strongly imply (especially misleading the young) that the primary spelling of all words like realize and specialize and authorize are all with an s. On the contrary, the primary spelling has always been with a z. Spelling such words with an s is certainly a widely held misconception in that this would constitute the atypical spelling all on the one hand. Furtherly I would like to add that if Ms. Rebecca specialised in freestyle events then it had to be conceded that using -ise was never politically correct. As for being off the beaten track to write realise as opposed to realize it could seem to me and from my breadth of intellect to be also somewhat illiterate. You can dispute your little exclusion clause that there is sometimes a deviant (also -ise) system as couldn't one with a Sales Advisor name badge instead of the highly more conventional Sales Adviser. I am aware at most comprehensive schools the pupils can be prone to be told the de facto spelling is -ise whereas in the private sector it is always in no uncertain terms the pupils' instructions to always use the entry in the dictionary take for example here and now the spelling of specialized concerning customized swimming techniques achieved by the erstwhile championship celebrity Ms. Rebecca Adlington. {{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveNow}}

Hello, I'm Some Dude. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent reversion of my factual correction to the San Quentin State Prison article seemed less than neutral to me, so I have again corrected it for factual accuracy. By definition, both the acts of smuggling, and of entering a country in violation of its immigration laws are, in fact, illegal acts, not "undocumented" ones. The recent invention and use of the NewSpeak term "undocumented", instead of the factually and legally accurate term "illegal", was done by those with an agenda to make illegal conduct seem less so, which also, by definition, is a "less than neutral" point of view. If you think I made a mistake, or if you want to insist that violating a law is simply "undocumented" activity instead of illegal activity, then I suggest you familiarize your self with the fact that most people do not call sexual assault perpetrators "undocumented gynecologists". The use of "undocumented" is an agenda-driven attempt to downplay or even justify illegal activity. "Illegal" is the accurate, fact-based, neutral point of view term to use here. Thank you. 03:57, 18 September 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.146.221.65 (talk)
Fiji related article page moves
Hi Alex Cohn. I saw your post on Saqiwa's user talk page. Just thought you should also know about Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Fiji#Ratu Wilisoni Tuiketei Malani since it might be another page move that needs assessing. There may be even more that were made and since these articles seem to have very few watchers and WP:FIJI doesn't seem to be very active, some may have even gone unnoticed for quite some time like the one you found. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:46, 4 October 2019 (UTC)

Trying to update
Hello Alex: I am new to Wikipedia and trying to update the job of Laura Gutierrez as her role is outdated. Additionally her birth date is incorrect. I am not sure how to get the edits to stick. She is no longer in office at the State of Wisconsin, but in a position as the Associate Executive Director at the United Community Center.
Please advise on how to get these edits to remain when they are factually correct. Thank you for your advice. -Jennifer 74.62.72.222 (talk) 02:52, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Jenraesteiner: If her birth date is wrong, simply remove it and leave an appropriate edit summary. I'd advise doing that in a separate edit so it's more clear what you're doing. Update the infoboxes to show the correct secretary name - it looks like it's Dawn Crim currently, and I don't think she has a page yet. https://www.wpr.org/evers-appointee-dawn-crim-defends-character-credentials-confirmation-hearing would be an acceptable source for the fact that Laura Gutiérrez is no longer secretary of WI DSPS. Other than that, please avoid simply reverting to your preferred version of a page repeatedly - this can and will get you blocked from editing. Instead, incrementally improve the page, citing reliable sources, until it's accurate. Finally, please try to respect the neutral point of view guideline - changing "voucher advocate" to "school reform supporter" might be seen by some as pushing a point of view. Thanks for reaching out, and please let me know if you have any more questions! Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 03:06, 2 November 2019 (UTC)

- @Ayoh123: As the editor making a change to a biography of a recently deceased person, the burden is on you to support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. Wikipedia needs to be verifiable, and readding unreferenced information after it’s been challenged is not acceptable. Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 05:33, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- Feshbach is dead.[1] Changing wiki-links to a little bit pregnant, a little bit dead is not helpful. 'Readding' is not a word. Ayoh123 (talk) 18:57, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
- Ayoh123, all I'm asking you to do is cite a reliable source properly. I'm not disputing the factual accuracy of your edits; while neither Legacy.com nor the Wilson Center obits are fully independent sources IMO, both are reliable enough to use as a reference for a death date. Not sure what you mean by the "little bit pregnant" remark - BLP also applies to recently deceased persons in some cases, and I would argue proving the fact that they are deceased is one of those cases.
- Please remember to be civil with other editors - linking to LMGTFY and critiquing word choice of others' comments doesn't help to build an encyclopedia. Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 22:10, 3 November 2019 (UTC)

I didn't know we need citations for objective observations? One is set in Victorian Era, exploring the North Pole, a group of English sailors on two ships on ice trying to survive against the elements and a giant Inuit bear-monster.
The other is set in Japan in 1945 and focuses on spoopy suicide woman in a group of migrating Japanese people who end up in WWII internment camps when America enters the war to fight the Nazis.
If you can find a correlation there I'm game to hear it? 121.210.33.50 (talk) 13:03, 20 November 2019 (UTC)
Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!
Hello,
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.
Thank you!

File:Sal Jobe Sports Agent and Actor.jpg
Dear Alex,
I have been using Wikipedia for a while, but only now really started to add content. I am adding a page for the Actor Sal Jobe. For some reason I see that you have marked his image for deletion. I have been given permission to use this image for this purpose. Can you let me know what I need to so, so it is not deleted?
Thank you for your help in advanced
Luis
- Hi Luis, I've swapped the copyright speedy deletion tag for a "send permission" one, which should prevent the photo from being deleted for several days. Please head over to Commons:Wikimedia OTRS release generator and fill out an OTRS license release. Thanks! Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 02:09, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
Uploading photos
Hi,
Do you know what I could do to upload photos that are not mine without them getting deleted?
Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tym2412 (talk • contribs) 20:41, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Tym2412: Start by finding images that are licensed under a free, Wikimedia Commons-compatible license, such as CC Zero, CC BY, or CC BY-SA. Both Flickr and Creative Commons have search features for these - just make sure the images you find allow both derivative works and commercial use. Watch out for users on Flickr that reupload others' images - if the uploader isn't the original copyright holder (usually the photographer or their employer), they can't offer the image under a free license. Avoid sites that sell images, such as Getty Images - (almost) all the images there are under copyright and not available under free licenses. Make sure you document where an image came from, even if you've modified it from its original form. A good example of an allowable image is https://www.flickr.com/photos/nrkbeta/47353186741/ - though that one has already been uploaded as File:Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez @ SXSW 2019 (47353186741).jpg. Feel free to run images by me if you'd like me to give you a yes/no and explain why. Thanks for reaching out! Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 21:34, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
Another question
Hi,
I just have another question. Could profile photos be uploaded? Are there any other websites that photos could be uploaded on? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tym2412 (talk • contribs) 22:51, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
- Pictures are generally owned by the person that took them, and can't be uploaded to Wikipedia without permission. There's an exception for fair use images on the English-language Wikipedia, but this exception is fairly narrow and usually can't be used for pictures of living people. Profile pictures are therefore usually not acceptable without the permission of the photographer.
- There are other websites! The Creative Commons search page I linked to before will search most of them, but you can also upload YouTube and Vimeo videos (or screenshots from videos) that are licensed under a CC BY, BY-SA, or CC-Zero license. Additionally, most works by the United States federal government are public domain, which means they're not covered by copyright and therefore are eligible to be uploaded here. Hope that helps! Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 23:08, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for responding. How could I find out if a Youtube video is one of the licenses you mentioned? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tym2412 (talk • contribs) 23:29, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
- It'll say "License: Creative Commons Attribution License (reuse allowed)" at the bottom of the video description; you may have to expand the description to see it. Here's an example of a YouTube video with a CC license. You can filter YouTube search results to find such videos, as well - it's in the "features" category of the filters. Just like with Flickr, I'd recommend asking yourself if the YouTube uploader could plausibly have created the video they've listed - it's not uncommon for people to upload video they don't own to YouTube and list it as Creative Commons licensed. Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 23:42, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
Sorry for asking so many questions. If I were to upload a screenshot, would I crop what I want? Would I also list it as my own work? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tym2412 (talk • contribs) 23:52, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
- Yes - it's important to crop screenshots of video at a minimum to exclude the YouTube/Vimeo user interfaces, which aren't freely licensed. List it as a screenshot of a YouTube video, and provide a link to the video so that others can verify that it was licensed freely. Screenshots of video are not entirely your own work, so don't list them as that. If you want me to look at something in particular, please let me know! Hi, I was curious about uploading images that appear from Google. For example, when you Google Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a photo comes up in her "Google infobox", this one. Would this be able to be uploaded. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tym2412 (talk • contribs) 19:17, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
- Without knowing where that image came from, who took it, and that the photographer gave permission, no. That image appears in enough places online that it'd be difficult to determine who owned it, so it probably couldn't be uploaded without (at a minimum) some research and a request for permission. Sorry. Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 19:22, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
It's okay, I just wanted to make sure. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tym2412 (talk • contribs) 19:24, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
Hi, is it possible to upload cropped versions of photos. How would I do that?
- It is! Crops are considered derivative works, though, so you'll need to make sure the source image is acceptably licensed. All of the licenses allowed on Wikimedia Commons allow creating derivative works, so I'd recommend starting with an image that is already on Commons and using the CropTool to choose which part of the image you want. You can use other tools to create cropped versions of images if you're more comfortable with them, but make sure you include the source of the image you're uploading in the description (ideally, upload the source image to Commons as well, so other people can use it too). Thanks for asking! Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 19:27, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
Great! So, for example, could I use a photo like File:Alexandria_Ocasio-Cortez_@_SXSW_2019_(47353186741).jpg?
- Sure, that one would work. Try using CropTool to crop that image! Either follow the instructions in the CropTool page I linked to activate it on your account or just use this link to jump directly in. By the way, it's good practice to sign your name when posting on talk pages so others know who wrote what. You can dig through the page history to figure it out, but that's time-consuming. Just type four tildes in a row (like this: ~~~~) at the end of your comment. Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 19:55, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

Could photos from a politician's website be uploaded?22:04, 19 April 2020 (UTC)Tym2412 (talk)
- That's a great question. There's a bit of subtlety here because works of some governments are automatically public domain or freely licensed. For example, works by US federal government employees in the course of their official duties are public domain; "in the course of their official duties" generally does not include works made by an elected official's political campaign, though. So, using AOC as an example: Pictures from https://ocasio-cortez.house.gov/ are works of a federal employee in the course of their official duties and are acceptable. Pictures from https://www.ocasiocortez.com/ are not, and would need to be released under a free license to be acceptable. Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 01:02, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
Thank you. How about uploading pictures from Instagram or Twitter? Is that possible?02:38, 20 April 2020 (UTC)Tym2412 (talk)
- Instagram and Twitter are no different than other online sources - the copyright holder needs to release the image under a free license. The "US government works" exceptions I mentioned above apply - uploads from accounts like @NationalParkService are public domain automatically. Thanks for asking. Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 14:06, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
Hi, I know there is Flickr, Creative Commons, and screenshots from YouTube and Vimeo, but is that really the only sources for uploading photos?Tym2412 (talk) 21:50, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- Tym2412, they're not the only sources - any acceptably licensed photo is allowed. They're just the biggest sites that allow creators to release their work with free licenses and allow users to search based on license status. If, for example, a photographer uploaded an image to Facebook and indicated in the description (or in a comment) they'd released it under CC-BY-SA 4.0, it could be uploaded to Commons. Finding these images can be challenging, though, which is why I steered you toward Flickr and CC. --Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 23:44, 23 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi, I have a question about photos that appear in news articles. I see that most of them say where the pictures are from, so could I upload those photos? Tym2412 (talk) 23:21, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
- Tym2412, usually no. An identified source is not the same as a license. In almost all cases, the images in news articles come from either news agencies' staff photographers or wire services and aren't available under free licenses. As a general rule, please assume an image is not safe to use on Wikipedia unless it falls into one of the clearly defined allowed categories. Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 23:27, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
Sorry I'm asking to many questions. Could Google Images be a reliable source? If not, any other things you can reccomend? Tym2412 (talk) 01:59, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- The "reliable source" criterion for Wikipedia sources is somewhat different for images. For example, we probably wouldn't cite someone's blog post about attending an event in a Wikipedia article, but if they took pictures and posted them to their blog with a free license and we were confident they weren't edited in a POV-pushing manner, it would be reasonable to include those pictures in an article. For an image, "reliably sourced" means we know the provenance of the image - who took it, when and where, etc.
Google Image Search doesn't host images, so it is never appropriate to list it as the source of an image uploaded to Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons. However, GIS does let you search by image licensing status, which you could use to find images that would be suitable for Wikipedia. I haven't personally used this feature, and so can't vouch for it, but if you give it a try, let me know how it goes! Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 02:15, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
Thank you. I tried it, and wasn't really given anything to use. Is there anything else you can reccomend? Anything? Tym2412 (talk) 02:37, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- To be honest, I don't do a lot of finding images for articles; I focus more on reviewing others' uploads to Wikimedia Commons. What in particular are you looking for? Based on your edits, I'm guessing "US Democratic party politicians"? Flickr seems to have some accounts that upload good CC-licensed images - have you seen, e.g., Senate Democrats? Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 02:47, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
So, I'm particularly looking for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, I'm not sure if you know who she is. She's a Democrat that represents New York's 14th congressional district. Tym2412 (talk) 02:53, 27 April 2020 (UTC) Also, what license would a YouTube screenshot go under??Tym2412 (talk) 03:03, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- I know who AOC is - I've mentioned her previously in this thread :)
She's a popular enough figure that you're likely going to have trouble finding freely-licensed photos that haven't already been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Have you perused Commons:Category:Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and its subcategories for the pictures Commons already has? If you do find other pics, that's awesome, but don't get too discouraged if you can't—you are far from the only person looking.
Use the {{YouTube CC-BY}} template on Wikimedia Commons for Creative Commons-licensed YouTube videos.Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 03:07, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
Oh, I forgot you mentioned AOC, sorry:) I have seen the category, and that's why I'm searching for other photos. So, would I list the photo under a specific license? Tym2412 (talk) 03:12, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- Use {{YouTube CC-BY}} as the license when uploading. In the Upload Wizard, you'll be able to type it in manually as an "another reason not mentioned above" license reason. Or you can select "The copyright holder published this work with the right Creative Commons license" and choose Creative Commons Attribution 3.0, which is the license all videos marked as CC on YouTube use. The first way is better, but the second is easier and still correct. Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 03:21, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
Ok, I uploaded a file of a screenshot, it's not the same as an actual photo, but I'm gonna keep looking for photos I can upload to Commons. Tym2412 (talk) 03:24, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- Looks good! I just updated the license templates and tagged for license review (which is just a way to get a trusted user to sign off on the license status of a file in case the source disappears or changes the license later). Thanks for working through the details here; I know it's a lot to think about. Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 03:32, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi, would any picture on this website be in the public domain? Tym2412 (talk) 15:52, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, they would, as long as they aren't clearly attributed to a non-US Gov source (very unlikely on that site, but it happens regularly on other .gov sites). Use the license tag {{PD-USGov-Congress}} (but not {{PD-USGov-Congress-AOC}} because that's Architect of the Capitol :P). Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 21:53, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
Would any picture from this website be in the Public Domain? Tym2412 (talk) 17:35, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
- Tym2412, no. That's not a government-run website. It also carries a copyright notice in the page footer, which isn't required by law but when present is a good indication that the content of the page is protected by copyright. --Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 17:49, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
Oh, okay. So, how can I tell if a website has images that I can upload? Tym2412 (talk) 19:36, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
- In general, it'll have a Creative Commons license that compatible with Wikimedia Commons (i.e. one of CC-Zero, CC-BY, or CC-BY-SA) listed, or it'll be a US Government site with a .gov domain name. Most images you find online are unfortunately not acceptable. Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 19:51, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
Hi, is there any tool that I could use to photoshop items out of photo, for example, like a microphone? Tym2412 (talk) 19:10, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
- Nothing online I know of, and nothing that doesn't have a learning curve. If you have a copy, Photoshop could be used, or the free GIMP. You could also try asking someone to edit an image for you over at Wikipedia:Requested pictures? --Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 01:25, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

- Strangewhine Sorry, I'm not quite sure which IP you're talking about. To my knowledge I haven't written on the talk pages of any of the recent vandals of the Incest article? --Alex Cohn (let's chat!) 16:59, 11 July 2020 (UTC)
