New PJ article

You may see this on your watchlist, but take a look at Camp Half-Blood Book One. It's being considered for deletion. The article does seem a bit premature... - PrincessofLlyr (talk) 19:52, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

Hello

Hello Airplaneman, its been a while since our last chat. Did you know that I created a B-class article when the event happened five days ago. Also, if I could get it to GA status it would be my first, but I have ran in to problems such as adding commas (I am truely horrible at placing them) and fixing prose. Would you try to help me in your free time? Thank You. --Nascar1996 23:39, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

I'll certainly fix it; just give me a few days. Congrats on your article work! —Airplaneman01:49, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
Thank You --Nascar1996 19:13, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
Great in general; I've tweaked the first paragraph or two. Some things to think about: not everyone knows what the top 35 rule or Happy Hour are. Maybe you could provide a short explanation or a link? I can't find anything on Wikipedia detailing these rules, though. —Airplaneman23:09, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I might have to remove the sentences about the 35 point rule where I couldn't find anything either. I will rewrite the sentence with Happy Hour like this All practice sessions including Happy Hour (final practice) were televised on SPEED. --Nascar1996 01:48, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
I know you are proud of the articles created by you (I am too), but I'm not sure how GA reviewers will like User:Nascar1996/create. They might call it owning the article. Just a heads-up, —Airplaneman22:07, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
P.S. You can always list articles created on your userpage. —Airplaneman22:07, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

I already have them on my user page and that template is for that if the article is wrote up for deletion they won't have to look through the history but just look on the talk page. It was a long time ago since that copy thing on my talk page was created (still this month though).--Nascar1996 22:18, 27 March 2010 (UTC) It also just says created the article and not owns the article. --Nascar1996 22:20, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

I understand; it's just some (not including me) might not think of it that way. —Airplaneman22:22, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Well it might happen, but it would be uncalled for. --Nascar1996 22:28, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Can you review nominated good articles? --Nascar1996 20:30, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Yea, anyone can. I've reviewed 3 myself. I try to review as many as I nominate. Airplaneman 20:32, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Can you review and tell me whats wrong (if anything) with the 2010 Food City 500 article?--Nascar1996 20:33, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Sure. Airplaneman 20:37, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. --Nascar1996 20:38, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

GA review (see here for criteria)
  1. It is reasonably well written.

    160,000 Nascar1996 02:11, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Can you add that, so it says something like This marks the end of a long streak of sellout seats at the track, which can seat up to 160,000; only 138,000 attended the race.  ? Thanks, Airplaneman 02:17, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Yes Nascar1996 02:18, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
  1. It is factually accurate and verifiable.

  2. It is broad in its coverage.

I'm still neutral here. Maybe you could look for some other featured NASCAR race articles and see what they have? Some more info (there's already a nice amount) couldn't hurt. Airplaneman 21:00, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

I still need to read through it and copyedit, which may take a few days. You might want to look at WP:WIAGA for the time being.Airplaneman 21:27, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Yes sir, will do. --Nascar1996 21:30, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

The article is nominated and what do you mean by copyedit? --Nascar1996 01:23, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

See copyedit. Good luck; I'll see what I can do to help. It might take a few weeks for a review. Airplaneman 01:25, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I though it would, but I might be able to ask someone to do it. --Nascar1996 01:27, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
(*talk page stalker*) I did a quick read over the article and cleaned up a few things. For the most part it looked good. One sentence confused me a bit, possibly because I'm not a Nascar person. Under "Practices and Qualifying", the first sentence, "the practice also had some cautions which included Kyle Busch, and Jimmie Johnson spinning out of the turn" needs clarification. Was there a caution because of something Kyle Busch did and then because Jimmie Johnson spun out of turn, or because they both spun out (at separate times)? And before Airplaneman asks, I'm not reviewing it because I feel biased. PrincessofLlyr (talk) 01:25, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
It was seperate times, would a video work for clarification? --Nascar1996 02:10, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Yes, it would work as a source. You need to explain it in writing as well, though. Airplaneman 02:15, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Will you go over that sentence, I reworded the sentence. Nascar1996 02:16, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, that works! PrincessofLlyr (talk) 02:18, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

What do you think, will the article will pass or fail. --Nascar1996 22:45, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

We'll see what the reviewer says. Not to get your hopes up or anything, but I think it's GA quality. The reviewer will bring up some interesting points, though, which you should follow. Airplaneman 23:22, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Okay, what could the interesting points be about? --Nascar1996 23:23, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Also is the floating button supposed to be offline? --Nascar1996 23:25, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Anything, really: prose and style, content, referencing, etc., but it looks good to me :). As I said, I'll give it a copyedit sooner or later! The floating button on the top right? Yea, it says "offline". Airplaneman 23:27, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
I thought it would be that, but I want to be sure that I was right. About your floating button shouldn't it be online or around?--Nascar1996 23:29, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Would you like to see my user page's new look? Soon I may get a new signature. --Nascar1996 01:59, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
Yes. That look familiar ;). I recommend you don't put where you live (exactly) and especially where you go to school, since you already have your birth date in your username. See WP:KID and WP:YOUNG. Thanks, Airplaneman 02:21, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
I don't think it matters but instead I will change it to the county instead of city to go by WP guide lines. Thanks for telling me.--Nascar1996 02:32, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
I still urge you to remove where you go to school. Please :)? Airplaneman 02:42, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I think the article will pass. It looks great! NERDYSCIENCEDUDE (✉ messagechanges) 02:59, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Excuse me Airplaneman, but an editor said that there's a lot of passive tense in the race section using the form "At/By/On lap XXX" This had been the biggest problem in the article before copyediting but it has gotten a LOT better. You can tell it was written by the same person at the same time. This is why I usually take a look at an article many different times - to get a varied mindset which produces varied sentence structure on 2010 Food City 500. I would like to hear some advice how to fix it from you. Thanks.--Nascar1996 15:42, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
Sure, I'll take a look. Airplaneman 03:05, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Help Request

Dear Airplaneman,

I think there are some problems, still, with the article about Branko Mikasinovich, although you edited it in the end. You also redirected it from the old article and the old one was removed. But it somehow appeared again. Here is the link:

http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Branko_Mikasinovich

This one is listed under SIMPLE English Wikipedia, although it was removed after you redirected it. Why this old article appeared, I don’t know. Why it says that it is written in English not easy for everybody to understand, I don’t know either.

Why the article edited by you, now has on its top that it is an orphan article, I don’t know. I think I sent more links (we should review the old messages), still, this is not a collection of links.

I wanted to check if somebody is interfering with your, our work? Is this something malicious by unauthorized people, some misunderstanding or who knows what?

This is the link to the article edited and fixed by you:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Branko_Mikasinovich

Thanks, Mountlovcen8 (talk) 23:44, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

Nice to meet you. I edited it last December and don't even remember doing so. I was probably patrolling new pages or something and wikified it, as I do with tons of other articles...
What old article are you talking about? Someone probably just copied and pasted the article to Simple, which is not ideal. That's why the tag's there; they want you to make the prose simpler to understand. That's the point of Simple English Wikipedia - simple English. I highly doubt that something malicious is going on. Furthermore, everyone is allowed to edit, and therefore nobody is unauthorized. Please assume good faith - you can always look at the article's history (click on the "history" tab on top of it) to see who has edited and what they changed.
As for the article being an orphan, it's not how many links it has (that's a dead end) but how many other articles link to it. Click on the link on the notice box to see how many articles currently link to it. Hope this helps, —Airplaneman01:47, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Wikify Tags

Hello Airplaneman. I notice you're on the Wikifying Project. When I started wikifying a few weeks ago I assumed I was to remove the wikify tags after I did all I could, mostly wikilinking and de-orphaning. I realized after removing three tags that it's better if someone more experienced decide to remove them. Could you look at Mule Newspaper, Two Dollar Radio and Mud Gas Separator to see if the wikify tags should have stayed? Thanks. Slightsmile (talk) 02:53, 28 March 2010 (UTC)Slightsmile

Nice to meet you, Slightsmile. I'll take a look and give some feedback:
  • Your changes to Mud Gas separator look great! The images could be smaller though; see WP:FILE. I've changed that.
  • Your changes to Two Dollar Radio look good; remember, having no links in the article is a dead end, whereas having no links from other articles is an orphan. I've fixed up Two Dollar Radio. Try the links in the problem boxes (if you haven't yet); they help show you what's wrong.
  • Your work on Mule Newspaper is also good, but again, it's just linkage. You also need to consider layout and wiki-markup (explained below). My fixes.
For tips on how to wikify, WP:WIKI gives some tips. Wikifying is not just about adding links, but also about formatting andmarkpup. As you can see, you need to bold the name of the subject in the intro. Another thing is learning by watching; that's what I did. Although I'm not anywhere close to perfect, you can see my and other users' changes and learn from those. Another very useful resource is the manual of style.
You changes are extremely minor; this is a matter of preference but maybe try combining them (use the "preview" button. Tired of reloading all the time? I use WikiEd, which can be found in the "gadgets" section of your preferences) or marking them as minor. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions :). Happy editing, Airplaneman 18:23, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for all the help! There's so much to learn. It's a good idea to see how others do it. I did know orphans means not linking in but I didn't know articles with no links out were called dead ends. It's true my focus is on linking in and linking out, so until I get up to speed on formatting and markup I'll just leave the tags alone. Regarding possible orphans, is there a way to see how many articles link into a specific article? Slightsmile (talk) 22:26, 28 March 2010 (UTC)Slightsmile
Sounds good! There should be a toolbar on the left called "toolbox". Under that should be a link saying "what links here". Click on that, and it'll show you. Also, when you sign, you don't have to manually type out your name; just put four ~. Regards, Airplaneman 00:17, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks/ Some Questions

Hi Airplaneman,

Thank you so much for your edits on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Abbiejoy81/Vox_Lumiere. Those were very helpful to me. I didn't realize the star key created bullet points. Good to know! I went ahead and added an info box like you suggested and posted The Vox Lumiere page into the main space as a new page at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vox_Lumiere. I see I should request a move or re-direct for my rough draft page. I visited the page for Requested Moves and copied the formatting that it suggests to paste at the bottom of the page, but what would the "NewName" be? Would it be "Vox_Lumiere"? Thanks again for your help. I greatly appreciate having someone to guide me through this new process. Abbiejoy81(talk) 18:10, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Great to see it's now an article! Actually, you can just ask for speedy deletion of your draft, since it looks like it is the same as the main space article. Next time, you can just click the "move" button to move the page instead of copying and pasting; just remove the "User:Abbiejoy81/" part of the name (next time) and it will be moved; a redirect will automatically be created. For this instance, just tag the page with{{db-u1|Now in the mainspace}} and an administrator will come by and delete it. They know because the page is added to thecategory for speedy deletions, which is patrolled regularly.
I will go ahead and add some categories to the page; they are at the very bottom in that gray bar. Happy editing, Airplaneman 23:11, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

I made some fixes. For a short-term goal, expand it to look something like this. In the long run, it should look something like this if you can find enough info. Don't let it get to you :). What do you think about my performance as an adopter (plz be frank)? Airplaneman 23:17, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
your performance? i have not seen you around here man. You decided to be a stranger, so i said okay to myself.Jigglyfidders(talk) 23:21, 7 April 2010 (UTC)]
I meant, how am I doing as your adopter? Am I good/bad/lame/ etc.? Airplaneman 23:31, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
you are lame because i haven't seen you aroundJigglyfidders (talk) 05:33, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
Surprisingly, I have a life, too. So you're saying I should be more involved in helping you? I'm considering developing a classroom for my adoptees. What do you think? Airplaneman 20:33, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
hey, i've started learning my way around here. i even became a major contributor at a similar website to this after learning my technique here. im okay with a classrom

as for the disruptive editing. Im just learning about this place and testing my limits. thats all. no big deal really. i just needed somebody to put me in my place firmly and i have learnt my lesson. as a jobless young man with nothing to do, i don't mind editing here anyway. keeps me away from the streets where i live. hit me back if you have any good info Jigglyfidders (talk) 20:59, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Great to hear that; before testing your limits next time, read the policies and guidelines in the welcome template at the top of your talk page. That's a good place to start. I'll be busy the next few months, but I'll try to set up a classroom. When you feel like it, and before testing more limits, also read the links in User:Airplaneman/W. Ask me anything about them; I'll do my best to answer. Thanks, Airplaneman 22:14, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
i didn't mean to do disruptive editing. are you trying to say that you have never been given a warning when you were new here? The fact of the matter is, an administrator will always have the upperhand in this conversation. If i had been an administrator the roles would have been reversed, you see what i mean? you are never going to get the same neutral points of view from different editors are you? by the way, im still learningJigglyfidders (talk) 22:33, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
As a matter of fact, no, I was never warned. I did edit once under an IP address when I was a little kid when this encyclopedia was newer, and I was warned. Never again was I warned. But that's not the point; if you were an administrator, you wouldn't be making the edits you had been making. I amtrying to provie a neutral point of view. Different editors involved will not have a neutral point of view. I looked at the info and ref you added to Azerbaijan, and the warning given was justified; I saw not mention of the fact you added in the ref you provided; that is the kind of editing that needs to stop. Otherwise, your contributions are valued. Not everyone takes the time to try and help improve a free encyclopedia on their own time. Airplaneman22:46, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
allright then. you are probably a quic learner then. it doesn't help that i've been out of school for a while so.... but anyway, do administrators get paid for doing this stuff or are they all simply a bunch of bored old hags? (no offense administrators)Jigglyfidders (talk) 23:02, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
Neither. They are volunteers like the rest of us; they are just experienced and trusted enough to be handed extra tools to help maintain the site; seeWP:ADMIN and WP:RFA. Airplaneman 23:09, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

by the way, these guys http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Unitarian_Bahaism need some input i thinkJigglyfidders (talk) 23:10, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

I think User:Stillwaterising has got it settled. Airplaneman 00:06, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

btw, why dont you become an administrator? you sound pretty well roundedJigglyfidders (talk) 23:17, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

See Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Airplaneman. Maybe in a few more years... Airplaneman 00:06, 10 April 2010 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Maybe a couple months?--mono 23:54, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Hey, i just sent the following message to deconstructis.

  • "== Baha'i is Abrahamic ==

This is an abrahamic religion, so why shouldn't it be mentioned. it has enough followers, with some figures as high as 8 million. they are widespread and are the 2nd fastest growing religion in the world, with indications it will take over Judaism as the worlds 6th largest religion by the 1930s. There is no undue weight whatsoever as you are suggesting in my opinion, and im not even a Baha'i."

what do you think?Jigglyfidders (talk) 18:32, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

could you contribute to the argument please? baha'i should be added to the 3 pictures as an undisputed member of the Abrahamic religions and also changed to 4 primary faiths.Jigglyfidders (talk) 18:40, 10 April 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Airplaneman- If you'd like to copy my classroom, go ahead! It's here.--mono 23:53, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks :)

I didn't think people would take it so literally but thanks :D It made me chuckle, kindest regards, Lefty101 (talk) 09:40, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

Heh, no problem. Nice to meet you! Airplaneman 16:38, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

RFA

I have temporarily removed that RFA because of this open issue as I think it will be distracting.  7  01:46, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for telling me, Airplaneman 01:48, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
Not to mention the state that the self-nom was in, plus the fact that the user only has 56 edits.  7  01:57, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Not sure he was ready to go live. Also, it's been pulled due to another matter. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 01:47, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Ah, should've asked first. Will do next time. Airplaneman 01:49, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
I've tagged the RfA with CSD G3 as a hoax. ~NERDYSCIENCEDUDE (✉ messagechanges) 01:56, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
(talk page stalker)@NSD WP:CSD might not be the best for non-articles, NSD. I would let an admin know; however, I say: whatever works!
@Airplaneman- you may want to look @ WP:39/CC. Currently on The 39 Clues; btw it seems WP:PJTF has ground to a halt. Anything up?
#Randomness/@Airplaneman- At my editor review, (which I'm having partially or fully deleted), you met Codedon, who was blocked perWP:TROLL, unblocked, then re-blocked after these: [2][3] [4]
Cheers, mono 00:24, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
I'm just trying to keep up with the vandals for PJ articles. Most who joined just joined for the sake of joining, not article work. PrincessofLlyr's on semi-wikibreak and I'm on to other things, so the soonest I can seeThe Battle of the Labyrinth as a GA is this summer. As for CSD, I think it can apply for any namespace. I'm getting busy as well (finals approaching way too fast). I'm sorry about what Codedon did; so is life, sadly. Glad you didn't let him shut you down; the show must go on :). My troublesome adoptee was indeffed not too long ago. Anyways, glad you're back. I joined WP Google! Airplaneman 00:33, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks! My rl is crazy now; I took the break because I needed to catch up and due to Codedon. I don't have finals, however... Go figure!--mono 00:39, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

hey, i need help creating 2 different articles

1 david wood a christian apologetic. 2 sam shamoun another christian i tried myself but they deleted it cool.Jigglyfidders (talk) 19:42, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

(tps here) Note that both individuals are associated with Answering-Islam, a debatably notable site which has no article (deleted by AfD here). There are no Google News hits for David Wood and only one for Sam Shamoun ( here) and few Google hits outside their website.PrincessofLlyr (talk) 20:19, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
(repeating from my talk page) Jigglyfidders it seems that some people have looked for refs and found nothing significant on those people. Unless you can come up with reasonable sources of their importance they don't deserve an article. From what PrincessofLlyr is saying it seems there is almost nothing about the these people available. Time to look for other topics for an article. It is possible to do substantial serious work but not doing something about them. Smkolins (talk) 23:33, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Jason Michas ~ You've edited my wiki page.

Hello Airplaneman. Quite a moniker.

Um...I'm not "wiki savvy"...but through haphazard sleuthing I found that you may be one of the people that edited the very humble wiki page on me.

Now, I didn't post that wiki and honestly I wouldn't care if I weren't up there. But seeing as I seem to have very little control over this stuff, I might as well make sure the info that is out there is correct.

Anyhoo, I apologize if I'm wrong but it seems you might have been the chap who made the edit that says I was born in 1954, which is news to me. So, unless I was in some sort of coma during the 18 years of living I apparently did before I thought I was born (which would really suck because it would have meant I was alive during the 60's but couldn't partake in all the free love, rock 'n' roll and drugs) you're getting it from the horses mouth, that I was NOT born in 1954 but was in fact cast out unto this troubled but beautiful world in the year of 1972.

Again, I was born in 1972 not 1954.

So, I'm asking you if you could please change that to the correct date. And while your at it, perhaps you could explain to me how I could change or add stuff to my wiki. I tried but failed miserably. All I could see was a little scrap of html coding on the "edit page" and not much else. It might as well have been Greek.

Sincerely, and with much gratitude,

Jason Michas —Preceding unsigned comment added by24.80.246.15 (talk) 19:05, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

It's been changed by a friend of mine :). I did not add your birth date, by the way. I just did some formatting. If you'd like, you can create a username and I'll try to show you around as best I can; for now, I'll put some links on your talk page for you to look at (hopefully they'll help). Wikipedia is in wiki format, not full-blown html, but I agree it's confusing at first. Feel free to ask away. Thanks for telling me about your birth date! If you can, try finding a reference for it. Regards, Airplaneman 21:17, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
Links: editing policy, Wikipedia:How to edit a page. Just press "edit" and start typing, really. I learned through trial and error, and used the preview button to see what worked and what didn't. Airplaneman 21:21, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
On a side note, I saw your comment "quite a moniker". I'm just wondering, is that good or bad :)? (Please be honest, I'd like to know :). I just typed out a random name two years ago having to do with something I liked and still like) Airplaneman 21:23, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

Wikiproject Novels

So I noticed that not much is happening at Novels and elections never took place. Do you want to see if we can get stuff rolling? I too would help coordinate if you would like, these next two weeks are kindof crazy, but I would be willing to help after. I have been doing task force stuff for a while. Sadads (talk) 19:38, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Hey, nice to meet you Sadads! This is a great idea, although I'm going to be busy the next few weeks as well. I think I can start in June - how does that sound? Airplaneman 20:38, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
Perfect, I will look around at who else is active, and get together a list starting in a week or two, I will give you the link when it starts to come together. Sadads (talk) 02:14, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
Sounds good! Airplaneman 02:53, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Interview request: The newbie experience, revert communication

As I'm concluding the study related to the NICE user script, I'd like to ask you some questions over the phone about your experiences with and ideas about Wikipedia. The questions will be related to how you interact with new editors and the way you communicate when reverting. This chat should take about 45 minutes to an hour. If you are interested or need more details, please let me know. --EpochFail(talk|work)15:18, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)You can ask me too, (email might be better, phone would work) as I like NICE and have some ideas. Whatever works, ℳøℕø01:55, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
