Thanks for getting involved. I had been contemplating seeking out a moderate Dutchman to appease these guys (had been thinking of Cavilla); hopefully this is unnecessary. In answer to your question I did my masters thesis on the relationship between language of regnal identities in the high and late middle ages, so became interested in synchronic and diachronic analysis of ethnic terminology. Second seven summits

It seams this peak, Ngga Pulu [2] may be just a subpeak of Puncak Jaya, based on other sources I have found, so we may be able to ignore it. However that doesn't explain why peakbagger chose to include it in their second seven. I will look into it more tomorrow. Birthdate of Cornelis H. A. Koster

Just a heads up: In 2009, you added a full birthdate to Cornelis H. A. Koster. Unfortunately, I was unable to verify this; the citation given was to http://authorities.loc.gov/, not any specific record, and the record I did find seems to only give the year (although it's entirely possible that I simply can't find the full date – this is my first time using this system, and I'm unfamiliar with the result format). As such, I have removed the month and day from the article, and cited the year to the record I found.

If it's merely my incompetence that lead me to being unable to verify the rest of the birthdate, then I apologise, encourage you to restore it, and would be interested in knowing what I'm missing :) ehird (talk) 18:09, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

"Source information must be provided so that the copyright status can be verified by others." - I cannot verify whatever this image is copyrighted (satellite images also may be copyrighted). Inhabitants of Egmond

Hi, I removed Lamoraal as a famous inhabitant of Egmond, as he never to the best of my knowledge lived there. I'm quite unsure of earlier dynasty members. Yes, Lamoraal is unlikely to have spent much time at his ancestral castle, even if the village is pretty gung-ho about him, naming a restaurant, concert band, and scouting group after him and erecting a statue in 1997. He wasn't completely disassociated from it though, as in 1564-5 he had the nl:Egmondermeer poldered. The Dutch page nl:Egmond aan den Hoef has him as a famous inhabitant, and perhaps they know more than we do, but they don't give a reference. The slotkapel site has nice brief bios of a number of lords and counts; from that info I would say that most of the Lords considered the Hoef their home base, while after 1500 the Counts, distracted by their extended possessions, may not have spent much time back home. At the end of the 15th century, under Count John III rule, the castle was considered "at its peak" and the largest and prettiest in Holland. I'd live there.

Btw, it may be better to move this "famous inhabitants" section to Egmond (municipality), at which point we can include Adalbert of Egmond, George Hitchcock (artist) and Gari Melchers (Descartes also mostly lived in Egmond Binnen). Afasmit (talk) 04:09, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

I can see both pros and cons in consolidating the notable inhabitants into the municipality article. The three villages are quite distinct, with their own histories that have oddly little overlap, which would make the case for keeping them split up. I think the best thing to do is to have summaries of the villages articles in Egmond (municipality). Bergen, Noord-Holland should probably be split in an article on the municipality (which includes the three villages of Egmond, Bergen, Bergen aan Zee, Schoorl, Groet, and the local hamlets) and one on the village Bergen. I'm not really all that interested in doing that myself though. Even though I was born in Egmond aan de Hoef, lived there for almost two decades, and my mother still lives there, the toes I'll inevitably tread on aren't worth the hassle to me. 1. Please stop removing Category:Male film directors.
2. There was a discussion about this to solicit input and consensus from the community at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2011_January_6#Category:Men_by_occupation.
3. The consensus at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2011_January_6#Category:Men_by_occupation was to Keep the category.
4. Therefore arbitrary removal of the category based upon whimsy is disruption.

The discussion, involving 6 people and a 3 to 3 vote (including the nominator), was primarily about keeping "Category:Men by occupation" and was "keep all for now", mostly because someone suggested that the subcategories should be addressed elsewhere. After nearly 3 years of existence the "male directors" category had and has 17 entries (out of about 9000 male film directors that have an article in wikipedia). In other words, the community that you speak of seems to be pretty much unanimous about the usefulness of this category. Afasmit (talk) 14:17, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

Rob Donn

Hi, re this edit - what are "LOC authorities"? I'm intrigued as IMO an argument could be raised, in this particular case, both for {{DEFAULTSORT:Nickname, Forename}} and for {{DEFAULTSORT:Forename, Nickname}}, so I wonder whether LOC is some wikipolicy treating entries like this. --Thrissel (talk) 13:54, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

LOC stands for Library of Congress, the authority, literally, on where to place a person (book, document, etc) in an index. For Rob Donn, someone had already added the Authority control number, which appears at the bottom of the page. Click on 32941694 and you see that both the American (LOC) and German (DNB) authorities recommend "Donn, Rob,‏ ‎‡d 1714-1778". They're not infallible and I've actually been able to make them change a few odd mistakes (somewhere through this website. LOC authorities are aware of this issue and have written "Rob Donn Calder, or, as he is sometimes called, Mackay, was born about the year 1714" and "Rob Donn (1714-78) was born at Allt na Caillich, Strathmore, in the Reay Country in the county of Sutherland; there is some doubt as to whether his surname was MacKay, Calder or even Donn itself". If you have a good reference, you could add that to the first paragraph and add
{{DEFAULTSORT:Rob Donn}} <!-- Authority control indexing by Donn, Rob is refuted by (ref).-->

I see, it didn't occur to me there were authorities for indeces. Personally I wouldn't see these as binding, and the idea that Donn may have been a surname looks rather suspicious to me, but as I said, both ways of sorting him seem equally good (or equally bad to me), so even if I knew of something as reputable as the Library of Congress placing him under Rob (or MacKay, or Calder), it would make no difference to me. Abdul Haris Nasution

Hi, I take your point about the "losing patience", which I have have just failed to find after a scan through Ricklef, Mackie's "Konfrontasi" and Crouch's "The Army and Politics...". However, I feel you need to provide a reference for the "ethnically, historically and culturally distinct West Papua" and "The Dutch in the meantime had started preparing the region for independence and a national parliament was elected in 1961". While I personally agree with the former, I am not so sure that the Dutch were not repeating the trick the Japanese tried in 1945, when they basically gave Indonesia independence just to annoy the returning Dutch colonialists. I will have a look for references for your edits (and the pre-edited version, in the interests of fairness) I am off on my holidays tomorrow...
