Your GA nomination of 1997 European Grand Prix

[edit]

The article 1997 European Grand Prix you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold. It hasn't failed because it's basically a good article, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:1997 European Grand Prix for things needed to be addressed. Mouse Nightshirt

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Senna crash imola1994.JPG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Senna crash imola1994.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit]

Hi, thanks for telling me about copyright violation, I won't do it again. On that subject, can you scan a picture from a book and put it on Wikipedia - or is that violation too? Davnel03 14:26, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've noticed a number of pictures from F1-Rejects on Wikipedia - could I get some if they are proved useful e.g.

  • A old F1 car
  • A person who hasn't got a picture on Wikipedia

Also, if I did get some, would I need to give three or four reason why not to delete it?? Davnel03 20:12, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's probably loads more. I think this should be brought up over at WikiProject Formula One so people like me don't go uploading off the website, then getting blocked or something like that. If you want to bring it up, you can. Reply asap. Davnel03 20:45, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pembrokeshire Maps

[edit]

I notice you've added maps to several infoboxes. This is a useful feature. But I notice that none of the towns shown are located at the positions indicated. Is there any way of getting this fixed? LinguisticDemographer 09:53, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The alternate map looks fine! I notice also that some of the data-box maps (of Wales or GB) use some kind of algorithm that automatically plots a point given the grid reference. Unfortunately these are nothing like detailed enough for local mapping, and something similar for individual counties would be nice, because then any editor could plot a point just by editing the text. I have no idea how this might be done. Someone on the Wales project might know. LinguisticDemographer 22:46, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Latest (26 Feb) is much better! Thanks for looking into this.

Were you or anyone else going to edit articles like this one? Hell no. Why do you think I edited them. Not for fun. Why don't you add info, edit it, add references, did you watch the race, is there a piece of action that's wrong or never happened?

Yeah, why don't you do that instead of removing useful info. Removing it will make articles useless. Look at 1995 Formula One season, which I've been working on. I've made huge changes to that. Going to remove it, just because it came from GrandPrix.com (but NOT copy/pasted)? No, you better not. Davnel03 18:30, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unidentified green thing

[edit]

You do know that all early Brabhams look pretty much the same, don't you?! Well, it's a V8, which makes it an F1 (there's a small chance of it being a Tasman or Libre car, but in that case I give up!). It's green and gold, which (provided the colours are original) places it between 1963 and 1969. It's got no wings, which take the later limit back to 1967. That gives us BT7, BT11, BT19, BT20 and BT24. It's got central exhausts, which means it's not 19 or 20 (unless fitted with the later Repco 700 series engine). Looking at some pictures of BT7 and BT11, the Coventry Climax engine installation at the back of those two looks different, with exhausts exiting low down and the engine more or less completely covered. Which leaves BT24, and it does look just like these pictures here (you've to scroll down the page a bit). In particular look at the bodywork between the engine and the cockpit, the shape of the perspex windshield and the inward angle of the inlet trumpets on the engine. It's also consistent with it bearing the number 1, although I doubt that's conclusive in any way as it could just be wearing the number for the event. Geeky enough for you? :D The reasoning's sound, provided it is an F1 car, but the picture clinches it, I think. Should therefore be titled as 1967 Brabham BT24. 4u1e 11:29, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:SuperMarioBrothers_OverworldMusic.ogg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:SuperMarioBrothers_OverworldMusic.ogg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 22:23, 14 May 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Image source problem with Image:Bbcscrumv logo.jpg

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Bbcscrumv logo.jpg. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:06, 12 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Replaceable fair use Image:Nick ainger.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Nick ainger.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Genisock2 17:00, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Apology

[edit]

I apologise for my comments on WP:F1, which were probably unnecessary and didn't help the conversation in any way. Looking at the article now, I believe the article wasn't at FA status, and feel now looking back that I should of took it to PR instead of jumping the gun and heading to FAC. Thanks for the feedback on the PR, it has helped me improve the article, and will also help me in future PRs. Thanks, Davnel03 09:16, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

With the Malaysian article, which do you think would be better after the Peer review is over either going to the League of Copyeditors to request the to be copyedited, or to go on to another (possible, have yet to decide) FAC process? Personally, I think I should go to LOCE to see if they can help me improve the article by copy-editing it, but I wanted to get the opinion of any editor. Thanks, Davnel03 20:13, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK. When the PR's over, I'll take it there and see what they can do. Thanks for the advice, Davnel03 14:17, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, something else. I didn't intentionally use the word "will" over at WP:MOTOR. And there was really no need for the word "stop" in capitals either. I made a mistake. So what. Big deal. Everybody makes mistakes. If it was another member of the project that said that you wouldn't of bitten their head of, would you? It's just because the fact that I have a bad history that you have a grudge against me now. What are you trying to do? Drive me out of Wikipedia? Because you're doing that, to some degree. I see you've been doing some coaching work :D. A noble task! Would you mind having a look over Brabham BT19, I think I'm about done (although I'm still trying to get my hands on some pictures - I should really remove the existing one of the car, since the fair use rationale doesn't really stand). I'd be grateful for any thoughts you have. Cheers. 4u1e 10:21, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So you did - sorry, I missed those. Even worse, I've since (partially) reverted some of the changes which Davnel implemented based on your comments. I think my reasons are sound - although I could be persuaded regarding the 'definition' of F1. I'll go through your earlier comments in more detail now. 4u1e 14:43, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, no special meaning. I adapted the table from the one in Fittipaldi Automotive and haven't got round to changing the box colours. To be honest the different colours don't show up very well on my screen, so it never leaps out at me. Something odd with my colour settings I guess, although most everything else on the internet look fine and it's a fairly new and reasonable quality LCD display. I'll fix them, anyway. 4u1e 08:46, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit

[edit]

Why was this edit made: [2]?

The image was tagged with the LGPL template and yet OrphanBot has decided that the "image does not have information on its copyright status." Surely the line "This work is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License" covers the information on its copyright status? AlexJ 12:50, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The {{Free screenshot}} template was recently modified to place images in the category Category:All images with unknown copyright status if the uploader does not use the template to indicate a specific license. This is because the template does not specify a license itself. When OrphanBot sees an image in that category that does not have a {{no license}} tag, it adds one. --Carnildo 22:38, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alex, after Beli1Ever has finished a thorough copy-edit of the Malaysian article, I was wondering if you could have a thorough look at the article, and leave comments on the talkpage, like what was recently going on with Brabham BT19. Thanks in advance, Davnel03 09:50, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I almost certainly would of made the same change to the article, as that was one of the major talking points going into the race, and removing it would lose several key pieces of information. I'll drop a note when Bel1ever has finished the copy-edit. Davnel03 11:21, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, BeLiEver has finished the copy-edit now. Davnel03 17:46, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've renominated this for FA status. Any chance you could comment on the article here? Much appreciated if you could comment! :) Davnel03 14:47, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The anon seems to think that I'm Penske, as laughable as that is. The talk page is best left alone in my humble opinion. The anon isn't interested in hearing anyone else's side of the story, just pushing against Penske. This person appears to know very many details about Penske's life, and almost always changes anything that has another potential meaning. The IP address is from a city nearby Penske's high school, so it is most likely an enemy from Penske's past. Royalbroil 18:45, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will put it up yes, it's a while since we had one and I'm pretty pleased with the way this one's turned out! Harassing Flickr has eventually paid off. :) 4u1e 15:29, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have revised the licensing and fair use rationale. I hope that it is okay now. Best, --Le Grand Roi des CitrouillesTally-ho! 20:37, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. That's an even better way of explaining it than I was thinking. Thanks. Mark83 21:47, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:SkyTravel.svg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:SkyTravel.svg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:04, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Repco brabham logo.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Repco brabham logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 21:08, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reading the article! I agree that it is a lot better now than when it was first nominated, but I was first planning to eliminate all of the redlinks from it before I renominate it (Guido Forti, Paolo Guerci, Giorgio Stirano, Vittorio Zoboli, Shannon Racing Team and Finfirst).--Diniz (talk) 18:36, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
