Don't sign articles

[edit]

Pleas do not persist in adding text such as "AK 19:40, 26 January 2010 (UTC)" to the end of articles, as you did in this edit. As per the policy Wikipedia:Ownership of articles# Use of signatures "Since no one "owns" any Wikipedia content, content should never be signed. The exact contributions of all editors are seen with their names on the page history. On the other hand, when adding comments, questions, or votes to talk pages, it is good to "own" your text, so the best practice is to sign it by suffixing your entry with ~~~~."

Thank you. DES (talk) 10:21, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I saw you cut out the Family section on this article, and you may well have been right to do so. Generally details about the family life of a public figure are not particularly relevant if the family members are not notable in their own right. I am not sure if removing the mention of Folake Olunloyo-Oshinowo is correct in the longer term, since she is a notable politician in her own right, and there may be a link between her success and her uncle. As a National representative, she deserves an article and that should naturally cross-link to the one on her uncle. But I am o.k. leaving it as is for now given the vandalism. Someone has strong feelings against Kemi, and does not understand that Wikipedia is trying to be an encyclopedia, not a blog. Aymatth2 (talk) 03:25, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Usually an article like this should focus almost entirely on the subject himself. It is best to look at any biography from the viewpoint of a high-school teenager in somewhere like Chile or Tajikistan. There may be a brief mention of immediate family members, but generally very little unless they are individually notable and warrant articles in their own right. Few people are interested in the children of Albert Einstein. Folake Olunloyo-Oshinowo probably does deserve an article given her position. I could start one, but I would simply be trying to summarize what I found on the web which may be unbalanced.

I understand your concern about vandalism. There is no simple solution. Wikipedia grows through allowing anyone to edit articles. There are always immature people who try to assert their point of view by edits to articles. Usually these changes get spotted and removed fairly quickly. Barack Obama is semi-protected, in the sense that only registered editors like you and me can change the article, and is closely watched: destructive edits get removed very quickly. But anyone can add hostile comments to that article if they want to - they just will not stick for long. It is possible to add tighter restrictions. In this case though, I don't see a good reason to impose blocks on changes. Best just to watch for damage and remove it when it happens. My view. Aymatth2 (talk) 04:45, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kemi article

[edit]

I moved it into your "userspace" for you. You can find it here. It's not a part of the main encyclopedia now. I honestly don't think that this can be written because it doesn't look like she as a person qualifies for inclusion. No amount of rewriting can fix that. Have newspapers written articles that discuss her or her business in depth? Or has she done anything really noteworthy that is documented by independent sources? If not, she doesn't qualify for a wikipedia article. (This is a rough paraphrase of the relevant policy.) You can read WP:BIO for more information. Don't move the page back into the encyclopedia without asking someone independent about whether it qualifies, because it's liable to get deleted as a recreation of a deleted article. If you have more questions, you can also ask at the help desk. Calliopejen1 (talk) 18:09, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on KJ The Kid Reporter requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles – see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. advice

[edit]

On the talk page for the article about Sonia Varaschin ,and article that I have just deleted, you say:

I am the administrator of a memorial group, I am trying to gain more people so I can open my new business for memorial pages, if you dont believe me check out my site www.fanada.ca you can see I am in public relations and my name is Ms.Kemi:::

This is a totally improper use of Wikipedia. We are an encyclopedia, not an advertising medium. Our role is not to promote your business, or help you promote your business. You've added two pages:

User:Akiomoawo/draft is a bio of "Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo (born Olukemi Ajoke Ashley Olabisi Omololu-Olunloyo on August 6th 1963) is a Nigerian born, US educated Broadcast Journalist, Certified Publicist, Registered U.S Pharmacist in 3 states and a former teen model in Philadelphia, USA. "

She does not appear to have any element in her career which would conceivably amount to encyclopedic notability. The nearest is " As a former Radio Nigeria Journalist and host Omololu-Olunloyo [43] appeared on several US and Canadian cable news channels" which is a violation of WP:ONEEVENT . I conclude that the page is made, just as you say, for the purpose of public relations, and I have therefore deleted it under criterion G11, unambiguous promotion. this criterion applies in user space also, not just article space.

KJ The Kid Reporter is a page on a non-notable blogger, that was properly deleted as showing no indication of notability by another administrator.

However, you have made some very good edits on various articles, so I am just giving you a warning about not entering promotional material. If you continue, you are liable to be blocked. DGG ( talk ) 21:55, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

UNFORTUNATELY, ALL THE THINGS YOU MENTIONED ABOUT SONIA VARASCHIN WAS NOT WRITTEN BY ME. IT IS AN ONGOING POLICE INVESTIGATION INTO CYBERBULLYING BY A SHAWN MCQUAID OF IP ADDRESS OF 72.39.43.238 who has been harrasing admins of her memorial page including me forcing us to shut it. They call him an online troll and they love to deface memorial pages. Sonia has 200 inclusions in her murder. McQuaid was looked into as a murder suspect and has defaced so many Wikipages and even entered the same message into Sonia's funeral page at the funeral home website. How do I make a page now.AK 08:33, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
